Popped in for an afternoon snack. Since my wife is celiac we could only order the nachos. She's had it before and hated the 3 chili sauce so we ordered it without. Waiter/bartender insisted we get some sauce but he'd bring it on the side. Asked which meat for the topping, we chose pulled pork. Half an hour later we got the nachos, covered in 3 chili sauce with, at best an ounce of pulled pork. We told the waitress about the sauce and, since we were very hungry kept the plate and tried to scrape the horrible sauce off. It didn't work. Told the bartender about the sauce when he asked why we didn't eat the nachos. I had to chase him down to get the bill, which BTW came to $32.00 for the uneddible nachos, pre tax or tip. We enjoyed the pepperoni pizza, french onion soup and schnitzel burger! Our waitress was extremely nice and recommended us the cheesecake squares next door which were absolutely amazing. We were passing through St.jacobs to tour a wedding venue and are so happy we stopped by to try their food. Will be back again soon :) Great place and great food! Great service, food, and Beer. My friend had the Pizza and I had the schnitzel. He raved about the pizza and the quality of ingredients. My schnitzel was also great with a side of kraut. I should have ordered extra kraut. I opted for the Dutch apple pie A' la mode. The pie was just the right complement to the dinner. Was walking with my family and this restaurant caught their eye. Popped in, i ordered some sprite and poutine (I LOVE poutine) Cleanliness was pretty good, Although there were some specks of dirt. We ordered the mushroom sandwich and the pan roasted salmon. Also ordered the scallop potatoes on the side for each. Overall rating is a complete failure. The scallops were not cooked, the potatoes were still crunchy! The mushroom sandwich was meh at best, most definitely not worth the $20 I paid. The salmon was 'just don't order it'. You don't have to many choices in St Jacob's Village but I would choose another because this place is just not cutting it. read more

Food is over priced, and there is a lack of non fried options. The fryer oil smells nasty, like it hasn't been cleaned in weeks. The spinach dip was meh, the bread served with it was soggy on one side and toasted on the other, so strange. The pickle served with the tiny soup bowl of spinach dip was some how to vinegary and to sweet and had the texture of a sponge. The music is great if your a boomer, it's horrible otherwise and to loud. Service is absolute crap, not once has the server come back to check on us to see if we needed anything else or to ask if we are enjoying our food. read more

We had the schnitzel sandwich and portobello sandwich - one with fries (which were really fresh and crisp) and one with side salad - they were excellent. The schnitzel is made with pork and the dill sauce on the portobello was really good. Our server Kiera was delightful and engaging. Would definitely recommend for an enjoyable lunch! read more

As an out-of-town visitor who travels to St. Jacobs every few months, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Jacob's Grill stays open for the dinner crowd on weekdays (i.e. 10pm late). That's hard to come by in St. Jacobs, with the lone exception of Benjamin's! I've been to Jacob's Grill many times now, and have never had a bad experience. It's a great place with a nice modern-yet-inviting atmosphere to grab an after-work drink, or dinner. And lunch on the patio is wonderful too. One of my favorite parts of dining here though is the wait staff - they've always been incredibly friendly and accommodating. The food is above-average. I have enjoyed everything I've tried here. Some highlights are the cedar-plank brie, the Thai Noodles, and the Jacob's Mac and Cheese. The Black and Blue burger was also delicious, if you're looking for a red meat fix! And the crispy potato wedges are seriously some of the best I've ever had (and I'm kind of a snob about good 'fries' of any kind). I'd highly recommend dining here if you're looking for a relaxed, but great, dinner or in the St. Jacobs area. read more

We stopped at Jacob's Grill to enjoy an early light dinner before boarding our bus to return to the GTA. My friend and I shared a plate of nachos which were good but slightly too salty. Another friend had fish n' chips which looked good and was a hearty portion. I did manage to sneak a bite of fish and a French fry off her plate and it was very good! We had a round of daiquiris for which they were happy to substitute a different type of rum upon request. Service was excellent! It was fairly quiet for an early Sunday evening but it didn't bother us. They do have some TV screens so I managed to watch a few minutes of the Masters golf in between bites. read more

I have been a couple of times now. I like the village of St. Jacobs and this restaurant is nice but not spectacular. I find the service a bit inconsistent as well as the food. The last time I was in I ordered the fish & chips. Aside from that I found it unmemorable. I certainly have no need to try the fish and chips again. On my most recent visit, I ordered the croque monsieur. For anyone that has had a CM they know that this is a special cheese sandwich and unique in the world of sandwiches. They also know that the outside of the cheese sandwich contains fried cheese and that it crunches. The menu here describes the CM as containing ham (this is normal) and some dijon mustard/mayo combination that the menu brags about (this is sort of unusual). No mention of emmenthal or gruyere cheese. No mention of bechamel sauce. These should have been my clues that things were off. But greed overrode reason and here I am. When I received the offering, I noted immediately that this was not a croque monsieur. In fact, it is so far removed from a CM, that the French should rise up and sue this place. My CM was white bread toasted in a waffle panini press with some unknown cheese, a few slices of ham and the dijon/mayo spread. There was no cheese on the outside and the sandwich itself was very small. This came with a side of potato wedges which are not worth commenting on. As I was out with friends, I did not bring this to the waitresses attention for several reasons, namely if the chef doesn't know what the hell a CM is, I did not wish to further delude myself into believing someone at Jacob's Grill knew what a CM was. In short, if you have $11.99 and are looking for a nice sandwich, I would suggest going to Vincenzo's in Waterloo on Wednesdays and having one of their home run grill cheese sandwiches for $4. You can spend the remaining $8 on a nice piece of cheese from France. Jacob's Grill, you should be ashamed. read more

