I have only good things to say about Rebekah Brooks. We went on a whim, but from the minute we walked into the store both my fiancé and I knew this was our place. It has none of the pretentiousness of the Newbury spots we visited, and the Harvard Square store is cozy and intimate. But the best part is the superb staff--in particular Emily, who helped us design a custom engagement ring that exceeded my expectations. Emily was able to translate my rambling vision into something tangible. She is truly adept at balancing when to offer helpful context and guidance, when to share her opinion, and when to let you come to your own decision. All this allowed me to sort through my thoughts and wants, while ensuring my decisions were well vetted! She is endlessly patient (we went multiple times and asked a LOT of questions), and best of all, she listens to what you say and helps you understand what it really is you're looking for. She was also honest about what tradeoffs matter and when you can cut corners. The other notable thing about Rebekah Brooks--besides being a female-owned local business--is the aesthetic and style of the jewelry itself. If you are looking for something dainty and delicate with hints of vintage quality in a modern application, this is your place. (They can do less dainty too, but I found it hard to find other jewelers who achieved this quality.) And if you're on the fence, go in to look firsthand at the jewelry; it was a much different experience seeing it in person versus online, especially as their metals have a really beautiful and unique tone. It's no surprise that we also got our wedding bands from Rebekah Brooks, and we received the same great customer service. It was so special to have the Rebekah Brooks team on our side throughout this whole journey, and we feel so fortunate to have a place we were able to form a relationship with. I bought an engagement ring at RB in Northampton. They promised one free re-sizing of the ring. When the time came to deliver on that promise, they wouldn't. This is a business without integrity. I usually don't leave reviews, but I felt this was worth sharing. While I take some responsibility for not getting additional quotes, I trusted this local shop to be reasonably priced -- and later learned I was drastically overcharged. The soldering repair for my necklace cost $250, which I've since discovered was far above market rate. When the same issue happened again (in a new area of the chain), I had it fixed in Boston for $20, including polishing -- all done in about 30 minutes. I'd strongly recommend getting multiple quotes before agreeing to any repair here. I was really disappointed by the pricing and wouldn't recommend this shop based on my experience. read more

A little over a year ago my partner and I picked out an engagement ring and placed it on hold for 2 days. They required us to put down over $1k to hold the ring. After 2 days my partner got cold feet and I called to explain. They would not return our deposit and kept our money claiming that that was the cost for them to "pull the ring from the floor for 2 days". This feels extremely predatory. We have since worked closely with other jewelers to design beautiful rings for each other elsewhere with really positive experiences. As an aside, after looking elsewhere we also realized how overpriced that original ring was. The other jewelers we worked with were horrified we had been treated this way. It really felt slimy. I do not recommend this place. Their business practices are shameful and their jewelry is overpriced. read more

We bought my engagement ring at RB. It was a small bezel set diamond. I had the ring for a few years and I did not wear it everyday. One day while we were out and about I noticed that the diamond had fallen out and was lost. We took the ring back to the store and I was told that it was my fault because ring settings need to be checked every 6 months (I have never heard this before in my life and all of my other jewelry, which is way less expensive has not fallen apart)! We decided to have the ring repaired and replaced the diamond with a sapphire. We were charged $250 for the stone and repair. When I got the ring back, it was clear that they had not rebuilt the ring and the repair was awful. They used a smaller stone than the original one and wrapped the bezel around it, changing the proportion of the ring and squeezing the band where it meets the setting. I eventually took the ring to a third party jeweler to have it cleaned up. It took about 10 minutes and I was not charged. They were horrified that I had been charged so much for the repair and said that the new stone was probably $20. They also said that a good bezel set does not need to be checked! Needless to say I am nothing but dissappointed in the quality of RB's work and I have not shopped there since. I love her design's, but I would not buy anything with stones in it from her--they are simply not built to last! read more

We ordered a ring that was supposed to be ready within 3-5 weeks. At the 5-week mark, I called the store, and they confirmed it would be ready for pickup on Valentine's Day--just three days later. However, as I was on my way to pick it up yesterday, my wife called the store to confirm, and they told her the ring was still not ready. I called again for an update, and now they're saying it might be ready by the end of next week, making it a 7-week wait--though even that isn't guaranteed. When I asked why this was happening, they gave nothing but excuses and didn't offer any explanation. To top it off, they haven't even apologized for the significant delay. Used to really like this place, however they do not stand behind the quality of their products as they claim. First, we didn't have the diamond ring for a v long time before a small side diamond fell out and was lost. They charged us $275 for the missing diamond then asked for an additional $125 midway fixing. (labor fee we were told: not sure why this came a few days after the quoted $) When we said we'd rather fix it elsewhere, they said no refunds (meaning we can't get back the $275 we paid, only store credits). So we were forced to go through with the transaction, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. When asked if the new diamond would be guaranteed to stay on for however long, they said no guarantees whatsoever. We are all about supporting small business in our neighborhood but will not be shopping here again. read more

