However, the experience was ultimately overshadowed by how she handled a straightforward business question. When I politely asked to verify the ring sizing documentation from our consultation - a reasonable request given the additional cost for resizing on top of what we already paid for the ring itself - her response was shockingly emotional and defensive. She took my question as a personal attack on her integrity, accused me of showing "distrust" and "disrespect" and called my inquiry "an insult." She then abruptly ended our professional relationship. I had crafted my email multiple times to ensure it was polite and made clear we wanted to continue working with her regardless of the outcome. I even consulted with the mutual friends who referred us to make sure it was appropriate to ask. Everyone was surprised by how severely she overreacted to what was simply a request to review consultation notes for our records. While she did provide documentation showing the sizing was correct and offered a $200 refund (which I declined given the circumstances), her emotional response to a basic business question was completely disproportionate and unprofessional. She wrote that she could "separate the human from his/her words" and had "compassion for the human and understanding for the words - but her actual response showed neither compassion nor understanding. If you work with Cynthia, be aware that she may take any business question as a personal insult and react in an emotional manner. Cynthia is incredible - both her and Phuong (assistant) are the nicest people and I am so happy I found them! My fiancé and I went to Cynthia to help us redo my engagement ring. Originally a different jeweler designed my ring but there were a lot of inconsistencies, including a loose prong, and the setting itself looked very heavy and dated. We originally had the jewelry help us repair the ring, but unfortunately it wasn't much better. That's when we found Cynthia. I first met with her to help go over our options. She was so sweet and kind, and also educated us on the diamonds and how the setting should be. She gave us a few different options on how she can help, without pressuring or swaying us in any direction. After a lot of though, we decided that we wanted Cynthia to completely reset and design the setting using our original stones. As she does with everyone, she took a lot of time to examine my hand and then quickly drew a sketch of what she thought would be best. Some people make think it's odd you aren't able to get an exact quote, but she gives you an approximation which is pretty spot on. She also bases the price based on labor, time, and cost of the metal - versus some places that just come up with a "magical" set price no matter how much or little needs to be done (that was A LOT more that what Cynthia charged). She was also really mindful of the fact we already had paid a heavy sum for the original ring. It took what seemed like a very long 5 weeks for the ring to be completed, which was about double what she originally quoted, but unknown to me, my fiancé had asked Cynthia to add a diamond band to my ring as a surprise! I just picked up my ring yesterday and I am honestly floored and I can't stop staring at my hand - it's actually really distracting. It's also so comfortable and perfectly balanced so it doesn't spin around my finger. The ring came in a lush blue leather box, along with instructions on how to best care for your ring. I held my old setting and the new ring at the same time and can't believe the weight difference. Then she asked to see the existing pieces, and with a careful and respectful hand, she looked at the ring and the diamond. She explained the unique characteristics of the diamond, then told me about where the ring had been resized. AND THEN she showed me how to hold the magnifying loop and tweezers, and had me look. It might sound like a little thing, but she took the care to include me in this process and educate me. It was wonderful. Then we decided to create. She asked insightful questions about my expectations and ideas, then took my hand, and as only a true artist can do, she studied it and made notes on sizing and proportion needs. She was prompt at getting the stones from the supplier and even better she had such an incredible sense for beauty - she picked 3 gorgeous looking ideal cut diamonds with minimal inclusions and all GIA certified at very reasonable prices - we had a winner. We finalized on the design but we were concerned we wouldn't have the ring ready on time but Cynthia did it in less than 3 weeks, and did it beautifully. Cynthia worked extra hours to get the ring done and provided us frequent update and visuals throughout the whole process. The end product looks amazing. A cursory review of her website will show you that she is an absolute pro, an artist, and that she designs some of the most gorgeous lux jewelry you'll ever see - and very obviously designed to suit the different personality, style, and taste of each recipient. What the website won't show you is that she is a wonderful person who absolutely exudes energy and love into her craft. It was such a delightful experience to work with her to create exactly the right ring for my style, for my budget, and that would compliment my wedding band. What a treat! I want to comment on the 2018 review saying she was rude about someone's engagement ring being poorly made since that one review almost dissuaded me from setting up an appointment! Honestly, disregard that review. Cynthia also gave me honest feedback about my own heirloom ring: how it was made, how much longer it was likely to last (not long), how it had been resized (not well), options for what we could do if/when it breaks, how to design the engagement ring to extend the life of the heirloom band, etc etc. In no way was the feedback rude. Quite the opposite. It was honest, respectful of the emotional value of the heirloom band (regardless of how "valuable" or well made it was), and much appreciated as it provided me with reasonable expectations about my grandmother's ring and fantastic options to choose from going forward. What more can you ask for than honest feedback and problem solving? I think this might be my 3rd or 4th review in a decade. But after a few months of enjoying my ring I couldn't help but get online to underscore the other reviews singing Cynthia's praises. I was curious and was working with Cynthia on my band at the time, so I decided to ask her if she was re-creating my ring for our friend. She assured me she was not and that her ring was different. It's