Remodeling seminar 2025 I met Todd early in his career and was very impressed by his work ethic and the seriousness he took in placing our 4'x4' skylight. Since then, he's expanded to full on remodeling company, but that didn't surprise me, because of how well he did with our small project. He also knows how to pick the people he works with, which I noticed for our skylight and experienced at the seminar they recently provided. When we were looking to buy an older house, we called JDR for advice and remodeling cost estimates. Jim was very helpful and he actually came out to look at a couple of houses that we were considering. He gave us a rough estimates to remodel them. This was several years before we made a final decision to buy and remodel a house. Before construction on our house started, JDR put detailed cost estimates into a contract and they guaranteed that they would not go over the estimate by more than 5%. Amazingly, they held to that original cost estimate for the original work plan. (After construction began, a decayed beam was found and replaced for a reasonable additional cost. Other minor changes from the original plan were estimated, documented and approved by us before the changes were implemented.) They clearly set timing expectations with frequent updates on progress from our fantastic project manager (Lucas). JDR's ability to do it all was very convenient. Their teams of designers, framers, plumbers, drywallers, painters and electricians were all customer-focused and professional. They stood behind the quality of their work and they corrected mistakes with no push-back. Even a month later, after some settling caused some cosmetic issues, they came back and made everything look great. At the end of our whole-house remodel, they provided us with copies of the contract, invoices, change orders, subcontractor lien releases and warranty instructions. After everything was done, our 1960 house looked like new and everything worked perfectly. read more

I emailed Jackson Design about a home extension we want to get done to our home. After a few days of no response, I decided to give them a call. I should have been weary of all the advertising they do. I company that is doing well probably doesn't need to advertise as much as they do. I spoke with the lady who answered the phone about the project we needed. She was very rude and almost seemed like she didn't want to be bothered. Maybe if I told her my name was John instead of Juan I might have got a better attitude from her. She took my information down and said she wanted the person coming out to talk to me first to decide if he even wanted the job. I received a call back from the gentlemen at our scheduled time. He said" I was given your number to call you back. What do you need" The tone of his voice was unprofessional and rude. It took everything in me not to hang up on him. Maybe these people are to high-class for my business. He must have sensed my shock in the tone of his voice and apologized to me. We discussed my needs and decided the job would be too small for him. I discussed the experience I had with Jackson Design with my coworkers and spouse and they both said I should have just hung up on them. I hope the owner of the company doesn't email me and say it was just a misunderstanding. I've been in customer service for over 30 years and know what good customer service is. And Jackson Design is definitely lacking it. read more

This review is long overdue. We used JDR for our remodel and could not be happier with the results. From the design seminar to our final walk through, we were treated well. Our team was fantastic...George, Marisela, Lucas, and Kate were all wonderful to work with. We had an idea of what we wanted and the designs they came up with still blow our mind. Our house is a 1980's tract home we bought in 1993. For the 10 years prior to our remodel we hated our house. It was outdated and the flow didn't work. Our project completed in April 2019. I'm pretty sure every day since, one of us has said "I love our house." Our project included removing a wall to open our kitchen, replacing all of the indoor plumbing, replacing our windows, replacing all of our floors, gutting the kitchen, powder room, and master bathroom, redoing our bedroom closets, and interior paint. We lived through the remodel, which was an adventure, but JDR made it as tolerable as possible. We did not add any square footage, but everyone agrees our house feels bigger. I can't get over how spacious the kitchen feels now and I love the walk in pantry they added. The vendors they used for our project were all great as well. The project for the most part went very smoothly and any concerns we had were promptly addressed. We would not hesitate to recommend JDR. read more

After two "bring to Jesus" meetings with Todd Jackson: - 1st at 4 months into the 5-7 mos. project advising him that at least 4 weeks of that period of time there was no work being done; - 2nd later in the year where he stated that the project manager had lied about the status. He took no personal responsibility and was hostile in his demeanor. and his visit to our home where he made a vulgar remark; I have sooo much say... but am prepping it for legal action. read more

