We had been to Reba's a few weeks ago while passing through Atoka and thought we'd try Jackson's on this trip. We had calf fries for an appetizer and thought they were just okay. Ordered our entrees and our side salads were really good but once my BBQ ribs arrived I was thoroughly disappointed. Having judged BBQ in the past I wouldn't call these BBQ as they were either boiled or steamed and then lightly sauced. I really wanted to like this place, but the food was mediocre at best. Grabbed food here when Reba's was way too busy. The building is beautiful and classy. Servers were great and helpful, even though the place was slammed from overflow traffic from across the street. We really enjoyed the sweet tea and got refills and to go beverages too. The food was not great though. Been through Atoka many times but never veered off Hwy 69 into downtown. Based on reviews, we made this a planned lunch stop on a recent motorcycle trip. Got there just at the end of the lunch rush on a Friday. Clearly a favorite place for locals. I tried the burger and it was good. Not a top 5, but way better than any place I've ridden past in town for sure. Tater tots weren't real hot--I think they might have been sitting around a bit. Might be a place to try things other than a burger & tots. Overall, a suitable place to grab lunch on your way through town but probably won't be a destination spot for us. read more

While traveling on Christmas Eve, we pulled into this restaurant for a hamburger and were surprised with a delicious Christmas dinner . The owner said it was their way to give back to the community. Meh... I'm sure this place gets a lot of overflow from the place next door. Went for lunch around 1:30 on a Friday. Service: 2-3 visible wait staff. The place was somewhat full but, there were several empty tables with dishes on them. Sign at the door read, seat yourself. We had to find menus. Only table was where one of the waitresses had her laptop, clothing and drink ware. We were told we could sit there but, never put her stuff away. Took forever to get drinks and food. No very friendly but somewhat tentative. Food: Drinks were big glasses of ice. Cheap quality and quantity food. The club sandwich consisted of mostly bread, in which you have no choice of and the use processed American cheese. 1 slice of pressed ham and turkey. The bacon cheese burger had 1 strip of bacon cut in half that, tasted like bacon bits, no choice of cheese (got the same processed cheese) and no choice of how to cook the meat. It was a thin patty to no surprise. When our food was served we saw a very small amount of French fries on our plates. Go thing because they were so undercooked we passed after a few of them. They were cold greasy unseasoned fries. Bathroom: Men's room door doesn't lock unless you Jimmy with it. Dirty but, guys don't care. Ambiance: It's a family restaurant so expect a screaming kid or what we heard, 2. Overall not a good experience with anything. Thought I would give them another try, went for breakfast Saturday morning, only 6 people at one table when we got there. Waitress was good got our order and we waited about 30 minutes and my wife asked if it was going to be much longer we would pay forcoffee and cancel orders. She checked and said another 5 minutes, ok it finally came. Just a simple breakfast $8.99 for eggs sausage and hash browns. Eggs should have been scrambled but they looked fried and chopped up, hash browns were dehydrated but were not soaked long enough cause they were hard and tough. Update: well we wanted to give this place at least a second chance the building is absolutely beautiful. I had chef salad and my husband had chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy with steamed vegetables. He said the mashed potatoes gravy and steamed vegetables were all right. (nothing that you would want the recipe for at home however) The chicken fried steak he said was extra extra thin with lots of breading. My chef salad lettuce was Cut up with a knife and the iceberg lettuce was I like yellow. The ham was two slices of ham lunch meat cut into little squares. I ate the lunchmeat and a few little tomatoes and boiled eggs and left most of the lettuce. The restaurant is approximately 75 to 78° indoors. I noticed a beautiful bar and ask if we could get a cocktail and she said yeah we have the things to make it with but to be honest we know nothing about it I just look it up online and make it for you.. it just seems like such a waste of a beautiful establishment! Wow in a little bit larger town you see buildings like this where something like this would flourish as a wonderful place for lunch and a great place to go have a drink in the evening and possibly listen to live music.. however this place is definitely not that. sadly read more

The interior looks amazing, however, we came around 5 pm so it was kind of dark and there isn't much light inside. Food was good though, I'd definitely eat here again. Server was very friendly. Ventured in this past Saturday after attempting to eat at Reba's Place. We were told by the hostess at Reba's Place that there was a 4 hour wait and we noticed that half of the tables were not being sat - nothing is worth waiting 4 hours for so we were pleasantly surprised to walk next door to the Jackson Family Restaurant. While they were being 'pushed', our server was very nice and did her very best. They have a beautiful bar area that is not being utilized like it should and they could benefit from live local music. My family was traveling back to Texas and stopped at Jackson Family Dining in Atoka based on the positive Yelp reviews. I can confirm those reviews! The restaurant is housed inside a beautiful, old building and the inside dining room was clean and expansive. (The massive and ornate bar was impressive!) My dad had the special of the day - a fried pork chop with choice of two sides. He said the pork chop was very tender and the sides hot and fresh. I had chicken fried steak (also tender) and my sister had the hamburger (big!) and do not miss the hand breaded onion rings. They were so good! Our waitress was attentive and fast and I definitely recommend stopping in to this lovely restaurant for a meal. You won't regret it! read more

I was really disappointed the reviews I read on their website seemed legit. But when i got there they wasnt super busy so i was thinking wouldnt be a long wait It was a seat yourself so i was ok with that but then it took 10 minutes for waitress to come to table. She apologized so I was pleased with that. But then we ordered their Friday fish special. They took forever..people who came in 10 minutes or so after got their food and had ordered the samething. We had to stop the waitress to see what the wait was. She then told us they was plating it right now.. 22 minutes for our food..and the food was cold ..beans was cold everything.. dont appreciate being told they are plating when its clearly just a plate that was forgotten. And the flies was too much if You want to fight flies, eat cold food and wait forever this is the spot. DONT RECOMMEND.. I SENT OUR PLATE BACK do better guys..the place is way to beautiful to have those kinda problems. read more

Don't let the charming location fool you. The food is mediocre and the service is very slow. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time because they had just opened. I have given them several chances and each time the service below par. The first time they gave me the wrong steak. The second time the hamburger was overcooked and dry. The third time they served instant potatoes, which is confusing considering they serve fresh cut fries and baked potatoes. The kitchen said they don't have an experienced enough cook to make real mashed potatoes, which is bizarre. How hard is it to prepare real mashed potatoes? The menu is unimaginative and you can get the same food at the Atoka Truck Stop or local diner. The only reason it gets two stars is the beautiful historic building it is located in and the steak (once they have me the correct cut) was surprisingly tasty. The gorgeous antique bar is not full service and a waste revenue potential. Last time it was covered in boxes and clutter. It is clear they have very little experience in the restaurant industry. In a small town you need to offer something different and something superior to Chilis. Jackson's Family Dining does neither. It is a missed opportunity to provide something unique in a town that desperately needs it. read more