not. It is the exact same ring. This isn't a handbag or a ring purchased from Tiffany's that is mass produced. It's a custom engagement ring. From a business perspective, I am so confused. I suppose she saw a sale and went for it, so to an extent I get it. I knew even at the time that in the grand scheme of life this wouldn't matter but after a few days it still annoyed me so I reached out to Cynthia and explained how I felt. Her response was insane. She basically told me that I am a fortunate woman and my husband loves me so I should shut up. So condescending! Terrible customer service. My absolutely gorgeous engagement ring designed by Cynthia is Stunning Perfection. It is elegant first and foremost, but burns with a sparkling fire that is barely 'contained' by the gorgeous subtlety of intricate floral engravings decorating the ring itself and the basket of 'leaves' holding the stone in place. Its proportions are perfect, Cynthia took into consideration all the practical, architectural and engineering aspects of this masterpiece and gave expert advice on how it would suit the shape and fit of my finger. First and foremost, I want to echo all of the other reviews praising Cynthia for her expert, stunning, and personal designs. My fiance and I worked with Cynthia to design my engagement ring and it is simply beyond my wildest dreams! Being the cynic that I am, I used to think that all the other reviewers here on Yelp were enamored simply because it is THEIR ring. I was also skeptical because I had perused her website prior to making an appointment but hadn't seen anything similar to what I had envisioned for myself. It's been more than three months since starting to wear this ring on my left hand and the honeymoon period has worn off - and yet I STILL cannot get over how unique and just simply PERFECT this ring is for me! She took my "perfect" vision and made it BETTER. One star off for a few, minor things. I hate to even take off a star, but I strongly feel that this is why yelp exists - for sharing those nitty, gritty details! Firstly, it took a long time for the ring to be made. Perhaps we were ignorant as to how long custom jewelry takes, but for those who are ignorant like we were, it took a solid 4 months from conception to ring-in-hand. She told us it would take maybe a soft "2-ish" months, but it took 4. We actually ended up booking our wedding venue prior to having the ring, simply because we were crunched for time (I didn't mind at all! We are casual like that anyway.) Secondly, her assistant messed up a few things. She first quoted us an incorrect price, and then later actually emailed me and not my fiance (we specifically requested the opposite!) when the ring was ready for pick-up. This more or less ruined the one "surprise" aspect of our otherwise very-much-not-a-surprise engagement. I think that would've been a bigger deal to others - luckily we are who we are, and just laughed it off. Lastly, we ended up going over budget. Like someone else here, we had a *limited* budget. One of the reasons we went to so many other jewelers first is because it was obvious to me from looking at her site and social media that her average customer spends at least an order of magnitude greater than we could fathom for a ring. And yet, I actually was motivated to make an appt with her due to that one review stating that they had a limited budget but still came in on target. Now, we were realistic from the get-go and knew that we would not be getting that "champagne taste on a beer budget." I stated our budget from the start and she wrote it down, and was respectful and realistic. However, months later when it came time for her to actually make the ring, we went back and forth a bit via email over a few details. Although she did state it would be an added cost for these details she did not state what it would be. And yes it's true - we didn't really ask (oh, how easy it is to just say yes without asking the difficult follow-up question!) but all of the details we discussed via email were things that I remembered already discussing. Therefore, a part of me believed that these "added" details weren't actually new, and subsequently wouldn't actually increase the price all that much from our initial budget. Again, I recognize that we definitely should've asked, but a part of me also feels that maybe she could've been more transparent without us having to ask first. She had written down our budget and I guess I just trusted her a bit too much to honor that price throughout it all. All this being said, if we did it all over again I'm sure we would've ended up paying exactly what we paid, and as evidenced by my praise that kicks off this review, the ring is MORE than worth it. I only even bother to mention this because I feel it would've been nice for my fiance to not feel so much sticker shock when picking up the ring. Knowing the final price before walking in to pick up the ring would've been better. No one wants to feel cheap and skimpy, but everyone wants to feel informed, especially in regards to buying an engagement ring. Another thing- The person who gave her a 1-star review said she is "abrupt" and "rude." This is not the full picture. I think it is more accurate to say that she is honest. She is the sweetest human I've ever met, but will also not be afraid to tell you what she knows to be true- and if she said a ring was made poorly, I would side with her 10/10 times. I value this quality in Cynthia greatly. She is clearly an engineer and in comparing my ring to a friend's who bought theirs from a big box store, it is obvious (to us both) mine is much better constructed! Let me first start out by saying that I rarely take the time to review anything, be it good or bad. That said, my experience with Cynthia was so exceptional, that I felt compelled to write something. Purchasing an engagement ring can be an overwhelming and disconcerting process to say the least. Before sitting down with Cynthia, I felt "lost". After a handful of disappointing sessions with some of the more "well-known" jewelers, I was lucky enough to come across a few reviews for Cynthia. Upon reaching out to Cynthia, she promptly responded, and provided me with an overview of what the process would look like over the next several weeks if I chose to work with her. She also requested that I provide pictures of my girlfriend at our first session together. My initial meeting with Cynthia was warm and inviting. She made me feel at ease from the onset. We spent the majority of our time together, talking about my girlfriend, her likes, dislikes, and looking