I had a friend who just got engaged and I realized that I need to write a review for Jade to keep other newly engaged ladies from going anywhere else to get their ring. Jade made me the ring that I always imagined I would wear- elegant, old-fashioned and simple but really remarkably beautiful. I have a ring that is strong and flat enough that I don't have to take it off to swing dance or practice kung fu but is pretty enough that strangers will ask me about it. It's gorgeous, not garish. Just what I wanted. Jade sat us down in a quiet shop with a sketchpad and listened to us talk and sketch until we had what was just right for us. It was much less expensive than we expected but is so unique- there's no comparison because there are no other rings like it. Her work is about quality, not quantity. Jade is the best. I first came across Jade and her beautiful jewelry about 10 or 12 years ago when she would set-up a booth at one of the holiday craft fairs in Harvard Square. I said to myself then that if I ever got married I couldn't imagine having anyone but Jade make my ring. I was so excited when she set-up shop in Somerville a few years later, right around the corner from my house! Once my now-wife Maura and I decided to get married the easiest part of the wedding planning process was choosing Jade to make our rings! Jade is an amazing artist who has a knack for listening to you and designing a ring that fits you perfectly. She even took on the role of ring therapist when it was warranted. Maura and I both wanted to wear engagement rings. When I couldn't decide if I wanted a traditional looking diamond engagement ring, Jade sent me home with a cubic zirconium ring and a three-part assignment 1) Can Courtney handle wearing a diamond ring? 2) Does Courtney want to handle wearing a diamond ring, and 3) Wear the ring and see if Courtney can handle it. In the end I decided to go with small diamonds inlaid throughout a small band and Maura went with the more traditional diamond ring. I look down at my wedding and engagement rings all the time so excited to have these beautiful pieces of art representing my commitment to and love for Maura. I had the pleasure of getting an engagement ring 2 wedding rings from Jade and it was a truly awesome experience. Jade is a super friendly lady who will gladly take the time to work with you and to make sure you know all you would like to know about what you are buying. Seeing as I did not know about diamonds before buying the ring, this was very helpful. Her custom designs are also breathtaking. Jade was able to work with a pinterest board of what my future wife liked and some ranting descriptions of mine and she created the most beautiful piece of art that I could have imagined. I now can't imagine why someone would buy jewelry "off the rack" when they could work with a wonderful person like Jade to get something truly unique for about the same price. Not to mention there is nothing wrong with supporting a local business! The other thing that I was very impressed by was the conversation we had about my budget, she actually ended up convincing me that I only had to spend about half of it to get the perfect ring, and she was right. Jade does more than wedding rings and engagement rings also, I also worked with her to create a custom necklace that was also both extremely beautiful and surprisingly affordable. the one other piece of advice I can give, and something that is echoed in her other reviews, is to make sure your deadline is flexible or you plan ahead and give her plenty of time. As with any unique and creative work, it will get done when it gets done and you can't enforce exact dates. I worked with Jade to create a custom engagement ring and I was tremendously impressed by the process and the result. Jade worked with me when I had little idea what I wanted or even what to look for. She was patient as we circled around a design and gave just the right amount of guidance and opinion. Her assistant Miranda was also incredibly kind and helpful. In the end, I got a fantastic ring for less than I was expecting. Although I haven't yet proposed, I imagine I'll be back for wedding bands when the time comes. If you want to work with some great people to create something truly unique, I can't recommend Jade highly enough. 2.5 stars. Jade made my engagement ring and its beautiful. I adore it, she does great work, so the problem is not at all with craftsmanship. Sadly, it was the customer service. Granted, there were circumstances on her side and our side that made things more complicated and I understand that life happens. What I ask, though, is for communication. A quick, simple phone call or e-mail to keep us up-to-date on the situation would have made a world of difference. Instead, we, my fiance in particular, were left frustrated and in the dark. It took months longer than it was supposed to and we had to get in touch with her about the ring instead of the other way around. Another couple we know had similar problems with her awhile ago, which I wish we had known. Five stars and more for the ring itself. Zero stars for customer service. read more

I visited Jade's shop to look into having her design a custom wedding band for me. She was very polite and sweet in person, and her jewelry is very lovely. However, she did not respond to my subsequent calls/emails for almost a month. By then I had moved on to another local jeweler (Emily Scott at E. Scott Originals down the street - she is awesome!) and given up hope r.e. working with Jade. Upon looking her up on Yelp, I found that her lack of communication is a common problem. We can't recommend Jade highly enough, and we are one of the couples that had customer service issues with her last fall during that time of extenuating circumstances on her part. Yes, there were many complications and frustrations, both in terms of getting a hold of her and in terms of feeling reassured that we would get our jewelry on time. And yet, we would work with her again without reservation because: (a) in the end, she came through 100%; and (b) her jewelry is exquisite. We got three custom pieces in all (one engagement ring; two wedding bands) and each piece exceeded our expectations. Her style is intricate and detailed, without the least bit fussy. The process of designing the pieces was a delight and completely anxiety-and-pressure free (unlike other jewelry stores around here. We comparison shopped at other recommended jewelers in the Boston area and Jade was bar none the most genuine, down to earth, and affordable -- none of the pretension, and none of the price-inflating just because you say the word "custom." She was a joy to work with and we absolutely love our rings. read more
