I have massive scars running into my hairline, and my scalp is tender and sore still. Good place for a reliable cut. Have been coming to Jake's for a few months now. Junior is my regular barber. He does a nice job every time. Very good communication. He always asks to make sure he understands what you want and checks in to make sure you're happy with your cut. You can tell he takes pride in his work and it shows. Haven't gotten cuts from any of the other barbers, but they all seem to know what they're doing and they have good continuity. At other barbershops I've been to, you never know who you're going to get or their skill level. Timing is consistent as well. Haven't ever had to wait much past my appointment time. Easily the best haircut I've ever received. I typically would go somewhere just to get a specific number on the top and side. I came in and was instantly greeted by each barber. It's a small, but real welcoming place. Junior was my barber and asked me what I was looking for. As I was talking to him I could tell he's a real class act and hilarious guy to be buddies with. I had a wedding coming up and and just started watching Mad Men and told him I want it like Don Draper. He knew exactly what to do. Short & tapered on the side, long & full on the top. As he was cutting my hair, he was training another barber. As he was passing him tips, you could tell he really knew what he was doing and focuses to the smallest detail in accordance to your hair. He also gave me a straight razor on the neck and face showing what else they could do. Afterwards, they recommended me a blue gel called Champion. It doesn't flake because their is no alcohol in it. I was easily impressed and very gratified by the work they have gave me. Only downside is the wait is typically about an hour (so I hear, but have yet to experience that). Luckily I was there the day after 4th of July so there was no wait. I have now found my barbershop. read more

These guys are decent. Carlos(the main guy) situated closest to the window, has been in Eagle Rock for years. Jake's has been through some turnover. Carlos trains them and then new barbers come along. If you have the time, then this spot is for you. I used to go here first thing in the morning before they even open to avoid the rush. Calling ahead sometimes helps but it usually is a wait. Its a cool spot to hangout and spend some quality time with the barbers who are entertaining. It used to be $10 then $15 a cut but I guess they are keeping up with the industry standards proceed for cuts are now $25. I've had my haircut here for the last 3 times over the last 3-4 months and there is a reason I keep coming back. They do a great job, especially Carlos. Sometimes he'll do a quality control check on some of the other guys (Radar and Junior) to make sure that you're getting a quality cut. Cuts are $15 and no complaints; it's worth at least $20 in my opinion. Great atmosphere too. It's got the real barbershop/mancave feel because that's what it is.