at pictures. It felt like I was catching up with an old friend. Cynthia took the time to really understand my girlfriend's style and taste. I had a general idea of the type of ring that I wanted, but certainly nothing definitive. Before I knew it, Cynthia was sketching the exact ring that she envisioned for my girlfriend based on the minimal information that I had provided her. When I saw her final drawing, I was blown away, and knew that I had come to the right place. Cynthia then proceeded to educate me in all things diamonds. I had a general knowledge of the 4 c's, but Cynthia's insight was phenomenal. We discussed everything from how soil compositions from different parts of the earth contribute to the sparkle of a diamond, to how the shape/size of a person's hands/fingers can influence the appearance of a diamond. It really was an eye opening experience, and I left that appointment feeling confident for the first time in this process. My next few sessions with Cynthia involved the actual diamond selection. I had provided Cynthia with my budget, as well as general preferences on cut/color/clarity. I assumed, like everywhere else that I had been, that Cynthia would bring in diamonds that were 10%-25% above my initial budget, but Cynthia did not. She took the time to search her distributors for diamonds that hit all of the specifications that I had requested. Cynthia is obviously very well-known and respected within the diamond industry, as her network of distributors is very impressive. She sources her diamonds from the same distributors as the high-end retailers on Newbury. That means that guys like me can get a "Cartier" or "Tiffany" quality diamond without having to pay additional for the name. Cynthia was patient with me during the diamond selection process, and took the time to teach me how to inspect a diamond, and the different characteristics that I should look for and pay attention to. She was also more than happy to provide additional diamonds upon my request. Overall, my experience with Cynthia was amazing! She made the whole process painless, educational, and exciting. Cynthia literally took me by the hand, and guided me step by step through this process. Her service was so personal, that if I hadn't seen other clients show up for appointments, I would have thought that I was her only one. My girlfriend (Now Fiancee!) absolutely loves the ring that Cynthia designed! As excited as I was for my proposal, I was just as excited to tell my Fiancee all about the process that I had gone through to get to that point. The best part about this whole experience, is that my soon to be wife will forever be wearing a ring that was uniquely designed for her. The ring is truly one of a kind, just like its designer.... She responded to emails really quickly and was never put off by emails asking questions. Even after I got the ring, I emailed her to ask questions about the fit and she was incredibly responsive and gracious. Walking into her studio you enter a completely different world: Cynthia is more than a jeweler--she's an artist, and she will make sure your ring expresses what you want but also complements your hand. The appointment begins with an analysis and a sketch of your hand. Cynthia recommended metals and designs, and then talked with us about our interests. My husband and I met while waiting in a line in NYC because I remarked that I didn't think paleontologists existed anymore: he's a paleontologist. We wanted to incorporate the idea of fossils and evolution into our bands, without being overly literal and hokey. Cynthia came up with a stunning, elegant designs that were understated. My favorite comment on my ring to date is, "It's at once so much more than a band, and yet not too much." We had a very limited budget, and Cynthia was honest, direct, and came in under budget. Best of all, she treated us like her most valued customers, though we know many people spend more than we did by orders of magnitude. She was responsive to our concerns and truly collaborative in her designs, and she answered emails within 24 hours maximum at all times. It was very important to us to begin our marriage with a celebration that was intentional and representative of our values. We loved supporting an artist and having something custom-made that wasn't cut off a massive tube of rings, and we got a product more beautiful than I could imagine. Every time I look at my hand, I am overjoyed by the powerful reminder of my partnership and I remember the beautiful experience we had choosing these markers together. Cynthia Britt designed my engagement ring and then later on our wedding bands. My style was contemporary and i felt Cynthia had some great sketches prepared for me to see what was going to be made. There was no pressure for me to invest in any type of stone or size as she educated me on the construction aspect and overall process. I absolutely recommend anyone who is looking for a custom ring to go to Cynthia!! My fiance surprised me one evening by bringing me to Cynthia to get a custom fitting. The entire experience was incredible! Cynthia was very sweet and made us feel welcomed the minute we walked through the door. She was extremely knowledgable, and most importantly trust worthy. Both my fiance and I really wanted to learn a little bit about the process before we committed to a designer, and right away she was able to walk us through the steps, share with us her designs and expertise, and was extremely patient with us! Her ability to be flexible and honest won us over, and she worked with us closely from that point on! Eventually we decided to take things for a spin and brought in three old rings to use to make a custom made engagement ring. Even with the change, Cynthia sustain her posture and was able to use what we had in creating something unique and beautiful. Although the pieces were difficult for her to work with, the outcome was absolutely amazing! Cynthia was able to take on everything I was looking for in a ring, and I was really glad I felt comfortable with her. My fiance and I ended up leaving the country for three months, but even during that time she was readily available to contact when we wanted updates on the ring, and sent us pictures of the progress. Once we got back, my fiance surprise me once more by re-proposing to me, but this time with the ring we had worked on together! Cynthia blew me away with her craftsmanship and attention to details. She was able to take any old ring and bring life back into it by still maintaining its true beauty! My fiance and I really enjoyed the entire experience!
