You know a bakery has been around for a very long time when you see a sticker that announces "MAC accepted for purchases". MAC is a uniquely Philadelphia phenomenon from the earliest days of ATMs. My aunts still say today that they're going to "hit the MAC" instead of "get money from the ATM. Despite spending a decent amount of my life living in the Philly Burbs, I hadn't heard of Jacquette's until a friend mentioned them to me. I was talking about getting some really good hometown donuts, not the kind from a national chain, the kind that are yeasty and sweet and the place smells like heaven. Off I head on a steamy hot Sunday morning. It's a good sign when there's a line, folks. I managed to time my visit well as there were only 3 people ahead of me, by the time I left there were 8 people in line waiting. Despite the line I didn't wait long before a cheery young man, eyes smiling behind his mask, helped me with my selection. Six donuts (one didn't last long enough for the photo to be taken. I am human after all). I wasn't planning on the sticky buns but they looked so darn good I got three of them too. They were all quite good. The donuts had that yeasty sweetness I adore, and those sticky buns were loaded with cinnamon and gooey walnuts. Solid Philly donuts. I'll totally be back. read more

I went to Jacquette's to get donuts for my grandson's birthday. His favorites are chocolate with jimmies. I had gone first to our local bakery, but they didn't have his favorite, so I drove farther out to Jacquette's. There were at least a dozen people waiting outside in line when I got there at 8:15 this morning. It was Dec. 23, which has to be one of their busiest days of the year with people picking up Christmas orders. Sadly, when I finally got inside, their chocolate donuts also didn't have jimmies on top. I asked the young woman who waited on me whether there was any way they could add some to one of the donuts. Without even a hesitation, she took the box into the back and came back with all four covered in red and green jimmies! Awesome customer service! It's no wonder Jaquette's is so popular. 7/2/20 My friend goes to Jacquette's bakery for special occasion cakes for her family & friends. That's me she's gifted me two Birthday cakes in the past. Both times she opted to get me chocolate cake with chocolate icing. Very Delicious! I would love to try vanilla cake sometime and I hope to try their other offerings. Seeing as I'm not very close- it's probably not going to happen. My most recent cake was moist and delicious. The frosting was decadent and delicious. I love the sweet buttercream icings the best and this cake did not disappoint. There's nothing like a real bakery cake and since I went to a bakery yelp event a couple years back, at Aux Petit Delices, I have a new found appreciation for real bakeries and the art of it all. read more

Came by for a birthday cake and got a layered chocolate and vanilla cake. It's a solid cake. One thing that is unique is the chocolate pudding that combines the layers. It's not my cup of tea, but may be for others. The layers were good. Frosting isn't too sweet, which is what I appreciate, but there were lots of it left over from our slices of cake. read more

One of only 4 remaining fabulous Delaware County bakeries. The others would be Kyj's in Brookhaven and Phatso's in downtown Chester and Testa's in Havertown. The 3 others are fabulous but Jaquettes has a slight edge due to the availability of parking. And that's a seriously good thing to have during holidays. I've been a customer and fan since the late 70s. They have the creamiest donuts, the best sticky buns. Their cakes are to die for. Cookies are buttery and sweet. Do yourself a favor and stop in soon. I ordered a 3 layer, 10" cake for my son's "where the wild things are" themed 1st birthday party and not only were they able to accommodate my request a few days before the event but they absolutely blew me away with the beautiful cake and design!! The food was less-than mediocre tasting, although the selection of treats was pretty solid and the presentation and actual look was a positive. The food tasted like something your 3rd favorite aunt created, but it looks great - points for that. The more egregious issue is the service... wow it stunk. This was not a pleasurable experience. The person who seemed to be in charge was very reluctant to help, she gave off a very "ugh, why are YOU here?!?" vibe, which is always a delight to deal with. I made a special trip due to the positive reviews here, (must have been friends and family) otherwise I would not have stuck around. That was a mistake. When she did eventually pull herself from "waiting for us to leave", she was impolite, unwelcoming, and surly - probably the most positive words I can use to round out the demeanor. I get it, it is clearly a townie shop made for her pals, but ideally one would feign "normal human interaction". There was a younger woman who actually got the food - she was friendly, polite, and professional. She needs a raise and promotion for being the one person with some customer service skills and for having to deal with previously mentioned person all day. It must feel like 5 Mondays a week... It is the perfect shop to visit if you are the kind of person who refuses to stop speaking on a cell phone to make eye contact with the cashier. If being sold "meh" pastry from your least favorite prison guard is on your bucket list, this is the spot. I can't recommend the place to anyone who is not looking for an experience akin to slamming your sensitive bits into a rusted bear trap. I'll visit again in a few years when it is a craft store. The vanilla cake was AWESOME! I loved it! Got a small 6" for about $10. The chocolate frosting was very good too. Everything about the cake tasted fresh and homemade. They normally use pudding in the center between layers, which others love, but that one little part was just not for me. Next time I would call ahead and ask them to put frosting in the center instead to make it perfect (for me). The cake is absolutely delicious, though! I have been dreaming about more! The donuts had a crispy finish to them, which I wasn't expecting. They taste very homemade, which is awesome. I prefer soft donuts, but my husband really liked the crunchy texture as something different. They had some cool flavors, like pumpkin w/ cream cheese frosting. Awesome for the fall, but tastes pretty good any time. Have only made one trip so far, but plan to go back soon! Will update when we explore more of what they have to offer! Disappointed. My father-in-law requested Italian rum cake for Father's Day, today. Our usual place for Italian rum closed. My FIL suggested Jacquette's. $30 for an 8" round. I liked the toasted almonds on the outside instead of peanuts, however, there was ZERO rum. The cake was good for a cake but $30 and no rum was disappointing. read more

