Great little southern cookin place. Maybe I shouldn't say little, the portions are HUGE. and everything is really cheap. It's cafeteria style with mostly fried meats and a variety of side dish options. You choose a meat and how many sides you want, a meat and one side is only $4.59. They also have an all you can eat option but I've never tried that because it's pretty heavy food and one plate is plenty. read more

Some friends and I were passing through and inquired about a good place to eat. We were directed to Jackson's. We sat down and started reviewing the menu. Then, people started streaming in. Must be a popular place I thought. Well, I wasn't dissappointed. Despite the rush, our server checked on us, apologised for not getting to us quicker, and made sure we had all that we asked for. Sure, it took a little longer but thats the way things work when you all of a sudden get a rush of people. Now to the food. We were there for breakfast. I ordered an omlette and toast with a side of bacon. All was done perfectly! The bacon was crispy just like I like it without being over cooked. The eggs moist and flavorful with no over done edges, or any thing that made you think someone wasn't paying attention. If I lived closer, this would be a frequent stop of mine. Fabulous! Great local charm, great food. A little off the interstate but worth the trip. It's cafeteria style food bar is incredibly varied. Any place that serves lamb fries has to be some good cooking. I had the chicken livers and they did not disappoint. Husband had handbattered chicken fried chicken. It was perfect. I am giving this 4 stars because of the customers service was wonderful. I wanted something different than the ordinary for a road trip. So I decided to venture off and visit a local diner. It looked a little sketchy when we pulled up, parking in the rear. The atmosphere was nice and homey. Staff was great and friendly. The menu was attractive. The food was ok, if you like a lot of fried food.. Plus it was warm to warm. Overall the food was good. It could use a little TLC- or attention to details on the small things- cleanliness.. salt and pepper shakers.. final thoughts- a good place, I would return and eat again, but be specific on my food. Personally, I don't see why Jackson's doesn't have a much higher rating. I have had their breakfast a many Saturday mornings, always top notch. However, this is my first dinner with them. Thanks to the reviews I read about their Reuben Sandwich I took the plunge. Well boys and girls just one gander at the pic I poster and you will understand. Sandwich, one side (I chose the side to salad) and drink, just $8.99 10 minutes later I had one of the best Reubens I've ever tasted. More than I could eat and the dogs enjoyed the left overs. Kinda wish I had room because the blueberry cheesecake looked delicious. Now it's time for props to Peyton, my waitress, totally delightful. OM G!!! In town working and had to ck this place out..the reviews did not lie. The food was AMAZING!! The service was def good but I dont think they get a diverse customer base..lol.. We always try to dine at local restaurants when we visit anywhere. So when we saw Jackson's, that's where we decided to go. Walking in felt like stepping back into the old age of diners. That's meant as a compliment. The food was delicious. 2 of us had chicken, 1 had meatloaf, and 1 had open-faced turkey. Our dinners had so much food that we couldn't eat it all. Excellent service. We came for breakfast and my coffee cup stayed fill and warm. I had the corned beef breakfast. Fresh called corn beef, beat food for a fair price. Hubby had the Jackson Country Breakfast, enough food to last him for the day. We ordered both of our eggs over easy and they were made exactly as they should be. Every since the Denny's in my hometown closed I have been searching for the closest thing to their "Super Bird" turkey sandwich. I took a chance today and called Jacksons to see if they had anything close. The lady I spoke with was so nice and accommodating. Although they did not have a turkey melt they had a ham and cheese melt. They were able to modify it for me and when I got it it was delicious!! Even down to the pickles and seasoned fries. My husband and I ate here Saturday and it was delicious. It is a mom & pop type place with cafeteria style serving. But come with your appetite, the plates are big enough to share or have leftovers for another meal. They have a huge variety of vegetables to choose from & several meats / entree also. My husband had the pork chop (huge!), with greens, pea, & green beans. He couldn't finish all of it. Your definately get your money's worth! I had meat loaf with fried taters, Mac n cheese & green beans. I had over half my food left to take home! The servings are huge! It was right at $20 for our meal with two drinks. Not bad at all. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only reason I give a 4 is some of the silverware was not as clean as should be and the trays could use another wipe down. They do have packets of plastic forks/ spoons also. The place is not very big and it was fairly busy while we were there. We will go back for sure. It was a good meal. Free dessert on your first visit here! Need I say more?! Walk, run, speed or comply to the law, just get here. It would literally be worth the drive from Lexington if you're looking for a place that serves southern, cheat day like food. When I walked in, I wasn't expecting it to be buffet style, but it was. You can still go with the buffet and only choose a meat and one side, you don't have to choose the endless buffet. The friendly staff serves you the food in a cafeteria like fashion, so it's not the ordinary buffet experience, you know, the kind where you touch the same serving spoon that Billy Jo Bob and Ellie Mae touched too. I had already scoped out the menu on here, and I just had Thanksgiving dinnerS a few days ago, so I opted for something lighter and decided on the buffalo chicken sandwich and seasoned fries. The only bad thing was that on the menu it specifically said crispy chicken sandwich but after about 5 minutes, the waitress or whoever took my order at the front, came out and asked it I wanted fried/battered or grilled chicken. Oh well, not a huge deal, but by the time that I got my meal, my Mr. had already finished his meal, and it was huge! I just had to be difficult and order something different. The sandwich was actually two breaded chicken fingers dipped in buffalo sauce and garnished with ranch, lettuce and tomato. The fries were excellent and everything was piping hot. I'm so glad I tried this place! Delicious home cooking. I got meat and two sides and it was a FULL plate! I don't know where they would have put a third side... The ribs were fall off the bone and very yummy. Mac n cheese was none of that gourmet stuff, just just good ol' kentucky style comfort food like my grandmother makes. Sweet tea is good and sweet. Green beans had a lot of flavor. All most too much for me because I tend to make thing on the medium to bland side, but my husband would much prefer these I'm sure. The chocolate pie was tempting. The staff is super friendly, treating you like family (without being overly chatty to us introverts) and much of the clientele seem to know each other. I only wish Cincinnati had a restaurant this good. We've been coming to jackson's for years, not only because the food is terrific but because various members of our party can all get exactly what they most like here. Vegetarian? Endless variety of delicious sides that, together, make a meal. Old fashioned palate? Your classic meat and four (or three or two or one) can be chosen to fit what your appetite desires. Fast food more your bag? Jackson's can lay out a hamburger and fries to rival any. And the breakfasts are great, too. What I'm saying is, you don't have to adapt your tastes to fit what's on offer: they adapt to suit you. And unlike a lot of country American home cooking places, the food is not overly salted here. I was slightly less excited to open my to go order of meatloaf and mashed potatoes with white gravy....especially since I ordered salmon patties and mashed potatoes with brown gravy.
