This was my second time going to Jacques and the last one was about fifteen years ago. What a difference a decade makes. in 1996 the Jacques crowd was almost all gay and lesbian. Somehow it's morphed into the place for bachelorette parties or where girls take each other for their birthday. I sat on the aisle, as I knew what this meant and my friend from out of town did not. A great time was had by all and the club came to a stop when the very large black dancer did a full split that we not only saw, but that reverberated throughout the club for about five seconds. Pretty good service from the bar too, we never had an empty beer for long and a great time was had by all. The "Ladies" really know how to work a crowd that is always good natured and cool, and diverse. I particularly love their alternative lyrics to popular songs, very clever and fun. The drag queens at this show are HOT. Let me just tell you. I was jealous of some of their curves, damn! We went here for my friend Rob's bachelor party and we thought we would be the only people there for such an event but actually it was ONLY bachelorette parties. At least he was the only guy getting married who was there? It was kind of weird to see so many girls in bachelorette party garb but I can't blame them for having the same idea as us. Katie Homophobia and Destiny were some of the best performers I have ever seen. Seems super popular for bachelorette and birthday parties. $10 cover for a show that is at least an hour. Reserve a table and order lots of cheap beer. Its sort of hidden in an alley so there is a speak easy sort of vibe. Definitely come here when in Boston. The staff members even made some drunk bachelorettes sit down when they were blocking our view after I kind of drunkenly started yelling at said bachelorettes. I've been here 3 times. Each time gets more amazing... #1: Summer 2010- Girlfriends visiting from out of town. Had a small group of us, had a table. Lost our MINDS at how amazing it was. Laughed and sang and danced for the entire show. #2- Winter 2010- Best friends birthday. Only 4 of us, table at the front of the stage (-whoa-). Got my lady up in the beginning to say it was her birthday, they treated amazing. And my amazing I mean raunchy, dirty and laughable. SO GOOD. #3- Spring 2011- My Bachelorette.. Oh yes, I was one of them. You might remember me: flashing lights on my "Bride to be" sash that was also pinned with lots of male genetalia with smiling faces. I was THAT girl. But if you're going to be THAT girl, this is the place to go. We didn't have a reservation but ended up grabbing a table thanks to a lovely waitress. 11 of us, and I had the time of my life. The ladies obviously could see my eagerness and tipsy qualities because I got more action that night than I think I did my entire engagement. Such a blast. Bring cash for the bar. So I've been in Boston for 10 years... and I've been out for about 9 of those. Who can believe I just went to Jacques for the first time?! It's an experience. My favorite part was the "waitress"... (s)he wore a lovely dress, and coordinating moustache.. and arm hair. (remember when the 'time to make the doughnuts' guy dressed in drag??) Instead, we did karaoke! It was tons of fun... no other drag queens other than Miss Mizz. She was HILARIOUS though... "Let me see this dick that be slaying you for the rest of your life..... OH! OK!!!" Only really sucky part... It closed down pretty early! I think either 11 or 12. GR! We wanted more karaoke time.. The place is kind of a craphole too, but I don't really mind that. read more

Wonderful experience, Wonderful people!!! Went here for my sister's bachelorette party (as so many people do), and we loved every second of it! Didn't get reservations for a show (had sold out and I called a month prior), but arrived at 6:15 for the 7:00 show just incase. $10 cover. Immediately met with smiles and directly shown to a room downstairs. While I was bummed because I thought we would miss out on some of the show, I dont feel we did at all. While I am not sure what happened upstairs- we in the basement had a fantastic bartender and server, and a GREAT show (and I have seen a couple). My sister had a blast and most other girls seemed to enjoy themselves also. Beer was $4-$5 each. Not too shabby!! Highly recommended (at least for a bachelorette party). We went Saturday in the late evening for a night cap. We paid our $15 cover charge, thinking there would be good entertainment and atmosphere. Sadly, the crowd was at least 90% young women, probably groups in bachelorette parties, and the first drag queen was so un-entertaining that we did not stay long. read more

