I've been here for a haircut and Zoe did a great job. I had long hair that needed trimming and she was able to cut it in layers just like I wanted and it looked really healthy in the end. I sent a text to the studio in the morning to see if they were available later in the day and they gave me a couple of times. Upon entering the waiting area I was given a black apron or haircut cape. I arrived about 10 minutes before my 12:00 appointment and checked in at the front. At the same time, another woman walked in asking about coloring her hair and was told to sit and wait to see if someone would be available (she was a walk in with no appointment). By 12:30 I was still waiting in the lobby and had not received any updates, so I asked the front desk what was going on. I then found out they had called the walk in consultation before me, even though I had an appointment and it was already during my scheduled time. That part was very frustrating and honestly set the tone for the visit. When asked why they saw her during my appointment even though I was already wand was told bc it was a "quick" talk. The stylist who cut my hair was very friendly and did a nice job, but the way the beginning of my appointment was handled and the lack of communication really affected my overall experience. read more

They didn't ask me if i wanted to wash my hair, they just did it anyway even though i had already washed my hair in the morning, also the water was super hot and felt so uncomfortable. When she finished cutting my hair, she started styling it without even asking me? Adding more heat and damage to my hair. Like i just asked for a haircut, don't get me wrong, it looked beautiful but i was on a budget and strictly asked for just a haircut. they do this to overcharge you. I'm new to Downey and was looking for a good hairstylist. I saw this salon charges around $100 for a haircut, so I expected excellent service. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite. The stylist seemed rushed and unhappy to be cutting my hair. She didn't cut it the way other stylists have in the past, but I trusted she would do a good job since the salon had good reviews. However, after I got home and straightened my hair, I realized how uneven and choppy it was. She didn't even touch the first layer of my hair, leaving me with split ends I specifically wanted to get rid of. When I asked for a refund so I could go to my trusted stylist of 5 years to fix it, the salon manager only offered to "fix" the cut herself. She was upset that I didn't want to let her try, but after the treatment I received, I didn't feel comfortable. Now, I have to pay extra to fix this bad haircut, and I can't even wear my hair down. read more

The salon is clean, the staff is nice, and the prices aren't terribly expensive, but honestly Misty is the reason I'll come back. Let's just say regardless of the salon policy of needing a credit card on file in order to secure an appointment... I would have never expected to get a text message days after I made the appointment from stylist Dee to tell me to send a zelle payment of $100 for a retainer policy that is required for appointment no later than by Monday or lose my appointment spot. I was told all this via text... I truly understand it's problematic for any stylist to have to deal with no shows and or cancellations. I am all for a secured appointment. It was the delivery of information via text and her time frame I never had to pay a retainer with my first visit. read more

