One of my favourite Northampton brunch places! I try to come here as often as I can. The wait is always worth it!

I bring word to everyone that the Breakfast Wars in Northampton have ended; And alas, Jake's was the victor. Jake's won when they recently made a (real) Benedict one of there specials. Perfectly balanced, egg excellently poached, and with greens done fantastically. It was a bold move for a place with excellent Country Benedict (i.e. Biscuits and Gravy), daily hashes (some are amazing!), and a great lunch menu. And in the end, it finished the wars and made the waits at other breakfast places (you know who you are) unnecessary. Jake's is the place to go. Great service anytime. Efficient, courteous, even funny. Food is original and the best quality. Others had the originality and quality, but have lost their way. Jake's holds it completely. Creative, yet Comforting. Their Pastrami sandwich does not do anything groundbreaking, but it does enough different to be the best in town (maybe the state). Their Daily Hash's and other stuff is similarly creative--but not too far outside the box. The past few years have seen a lot of Breakfast changes in Northampton. And it was good--but there had to be a winner to wise out of the confused struggle for egg-dominance. And that is Jake's. Now comes the joys of peace. read more

I went to Jake's a couple of weeks ago for the first time since it reopened under new ownership and i was pleasantly surprised at how great it is. I never really went there because I preferred places with something a little different and the 'old' Jake's was sort of your standard diner fair. But I felt like something different and gave it a go. The food is just as good as any of the breakfast places in town with the long lines. I got grits with kale and cheese in them and fried eggs. They were perfect. My friend got a goat cheese, kale, and garlic scramble. It had whole roasted garlic cloves in it. I had had no idea that they were serving food in the same vein as the green bean etc. The server's were very friendly, the food was out fast, and we didn't wait in a long line to get in. I loved there grits so much i went back twice that week to get them again. I can't think of anything to complain about. read more

Food is really, really good. The service is also always good. The only drawback is that it is very pricey, considering that it's breakfast. YOu can easily pay what you would for dinner here! There are other breakfast places in the Valley that are much cheaper. read more

Came here with my family and my sister's family for a late lunch on the day of the eclipse. We were a party of 7 and it was thirty minutes before their kitchen closed but they were happy to seat us and we never felt rushed. They even tolerated our getting up and going outside every once in awhile to view more of the eclipse. I found this restaurant on Yelp and it was everything we expected. There were plenty of options for our crew - with breakfast and lunch items on the menu - and everyone enjoyed their food. Again, our thanks to the welcoming, attentive and friendly staff! Would definitely come again if we find ourselves once again in the area. read more

Okay so this is the first time I've made an update like this, but *maybe* it's just the way things are done here, and if it is, then forgive me. But we are back here again and when we arrived two people in our party got to the door first and let the hostess know that the remaining two adults and one child would be arriving shortly. They said that they could only seat us once we all arrived - fine, that is normal but the rest is where it gets a little strange. They asked them to wait outside in the cold. And then when we all were here including a 2-1/2 year old, we all were told to wait outside in the cold until the table was ready. There wasn't anyone else waiting so space wasn't the issue, and there were actually several tables available so there was no actual need to make us wait in the first place (or to refuse seating a partial party). If you're going to force guests to wait outside in the Mass. winter, at least do it with a smile. read more

My boyfriend and I were in the area for a wedding, and saw the rave reviews for Jake's on yelp so decided to stop in. We came here around 10:30 AM on a Saturday -- the wait was only 15 minutes, so not too bad. I got the Traditional Eggs Benedict, and oh my was it far from traditional. This was the best eggs bene I have ever had. It was your traditional eggs bene; ham, poached egg, hollandaise, atop a toasted english muffin, with the delightful addition of spinach! The eggs were cooked to perfection, and the hollandaise sauce was one of the best I have ever had. The homefries were seasoned deliciously. I loved this restaurant and the cozy atmosphere, and the food was just to die for. And for a great price. Please come here, you will not regret it! read more

I have eaten at Jake's at least a handful of times, mainly for breakfast. It has quickly become my go to spot in Northampton for breakfast. Everything I have had, both regular menu items (the downtown being a personal favorite ) and specials (pork belly anything!) have been delectable . Highly recommended read more

This was one of the best breakfasts I have had in a long time. I ordered the Coolidge and that is probably the best $8 I could spend in the morning. A small and compact space, but the service was fast and the building has a nice charm. The eggs were perfectly cooked and their idea of adding kale and tomatoes was delicious. The home fries had a nice char on the outside and they bread was the perfect finish. I recommend everybody to try this place. read more

Solid breakfast place, daily hash browns are fire. The place can be a bit crowded due to a size of it, but other than that everything is good in my book. read more

My fiance and I have brunch here most weekends. In my opinion, best eggs benedict in the area. I almost always order off of the specials menu and I have not once been disappointed. When friends come to visit, this is where we take them. Sooo delicious. read more

El paso ranchero was the best breakfast I've ever had. Banana pancake was also superb. We stop here on the way up to VT during breakfast hours for a to go order to eat in the car.. I can only imagine how it would have tasted if we had eaten in. (but the line was crazy! tons of people were waiting outside in the cold... for good reason) read more

Love Love LOVE Jakes! I wish it was open for longer hours that it is though. The homemade hash is delicious. The Mimosa's are refreshing! We had a truly memorable breakfast there this morning. Wonderful food. We had been there five years ago, when it was called "No Frills Dining" or something. It's new management now, though, and you can *really* tell the difference. Nice, clean, laid-back atmosphere. Wonderful service. And, again, the food was just simply amazing. We strongly recommend, the Baystate Burro, the Country Benedict, the cornbeef hash and the jalapeno cheese grits. Definitely coming back. Multiple times! read more

