Father day breakfast near lodging. The atmosphere was upscale, the service was good but the option menu provided to us, not what other customers got when they were seated, provided limited options to choose from. The prices were reasonable although the steak and eggs were a disappointment to how small the steak was. Our food was good enough to eat and enjoy our time together.

We booked this venue/caterer in December 2017 for our May wedding after our original venue shut down abruptly without notice. We worked with Kirsten Sheahan from Jake's Catering and had the perfect intimate wedding in the Sentinel Hotel's historic Library. Kirsten was kind, thoughtful, responsive, obliging, and made the whole process so easy to plan on short notice. She eased my mind from the troubles we had with the prior venue, and I can't imagine getting married anywhere else. It was exceptionally beautiful, intimate, warm, and romantic. We did not have to worry about a single thing! The banquet staff were completely professional, warm and attentive to our every need, very good at their work, and we had a seamless top notch service the entire event. The food too was delicious and our 27 guests raved about the food selections we made. My only complaint is that the day went by too quickly. I highly recommend Jake's Catering at the Sentinel Hotel for your next event!

Where do I start? The Sentinel Hotel and Jakes Catering are the best in class! I give them 5 stars in all aspects. I recently got married in Portland, OR and hosted the reception at the Sentinel Hotel's Governor Ballroom and used their in-house catering: Jake's Catering. Let me start from the beginning. During my exploration visit, I immediately loved the location of the hotel. It's in the most "happening" part of town: the pearl district, where beautiful shops, cafes/restaurants, and "brewery central" resides. Tree lined streets and nearby parks border the hotel making it a great place for out-of-towners to putts around during a wedding weekend. The Venue: I love that the hotel has history to it. The designers who recently updated the hotel did a fantastic job my adding in funky Portland touches while still preserving the historical theme of the hotel. To sum it up: The outside of the hotel: stunning, the lobby (made from old book shelves): fun, the hotel bar: very popular filled with beautiful people, hotel rooms: top notch, the hotel's little details (hallways doors ceilings): all well thought through and unique!!!! Everything about the "look" of this hotel is amazing and creates a great theme for a wedding. The Governor ballroom looks like a classic lavish jazz ballroom with 40 ft. ceilings and a ridiculous amount of crown moldings and grand columns. It certainly gives a Wow Factor when you step foot into it. Hotel Service: several of my guest stated that was the best hotel they had ever stayed in. The service was out of this world. All the staff made us feel so special and welcomed. Jakes Catering Food and Planning: Julie Weiss, Todd and their banquet teams are catering geniuses. Their level of knowledge in the catering industry is far more superior than the average caterer. They are competitively price, a dream to work with, and executed their food and services better than I could have dreamed of. All of the catering staff were dressed in sharp uniforms, they set up 2 beautiful bars with twinkling candles all over them. They didn't miss a mark on the food service schedule. The dinner was a pre-plated dinner with bread/butter and a caprese salad to start, then we went into a chicken and jumbo shrimp dish, and finished off with their signature crème brulee. The whole service flowed beautifully which timed out our event perfectly, not to mention the food was delicious. I had guest comment that that the banquet staff were so attentive it felt like there was one banquet staff per guest. "Every time I was getting close to finishing my drink the banquet personnel topped off my drink immediately". Many brides state that planning a wedding can be stressful, but Jake's catering will help you alleviate your stress. They take care of majority of your setup: chairs, tables, glassware/silverware, candle votives, bar setup, cake cutting, and linen napkins/ table linen (this all comes free when you use their catering). The planning process with Julie was a blast. My mom and fiancé developed great banter with her, which brought in humor to the whole process, which then turned the planning process, believe it or not, into a FUN process. Julie was professional and personable, she was easy to get ahold of and easy to get decisions made and out of the way. I had some outrageous request and they pulled through (set up times, table count specifics). Their menu tasting and "week of walk throughs" made us feeling like royalty (private rooms, teams of catering staff serving us, meeting the chefs, etc. the whole 9 yards)! Thank you to the whole team that made our wedding a dream come true!

