Finally had the opportunity to get a hair cut at "New York Cuts" in Eagle Rock. Had let my hair grow a bit to my dissatisfaction and after a lunch at Delia's took a stroll over there. Had a short wait and had "Anthony" cut my hair. I let him do his job as he saw fit with little imput from me, as I'm never sure what looks good in a haircut. He's friendly and a very good barber. The shop is nice and they provide contemporary rock which was good to hear as I'm generally hooked on Oldies. They are cash only but there is an ATM there with I believe a $3.00 charge. I've tried to go here in the past and I think I was deterred due to parking, there may be parking in back, I'm not sure.The fee was $35 for a basic haircut which I think was fair for the quality of the cut and the attention to detail. Give Anthony a try if you are in need of a good haircut. The place got pretty busy after lunch and I believe there were 3 barbers on duty. read more

I am not one to leave a bad review but this time the haircut i got was so HORRIBLE that i had to go home and buzz ALL OF MY HAIR OFF. I have been to this barbershop before and came out pleased with my haircut so I came back trusting I would get a good cut once again but that was not the case. I went in with someone else we both asked for the same haircut (a low taper), his actually came out good but for some reason the barber who I unfortunately don't know the name of decided to give me the exact opposite of what I asked for. He cut off all the hair on my sides and had the top long, basically giving me a skin fade instead of a low taper and had me looking HORRENDOUS right before an important event. Not only that but he didn't even give a good fade. Half of my head was faded a noticeable 2 inches lower than the other side, if you're going to mess up at least make it look good especially if you're going to have the audacity to charge $35 for a botched haircut. I do not recommend coming here, I would if I came out of the place with a good haircut consistently but because of the horrible experience I had to warn anyone else from getting done as dirty as I did. If i could give zero stars I would, barber should get his license revoked, do better! read more

I'm not usually one to leave reviews, but I wanted to share my experience. I first got my haircut here by Brian, and it came out perfect--he paid attention to every detail. However, when I went to a different stylist , named Anthony (Brian wasn't there that day), and gave the same instructions, the cut didn't turn out right. I asked if he could fix it and he seemed slightly frustrated at that. I was disappointed but still tipped. A few months later, I returned with clear reference photos and detailed instructions, hoping for a better outcome. Unfortunately, the guy Anthony messed it up again. The front was longer than the back, uneven, and the bulk I asked for was gone (I request a low taper fade, blend sides with top, leave bulk in the back, and trim the top less than an inch). When I asked if he could fix it, he again seemed passive-aggressive. His response was, 'You told me not to trim much off the top,' making it seem like I didn't understand what cut I wanted, but that didn't explain why he cut off so much bulk or why the front had more volume than the back now. I asked to trim the top so it can look even with the sides and he told me "Ok , i'm just gonna do what you say" But if he did that in the first place he wouldn't be having to fix my hair ... While I was thankful he fixed it and still tipped again, it resulted in cutting off more than I originally wanted. Maybe he's just not comfortable or as skilled with cutting longer hair. I've been going to the NYC shop on Monte vista for awhile but due to covid stopped at their location on York. I saw a lot of the barbers on Monte vista. All the barbers they hire are great. Hot tip: Really recommend you call ahead and make an appointment or else bring a full charge on your phone because that line can take forever. By far the worst haircut of my life. I went to an outdoor barber to look better, I left with jacked up hair! A guy in his 20s (trim and about 5'5") cut my hair on the side of the store front on Ave 46 at 1:45PM Monday 8/24/2020 after just returning from his lunch. I explained what I wanted and it's like he didn't listen or care at all! He was halfway through my haircut when I mentioned in passing, where I part my hair. He sounded shocked and asked if I was sure I parted my hair on *that* side. (It's been parted there every day since I was 16. I'm sure!) Despite sitting down with my hair parted on the right, he hadn't paid attention and cut mixing up the side on which I part my hair. ‍ I'm left with this sort of ridiculous looking Mohawk. There are also parts sticking out and lopsided that I guess I'm supposed to cut myself with scissors? Without a mirror to watch, I sat down trusted this guy to cut my hair and the joke was on me! You would think that cutting unequal lengths of hair off when hair grows uniformly in length/speed would have caused him to question. But he clearly just doesn't know how to cut hair. I paid and when I tipped him he said, "oh cool!" like he didn't think he was going to get a tip. He shouldn't have! My son had super long hair he's been growing for a year and i took months convincing him to cut it. I finally convinced him to cut it. We get there the lady was really nice explained what kind of hair cut we wanted down to showing her old pictures of his hair when the guy started cutting it I realized it was a mistake. My sons hair had no part was sticking up everywhere uneven I'm soooo upset I paid 35$ for someone to mess up my sons hair. I don't live far but I'd rather travel here than go to other barbershops near me. Parking is street parking. Every time I've gone in, they get me in right away or I'd be waiting 5-10 mins for someone to get me. I've got a cut from almost all the barbers there and they all do an awesome job. Whatever picture or explanation I give them of what I want my haircut to be, it comes out to be 10x times better than I imagined it. They get all the details. They never disappoint. Good prices too. THEY DO NOT CUT BLACK HAIR!!!!! I called ahead and asked if they cut black hair and they said they did. I got there and the first cut was horrible. When I went back to try and get it fixed the guy near the register starting talking in Spanish so he could ask the guy next to him how to cut my hair. Good haircut but buyer beware, used their ATM with my brand new card that I just got from chase that day and the next day My account was hacked. I don't recommend using their ATM machine until it's fixed. Update: 2/6/17 Talked to the owner and he said the machine was checked out, but that doesn't mean someone didn't just take the device before he had it checked. Also, owner said to stop by for a hair cut, I did that today, waited 45 min until he told me he wasn't available. TLDR: Owner doesn't know how ATM skimming works and doesn't know how to really communicate with customers well. I forgot originally that I even left this review and he brought it up. Nice. I liked the laid back atmosphere. I thought this was one of those new expensive shops, was totally wrong. Male haircut was $25. I really hope they do okay with businesses closed due to Covid-19. I feel lucky I discovered them a week before the social distancing business. Follow-up 4 months later/August 2020. They're very clean and wearing masks. I like seeing them spray disinfectant on the trimmers and clean equipment. They do an amazing cut outside. Remember, cash only, they do have an ATM inside. Also, they are insanely busy, even scheduling appointments is obviously difficult as they are swamped with people. Just do a walk up and please be patient. However, they are taking their time and doing it the right way. All employees wore mask that covered their nose too. read more
