This place is sketchy. Went in for an oil change he and they said my oil plug as stripped and it'd be 150 bucks to replace. I said I'll take it back to main st lube since they did it last. The guy said wait okay we can do it for 75 and I said no I'm good. Took it back to main st lube and they had zero issues repairing it. I only took to Jackson's since there was a line at main st. Definitely trying to stick me for a 150 bucks of made up repairs. read more

Took in our 89 Chevy to get smogged, and the Smog tech was super rude and just seemed like a total grump. If any Smog techs want to open a business here in Susanville all you have to be is friendly and I'm sure you'll make great business. We previously took in our old Honda to get smogged, and it did not pass, they said that we already paid for the Smog test, and to go get our car fixed and bring it back and if it passes then we're good because we have already paid. This was the only reason we took our 89 Chevy in. They did the test and it did not pass. But said we have to pay again when we bring it back for another test. I thought it was lame. If you're having a decent day, I wouldn't step foot in this place because you'll probably be leaving with your day ruined. read more

All the one star reviews you see are on the smog. Every car I buy is an old beater and as long as you take are of your old beater it will do the job. But the smog guy has always told me to take it to the dump. I think the good reviews here must all be brand news cars because they seem to have a prejudice toward new cars and their people. The owner however, Mr Jackson, who often tends the pay window, he's a very sweet kind man, and I don't know why he keeps the foul mouthed of his crew on without disciplining them for unprofessional behavior. I brought my car in for a smog. I like the guys here. They are helpful and funny. Got in and out in 30 minutes. It's a little unclear that their service station is also a gas station. So walk in the door where you'd think to pay for gas to request a service. And make an appointment first. That's the first thing they asked when I walked through the door. read more

I had a trailer emergency while at my home in Lake Almanor. After pulling my trailer down from WA state I noticed I had a bald tire. I saw that the hub was loose and probably wobbled the whole 800 miles. I got tires but they couldn't repack and adjust the wheel bearing for 4 days which was after I was leaving. After calling several shops I called Jackson's Service Center and spoke with a guy who said they could do it the next morning at 9:00AM. I got there early and met Buck who told me that he was the one I spoke with the day before. It turned out I had damaged the inside bearing and needed the bearing and grease seal. Buck drove to the auto parts store and picked up the parts himself. The other hub had the same issue and he ordered the parts for delivery. He reassembled the hub and I was ready to go. He was fast, efficient, and did only what was necessary. I was on my way again. I cannot recommend this shop enough. The cost was reasonable and staff was professional. I will certainly use them in the future. read more

I love this little gem! One of the last places on earth that you get full service. I love getting my fuel here one of the last gasoline stations not owned by a foreigner. My father's van lost power when we were out in town, and we had it towed to Jackson's as it was the only place that could take us on short notice. They replaced the battery but didn't bother to test the car to see if anything else was wrong, so about 20 minutes after picking up the van it died again. So we brought it back, and the mechanic at Jackson's said it's the alternator, which is what my father suspected in the first place but Jackson's didn't bother to test it to make sure. Jackson's said they were going to replace the alternator within 2 days, but the weekend goes by and we don't hear anything. So we finally call them and the mechanic has come down with covid and can't do the repair. Not only did they not call to inform us our van was going to be delayed, but they didn't care to tell us we might have been exposed to covid. I'm astounded by the incompetence of Jackson's Service Center. They might be ok for an oil change or smog check, but clearly no one here has enough intelligence to diagnose any major car issue, and they certainly don't care about the safety of their customers. And to top it off, Jackson's left us without a car for two weeks with the Dixie fire looming and counties being evacuated left and right around us. read more

Awful service. This is the kind of business that makes people not want to deal with local businesses. I took my bronco to get smogged, it did not pass. I was informed they had absolutely no idea how much it would cost to repair it so it could pass smog or what the problem was I drove to Redding and it passed smog with no issue. I hesitantly took my dodge to Jackson's once more to be smogged. I called the day of the appointment to confirm the appointment, to which they said, yes bring it down. Upon my arrival they informed me the smog machine was broken and they had no idea when it would be repaired. It's sad to see local businesses treat customers so poorly because they know local customers have limited options. read more