Came here twice for repairs. The first time I needed a bracelet repaired. The bracelet broke shortly after the repair, and I had to bring it back in a second time. The second repair was for a necklace, and I was charged over $100 for a simple clasp repair. The necklace broke AGAIN after the repair in the same place, but this time I took it to another jeweler and was charged $25. That was it for me. While I had to go out of my way to see another jeweler, the inconvenience was worth it not to be overcharged for a shoddy repair. read more

Their prices are higher than other places in cambridge/somerville. I got a ring with them and one small pave diamond immediately fell off (like within a few months). After a few years I brought it back in to get it replaced and it was very expensive. Also when I came to pick it up, they made me wait behind some ladies that were clearly there to browse. I get that there was just one lady behind the counter, which is stressful, but a 30 second pick up should take precedence over like 15 minutes of aimless browsing. Basic logic. Imagine if you had to wait behind people placing orders at a restaurant even if you got takeout and your food is already done and is just sitting there. read more

The young woman who helped me (Emily) was very kind, patient and knowledgeable and even followed up with me via e-mail. However, their price was not fair for what I was asking to be done. I don't doubt they would have done a fine job with my pearls, but I ultimately went with a different jeweler (Benchcraft Jewelers in Belmont, MA) who charged MUCH less than what Rebecca Brooks quoted and did a great job. Rebecca Brooks strikes me as the type of place that charges more just because they can- because they are in the heart of Harvard Square and many customers don't do as much research as I did to see where they can get the most for their dollar so to speak. Customized, authentic, special, symbolic, and meaningful are some of the words that describe both the experience and the result. I have only the most wonderful things to say about my experience. Sophia Graubard was very friendly and attentive, asking many important clarifying questions. I felt very much heard and listened to throughout the whole process. I had initially started with pictures of preferred features in 3 ring examples go off of. After sending the three pictures, the response was extremely prompt, with printouts of 2 possible recommended designs to look at. The next day, I went in to look at the designs chatting with Sophia and Emily Warren, to help decide which design would ultimately be best. I had went in with a limited timeline and minimal knowledge about jewelry. Within an hour of going in, I felt remarkably at peace on all fronts, quality-wise, care-wise, expertise-wise, and trust-wise. There was a very strong sense, they knew exactly what I was going for and what it would take. Emily was especially helpful in answering questions I had during the next phases and in ensuring the perfect match. I did not have a good experience. Engagement ring appraised for $2900 less than we paid for it (done through a third party appraiser). Staff was incredibly unprofessional and there is a no return policy even when RB is at fault. You have to beg to get them to agree to fix the item (which eventually they did). Three months after I got my ring the ring warped - and I asked them to fix it (went from a circle to oval shape). They told me is was $100 to do this. Took the ring to Longs and they fixed it for $25 and were extremely pleasant and professional. Lesson learned- bought my ring and bridesmaids jewelry elsewhere! read more

