We are soul food lovers, so we had to stop in to try Jackson's while in Miami. The fried catfish was great, as were all the egg dishes. The fried liver and onions were solid. Service was friendly. Our only complaint was cleanliness. The table we sat down at had visible crumbs on it, and the server didn't seem to notice. The only thing they have gone for themselves is the price there is no way I would ever return here again from the video alone. The grits look horrible asked for American cheese. They gave me chatter, but I just didn't even feel like saying anything. I've eaten here a few times in the past 5 years, and it has not gotten better. This most recent visit I ordered catfish, yams, and some breakfast items. I was really hungry! I was disappointed when I saw the canned yams. Like fresh out of the can, nothing added. My pancakes tastes like cheap box mix and the macaroni and cheese needed something. The service is always warm and friendly and the restaurant is clean. The kitchen needs some love as far as the ingredients go. Fresh ingredients will always bring your customers back. The food was good. I tried to call in my order but never got anyone on the phone. I decided to drive there anyway. Got there and could barely park in the parking lot. It's not a huge parking lot and the spaces is tight. I would suggest parking somewhere else. I stayed because I was already in. Figured by the time I leave the other cars should be gone and I could get out. The inside is way bigger than it looks on the outside. When you come in you wait to be seated by waiter. They have booths and tables for seating. They also have a bar seating area. Since I was placing to go order I went to bar area to place order. They have contact less menus you when first walked in. It is more descriptive than the menu online. I eventually caught a waitress attention to place my order. She was rude because she was rushing to take my order. Then before I could ask a question she walked off. I usually place my order and wait outside. I had to stay inside and wait for my order because she didn't take my name or number, didn't have a name tag and didn't give me a order or ticket number. The food took 30 minutes to come out. Which I knew it would since it's made to order and they was busy busy. I will not be returning to this location but I will be visiting there other location to try some other items like: the liver and grits, turkey wings and peach cobbler. read more

Other items on the menu were very reasonably priced as well. The portions were also decent - I could not finish all my food, even though it was very tasty. You can find parking on the street around the building, and there are a few spots behind the building. We went on a Sunday morning and was seated immediately, but I believe it's because we beat the after church crowd. The setting is very casual. And to my surprise, there is bar seating. A pure joy to have experienced. We were promptly and pleasantly greeted by two servers. The menu offers so many selections it's difficult to choose. I opted for the meatloaf, greens, mac n cheese and yellow rice. The hubby got smothered liver and onions, cornbread dressing, greens, mac n cheese. We were greeted and seated immediately. There was not a lot of people in the restaurant. There's memorabilia throughout the restaurant. Service: Our waitress Ms. Brenda was AMAZING she had a wonderful disposition hilarious and great personality. So great that I had to take a picture with her before I left. I will say it did take a moment for us to get the food once we ordered so don't be in a hurry. If you are in a hurry you might want to order to go. Food: I enjoyed the French toast and the thick slice of country ham. Others in my party order grits and Salmon Croquet and grits and catfish. There were no complaints and they said that the mimosas were very good and heavy handed on the liquor. The food was soooo delicious OMG. Came down here for the AfroBeatz festival for Memorial Day weekend and was trying to to find the best comfort food in Miami. The shrimp and grits I had was super tasty and flavorful and it is seasoned right!!! My go-to spot for Soul Food in Miami. When you enter this place you are part of a long history of Black/Caribbean/Southern heritage. The food is so good, full of flavor, and always the right price. They serve breakfast until around 11, servers like Anita are so attentive and sweet, they keep you updated on any items that are missing or any alternatives you'd like. Inside, the mixed combination of booths, tables, and wrap-around counter seating gives the place both a spacious and small town feel. We came for lunch on a Friday and there were lots of other diners. The staff was friendly and to my surprise our waiter highly recommended the grilled chicken (he eats it everyday!). Serendipitously, I had independently decided on the grilled chicken, but being that we were at a soul food restaurant, I was also debating if I should have been ordering something fried... The grilled chicken was juicy and perfectly salted and charred. For my three sides, I chose the mac and cheese, pigeon peas and rice, and broccoli. The rice was salty and the sweetness of the mac and cheese. caught me off guard. But the steamed broccoli was nicely seasoned. First time here and I was not disappointed. My boyfriend took me here for brunch at about 11:30am. I ordered the bacon with 2 scrambled eggs, hash, a biscuit, and hot chocolate. The food was made to order and hot on delivery. My boyfriend ordered the red velvet pancakes and I tried them, they were so good. The place was extremely clean. While visiting South Beach my sister wanted to stop by Jackson Soul. Now I'm not much of a soul food eater since that's what I cook on the regular, but I was ok with going. There was six of us and we were promptly seated and given menus. Our waiter came over and told us that he would be with us in a minute. That minute lasted closer to twenty minutes in a restaurant that had the AC on high in March and we were freezing. We had to ask several times for him to come and take our orders. They gave us biscuits for the wait. So finally we ordered and I have to say that I have never experienced what happened next in all my years of eating out....... I was first to receive my food -- oxtails with rice and peas, string beans and potato salad. It took fifteen minutes for the next person to receive their food and fifteen minutes after that for the next person and so on and so forth. Like I said there was six of us so by the time the last person received their food I was finished with mine. Now the restaurant was not crowded and there were at least two other tables waiting for a long time just to get their checks. For the life of us we could not figure out why the service was so slow. The food at least was hot and tasted ok - I've had better oxtails and I've had worse or maybe because I had sat for so long in the cold that I couldn't taste anything. I came to this class as part of the FIU Honors Course Miami in Miami. We stopped in Overtown and the entire class came to eat here. The first thing I noticed was how nice everyone was, as soon as we came in they were already expecting us and had set up a long table for over 20 students. They were so patient and sweet taking our orders. The food came out INSANELY fast and was so fresh and delicious. All the students were satisfied and ordered a huge variety of plates from Ox tail to barbecue ribs and there wasn't a single complaint in the house. They really treated us like family and I know that the class and future Miami in Miami students will definitely be coming back to this spot read more