2022 - Zoe / Zoey did my hair and it turned out PERFECT!! She was so sweet, adorable and really took her time. She asked questions along the way to see what I felt comfortable with when it came to my cut. I asked for layers and a V shape cut and she did exactly that. I cannot express how amazing my cut is right now. I have been trying to get this haircut and I kind of accepted that I would always get similar haircuts to what I asked, but never exactly what I wanted unless I paid top dollar. My long overdue winter locks needed TLC. The hubby reminded me, "You have to take care of yourself too." Margie at Jae Valentine Hair Studio helped me do just that! I phoned in a day ahead of time. Since I'd never been there before, Desirae, co-owner, scheduled my appointment with "someone who could cut/layer/style long, thick hair." Two tips: 1) if they don't answer right away, try again a few minutes later especially if you're like me and don't like leaving messages. 2) your credit card number is collected at the time of scheduling an appointment to avoid no-shows! I asked for the earliest appointment possible which was 9:00 a.m. on Jan 8, 2020. The night before I got a text from Margie confirming it. Nice touch! Because my hair was/is so long and thick, my cut/style is a bit pricier than some clients at $65.00. Another tip: most stylists appreciate cash tip. For me it was worth it because the layers look natural and free-flowing. I don't know how she did it, but the thicker side of my head seems much more light-weight than it ever has. Just what I asked for! This salon has plenty of parking in a shared lot. It's clean. I was offered coffee or tea - the coffee is pretty good! "Unite" is their choice of hair products which I had never used prior to my appointment, but now I'm intrigued especially after the free sample of "7-seconds" leave-in conditioner they gave me. I had my balayage done by Natasha and she did such an amazing job! I'm extremely satisfied with the work Natasha did on my hair. I've had my hair done in different salons and by different stylists in the past and it always feels damaged afterwards because of the bleach. But Natasha used nothing but the best high end products on my hair, took her time to do quality work and made sure it was healthy when she was done with the treatment she added in. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new hair salon, and this one caught my eye because of all the glowing Yelp reviews and beautiful blonde balayage hair photos (my usual style). I texted their number with current photos of my hair as well as inspiration photos, and Desi was very prompt in getting back to me and scheduling my appointment with Dee. Once I sent the retainer payment, everything was all set! I arrived on Thursday 12/29 at 10am right when they opened, and Dee immediately greeted me and led me to her chair even though I think she was just getting in herself. I was really grateful for that, as I hate having to wait when I have an appointment. Dee was already prepared and aware of what I wanted done, but she asked me questions to make sure she got it right and listened attentively as I answered. She also gave me suggestions on what would look good on me but mostly made sure she understood what I wanted. She was super friendly and easy to talk to but also wasn't overly talkative which I appreciate. Any time she had to step away, she explained what she was going to go do and when she would be back. She also checked up on me frequently, asking if I needed to use the restroom, etc. While she was doing my hair, she would always ask if I wanted it like this or like that to make sure I'd be happy with the end result. She was also super gentle with her hands throughout the entire process and was mindful of accidentally hitting my ear, etc. She's so sweet! The balayage took about 4.5 hours total, which is quicker than what I've experienced previously so I was thrilled. But more importantly, my hair looks amazing! I've definitely found my new colorist. I came in for a color and cut. This is my 2nd time at this salon. I was in communication with Desi and sent her pics of my current hair and inspo. My appt was w Silvia (she has a bob cut)When I first arrived, I checked in w the front desk but I'm not sure if that was Desi. I agree w the rest of the reviews about the greeting/welcoming. No smile, no nothing. that's the biggest impression customers have on a salon. She then told me that she will let Silvia know I'm here since she was finishing up w her last client. 10 mins passed, and Silvia came up to me and notified me that the front desk girl didn't tell her I arrived. why do salons charge for a late show but we as clients don't get compensated for seeing us late? Doesn't make sense. When I sat in Silvia's chair, I turned to my right and long behold I see the woman that was supposed to notify Silvia getting her hair done. Lol. Just strange that you still have a customer waiting and you go and do your hair. loved my hair color, I just don't like the way she cut my hair. It looks very choppy. & I only have face framing layers, the back is all the same length but she went ahead and did her own thing with my hair and cut layers in the back. I knew I was going to cut around 3 inches off my hair hence why she quoted me $200 bc they didn't want to waste product but she definitely cut much more than that. At first, she tied my hair and chopped it off w a scissor and then after she dyed it, and it was wet she cut even more off of it. It felt never-ending. I just wanted her to stop chopping. It's pretty much considered short, shoulder length now. I was upset because I felt like she wasn't communicating all throughout & didn't have me facing the mirror! I couldn't see what she was doing and I don't understand why she had me facing the street. When I asked her why she cut layers in the back she smiled and said, "yeah doesn't it look nicer like this?" Even when she washed my hair for me, it was dripping from the back of my neck down to my back and I even got dye on my shirt. Just felt uncomfortable the entire time. I think she did a great job with the color, but she needs to work on communication and actually listen to her clients and ask questions when you're about to do something that can't be undone. I'm sad that my hair looks choppy, and don't think it's worth the $200. I wish I could get at least 50% of my money back. I'm sad that now I have to pretty much wait for it to grow back. read more