This place was different. My friends and I went here on a Saturday night. First let me say this place is small. The show started at 10:15-10:30ish. We got there at 10. Shame on us we should have came earlier. However, when we get inside there is nowhere to sit. The place was packed with brides to be and birthday's celebrations. One of the guys who work there offered us some seats downstairs by the bar (FYI: there is an upstairs and a downstairs both having a show at the same time). When we get downstairs we ask the guy for a menu so that we can have food and drinks. To our luck they did not serve food. What a buzz kill. Now we are hungry and annoyed. The show then starts and was somewhat boring once it started. Not knowing what to expect we were open minded. It was an okay show but BRING YOUR SINGLES. The performers walk/dance around the audience to engage the crowd but also looking for your money. To say the lease, this place is okay but I guess you have to be super drunk or just in to that kind of stuff to have a blast. So go after you have already ate dinner because you will be disappointed if you go hungry and bring your single dollar bills so you can tip the performers. I will not be attending another drag show, but I can check that off my bucket list. read more

I called Jacques with plenty of time to spare to reserve a table for a Saturday night bachelorette party I was planning. They were all out of tables, but told us to show up at 9:15 for the 10:15 show. With crew in tow, we showed up at 9:15 on the dot and were greeted by the front door guy that told us we were too late and should have shown up by 8:00ish. Luckily, he was just giving us a hard time and the amazing waitress got us a primo table right in the action. The bride to be was showered with attention as was the rest of the table. The dancers are a blast and super enthusiastic. I just can't imagine coming for anything other than a birthday or bachelorette party as that is what it seems everyone goes for. I visited Jacques a couple weekends ago on a Saturday night for their drag show. Cover is $10 and gets you both upstairs and downstairs. (Downstairs sometimes they have bands). Word to the wise @ the bar - the liquor is way over priced... stick with beer. I asked for a Stoli Razz and Sprite (my staple bar drink of choice) and it came in a TINY little plastic cup about 1/3 the size you'd normally receive - AND COST THE SAME - $6 for that tiny thing! My friend got a miller light and that was only $3. Anyway, onto the show! I grew up in DC and have seen my fair share of drag shows. I have seen much more elaborate shows at larger clubs, but looking at the size of the venue and the stage thought this was good for what I was expecting. There was a host and three performers who each did two sets. Destiny was by far my favorite! Janet Jackson abs and a Beyonce ass with good legs to boot.... GO GIRL! :-) The performers walk around through the crowd and bring the audience into the show by shakin and wigglin their stuff in your face for tips. The host was hilarious and I love how she calls out the obviously straight guys who were dragged there by someone else. There were a few bachelorette parties and birthdays going on. One group took a party bus before they came to Jacques and were completely wasted... actually... it was to the point that at some points you were distracted by them and missed part of the show! (i.e. One girl was so drunk she crawled onto stage while the Drag performer was in the crowd... and she laid on her back on stage and "security" had to come over and make her get off stage and her friends had to help her! A couple other ppl in their group were being escorted to the bathroom by their friends and as they walked by you had a fear that they would puke on you...... that intoxicated/distracting... but i would expect nothing less from a bachelorette/birthday party that had been on a party bus before a destination like Jacques). In summary: if you're tired of going to the same 'ol bars/clubs weekend after weekend.... grab some of your friends and head to Jacques for an interesting show. Pregame before hand (but not quite so much as the party bus people), and then drink beer at the venue to top you off.... and most importantly..... TIP THE PERFORMERS and GET INTO THE SHOW..... that's half the fun!!! read more