July 2023, while in their showroom I was informed that the minimum project size is $150,000. I was looking to spend ~$80,000 on my kitchen. I find it hard to believe that they really require $150,000 minimum, and that other undertones and/or prejudices led them to send me on my way. We've contracted JDR twice for our homes in San Diego. The first time was about 6 years ago for a remodel in our condo. Everything went extremely well from the beginning designs through the plans and permit stage and even up to the very end of the project. Their workers were clean and professional. Their staff designers were friendly and knowledgeable. We are very pleased with the final product. The 2nd time using JDR was just recently with a small house we purchased in 2016. We talked with them about a remodel but in the end it was better for us to tear down and rebuild. JDR was there all the way! They helped us get through with the Coastal commission plans and their design was AMAZING! The little beach bungalow is now a beautiful 3 bedroom house with style inside and out. I attended a Jackson Design and Remodeling seminar and was impressed with their team approach. My house is older and was in need of a whole house remodel. I had a bad experience with a remodel elsewhere so was very cautious! As I met and talked with Jim Groen, I continued to be impressed. Phase I is completed and it has exceeded my expectation. A few small things needed to be adjusted, which was done promptly and well. They listen to wants and needs and have accommodated my desire to stay in the house--the reason for phases. They had great design options for some challenging areas. Sean is there frequently, mostly daily and provides reports. He takes time to answer questions and discuss options. I can't say enough good things about my core team of Jim, Sean, Mitch and Ivan. I talked with several people who have had remodels done in my area and they had issues, either big mistakes made or lack of communication and frustration. When I asked why they chose a particular company, the answer was always lowest cost. I could have gone that route but would have been stressed to the max and not happy based on the experiences they had. The JDR team's professionalism has made this process so smooth. Adding a room and remodeling another (along with a total renovation of a bathroom) may not strike terror in everyone's heart--but doing it at a distance (3000 miles away) would be scary for anyone. Fortunately, there is Jackson Design & Remodeling. From our first contact (at their initial remodeling seminar), we saw nothing but professionalism all the way through the process. Before work began, we met each of the subcontractors, reviewed the plans, and were provided with a complete scope of work and schedule for payment. No surprises. When work began, our project manager, Chris, kept us informed ON A DAILY BASIS via email and photos. No one I've talked to believes that level of communication. The company sends a weekly report, detailing what is happening, and what the goals for the week are, as well as outlining what will be done in the next week. The spreadsheet shows the schedule of payment and the status of orders and deliveries. Again, no surprises. "Over and above" is the only way I can describe the service we have received. Whether it was attention to our security requests, protection of the areas of the house not involved in the reno, or looking for contractors for work outside the scope of JDR's project, JDR exceeded our expectations time and again. Having purchased a house with a 30-year old kitchen, we knew we had to do a full kitchen remodel before moving in. There was also an opportunity to do a full 30-year " service " on the entire house (3000 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms which we wanted to make 4.5) but since we work too hard already, the prospect was a bit scary. We had heard too many friends telling us how their remodelling projects had gone on for double the time, double the money, ending up with them surrendering on small annoying finishing touches because they just wanted their life back... We met with Todd Jackson at one of JDR seminars. We felt that if there was one company we could trust to make this full house remodel happen while accommodating with our busy lives, it would be JDR thanks to its fully integrated approach. In a major project, you prepare yourself for things going wrong but nothing did. Twice, I was a little unsure about how my Master Bathroom and Laundry would turn out. I shared my concerns and was grateful for how quick Don Thomas (Project Manager) and Jen Pinto (Interior Designer) came up with suggestions that fully eased my small concerns. Looking back, these two small hiccups were all down to me not visualizing the entire finished project and panicking a bit along the way. Nonetheless they both listened and made suggestions that all turned out to add to the finish result : Don and Jen are huge assets to JDR and I wouldn't want to work with anybody else. We could write pages on the exceptional quality of the work, the professionalism of every man and woman who worked on our project, from Stina Nielsen, Brent Stevens to wonderful and cheerful Al and all the framers, painters, tilers and electricians. All of them made the experience actually enjoyable because they all take pride in their work and it shows! We are people who won't settle for average in anything we do and we know what we want and don't want. The planning and entire execution of our remodel was flawless and the attention to details from all at JDR was outstanding. If you are not yet convinced that you need to work with JDR, let me try again : 1/ They finished the project 3 weeks EARLY. 