Pricing was absolutely reasonable. They arrived on the day of the event promptly, set up everything beautifully on the serving space and were nothing but gracious and courteous the whole time. The guests LOVED the food. Especially the marinated chicken thighs and the potato salad. I even received comments from guests the veggie tray was one of the most beautiful they had ever seen. All the other dishes were delicious as well and there was more than enough to send leftovers home with everyone who wanted some. Busy Bee elevated my event into something even more special by providing such amazing food. I never worried once about any part of catering, as they were the easiest to work with all around. Staff was incredibly nice and provided suggestions for us as there are a number of choices to pick from and most of them sounded amazing so narrowing it down to just one was very hard. They make their own marshmallows and you can purchase some of the flavors to take home as well, a great souvenir if you know someone who is a big marshmallow fan. I went with the Buckeye, because peanut butter! And all of the S'mores are on gluten free graham crackers which honestly seemed to taste so much better than regular graham crackers that always have a stale taste about them. My husband had the Rollin' in the Dirt (think a dirt cake) and also gave it two thumbs up. They told us that they are looking to relocate just across the street from their current mini location so don't fret if you don't see them in this same spot!

I discovered it when I saw an influencer in Portland gushing about their brunch. Although my schedule didn't allow me to partake in the limited hours brunch, I still wanted to go try it. The decor was nice and gave the whole space a cozy and intimate feeling. My best friend and I shared a couple dishes which I can't fully recall but I know we had lamb and I believe a mezza type platter. Of all the places we ate out at during this trip, this was our favorite. The owner's son was our server and he was really friendly and we talked about how we wished they'd open a branch in Seattle! Still hoping! :p Finally, we got a biscoff cheesecake and I make a very good biscoff cheesecake myself, but my bestie said theirs was better. I will neither agree or disagree with said statement. Anyway, looking forward to the day I get to return for more delicious food!

BEST MEAL IN PORTLAND!!!!!…read more Saw this place randomly while looking for a place to eat after a long flight. It was late and not many places were open. This place was closed but a middle eastern place that serves cheesecake was soo intriguing that i knew i needed to come back. Came back Saturday night and they had no tables and was packed. However, they tried to accommodate us so much. However, the night was in our favor. As we started to order take out, a lady was kind enough to give up her table since she was eating alone. It was a small table for 3 people but the staff was sooo accommodating i have no words. They even gave free dessert to the lady who was kind. Then luck would have it, the table next to us never showed up for their reservation so they gave us that table. Finally, we ordered. Turned out, i also got the last shawarma too. Everything happens for a reason! We also got the Saudi chicken kabsa and cheesecakes. The biggest compliment i can give is when the food came, none of us talked for a good 5-7 mins and just sat there in heaven eating. The flavors were soo unique but yet so familiar. If this is Saudi food, i have been missing out. I need to explore more sub categories of middle eastern cuisine. Best bites in Portland for us and that's all i have to describe our experience. Finally, got the Nutella cheesecake and almond caramel cheesecake. I have to say, Nutella was good but easily a skip compared to almond and caramel. Just get 2 of those and you'll be happy. The cakes itself are light and not heavy. They were great end to a great meal. This is a family owned but family loved business. You can see the love as they serve their guests but you can taste the love too. The people are soo sweet and kind and just want to serve you. Please give your love here, because if i lived in Portland, this would my weekly spot.

By 3:20, no one had arrived and I still hadn't heard anything. Around 3:25, I began trying to contact someone. After finally reaching someone after 3:30, I was told the kitchen had been extremely busy that day. At that point, I began to suspect the food might not be coming. At 3:49 PM -- just minutes before guests were arriving for a two-hour event -- I received a call letting me know the food had not even been made yet. I was told it might be ready "in a couple hours," and they suggested I order food elsewhere instead. We were left scrambling at the absolute last minute. We ended up ordering pizzas and salad from a local restaurant while family members rushed to the grocery store to put together charcuterie boards in the kitchen as guests arrived. It was stressful, embarrassing, and honestly hard to believe. I have worked in hospitality, events, fundraising, and vendor management since 2008 -- from hotels to nonprofit development work -- and I regularly hire caterers, bartenders, and vendors for professional events. In all those years, I have never experienced a caterer simply not show up and fail to communicate beforehand that they would not be delivering. To their credit, the contact person did apologize afterward and explained they were understaffed and going through staffing challenges. She also stated they would refund the order and help reimburse the replacement food costs. However, nearly a week later, I still have not received the full refund or reimbursement. I understand that difficult days happen in the service industry. What was most disappointing here was the complete lack of communication before the event and the position it put us in as hosts. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable relying on this company again for an event.