OK - I have to admit I was one of those bacherlorette parties that people don't like. I'm sorry... I promise my group of friends (6 of us total) were NOT obnoxious. Some were... but not us! Fine, I did smack an ass, but I swear she weren't mad at me..... one said to me "girl, your friends are picking on you HARD" before I tapped her bum. She turned around first! She just wanted to make sure I had a fabulous time.... AND I DID! Now that I've let the cat out of the bag as to why I was at Jacques can I just say I am in love? Since I got engaged back in March of 2009 one thing I knew for certain is that I wanted to go to an all-out incredibly fun, outrageously awesome drag queen show for my bachelorette party. What is better than a side alley in a residential neighborhood for a crazy show?! Jacques is fan-freakin'-tastic. I had the best party I could have asked for. The girls were amazing, so talented and so FUN.... the bartenders and club staff was great and the section of the bar where the regulars hang out was pretty much forgotten about after the show starts. The setup of the place is great so the regulars can do their thing and the show can (and does) go on! They have a 8 and 10 show time on Saturday night... you can make reservations to get tables, If you don't get a reservation but get there early enough that you are in the front of the line you can put yourself on a list for a table. We lucked out and there were "no shows" so we got a table in the back. I loved it because you could see everything going on! Cover is $10 (theater district of Boston?! SO CHEAP!)... it is walking distance from the Boston Commons Garage ($11 flat rate on a Saturday night, underground parking open 24 hours!) and it is so fun. The drinks were small and expensive but if you're not a drinker no big deal. They weren't pushy with the booze at all. I'm already working on a group of girls to go back (I want to bring some people who didn't make it out for the bachelorette!) I can't wait, I will definitely be back as soon as I can! YES. Loves it. Located in a dark neighborhood-slash-alley, you'd miss it if you blinked an eye--thank god for the day-glo posters of hot girls who perform at Jacques and light up that tired little block. My first experience was a Monday night melee--didn't even care if I was hungover on Tuesday morning. So worth it. One of the entertainers did a baton routine to the songs of Simon & Garfunkel, MC Hammer, and whomever's rendition of "Justified and Ancient." Good lord. What I thought was solely drag performances turned out to me a variety of performances altogether - from girls lipsynching Gossip songs, to the baton twirler, to our funky male emcee, the Morrissey meets Lee Hazlewood meets Andy Warhol, Boston's own Vice Versatile. Loved the stocky-built cocktail waitress/guy wearing a blonde wig and 5 oclock shadow. The only thing that turned me off is that some performers choose to lip synch instead of actually singing. Maybe this is because the instrumentals for the tracks are hard to find (Amy Winehouse? Courtney Love)? Still, it'd be so much better if the performers could actually sing the songs. Oh well. When they dance on stage, chug your beer and spit it out on someone, it's worth it in the end. read more

The Show on Friday night was entertaining, the hostess with the mostess Kris Knievil is hilariously scandalous. They played all those wonderful penis songs that never really make it to mainstream but are great beats and mixes. The music the girls dance to are all pop, hip hop current club stuff. The Misleading ladies are a talented bunch; great costumes and famous people impersonations, all the right dance moves, gyrations, the splits... whoo boy. No real singing tho. the lip synch is pretty good. My girlfriends got me a "lap" dance by Mizery,which was her lap dancing on my backside... still don't' know how I feel about that. Violated or privileged... The bar... eh. My complaint isn't getting served in the Plastic Dixie cups its getting served in the REALLY small plastic dixie cups like they give you mouthwash at the dentist. The bartenders though were great people/ The other patrons; the regulars, locals, quite a few bears and a few other queens, very chill. The annoying part TONS of bacheloerette parties, which i don't understand... If i'm getting chained to one male organ for the rest of my life I'm getting my fill of other male organs, ones that aren't tucked back, before I go. When I went the bathrooms were pretty spotless. One of my "girl"friends said its cuz they like to have a clean place for coitus. But all in all its a good time. I recommend starting the party before you go. And if you want a seat by the stage call in advance and make a reservation. Its a pretty small joint. So either call early, or show up early so you can get 2nd to best seats at the end of the bar. read more

Who knew a spot like this exists in Boston? It is a fabulous night out. Only $10 to get in - but the drinks are tiny and $6-$8 each. It is also cash only and located in an obscure area - so go to the ATM first! Overall, I wasn't surprised the drinks were small and not cheap - how else are they going to make money?? The performance made it all worth it. Everyone was great - I would definitely go back for a special occasion (bday or bachelorette). I went here for a friend's birthday and LOOVED every minute of it. The place is completely unassuming as you approach it. The sign doesn't even say cabaret just Jacques. When you walk in, it looks more like a little dive bar, but as the time for the show approaches, the place becomes packed with wild girls celebrating birthdays and engagements. Jacques was such a blast! The experience was even better because my friends got molested. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. It's such a fun time for only $10, it's even a great idea to pregame here before going out to neighboring clubs if you go to the earlier show. The place definitely sets the mood to have some fun. Make sure you have some dollar bills to tip the ladies and yes, like other people said, it's a cash only place. Jacques is awesome! I went here with a friend and we had a great time! The place is really hidden--our cabbie didn't even have the faintest idea where it was. We went on a Saturday night, and the place was pretty full. The cover was $10 and worth every cent. Their are no frills with the drinks--they are served in small plastic cups and are pretty strong. The drag queens here are wild--they are great performers and dancers. The show is highly sexualized and not very politically correct, so be prepared for raunchy, inappropriate jokes, songs and behaviors. The drag queens use a lot of audience participation, especially if you happen to be part of a birthday or bachelorette party! If you are uncomfortable being the center of attention or don't want to be part of the show it is best to hide on the far side of the bar away from the stage--otherwise (even if you are sitting in the far back) the queens will find you! read more

