The food was good, but not for the price. Food is cook by order. In a hurry not the place to order.

Walking in feels less like entering a dining room and more like stepping into your grandmas kitchen. The clatter of forks, the low hum of conversation, the unhurried hospitality it's a rhythm only established kitchens earn, a rhythm Jackson Soul Food has perfected over generations. The food arrives the way soul food should: unapologetically hearty, full of flavor, and untouched by trends. The fried whiting is a quiet masterpiece thin, impossibly crisp, and seasoned with the confidence of a kitchen that knows exactly what it's doing. The grits, creamy and barely salted, serve as a reminder that restraint is also a skill. And the biscuits? Buttery, tender, and almost spiritual when paired with a smear of house-made jam. But it's the oxtails that demand a moment of silence. Slow-braised until the meat gives in without protest, they come cloaked in a glossy gravy that tastes like hours of patience and years of practice. It is the sort of dish that reminds you why soul food endures: because it's built on discipline, memory, and love. Jackson Soul Food isn't flashy there's no neon signage or influencer-designed plating. What it offers instead is something rarer: consistency. A commitment to the dishes that built its legacy, not the ones chasing social media novelty. In a city where restaurants rise and fall with the tides, Jackson remains proudly rooted. Come hungry, come early, come with respect for a place that has quietly shaped Miami's culinary identity. This isn't just breakfast. It's a piece of Miami's soul served on a plate and one that continues to deserve its place in the city's story.

My eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon was nice and crisp. My guests ordered fried conch, which was golden brown and tender, but the highlight was the shrimp and waffles! It was so good, I ordered a side of shrimp to go! This is a very casual, Caribbean/soul food restaurant. The food is good and our service was excellent. Can't wait to go back!

This time, we showed up around 2pm, the oxtails were cooked- so she ordered the oxtails and grits, I ordered the shrimp and grits. Can I tell you how disappointed I was?!? This plate of shrimp and grits, the cream sauce looked like it had been reheated from frozen in the microwave. It looked a little curdled. I'm always down for an adventure- so I ate it. The taste wasn't bad, it just wasn't really good. Sad to say- it was mid at best. Plus, the shrimp still had the tails on. Imagine that! My sister said the oxtails weren't cooked enough- she had to cut the meat off the bones. Hopefully this was just a really off day. Based on my first experience, maybe I should stick to morning visits.. but I'm sure I'll return.

I am more than ecstatic to write this review! I've been coming to this restaurant for over 20…read moreyears--since I was a child--and the food never disappoints. From the simple fish empanadas to the whole fried snapper, everything is delicious. Their seafood soup and conch soup are absolute must-try items for me; just writing this makes me crave them. If you order the fried shrimp or fish pieces, make sure to get the sauce as well. It's a great spot for healthy eating or for pescatarians since they only serve seafood. The service is straightforward: you just stand in line to order. While it isn't always packed, there are days with long lines and heavy wait times, but the staff tries to be fast and efficient. As for the ambiance, the restaurant is located in the heart of Allapattah. It features outdoor seating and smells of the sea; it might not look like much, but I guarantee the food is out of this world. You won't find another place like this with such fresh ingredients and amazing flavors. I will recommend this to my children and grandchildren, and I hope my entire legacy continues this tradition. To my fellow Yelpers: what are you waiting for? Go check them out!

So far, their black beans and rice are the best I had and I have been here a long time. You can order the cook food and sit at the outdoor tables to Wait or Dine; I have done both.
