Foods decent, bar service has always been good to me when visiting. Overall quality place to grab a bite to eat.

I'd give the food a C+. I had a filet which was served with a baked potato and garlic bread. The steak was good but wasn't the best cut of meat, probably from Sam's or Schwans. The potato while cooked was hard. It had been sitting in a warmer for a while. The bread was slightly burned. The service was okay. They were friendly but slow to check back. He called the restaurant back within 40 minutes of leaving and asked for the extra tip to be cancelled from our card and the manager refused and tried to shame him. I usually avoid places with a hundred reviews and only three stars. Glad I tried this one. (Three stars is accurate.) Apparently, they've heard the criticism of the dry, stringy brisket and just taken it off the menu. Wait staff was friendly and prompt, unlike some other reviews. Maybe today was a good day (a Monday at lunch - not extremely busy). We ordered the house chips with pulled pork, a pulled pork sandwich, and a smoked chicken platter ($5.95 for a leg quarter platter? Yes, please! Wait - don't do it!) The pulled pork is tender and good. The chips were not smothered in sauce, so it was easy to get a few bites of "pure, unadulterated" pork. Good flavor. That $5.95 chicken? There's a reason it's cheap. Probably the smallest chicken thigh I've ever seen. Tasted good, but it was a bit dry and overdone. The coleslaw was decent - not too wet, with a vinegar based dressing. Baked beans were okay- a little too sweet for my taste but not bad. Three stars - I wouldn't go out of my way for this, but it's a decent stop if you're traveling through at lunchtime and need a BBQ fix. read more

Another one of those hometown faves I don't ever think to review. This local place has made very few changes over the years, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. The service is usually great, the drinks are decent, & the food is awesome. The loaded potato, burger, & salad (yes the salad) are reaaally good. Went with the chicken Philly this time just to switch things up & it was excellent. The fried mushrooms are a must, & my companion enjoyed their hamburger steak which was requested with no gravy. Only complaint was I wasn't fond of the onion rings, but my granny had no issues polishing them off they also have hot & fast lunch specials during the week. read more

Was hoping for a larger BBQ menu. Ordered the ribs, they were ok. Ordered the pork plate...tasted so wild and dry. We had to ask for bbq sauce. Our waitress was so bored. Not one smile or happiness. She should have stayed home. Another waitress was happy, smiling and very pleasant. The parking was scary. Had to park in the back with a shady broken down truck. I ordered the blackened chicken salad. I'm going to say it.... there was ALMOST too much chicken in it! Yeah I said it. I am stuffed on this kitchen sink of a salad. Romaine under a mass of perfectly blackened chick, tomatoes, cheddar, crutes and I'm thinking some bacon? Anyhoo I previously had their beef tips, De-Lish! I highly recommend Jake and Rips. I can be very critical when it comes to food but this place was very good. I had the catfish which I will say was not the best I have ever eaten but it was above average, the onion rings were among the best I've ever had as well as the fired green tomatoes. My wife got the fired shrimp and they were very good (as good as you will get without being near the coast). My son had the ribs and the were good as well. Saved the best for last. My father in law got the grilled pork chop, and after seeing it I had to get a bit and it was probly the best I've ever had, tender and moist. I will be back and I will get the grilled pork chop with onion rings We came back and got the Philly cheese steak and shrimp poboy, shrimp was really good and Phillycheese steak was probably best I've ever had. read more

I spent a fun Friday night here on a quick trip to Grenada. The bar was full, so I sat nearby at a table to myself. I was able to get a beer as soon as I sat down, so that's cool. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and they were the best I've ever had. Perfectly fried, yummy sauce (of which I needed a 2nd order!). I also had a pulled pork sandwich and it was nothing special. The meat was a bit dry and having a super thick bun made it even worse. My service was outstanding and there a few local beers, but not many. They had nothing on tap, only bottles and cans. As others have mentioned, the parking is pretty terrible, but I survived. In some towns, this place might struggle, but I expect it's the very best of this type in Grenada and certainly more fun than a national-chain-type place. read more