We started by looking at vintage and handmade options, which were all beautiful but not exactly what my partner was looking for. Not to fear: Zoe pulled out a giant book of ring settings. We quickly narrowed down our options based on photos I showed her and other requirements. Eventually we picked a ring and gem that seemed perfect (though I was still so nervous). Meanwhile, we talked about my proposal plans, she shared other stories and generally kept me smiling and calm through what could be a stressful process. Zoe and their staff worked with me over email and phone the rest of the time. The ring was ready when they said it would be. When I went to the store to pick it up, Zoe was so excited for me. My fiancé is floored by the ring. It has the most beautiful sapphire and is just stunning. The store itself is small and boutique-y, which I realize in retrospect is important: picking out engagement rings is highly stressful (for me and, I imagine, for many other guys); whatever the store can do to ease the buyer's mind, the better. Although my first visit to Rebekah Brooks was not particularly enchanting, I ultimately ended up ordering my wedding band from here, and I'm glad I did. I met with Lindsay on my second visit to the store, and she was very gracious and helpful facilitating my ring selection and ordering. I ended up getting a different ring than I had originally planned on, which turned out great- it compliments my engagement ring much better. I probably would have settled on something comparatively lackluster if not for Lindsay's helpful feedback. (I'm not much of a jewelery gal, but you kind of have to get a wedding band when the occasion calls for it.) She said the order would take 4-6 weeks to fulfill, but it only took two and a half weeks. I love being surprised like that. I just picked up the ring this afternoon, and I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Totally painless experience. All in all, it seems like there are a lot of great, (mostly) affordable, timeless ring styles available, even though the inventory is relatively small. So imagine the disappointment when you have to send your custom ring back to the jeweler 3 different times within 7 months due to quality issues. And each time you send it back there are new fractures in your already delicate stone. Plus, each time they shame and blame you for the mistakes. That describes my incredibly disappointing experience with Rebekah Brooks jewelry. Please think twice before falling for the quality talk; I wish my partner and I had. Even after 3 attempts at correcting the quality, it is still snagging on fabric and even caught while I was trying on wedding dresses. The ring I am supposed to wear for decades now has me anxious to change clothes. Long story short, my band wasn't ready when I had triple called to confirm it would be scheduled to pick up- and a friend had to wait 4 hours for it in Harvard square the day before my wedding. I almost didn't have it for my wedding day. Went in today, two years later, to give it another shot to look at other rings. The salesperson was helping someone else so I was just casually peaking in the case and didn't ask for any help at that point. Just browsing. She then became very flustered and told me she would be with me in a minute- insinuating I should back away from the case. I said ok, thinking that was kind of rude. She then came back and asked what I wanted to look at- I said the rings- and she asked if I had an appointment. I said no, and she again rudely said the weekends are too busy and I really need to make an appointment because it was crowded. The store was crowded, given it was a Saturday, and news flash- you are located in Harvard square! The Meca of tourists and window shoppers! All the people in there were browsing and clearly since I was the sixth customer in the store, I was called out. I felt so awkward at that point, I decided to leave. They have a beautiful selection of antiques, as well as custom pieces. I liked the design of their original jewelry, but they are slightly pricey (they mainly use "gold filled", not gold, and sometimes they even confuse it. Better to carefully ask at store) I had a bad experience when I ask if I could alternate my pendant to give it to someone via email. I first asked about the price and if they happen to trade-in the parts that I wanted to replace. That's a HUGE mistake, as they got very defensive about this inquiry and persistently repeated "unfortunately we do not accept "trade-in"", and their 14days return policy again and again although I replied ok and simply asked the price for the repair in my first reply. I do not understand why my simple repair inquiry took one month and I had to receive multiple impolite replies repeatedly mentioning my first inquiry as if I was rejected by them due to my inadequate request. I took it as a sign not to proceed this, so I just simply not give up the plan to pass my favorite jewelry to my family member. read more

I stumbled across Rebekah Brooks' website while searching for a local shop to buy my girlfriend's engagement ring. I stopped in one day to ask some questions, as I had no idea what I was doing. My girlfriend wanted a heart-shaped diamond, and that was all I knew. Zoe was very helpful, and assured me that the budget I gave her was definitely enough to buy a quality ring, even with a special shaped stone (I was worried I wouldn't have enough). The very next day, they let me know that they found two heart-shaped stones they could use that would be within my budget. I loved that they didn't try to upsell me, or pressure me to spend more than I could afford. My now fiancé was completely in love with her ring, and we returned to Rebekah Brooks to get it sized (I had guessed too large). We were helped by Mercedes, who was so nice, knowledgable, helpful, and patient! While we were there, we looked at the other bands and rings they had on display, and I fell in love with a petite, patterned gold band. My fiancé ordered it on the spot (as we are two brides, we each wanted an engagement ring). When my fiancé returned to pick up her correctly-sized ring, she met Rebekah Brooks, and told her the story of my proposal, and our wonderful experiences in her shop. Every piece of jewelry is handmade, and the diamonds are ethically sourced. We truly couldn't be happier with our interactions with everyone at Rebekah Brooks, as well as the beautiful, unique rings we each have. I had inherited an amazing old ring from my great-grandmother that I wanted to turn into an engagement ring, and my sister-in-law recommended Rebekah Brooks since she got her engagement ring there. It was a bit of process for me to decide what to do with the diamonds from my ring, and the first time I went in I think either Bailey or Mallory worked with me to come up with an idea from a ring, but didn't push me to make any decisions right away which I greatly appreciated. I came back on a day that Rebekah herself was in the store and was lucky enough to work with her to create the ring of my dreams. Instead of just flipping through a book and inserting X in this spot with Y setting, she worked with me to create a one of a kind ring that honors the vintage diamonds that I had. My ring is rose gold with a white gold setting, and it has beautiful hand engraving inspired by an Edwardian orange blossom motif. I could not love it more. Everyone in the store is so friendly, warm, and knowledgable about jewelry and jewelry history. When I came back to look at wedding bands, Bailey remembered me and my ring, which was so nice.
