After church on Sunday, we looked for a place we had not tried yet. We landed on El Huarache Azteca due to the good reviews and ratings. And it was on the way home. Our foursome arrived and waited a few minutes and grabbed the only open table. The place is wonderful and nicely decorated. Even the tables have Mexican art on theme. It was crowded with most Mexican families, which was a great sign. We were brought drinks and looked over the menu. Tortilla chips were brought and Salsa. I asked for Hot Salsa and it had a nice heat to it. I ordered Queso Blanco for the chips. I had read some negative reviews of the Queso but it was great. Took a bit, they were full of patrons, so we needed a refill of chips in the meantime. While waiting I took some pictures of the dining rooms, a lot of interesting items around. Our oldest daughter ordered a pound the Bistec Steak, with some flour tortillas. Our youngest daughter ordered the Steak Fajitas. My wife got her usual Burrito. I prefer the Chilis Relleno that are breaded and fried, most just cover with sauce, and theirs were breaded so my choice. Our meals came after a bit. The Fajitas were very good and came with a large jalapeno that was nicely fiery. The Burrito was good, just wish I could convince her to try other things. My Chilis Relleno were very good, but too much sauce over theme took away the crispness of the fried batter. Tasted good though. The pound of Bistec Steak was the big hit. It was delicious, we all tried a bite. Next time I think we will get a couple pounds for the table, which should feed four people easily - as long as my 16 year old grandson in not along. Interesting restaurant. Went on a late Sunday afternoon. Chips were delicious. Salsa was decent. The food was decent but didn't stand out. We had tacos, enchiladas, and burritos with various fillings. The rice and beans were bland and not presented well. I think some lettuce and sour cream could be added. My fruit margarita was nothing to write home about, and since we chose Mexican for that, it was a disappointment. The flight, however, proved oddly, entertaining. It comes in a hollowed out wooded airplane and is carried out with great presentation by the entire staff, all of whom are costumed up. Music rocks the house and guests are treated to some exotic dancing as each server performs. Many have great moves! But I was left to wonder how they felt about that part of the job. My friend said there was liquor in her flight drinks. We had dessert, and like the rest of the food, it was decent but nothing outstanding. Service was attentive. The place is airy and bright. Ever get hungry and want to switch things up? I was in Clearwater for work and decided I wanted something other than the drive thru for lunch. Started out with freshly baked tortilla chips served with some of the best salsa verde I've ever had, and a tall glass of cold horchata. If that had been the whole meal I would have been happy enough. The horchata was like dessert in a glass. So deliciously sweet and refreshing. Then my giant lunch was brought to me. Milanesa de res (breaded beef), with all of the fixings, including a basket of warm, fluffy tortillas. Look at the pictures. It was enough for two meals! So that's exactly what I did. And let me tell you, those leftovers were just as good for lunch today. I'm just missing that horchata. Huarache Azteca itself is vibrant, cozy, and clean, and I loved the music, too. An out of the way location from the 19 Highway. Close to Drew. I never would have found it without GPS. But I'm glad I did. Very family place with authentic dishes and lots of menu items to choose from. And daily specials that are super affordable. I had the lunch special which was three tacos, rice and beans, and an iced tea. Just under $15. And first quality. Great home made chips and tomatillo salsa came right away. My favorite Mexican food place in the entire Tampa Bay Area! Moving from California, I was desperate to find authentic Mexican and this has been exactly that for my last 4 years living here. My favorite thing to order is their Al Pastor Gorditas, the meat is so juicy and flavorful especially. Every dish I've ordered here has been perfection. The portions for price are amazing, very affordable and filling. I wish I could keep this place all to myself but they deserve the love from new customers. Exploring the side roads... of HWY19 in Clearwater. I discover this unique Mexican spot!! Not sure the region of Mexico the recipes originate. Boy, they did not hesitate to make a statement. This is the second time we stop by and food is consistently delicious, service is wonderful both servers were polite and friendly. It has 2 small chair for outside seating and plenty of seating inside and great vibe inside. Outside you have the melody of local parrots nesting nearby. Good option, but in comparison to Mexican food in Mexico, Texas or California it's just average. This restaurant is tucked in the back of an office park off of US19 and Drew St. I was in the mood for Mexican food, so I yelped it, missed the turn and had to circle back on 19. The food was okay, but nothing memorable enough for me to make a trip out. The kids and my mom seemed to be pleased, but again no one was blown away by flavor. The chips and salsa comes with a verde salsa. I love salsa verde made with tomatillos, but this one wasn't as flavorful or as tangy as I've had in the past. I had an enchilada platter and a agua de jamaica (hibiscus drink). The drink was delicious and not too sweet or too sharp tasting. The service was very good and very friendly. The restaurant is actually spacious. In the area this is one of the bigger Mexian owned restaurants I've been to (that's not attached to a bodega). read more

There is nothing "authentic" about this place. Unseasoned, overcooked, "mexican" food for old people that are terrified of flavor and spices. The queso was the most odd tasting queso I've ever had, seems like it was made with Mozzarella, which isn't Mexican in the slightest. Their "hot" salsa was barely mild, so it was easy to tell what kind of clientele they're used to serving. Fajitas came out soggy and severely overcooked. Not to mention that a Fajita plate for 2 and 2 sodas was over $50. If you want good AUTHENTIC Mexican food, try Chile Verde in St. Pete. read more