Absolutely the best local bakery and it's not even close. Luckily I live close by but I would drive way out of my way to go here. I love danish and once you have these danish you'll never get store bought ones again. The donuts are incredible, they're known for their cream and jelly donuts but the other ones are really special like the coffee rolls and apple fritters, great sticky buns, etc. all of the breakfast pastries are amazing. I'm usually not a huge fan of cheese danish but the ones here are awesome. They have good fruit flavor variety too like apricot and peach. I've never had an actual cake but I've tried all kinds of dessert pastries like eclairs, brownies, etc and they're the best around. You will get addicted to this place. There's a reason there's a line out the door but don't let that dissuade you, the line moves fast and they're constantly bringing out fresh stuff from the back kitchen. read more

The WORST experience EVER!!! Went to pick up a custom ordered cake for a Bridal Shower and was appalled when they showed me the cake. First it was not what I ordered, second the writing on the cake looked like a toddler wrote it. Then to add insult to injury the cake had what look like dirt or smudge marks in the center of the cake. The staff was BEYOND rude and unprofessional when questioned about the cake. Said it could be fixed BUT it would cost an additional $200.00, for a MISTAKE THEY MADE. I was embarrassed to even put the cake on the table, but had no choice but to take the cake and try to do damage control and fix it myself to make it look even a little bit presentable. The staff said that I should be more understanding and do better at supporting small business. I would have no problem doing it IF THEY stood behind their work and gave me the cake I ordered and paid for. They give small business a bad name and then try to hide behind it. They bring out the worst in people. With bad business and bad management. DO NOT EVER ORDER A CUSTOM CAKE FROM HERE. I can almost guarantee you will not get what you asked or paid for. read more

This business has earned my trust. And that's very difficult to do. That, and their stuff is delicious. So delicious that even my Black Lab was impressed... but more on that later. We were all taking part in doing our part for planning the High School graduation celebration for my partner's daughter, a major event which turned to be sort of a secular Bat Mitzvah in size and scope, with a fire hall rented out, massive food selections, etc. etc. Our part was to order a suitable full-sheet cake, the selection made even more difficult as it needed to be as lactose free as possible, given that several of the guests, including myself, are lactose intolerant in several degrees of severity. After almost a dozen inquiries, we came up to Jacquettes and they said they would be willing to give it a try, but they recommended we try one of their selections first to see if it could suffice for the lactose-free crowd. I came up to the store the next day and bought a vanilla on vanilla cake and brought it home. Besides delicious, it more than settled me well in the lactose-free category. My partner, who is afflicted by a sweet tooth, had two and a half servings. I had one slice and still, two thirds of the cake were left for the next day. The moist, aromatic and delicious vanilla cake was placed on the counter and we were all looking forward to devouring the rest of it the next day... Well, here comes the Lab part... I went to order the cake the next day after the gym, and my other half came home early to do some college planning for his daughter. Well, while I was at Jacquettes, he called me up and asked me if I had eaten the rest of the cake. Of course not, I told him... then he told me that there was a happy Black Lab with a VERY guilty look on his face lying on his living room doggy bed, tail happily slamming on the floor, but not even a trace of the cake. Not even crumbs, icing, or any food spots on the floor. Only a clean, almost washed-up styrofoam layer next to the cake box. Thank God it wasn't chocolate... My interaction with the wonderful staff at Jacquette's was superb. Not only did they suggest the proper composition for a minimal lactose cake, but also they were pros at the decorating. A full-sheet vanilla on vanilla with pudding inside cake with a picture of two girls, decorations on their high school colors, pink flowers, little graduation hats and scrolls, you name it. It was almost too beautiful to eat. And the guests were absolutely delighted by the flavors. And yes, it was on time to the second. This was one of the nicest business interactions in a long time. read more
