We went to Jake's for the first time, and had a great meal. My wife had the Korean burrito, it was flavorful and had some good Korean flavors wrapped in a burrito shell. The staff said it was a staff favorite. I ordered the quesabirra tacos. They were good, but not the most flavorful I have had. We found Jake's to be reasonably priced and VERY kid friendly. The place is loud and lively! The ordering is cafeteria style, where you pick the style, then the protein, the upto 4 toppings, and any sides you want. The quesobirra taco was one of the best I've ever had. The beef nachos tasted freezer burnt which was odd for how tasty the tacos were. The burrito bowl with chicken was solid. Pros: super colorful and has a great beachy vibe. Cons: food does not taste good. Soooo bland. This is *not* Mexican food. Think elevated Taco Bell with more choices, but way worse than chipotle (which I actually like when I need something fast food ish) . You order up at the counter and then they either have it done by the time you get to the register, or they'll bring it out to you if it takes a long time. I got the create your own burrito bowl. It didn't taste like much. He got a quesadilla and something else. He didn't finish either of them. Where I live, there's a Taqueria on every corner so I'm used to good Mexican food. We had quite a bit of leftovers so we took it home and put it in the fridge, but it ended up just in the garbage. No one wanted to eat the leftovers. My husband enjoyed the burrito, I went with the pork carnitas tacos and my daughter loved her Burris Torta Ahogada. Chipotle has more flavor than this place. Oily food. No homemade salsa. Instant rice. Oily chips. This is not Mexican food. I've never ever had unseasoned tasting Mexican food before. They did however have the best sweet and spicy margarita I've ever had. The bartender knew what he was doing. Definitely a tourist attraction. I had high hopes and got let down. The Birra Torte Ahogada, the Quesabirria Tacos, and the Mexican Street Corn were all phenomenal! Some of the best Mexican food places we've ever been to! The Birra beef in the Torte was tender and flavorful the extra prep steps add a ton of flavors on top of that yet. The stewed beef used in the tacos is the same (I believe)...MMMMM Even the salsa and queso were fantastic and the chips were very thin but held up for dipping just fine! Plenty of seating and a relaxed vibe...you place your order right inside the door and continue on to the cash register to pay...there's a bar area as well for some adult refreshments. I've been a frequent customer at Jake's in Indian Rocks, but my most recent experience picking up food and drinks for friends was highly disappointing. We ordered tacos and margaritas to-go, specifically asking for no ice in the margaritas since we planned to store them in the fridge for later. I was shocked by the serving size we received. Despite paying $7 each, the containers were barely filled. Even considering the "no ice" request, the amount of liquid provided felt like a poor value for the price. Hubby ordered sopes and churros and he didn't care for his sopes because it was too soft. The churros was the best part. My guava margaritas was ok as well. In the middle of the night I felt weird like acid reflux I guess. I never had it before. Had to puke those taco juices up. Yep I can tell that flavor big time. So yeah not a good fit. One of the first places you see as you drive into Indian rock and it is always busy. Overall a decent Mexican spot that will feed your family quickly. We did carry out which was ready in a timely manner which is greatly appreciated. Food quality was fine and pretty tasty. My family was able to customize everything which was awesome. My taco salad was really good and came filled to the brim. Everyone was happy and full so that's a success in my book. Menu and ordering are done Chipotle style, where you pick your type (tacos, quesadilla, burrito) then select meat/protein, and add veggies/toppings a la carte. They have a couple house specials on the menu too if you prefer that route. Food is ready very quickly and you seat yourself, which gives the place a very no-frills vibe. Good place for a family and/or kids (we have a 2-year old and she loved it). We tried two house specials. The fish tacos were each loaded with a nice big piece of fried fish, plus the usual garnishes. The Korean burrito had a nice kick from some hot peppers to go along with beef, carrots, etc. I enjoyed the flavor, which was different than the other dishes. We also got an a la carte chicken quesadilla, which was enormous, stuffed to the brim, but otherwise unremarkable. They gave us a bag of chips with each entree; the chips were thin and not too salty, so it felt like you could eat a lot of them. I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed. We sat at the bar for drinks and an early dinner and from the start the service was horrible. The girl behind the bar needs to go do something else for a living. She was training another girl, but in my opinion, she is the one that needed the training. Someone needed to tell her how to tend bar. My drink was terrible. She didn't know what a crab trap was. She was very inattentive to our needs and mainly stayed at the complete other end of the bar the whole time we were there. We had to wave her down for every little thing. We were starving and wanted some chips and salsa to munch on and it took probably 20 minutes or longer to be served those. Maybe one table in the whole place at that particular time so they weren't busy. Our quesadillas were lacking in flavor and were even missing an item or two. This spot's a favorite of my family's! Today I had the carnitas tacos, which were very good. My family had the barbacoa tacos and the mahi tacos, which were even better! We decided to try Jake's for lunch. We were not quite sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Kind of reminded me of Pieology but for Mexican food. We walked to Jake's since we were just .50 mile from it. Easy walk down Gulf Blvd and it is just a block off of it. Jake's is bright and cheery, looks relatively new. Lots of tables inside and tables outside on the sidewalk. When you walk in, you place your order at a kiosk. It is pretty easy to follow, it takes you through each step of options for the dish you are ordering. Be aware that some add-ons have an up charge. Also, look for the special of the day. I was going to order BYO shrimp nachos and that was the special of the day. The serving sizes are pretty good size. We way over ordered not knowing he sizing. I couldn't finish my nachos. We ordered a large guac and nachos and could have ordered the small for our party of 5 with all the nachos which came with the meals. My son ordered a cheese quesadilla and he ate all of it. My husband a beef salad bowl, my daughter shrimp burrito and her friend ordered tacos. No one went away hungry. I also had the street corn and it was delicious! I added the fajita peppers and onions to my nachos. You could tell the onions and peppers had been sitting together for a while because the onions tasted like peppers. I probably would forgo that option next time. The drinks are either cans or bottles. I prefer fountain, but I had forgotten to order a water for my son and the nice man at the counter told me to just take a bottle., which was very nice of him. They only have bottled water that they charge for that is when we realized the establishment was owned by Crabby Bills. The water bottles have their logo on them. It is very much a serve your self establishment so do not expect any type of service to your table. We knew that ahead of time so were not disappointed. We will be back next time when we are in town and have a craving for Mexican food. read more

We came twice in 2 days and absolutely enjoyed everything we ordered, excellent customer service, staff helped us with swapping out items we can't eat due to dietary restrictions, and clean restaurant! We came back to Jake's again after many years. We recall visiting the original location during our last trip and had an amazing experience.