Those drag queens are CRA-ZAY, but that's what makes Jaques awesome. What doesn't make jaques awesome and the reason why it's only getting three stars, is the cover price. When I went it was 10 bux (!?) and that was to see a friends band playing in the basement, not the drag show. I wish there was a better way to sort that out, like a second entrance or something. But it was cool seeing the drag queens dance between bands. The drinks were small, they're like thimbles but they're strong so be careful! I've been here twice, and both times I had a damn good time! Tonight I decided to stop by with a friend to celebrate pride week. I was so excited about it, because I love drag, and I was not disappointed. All of the girls were top shelf! They brought wit, charisma, beauty, and talent. What they do is an art-form, so I give them tons of credit. My favorite is Destiny. She is BEAUTIFUL, energetic, and outside of the show, she's a sweetheart! I enjoyed all of the girls. I didn't catch the names of all of the performers (though their performances were not forgettable), but there was one that was super-flexible and did all kinds of splits and flips. The hostess was HI-LARIOUS! She was good with the crowd, could lip-sync her ass off and was creative with her performances. All of the girls tonight were absolutely amazing! Getting into the club, there was a $10 cove (not bad!). Once inside, make sure you have a stack of singles, because it's customary to tip (for those who've never been). As for atmosphere and customer service, the staff was very friendly, and the drinks weren't over-the-top expensive. The venue is small, but any bigger and it would lose its charm. The ladies work the room, so if everyone was all spread out among a huge room, they would not get to interact with everyone the way that they do. The crowd was pretty cool. I was surrounded mainly by bachelorettes and their rowdy girlfriends, but everyone was there to have a good time, and their antics only added to the experience. I went to Jacques Cabaret for a bachelorette party and thought it was very entertaining. The ladies were hilarious and energetic. I love it when they interact with the audience members during their comedy routines. Humor can be dirty and let's say... insulting hehe. Just a warning if that's not your thing. The girls also really know how to bring it when it comes to dancing. Catchy songs from Beyonce, Britney Spears, 90's artists are played so it's fun to sing along if you are the type to do that hehe. If you are a dude, the ladies will LOVE you so be ready for the attention! Well, there were a few guys in the audience who accompanied their girlfriends but I think they picked the smallest guy and most handsome guy to pick on hehe. Although, the crowd was majority femaie... full of bachelorette groups and a few birthday groups. It's cash only! Bring $10 for admission at the door and $1 bills to tip the ladies when they perform and shimmy their way through the audience. Our show had 3 ladies who performed 3x each. I could punch myself in the face for not going here until the week before I left Boston. Jacques is the most fun place ever. Sure, there are tons of tranny-chasers and a few bois-for-hire....but that is not a deterrent for me. It is the type of place where one can truly be free. Not everybody can pull off drag, but to see the grandpas wearing mom blouses without having to be self conscious is truly beautiful. If you see a poorly dressed CD, compliment them! The weekends are overwhelmed with bridal showers, who for some reason think that I paid $10 cover fee to see them prance around on stage. I'll be making a special trip back just for Tuesday Karaoke, which has to be a blast. The midnight close really sucks though. I went here for my friend's birthday party and realized that A LOT of other people had the same idea. No, not for my friend's birthday, but there was one other birthday girl and three bride-to-be's in there. I dunno, I think if it were my birthday or my last hurrah before I get married, I'd rather do something else aside from hanging out with a ton of girls and men in drag, but that's just me. I mean seriously, it's probably 80% women, 15% drag queens, and 10% men. I'm no mathemagician, but the extra 5% is for the tucked up wieners in bathing suits. How the hell do they do that? I mean, there is no discernible trace of a wiener there whatsoever. The night we went was the beauty pageant night which apparently is "very serious" according to the person that my friend talked to on the phone when she made reservations. I'm not sure if it was that serious but they did keep making mention that you can tip the entertainers but NOT the beauty pageant contestants. That didn't stop other birthday girl from stuffing money in their bras, sticking her head under their skirts and squeezing their "breasts" for an uncomfortable amount of time. It's just like when you hear about strip clubs where men strip, the women are completely nuts! They're blatantly grabbing the men in any spot that's grabbable on their body and screaming at their girlfriends and throwing appletinis back with reckless abandon. Then you go to a strip club where women strip and it's serious business and sort of shady and no one's smiling and most people are 10 drinks in and when you walk in everybody thinks you're part of the entertainment even with your stupid jeans