I remember Jakes from the mid to late 1990s and into the millennial era... it used to be good, but the coffee used to be typical diner coffee, kinda stale. This new Jakes, with new owners of 7 years, is fabulous. The coffee is FRESH tasty and hot. The hash I had was really divine. Northampton does not have a ton of full breakfast fare eateries. Hence places like Jake's are the places to go to get decent grub while sharing good times with friends. I ordered Jake's eggs over medium with bacon and white toast. Good thing they delivered rye instead, because the eggs were too rubbery to dip into the yolk. The plate was 2/3rds potatoes, which is a great thing to know if you love them. Would I go back? Sure! Northampton is about great friends and good memories. Restaurants with friendly staff that serves "whoopsie's" are part of the terrain. read more

I heard about Jake's on a Phantom Gourmet episode. It made my list of places to eat and I finally made it there yesterday! Before Jake's it was a barber shop then a restaurant I learned. The Roast Beef Hash was on the menu, I ordered it. So delicious. i also ordered their egg sandwich. Oh my! The shallots hit my taste buds perfectly. And yes I ordered a side of home fires. The seasoning was on point. I left happy and wicked full. FYI, Jake's just bottled up their Chili Sauce. I have two words, get it! read more

They're a little over priced but the food is good and the waitresses are always polite. The only downside how busy it can get after 9. It makes it really not worth going in. Go before then if you really want to snag a table. They're also the only place in the area that's not Denny's that sells grits so there's that. read more

I'm leaving Northampton soon and I feel I have to review Jakes. Had the pork belly burger (with a side salad) today and it was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. I usually order omelet, but their side potatoes are not as good as they used to be. Kale salad is healthy and extremely filling. Stopped in because of the great yelp reviews. My husband and I both ordered breakfast items. I ordered an omelette and my husband got the pork belly eggs benedict. The best part of my meal was the wheat toast... the eggs and potatoes were both lacking in flavor and nothing to write home about. My husband did enjoy his dish but also felt parts of it were under seasoned and bland. We both wished we had chosen somewhere else to eat. The place is very busy and obviously a local favorite so perhaps we ordered the wrong things or our food preferences are more geared towards what is available where we live which is 100+ miles away. read more

I couldnt believe how fresh all the veggies were and I adored the local jam offering. My first visit to the newly managed place ... I'd say the food was a touch better than before ... I had a biscuit with gravy (superb biscuit, gravy was just better than luke warm, a problem not limited to here and a pet peeve of mine) and fried eggs over medium (perfect) ... (note to Jake's: don't think using a microwave is a solution to this problem.) They used to have nice cold fresh milk in one of those gravity bag-of-milk thingys ... that was gone and replace by milk from a cardboard carton that wasn't by its nature as fresh or cold. Breakfast potatoes were tasty ...in the old place they'd gone down hill ... but they were far from crisp ... (either a decision to do them that way, or they haven't mastered them, or maybe they are cooking for the masses?) 3 1/2 stars actually. Oh the blank walls added a soul-less-ness to the revamped decor ... Oh, and we don't need plastic table tops and table cloths ... not at Jake's ... Suggestion: take the old sign, now hanging inside, and put it outside and the new sign inside for a while to make a point. read more

Sylvester's in Northampton does not compare in quality! I got the Coolige scramble with tomatoes, kale, and goat cheese. They were fully cooked, yet moist - I never knew that eggs could be these two things at once! It was one of the most splendid breakfasts I had ever had :-) The flavors of the veggies in the scramble went together better than I expected. The coffee was not bad. The squshy large slice of rye toast was the cherry on top! Not impressed and wanted to love it. First thing in the morning sat right down almost 5 minutes to get menus forgot we walked in for party of 4. Went for corned beef hash or stuffed French toast only had one flavor hash and no stuffed French toast. Hash came out burnt eggs were overcooked forgot the homemade marmalade which was very good and forgot other couples side of hash. They were halfway done eating when it came out. Also tables were very small and crammed together had people get up and move because could barely pull chairs out. read more