I drove 70 miles to get my car 6 year old car smogged. Got here the tech ran the machine and then came to tell me that my check engine light was on and it didn't pass. Are you kidding me, I drove seventy miles with no check engine light and the light mysteriously appeared after you plugged your machine? I knew something in that machine caused that. The diagnostic code said it was some kind of communication error. I took it somewhere else and it passed without needing to fix anything. read more

I brought my truck in for a smog and the first thing I noticed was how unbelievably rude and disrespectful the smog guy was, like he was upset that he had to smog my truck. This place is very unprofessional and dirty no place for customers to sit down and wait. You have to wait out by the gas pumps or on the sidewalk. This yelp is about the smog Guynot the service station, so I make our appointment to get a smog at 11 o'clock I get over there, the guy thinks maybe he could do the smog on my RV or maybe not, he states that one of his machines is down, sorry screws are wrong with his machine went to the office several times to apparently didn't make telephone call, This goes on about an hour, then he makes out a work order signs if he says I look at the work order is says scribbled on it $100 whether it's smog's or not you're going to pay the hundred dollars ' so I wouldn't mind paying $100 for the smog which is twice to much, but the way you put it on there I'm gonna pay the hundred dollars even if it doesn't smog, apparently there's only two smog people in Susanville I wouldn't go to either one of them if I was you, I took my smog RV to a fella in Quincy California got it done for $70 and he didn't Didn't tell me if it didn't smog here I had to pay no no no dad is cheating the public and that's all I got to say about this mob guy read more

Bought tires here my first winter in the high desert. Al was really helpful and showed me samples of rubber from a freezer so I could see the difference between winter tire rubber and regular tire rubber. I was disappointed when I got my summer tires back though, the bead was shredded on two of them. All it takes is some soapy water and they should come off the tire changer smoothly. Maybe it was somebody new, I'm not really sure. Had them do a service once on my truck too, they were fast and the charges were reasonable. read more

Not only did they drive us home and picked us up upon completion of repair, but they were professional, knowledgeable, experienced, HONEST, friendly and identified the problem immediately. I had the pleasure of dealing with these folks on October 1, 2018 at which time I stopped at their shop to get a smog certificate for a vehicle I had purchased in Carson City, NV. Their service was prompt and efficient. They also provided me with a quote for new tires for the same vehicle. I topped off my gas tank before leaving and they even cleaned the windows for me. Full service at a pump-it-yourself price! Kudos to Josh, Caleb, and Al for their fast friendly service! The only thing that kept me from giving them all five stars was the fact that the guy who cleaned the windows finished up with a microfiber cloth that left some 'haze' on the windows. read more

Took our truck to get a smog done. He couldn't find the pieces during his visual inspection from a google search, so decided to not continue. Had to wait for him to return over the weekend... Once he was shown where the parts was that he was not seeing, he agreed to continue a smog test the next day. After waiting around, I finally called in and the tech said he decided he didn't want to smog it. No calls, no updates, and clearly don't know what they are doing. Maybe next time the can have more courtesy since they lack confidence. He basically said he has to search everything on google to know and because it was a diesel, they didn't want to mess with it. Terrible service all around. Walked into the office to see 5 guys standing and sitting around looking at their phones and not one of them acknowledged me until I cleared my throat to say I had a smog appointment. I was told it would be an hour wait (amateurs), and then 45 minutes later I received a call that they couldn't even start smogging my car. I was walking around in 100 degree heat waiting for that call, and when I got there, there were no signs that they even popped the hood. To no surprise, all 5 guys were still standing around in the same places and (what appeared to be) the owner made a rather rude remark that wasn't in the least bit helpful. There's not many options to smog a car here in Susanville, but being a 'small' town, I feel like the service should be that much better being that smaller towns are usually more friendly. But I guess that what you get with people who never went to college. read more
