I called maybe about 2 hours before I showed up to the place and the person whom I spoke to told me they were able to do walkings. When I got to the place the first thing I noticed was that the guys were playing around. One of the barbers had to tell them to act like barbers. When I asked if they were able to cut hair they said only by appointments. My issue is that if I had to make an appointment they should have told me over the phone rather than wasting my time. Well, I came in to see Alfred after looking over some photos of his cuts on Yelp, and it looked like he did the style I was looking for so I gave it a try. Took my son on a last minute cut day before he started Kindergarten as our usual Barber was unavailable and what can I say.... it was a great experience! Everyone was attentive and welcoming. My son has been cutting his hair since he was 6 wks old and although he is use to it he was at first a bit hesitant, but in the end He was delighted. He said that they were very gentle with him and "The machines didn't hurt" lol! I noticed that Albert was the one to go to for the young ins as they were all coming in with appointments... my son a Jordan fanatic question why he couldn't get him, but was still very pleased with his cut. They get pretty busy yet move at a steady pace. I'm use to the wait when coming in without an appointment but felt as they moved quicker than previous barber shops. They get 5 stars from me! We have a personal relationship with our current barber shop, but I know where to come on occasions as they proved to be very trustworthy. read more

And what had appeared to be a purposefully botched hair cut. People can be real turds, and I know this first hand because I'm one of them. Didn't get the name of the barber, but my sideburns were left uneven and the taper in the back wasn't really a taper at all, making it look more like the pizza hut logo. I asked just for a trim on top and he proceeded to a majority of it off. Also was charged $25 for just the haircut? The photo of the sign on this yelp page says it is only $20 but was charged 25. I didn't pay attention to the sign at the time in person so that's my own fault. read more

After moving to this neighborhood, I was happy to find a good barber within walking distance of my apartment. I've come here three times so far and have been very satisfied with my results. I usually just walk-in and have had a different person each time cut my hair. Regardless of who's behind the clippers, it's been an immaculate cut every time. The place is clean and at $20 a cut, you can't get quality for this price at a lot of other places in LA. I've been very happy with my hair every time I've gotten it cut and will stay a loyal customer as long as I'm living in Highland Park. 10/10 definitely recommend if you're in the area. This place is one of the LA-style places for me. Looks good, smells good (which is important for me), has nice personnel inside. Pricing is not so bad as it could be just for haircut. The only thing about 4 stars is gel! I've never ask about it either nobody is asked me about using that, just put some gel on my head. To be honest - I hate gel on my head. But I'm not a crazy about that and just said it's ok if they washed that out my head. I thought the service is to ask you customers about the things they want or don't want to have. I stopped by here last Friday to get a haircut- it had been over a month (I know, I know...) since my last cut. I recently moved to the area and I was really nervous about going to a new barber. I read a review on yelp that gave me some concern, that the reviewer experienced some homophobia at the shop. I'm glad that I decided that I had to experience the shop for myself- I told myself that if I felt uncomfortable, I could leave, and there were dozens of other barber shops nearby. This one happens to be about a block from my home, so I felt like I had to try it. There was a bit of a wait (about 40 mins) which I think is a great sign. There were a whole bunch of guys in the shop, hanging out, chatting, listening to music, and having a good time. This was clearly a spot that built that atmosphere - and it felt good to be in it. The barber I had, Albert, was dynamite. Great conversation, great skill, and I left the shop feeling great about my look. The shop is cash only, which may be a barrier for some. All in all, New York Cuts is well-priced, and I really can't overstate how good the vibes were. I can pretty much guarantee this is going to be my barber shop for the next few years while I live in Highland Park. read more

I asked for a size 6 with a taper and a line up .... Got a forest gump/jarhead cut .... Felt like I literally walked in and said "F#%$ Me Up Fam." Only reason I gave an extra star is because people who saw me thought I wanted a military look, which I thought was cool despite having some parts of my head looking a little patchy (just one spot) and some hairs being longer than others. But now for a more objective review. I think they may use the same razor for more than one person, I was itchy as hell after the whole mess. And the machines they use pulled my hair a lot. I think they invest more money in the appearance of the shop than the actual quality of their equipment. To be fair, I think if I would've been more specific about the style of hair I wanted and shown a picture to the barber of the style I wanted, perhaps I would've received a more decent haircut. But ... When does one expect a barber to not be experienced enough to cut a very common .... Enough venting. Cool people, nice place, looks like they care about the way they present themselves. But be sure to be very specific when asking for your haircut, or show pictures .... Maybe a 360 degrees view of the haircut you want. Be careful first timers! :) In case the barber wants picture please feel free to ask but I didn't want to make this that much of a negative review. read more

Took my son for a hair cut, he was taken care by the older guy. He is very attentive and polite but the hair cut was not up to par. Not for $20. There are some younger barbers there and their cuts seemed worth the $20 but not our guy. Sorry but you must meet a certain expectation if you are going to charge that much for a kids hair cut. read more

Good Barbershop in the area I live in. The wait isn't insane yet because they are new to the are, with a sister store in Eagle Rock. It gets busier each time I go. Looks like Albert is the main man from my observation . He is vey nice or very customer centric. Does a nice cut. He is very focused. The other Barbers ( two other have cut my hair) did a good job.