While traveling through we stopped at Jake and Rip's without reading the reviews. So glad we did! Our server was sweet and friendly. They had a decent selection of wines and they were priced right...Bonus, served in a real wine glass! We shared the 16oz pork chop with a loaded baked potato and a side salad. I didn't get a pic of the salad, but it was fresh greens with cheese, bacon, tomatoes and croutons in a chilled bowl. The pork chop was juicy and flavorful. The potato was hot and fresh. After seeing a pic of the onion rings I wish we'd also ordered those. Summary, ignore the old reviews, it was a nice atmosphere, clean and great service. We live outta town (Jackson and Oxford), but my mom and I always eat here after we meet for a long day of biking Grenada Lake (Hugh White State Park) so we work up quite an appetite and lemme tell ya the bbq is delicious! I started by going into the Kennel Club. Same kitchen, two different restaurants. Kennel Club: I walked in and an older couple were walking toward me, so I stepped off to the side -- wearing my mask. They decided to stop and talk to some folks at another table. The aisle was blocked, so I could not pass. The couple did not seem concerned that I was just standing there. Then, two employees entered from behind the bar to bring food to tables. They said nothing to me. They placed the food and returned through the door behind the bar -- nothing said to me. I stood there for about five minutes and the couple wouldn't move, wouldn't acknowledge me, and there was no help to be found in the restaurant. I finally left. There is a breezeway between the two restaurants and on the steps of the breezeway there were three people smoking. None made a move to get out of the way so I could pass, so I walked around to the front of the building and entered. Once again, I stood for several minutes before someone approached me. I indicated that I would be happy to sit at the bar, to which they obliged. There I sat for about 5 minutes before anyone came behind the bar. I was asked what I would like to drink, but the server was working the till and handling some food. Twice she left behind the bar and waited on a nearby table (granted, it was to deal with the bill). But, clearly she knew these people and she stopped to chat with them. When she did come back behind the bar, she fussed around a bit, and left again. She did show up with a glass of water a few minutes later. I stopped her and gave the order, because I didn't know how long she would be. I got the pulled pork plate -- reasonably priced and I thought a sure thing. Well, the food didn't take too long, but the only thing tasty about the pork was the sauce they had put on it. The meat was tasteless. The slaw was so-so and the boiled corn probably had the most taste. I was never asked again if there was anything I would like, etc. I suddenly got the bill. Paid it. Got up to leave out the back door. Remember the breezeway? The same three people were there with another person who had blocked the aisle when I was trying to get seated at the Kennel Club. I turned around and went out the front door and walked around back to my car. This is mostly about the staff, who did not seem to be concerned about me as a customer. They certainly waited on their friends, but I noticed that others in the room were mostly ignored. The food was blah and un-inspired. I have eaten here before and not had this type of experience, and maybe this was a one-off, but I got the feeling this was standard operating procedure. That the help at the Kennel Club did not even notice me, or the situation that caused me to stand around -- and the same with the customers blocking the aisle. The help at Jake & Rip's was dissociated from customers they did not seem to know. That would seem like a real red flag, because this is the only non-chain place at this exit on the interstate. read more

It had been a few years since I ate here. They have remodeled with a sports bar feel. Looks good. My wife and I ordered BBQ, her the sandwich, me the plate. Unfortunately, the pork had a really bad taste, like it was old. My wife couldn't eat hers and I ate half of mine, heavily sauced. Truthfully , we should have sent it back. Someone really needs to do a quality check in the kitchen. My son got the catfish and it was pretty good. The restaurant was doing a good business so maybe this was a fluke. On a stop-over tonight in Grenada, I asked the hotel clerk for recommendations for take-out and she suggested Jake & Rip's. Sounded good, so I headed over there and asked to order a large pulled pork sandwich and fries to go. Wait staff was pleasant and helpful. I was told it would be 25-30 minutes, so I waited on a nice bench outside. At 25 minutes, I returned and the order was ready for me to take back to my hotel. The bun on the sandwich was a large plain bun, a bit dry, and nothing had been done to it (no toasting, warming, etc.). The pulled pork itself was horribly dry, hard, and chunky. The meat was also completely lacking seasoning. The BBQ sauce was reasonably good. The fries lacked crispness and any salt at all, which was particularly a problem since they supplied ketchup and extra BBQ sauce, but no salt. The coleslaw was quite good, but messy, since they also didn't supply any utensils or napkins. It was Easter Sunday, so maybe they had given their regular kitchen staff the day off. read more

Wish i would have checked Yelp before i went into this place. I need to stop judging a book by it cover. This place looked like it was packed so i assumed it was a local favorite. I didn't understand how employees couldn't just stop walking around and sit my coworker and I. Ordered the pulled pork "jumbo" sandwich. There was nothing jumbo about the sandwich and the pork was cooked well but was just "functional" to me. Little bit of taste but nothing great. One thing I will say is that this restaurant is in dire need of a deep DEEP clean. There was dust all over the place and the one thing that made me almost get up and walk out was the amount of dust built up around the air conditioning vents. Total lack of responsibility on managements part. The build up on the vents should be enough to close this place down. That air feeds the entire floor and pushes dirty air onto everything.
