The treatment we received was extremely poor and disappointing. When my daughter and I walked in, there were two young women sitting at the reception desk. Neither of them even greeted us or said "hi." We stood there for about four minutes before one of them finally asked, "Do you have an appointment?" We said yes. She then told us, "Give me a moment. I'll see if the person who will be serving you is able to take you or not." She disappeared for a while and came back with another woman. After speaking with us, they told us that they could not provide us with any service because we were late and that we would have to make another appointment and come back on a different day. My daughter and I were honestly shocked. We couldn't understand why, when there were four employees sitting there with nothing apparent to do, not one of them was willing to take a moment to see what we wanted to do with our hair. What makes this even more confusing is that your website clearly says "Walk-ins Welcome," which gives customers the impression that they can walk in without an appointment and receive your services, depending on availability. So why were we treated this way? The way we were treated felt extremely unwelcoming and, frankly, discriminatory. The lack of greeting, the long wait before anyone even acknowledged us, and the refusal to provide any service despite the circumstances left us feeling very uncomfortable and unwelcome. This was a very disappointing experience, and I absolutely do not recommend this place. Honestly, this place doesn't deserve even one star because of the discriminatory way we were treated. I also forgot to mention that they charged us a $50 booking fee and then refused to refund our money, even though they did not provide us with any service. Honestly, this is one of the worst places I have ever dealt with. The way we were treated was extremely disrespectful and discriminatory, and then they kept our $50 booking fee on top of everything. I arrived about 10 minutes before my 12:00 appointment and checked in at the front. At the same time, another woman walked in asking about coloring her hair and was told to sit and wait to see if someone would be available (she was a walk in with no appointment). By 12:30 I was still waiting in the lobby and had not received any updates, so I asked the front desk what was going on. I then found out they had called the walk in consultation before me, even though I had an appointment and it was already during my scheduled time. That part was very frustrating and honestly set the tone for the visit. When asked why they saw her during my appointment even though I was already wand was told bc it was a "quick" talk. When she finished cutting my hair, she started styling it without even asking me? Adding more heat and damage to my hair. I'm new to Downey and was looking for a good hairstylist. I saw this salon charges around $100 for a haircut, so I expected excellent service. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite. The stylist seemed rushed and unhappy to be cutting my hair. She didn't cut it the way other stylists have in the past, but I trusted she would do a good job since the salon had good reviews. However, after I got home and straightened my hair, I realized how uneven and choppy it was. She didn't even touch the first layer of my hair, leaving me with split ends I specifically wanted to get rid of. When I asked for a refund so I could go to my trusted stylist of 5 years to fix it, the salon manager only offered to "fix" the cut herself. She was upset that I didn't want to let her try, but after the treatment I received, I didn't feel comfortable. Now, I have to pay extra to fix this bad haircut, and I can't even wear my hair down. read more

Since I'd never been there before, Desirae, co-owner, scheduled my appointment with "someone who could cut/layer/style long, thick hair." Two tips: 1) if they don't answer right away, try again a few minutes later especially if you're like me and don't like leaving messages. 2) your credit card number is collected at the time of scheduling an appointment to avoid no-shows! I asked for the earliest appointment possible which was 9:00 a.m. on Jan 8, 2020. The night before I got a text from Margie confirming it. Nice touch! Because my hair was/is so long and thick, my cut/style is a bit pricier than some clients at $65.00. Another tip: most stylists appreciate cash tip. For me it was worth it because the layers look natural and free-flowing. I don't know how she did it, but the thicker side of my head seems much more light-weight than it ever has. Just what I asked for! This salon has plenty of parking in a shared lot. It's clean. I was offered coffee or tea - the coffee is pretty good! "Unite" is their choice of hair products which I had never used prior to my appointment, but now I'm intrigued especially after the free sample of "7-seconds" leave-in conditioner they gave me. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new hair salon, and this one caught my eye because of all the glowing Yelp reviews and beautiful blonde balayage hair photos (my usual style). I texted their number with current photos of my hair as well as inspiration photos, and Desi was very prompt in getting back to me and scheduling my appointment with Dee. Once I sent the retainer payment, everything was all set! I arrived on Thursday 12/29 at 10am right when they opened, and Dee immediately greeted me and led me to her chair even though I think she was just getting in herself. I was really grateful for that, as I hate having to wait when I have an appointment. Dee was already prepared and aware of what I wanted done, but she asked me questions to make sure she got it right and listened attentively as I answered. She also gave me suggestions on what would look good on me but mostly made sure she understood what I wanted. She was super friendly and easy to talk to but also wasn't overly talkative which I appreciate. Any time she had to step away, she explained what she was going to go do and when she would be back. She also checked up on me frequently, asking if I needed to use the restroom, etc. While she was doing my hair, she would always ask if I wanted it like this or like that to make sure I'd be happy with the end result. She was also super gentle with her hands throughout the entire process and was mindful of accidentally hitting my ear, etc. She's so sweet! The balayage took about 4.5 hours total, which is quicker than what I've experienced previously so I was thrilled. But more importantly, my hair looks amazing! I've definitely found my new colorist.