I just happened to be in North Hampton and before leaving, wanted to grab a quick breakfast. I went with three other friends and the minute we sat down, we were greeted by prompt and friendly service. The food quality we received was top notch and overall, it was one of the better breakfast experiences I've had in my life. I ordered the home-made buttermilk pancakes with fresh pears on top and it was absolutely delicious. My entire group of friends were very satisfied with their dishes and fresh ingredients. Next time I am in the area, I would definitely revisit this place. It was excellent!! read more

Jake's is the BEST brunch place in Northampton. Jake's Eggs is my favorite dish and it's only $7.50. Hot chocolate and cappuccinos are very good too. The Downtown is also a very popular egg dish, if you like things mixed in your eggs. read more

Damn fine spot. Not going to fault it for being too busy. Staff are off the hook nice. Like very friendly and on the ball, and always making a good recommendation. You'll get enough coffee for a week here and be awfully productive after breakfast. The fans on the ceiling make sure your clothes don't stink. Seating is a bit tight but the vibe is always good. Great breakfast place. Contrary to most other places, the staff here care about the costumers, do not take comments personal and try to make it a good experience. I am not a fan of the decor although most would say it has the New England charm. We built or own omelette which turned out to be very tasty, we also bulit banana walnut pancakes which were to die for. The table next to us ordered, I believe, the El Passo and the egge benedicts which really looked good, and we're definitely trying them next time. All in all a great experience. read more

Not often does a really good restaurant get better but Jakes has gone from four to five stars. Since my last rating, I've found the food to be constantly fantastic at this humble little breakfast and lunch place. This is my new favorite breakfast place when I'm passing through Northampton. A little cramped, but adorable breakfast shop right off the strip. Have you asked about their hash of the day? Do it, it'll probably be delicious. Lately I've been on an Eggs and 'Bakey' Burger binge, but I wouldn't shy away from any of the omelets, those are tasty too! It gets busy, but the service here is friendly and fast. Coffee gets an honorable mention too. I've got nothing but love for Jake's. read more

Against the suggestions from trusted friends, I decided to check out the "new" place. The menu, small and boring. The atmosphere...bland and childish. (See: Disney montage music) It took me close to ten minutes to get even a drink order in an empty restaurant with three servers. This should never happen. I ordered the burger with standard adjustments: pink, lettuce, tomato, mayo and onions. I figured why not start at an easy place where it is hard to fail. Boy was a I wrong. For starters, they "hand rub" seasonings onto the patty. Way too salty. Covered up any other tastes that might be there. The patty was large in size compared to other Northampton restaurants. The chips...might as well call them breadcrumbs. But, the thing that upset me the most. Hidden charges. No where on the menu does it say "one small slice of tomato - $1" One dollars?!?! For a small slice of store bought tomato? That was crazy! When I mentioned this to the server, she pretty much dismissed my concern for this and told me it was standard procedure. The old Jakes didnt do this. This also didnt charge 7 dollars base and tack on extra prices. Maybe Im just knitpicking but Jakes has let me down for the first...and last time. read more

My boyfriend and I were in Northampton for a day and looked up diners on yelp to find a place to get a quick breakfast. Jakes was the closest "diner" listed near us and what a pleasant surprise this was. From the moment we walked in there was a welcoming atmosphere from the staff and decor. Our waiter was da bomb. The place was busy when we got there and quickly filled up with patrons and early lunch breakers durning our duration there, however our waiter always made sure our coffees were full- which was MUCH appreciated from two sleepy scrantonians. He also brought over FREE delicious bread with homemade berry jam. Who even does that? We love you, Mr. Waiter. I don't remember the name of what I got but it's the first thing on the breakfast menu and was probably the best breakfast I've ever had. No lie. It was scrambled eggs with roasted mushrooms and onions, and omg my mouth is watering just thinking about it. When I ordered it without bacon, Mr. Waiter offered vegan sausage which was such a nice thing to me, being from an area that is not veggie/vegan friendly. (I did deny the sausage).The breakfast potatoes were perfect, a specimen that should be studies by culinary students. My boyfriend got pancakes and said they were the best he's ever had. We didn't eat for the rest of the day from being so stuffed from jakes. Sorry for the long review, I just think I'm in love with you, Jake's. read more

Jake's is the go-to place for breakfast in Northampton after a long night. You can always count on the coffee and various breakfast items to have quality. I went here for the first time and had pork belly hash and a coffee. The coffee was not of high quality and the required sugar, which I usually don't drink with my coffee. I would never order the hash again, it was weird with the carrots and other veggies in it and the pork belly was just alright. My partner had the country style (something like that). A cozy but not overly small space with a clean and open layout. A good view into the kitchen from the counter lets you watch the southern-inspired breakfasts cook. They're friendly and accommodating and the menu is priced competitively for NoHo. Rotating specials like poached pear French toast or a staple like enormous egg sandwiches. Just had the absolutely best brunch in NoHo. Had the hash of the day; loaded chili with eggs. It was nice blend of chili flavor without it being overwhelming. Eggs were fresh done just right. I dropped into Jake's on a weekday morning at 7:00 AM. Not only was my timing perfect (it was just me and the businessmen), but the food more than lived up to my high expectations. The set up of the restaurant is pretty awkward and tiny, but the food is great!! Best breakfast food we have found in the area. Make sure you go early or the line is out the door and there's no indoor waiting area. read more