and t-shirt because you're one of the few girls there but you're just there with some of your guy friends to celebrate a birthday and could you please stop trying to offer me a job? -beat- Anyway, the pageant was interspersed with a few lackluster, half-hearted lip-syncing routines, but it was still wildly entertaining. I find the most entertaining way to enjoy this place is to come with your male friends because nine times out of ten, the drag queens WILL approach the men in your group and rest their "breasts" on their head while forcing them to fondle their tits. We got a few choice photos of said male friend, caught mid-breast grab just waiting to be uploaded and tagged on Facebook so he can lose his job. Dare to dream! And I gotta say, for a place that's mostly women [not just "women"] the bathrooms are seriously creepy. It was like that part in "Jacob's Ladder" when Tim Robbins was wheeled around on a gurney in the mental hospital and the lights were flickering and he saw that stacked black guy [was he only a torso?] quickly vibrating and shaking. I fucking hate that part. I guess it's like "Jacob's Ladder" if "Jacob's Ladder" had no toilet paper and you had to drip dry and had tons of anti-AIDS posters all over the place. FYI, word on the street is that the men's bathroom has movie posters. WTF? Also, if you're with a lady with some choice cleavage, there's ceiling mirrors where you can cop a quick look and everyone will just think you're stretching. But probably my favorite part of the night was when my friend and I went outside to smoke and this transvestite came up to us and asked for a cigarette. T: They won't let me into this place. M: Um...why? T: [talking to my friend about me] Oh this girl. She's so precious. [talking to me again] I'm a lady of the night. M: Um...I'm a lady and I'm out at night. T: I'm a P-R-O-S-T-I-T-U-T-E. Combine the above with a basement d-level caberet performance and weak/expensive drinks =you should skip this show. It's a pretty sad scene all around. I'm from NY (outside of NYC) and have heard about Jacques from my Bostonian friends. It seems this place is a rite of passage for bachelorette and birthday parties. We left our hotel with enough time to walk to Jacques. We got lost thanks to Google maps and arrived at 9:55 (10 minutes after the 9:45 check in). We had a reservation for 3 people. This reservation was made weeks (months?) in advance. When we arrived the doorman rudely chastised us for being late. We apologized politely and were told to wait up against the wall so they could "check to see if our reservation was given away." The "bouncer" was equally rude and chastised (again) for being late. She told us "maybe we'd get lucky and still have a table." Of course, our reservation had been voided because we were late. The manager (a short, portly woman with a lazy eye) was so nasty you would think we caused her personal distress. She told us we could go "there's the door" or we could sit where she placed us. It was clear this woman has not much going in her life but for the small amount of power in giving people's reservations away. Some of you may be thinking, "you were late too bad so sad." But, I think it's important to note that not once in the three phone calls to Jacques to set this up/confirm was it mentioned that our reservation could be given away if we were late. I think it's a gimmick just like the $10 cover. The show I saw isn't worth that at all. Anyway, we were led to the basement and seated in the back. It was "the best they could do" after all, we were late. The basement was dark, packed and we could hardly see. Truth be told, I am always impressed with the makeup of drag queens. These basement drag queens must be new at it because their makeup lacked the believability of other drag queens (including from what I've seen online, the ones upstairs). Most of the singers lip-synced to popular songs. They didn't do this well. They danced around the room for tips which felt sad. There was obvious contempt for the bachelorette parties and birthday girls. Maybe that is supposed to be part of the charm? I must say, the bachelorettes and birthday girls were pretty obnoxious, so half of me doesn't blame them. All and all this place is a joke. My friends and I made our own fun; but if it were up to me, we would've walked out. I think it's disgusting for a business to treat customers the way we were treated. They clearly don't care and won't until it hurts their bottom line. The take away: avoid this place. If you can't avoid it, heed the above tale of woe. read more

WOW This place was great!! We brought our office staff for our holiday party and boy was that a good choice. We had so much fun!!! I can not believe that I have lived in the Boston area and never heard of this place. Really really funny!! read more

I LOVE Jacque's. My best gay knows every performer at Perestroika, which is the first Monday of every month, so we always go. $3 giant Brubaker's are the way to go, although I tend to go for a whiskey sour once in a while [ 98% whiskey, 2% sour mix, on the average. ] Katya is outstanding, beware the annoying bachelorette parties, the service is really good, what more can I say? If you're looking to see a good drag show in a casual environment, go to Jacque's. There's always a very diverse crowd, which I really appreciate. Oh, and make sure to bring lots of $1 bills.