I joined some friends at Jacob's Grill after a long day of meetings. It was a very good experience. I ordered the Apple Cider Meatloaf and a glass of Malbec. I recommend this dish, which was a meatloaf unlike any I've had. The service was good. The ambience was Mennonite small town meets upscale sports bar. Jacob's grill also offers nice selection of Canadian brews and wines. read more

2.5 stars - OK food, high prices, poor ambience and mediocre service. I came here for lunch because the restaurant at the inn next door is permanently closed. I've never been inside this establishment because it always looked packed and noisy...I was right. It's extremely noisy with blasting music and large groups. Food: I had the Smokin' Burger and it was pretty good and I liked the curly fries that came with it. As for the rest of the menu, I find it really pricey for what it is. Some of the entrees have dinner-level pricing. Service: Our server talked to us 1) to take our drink order 2) to take our food order 3) to give us our bill. On top of that, she took our condiments without asking and gave them to another table near the end of our meal. What if I wanted more ketchup?? Interesting Note: This restaurant is connected to the lower-priced restaurant next door. I'll be eating there next time. The decor might not be as modern but I have a feeling that some dishes will be the exact same dish for less!! read more

I live locally and have visited St Jacob's Grill on countlless occasions. My visit this past Friday was an unprecedented disaster. This new group have scaled down the menu to a poor selection of badly prepared pup grub items. Gone are the fantastic mussels and wonderfully prepared cedar planked brie and crispy calamari. After 11/2 hr wait my group was presented with dry over cooked and in some cases burned burgers and microwaved French fries. We did complain and the manager wiped off our 10 person bill. The Fat Sparrow group claims to be local and yet on the face of things is going to single handedly kill a great local spot. It is only a matter of time until there is a Closed sign on the door. SHAME ON YOU. If you cannot provide fresh cooked food based an a very limited menu selection at least hire someone who knows how to use a microwave!! read more

We have come here before when we had a coupon, and did it again this time. we had the drunken mussels and the mac and cheese. mussels were very fishy smelling, and not very good, but too pricey. The mac and cheese was good but is overpriced for what you get. Sorry but paying steakhouse prices for average food is not something we will repeat at this place. The food needs to improve and prices need to go down. The Keg is in North Waterloo and would cost the same for better food. read more

live in Waterloo nearby and we were excited to have the Grill to pop into in it's early days. Over the last few times we've been disappointed. They aren't cheap but since we go regularly as a local we are able to judge consistancy. We're not getting that. We've stopped ordering the pizza since it was getting to be charred...dried out. The quality of greens sometimes isn't great. Not sure what the issue is. Do they have new kitchen staff ?? Perhaps the powers that be aren't monitoring things enough. Anyway, we are disappointed of late in the quality considering the pricing of items. Sorry. I hope they can step this up in future. read more

You would think that a small touristy town like Saint Jacobs. Where you have an abundance of local farmers, especially with the BIG menonite farmers market nearby and local aquaculture. You would get the best food southwestern ontario has to offer but NO! Ordered the proper fish and chips or should I call them IMPROPER fish and chips? Fish was drenched in oil, over cooked probably used the same fryer for the fries as well. It was disappointing to say the least, considering its almost $15.00 bucks for the dish alone. I should have just stayed at the farmers market and got some hotdogs, apple fritters & pop less than that amount. read more

Mussels tasted fishy and had zero saffron taste, pear flat bread was undercooked and soggy, ribs had what tasted like a Chinese sweet and sour sugar sauce on them. Disappointed. Service was great .... Best part of my meal was the specialty coffee. read more

We visit St Jacobs for outlet shopping and the Farmers market and shops once or twice a year. The first time we went to Jacob's Grill will be the last. Previously we ate at the adjacent Stone Crock bakery with great food. My son hated his $7.25 kids thin, rubbery pizza' although the added cookie from the bakery was ok. My wife had a Caesar salad that she could only choke down 1/2 off. She said it didn't taste like a Caesar and was much too sweet. I had a Tandoori chicken wrap that was tasteless and cold for $12.99. My side salad was barely acceptable. Service was slow and impersonal. Someone needs to train these people! It seemed busy with nice weather in March. They must have some good food....we just didn't find it. read more

I was disappointed at the overall experience. Four of the five guests ordered beer and our server messed up on one of them right off the hop. The for one of the meals my guest ask our server to specifically leave off the spicy chilli. Our server swore up and down the she should include it because it really was not at all spicy. Our course when it arrived my guest couldn't eat it. There was no attempt to correct the error or offer any corrective measures. The service is well below what one would expect for a $120.00 lunch bill. read more