2/ Down to every little paint patch up detail, buzzing LED bulbs and missing screw. Things we could not even have seen were pointed out, added on the punch list and SOLVED quickly. Everything got done ! 3/ The house looks spectacular !! It's interesting how some people can call not accepting jobs that come in below minimum budget poor customer service or a scam. That's not JDR. Our experience with them was not the horror stories of cut rate contractors that do more damage than good on your home or disappear with the check. JDR is a highly professional, award winning company that does absolute top notch work by the best of the best in every trade - from the owner, Todd, to the design team (Pam) to our project manager (Joe) and all of the craftsmen that came into our early 1960's era home and transformed it into an amazingly modern open, bright, warm and inviting home that is the envy of our friends and family. We chose JDR because they operate with a high level of integrity and communication - both internal and with the client. We always knew what was coming up the following week and were able to plan accordingly. Just got off the phone with them - just an FYI they told me right off the bat without knowing anything about the size or scope of my kitchen that their kitchen remodel work starts at a minimum of 75K so if your budget or scope is below that no need to check this company out. Their Houzz price range & averages are way off/inaccurate from that so don't trust that either. At least the woman was honest and I didn't waste time going into the showroom. I'm so happy with my remodel! The whole team was great to work with, from the beginning. George gave us a fair bid - while listening to our ideas and restrictions. Alison and Erika came up with an outstanding design, taking our input and steering us in the right direction when they felt there were better solutions. Lucas was attentive and always in touch (expected from the foreman, but while you were having a baby, Lucas!). The cleaning crew were always polite, the contractors they hired did outstanding work, and they all kept the house as clean as possible, considering the dirt that came up everyday. Our experience with Jackson, during our whole house remodel, was disappointing. Here are a few examples. Jackson's roofing subcontractor, who was replacing our shingle roof with tiles, littered our yard, deck, driveway and our neighbors' driveway with nails. I asked Jackson to correct this situation, but it continued day after day after day. One day I came home from work, entered the house and walked into a wall - literally. Jackson had built a wall in our living room that was not in the plans. During the demolition stage, Jackson removed the crawl space vent covers. I expressed my concern to Jackson that this created entry points for mice and rats. Jackson assured me the vents would be covered at the end of the project. Months later, when the remodel was concluding, the vent covers had not been replaced. Upon my prompting, Jackson replaced some of the covers. Too little, too late. Several rats had set up housekeeping under our house. My husband and I set traps, resolved the rodent problem and hired a handyman cover the remaining vents. Unfortunately, we missed one of the rats. We discovered it when the odor of its dead body permeated our home. Jackson did not construct our new front walk of exposed aggregate as specified in the contract. Instead, Jackson poured a concrete walk then painted it. Now, a year later, the paint is chipping off and we are faced with hiring another contractor to redo the walk. read more

I then asked for any other specialist to speak with and the receptionist claimed that they were "ALL on the other line." LOL. We had an entire house remodel in Encinitas. Other than going a few weeks over schedule it was an excellent experience. All workmanship was wonderful. Only 3 MINOR issues for an entire house during the whole reno! That's amazing and they fixed them with no questions or problems. They want things done of the highest quality even before we did. Everything time we found something that needed to be done, they were either one step ahead of us and ready to fix it. And if not, were more than happy to fix it. From the reception staff to the designer to the project manager, all were friendly, easy going, professional, accommodating, and would get back with us within hours after we needed them....even on weekends. Everyday we would receive an email on project updates. They have great ideas on things we never would even think of too. I would highly recommend this company and the Jackson team. read more