Pretty authentic located out of the way in an industrial zone off US19. Your GPS better be working really well. I had the chicken enchiladas. Very ample portion with green sauce. The server warned the red would be hot so I skipped. But now I wish I'd had it instead. My friend had a vegetarian burrito with mushrooms etc. I didn't sample it but it looked very fat. Wasn't a fan of the house made chips or the green salsa. Neither had much flavor. I enjoyed the Mexican atmosphere and I would return again. Coming from the west coast, it was almost culture shock for me to move to central Florida and have such a hard time finding a good Mexican place Cuban food is everywhere but if you like your carne asada with hot salsa and horchata rather than Cuban bread and cafe con leche you may be hard pressed to find a place around here. Sure, there's a few hole in the wall places, I even found one in Drew who until recently charged different prices for their Spanish customers than gringos and that I didn't speak Spanish, despite my deep and abiding love for the the culture of magnificent Mexico, was an insult. Not at Huaraches de Azteca. Not only is their food great but the service is fantastic, fast, personable and wonderful. All the ladies there work very hard but are never short on smiles. On Saturday nights they have live Mexican guitar and even when at their busiest, these serving girls glow with pride. I absolutely love coming here. The nachos are delicious. If you like hot salsa, order their--I don't know the Spanish name, but I call it fire and they just laugh and serve it to me--fire salsa. It's not just hot to be hot, it has a unique flavor as well as spicy. Some of the best salsa I've had. The prices here are very reasonable $2 tacos every day. And they even deliver! In search of the taco place. I look up Dianna review and decide to try this place. You can said is unique place in the Bay Area with authentic Mexican food. I have not seen our recent taco crazy taco queen Kristal checkin to this place. I finally have a place to bit her to the punch. It was surprise to me this place have good taco at very economical scale. I have three tacos and a margarita for total of $11. I have the steak, pastor and lamb. This is the first time I have the lamb taco. It is very different than other taco place. Very tasty. It come in chunk. Good in value for this taco. The other two taco is not bad either. During the weekday including Friday, they run the two margaritas for $5 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Very good deal. So, It's been a busy few days, the husbeast is working on a deadline and I've been getting in gear for a trip to DC, and tonight meant I had been all day in Tampa visiting my favorite Salon (Tribeca on Kennedy, Say Hi to Mikey if you will) and I really wanted to see my husband for dinner, that meant challenging traffic over to the Pinellas side of the bay. When I arrived at his company, he greeted me and we spun the wheel of yelp and landed on something he'd heard about, El Huarache Azteca, a place that claims to be Authentic Mexican. He'd heard good things from friends and Yelp said 4 stars, so.. It was a go! We arrived and the little hole in a wall place was packed. There were 3 four tops available, and one booth being cleaned up, but other than that, BUSY was the name of the game. Two large TV's were broadcasting videos, a holiday awards music program off telemundo and the music flooded the place. The menu was large, filled with familiar and unfamiliar things. I opted for the Nachos Azteca and my husband went for a chimi changa. There was a large party at the table near us, and they were still waiting on their food, so I thought we might be waiting for a while, but we didn't. The food came out rather quickly. The portions (Well mine) were HUGE. The Husbeasts were modest, with a chimichanaga and a small salad on the plate. The flavors were good, though to me, even though I opted for no Jalapeño, the nachos were lacking something in flavor, a depth. The meat, the marinated pork was tasty, but there was just .. something. THe husbeast said that his was good, and he was a member of the clean plate club, so there were no complaints. The 2 of us with our meals and 2 cans of diet coke ate for under $20. Will we be back? Yes. Oh wow! We are here for the first time today. I like the authenticity of this place. We got chips and salsa. It was a very mild salsa. I asked and the waitress brought me a spicier sauce that was green. It was just what was needed. We noticed that the prices are very reasonable here . I order Verde chicken enchiladas and my husband had fajitas with chicken, steak and shrimp. He enjoyed his fajitas. I tried a shrimp and it was very good. I like the corn tortillas used for the enchiladas, they tasted homemade. By adding the spicy sauce to the enchiladas. They were spot on. The complaint my husband had was there was a large rip across the cushion which was very uncomfortable for him to sit on. read more

I ordered: Chorizo taco Al pastor taco Lengua taco Although you could tell the difference between the tacos from looking at them, they all tasted bland, boring, sad. When traveling my husband and I have always said that we want to eat where the locals eat, and I believe El Huarache Azteca may be just that place. Located in more of an industrial area, we were thankful to have found it as one would miss it if you were just driving back. The decor is cute--what you would typically find in an authentic Mexican restaurants. There are sombreros on the wall, many colors throughout and we were fortunate to hear a live musician as we entered. It did take a while to get our drink order and food but the burritos that we ordered were good. I was not a huge fan of the chips and salsa but my husband like them so there was nothing wrong with them. In fact, it looked as if the chips were made in house which should have been great, but again I just didn't care for the texture or taste.
