​A group of us trekked out to Prairie Village to test drive Taco Republic. First impressions? The place is spotless, super spacious, and the staff actually seemed happy to be there. Service was prompt and friendly, which is always a win. ​The Spread ​I opted for the 3-Taco Meal ($13.99). Honestly, not a bad price point considering it comes with sides of rice and refried beans to round things out. ​The Sauce & Chips ​The chips were exactly what you want: light, crispy, and dangerous. The salsa situation, however, required some DIY chemistry: ​Mild: Perfectly fine. ​Hot/Spicy: This one was a bit weird--it tasted like "flaming hot ketchup." ​The Pro-Tip: Mix the mild and hot together. It creates a nice combo that adds a kick without searing my soul. ​The Taco Lineup ​Tecate Barbacoa: Beer-braised brisket. The flavor was definitely there, but the meat was just a tad on the dry side for my taste buds. ​The Jorge: Blackened shrimp and crispy pork belly. The shrimp was spiced beautifully, but the pork belly was a bit on the chewy side. Still edible and tasty, but needed more "crunch" and less "tug." ​Baja Fish: The winner. The fish was flaky, tender, and perfectly cooked. It played incredibly well with the other ingredients. ​Clutch Move: Order a side of the avocado salsa. It's the MVP that helped elevate all three tacos. ​The Liquid Gold ​I also took down a Blood Orange Margarita, and honestly? This silver tequila was a silver lining. Balanced, refreshing, and dangerous. ​Overall: I've had better tacos across the city, but this is a very respectable 7 out of 10. Welp, Taco Republic might've redeemed itself. I had the food when they first opened over in Roeland Park, KS (now closed) back in 2020. The tacos were great, but I always wanted to go back and give them another try. I thought the entire franchise was gone until I came across this location, the last one standing. The specials they got during the week are really good. I came on a Wednesday to get the best special I feel like, which is the nacho special for $8. It was a huge portion for that amount of money, and it was great! I'm actually excited to go back and try it again. There was nobody in there, so the service was top-notch. The ambiance of the restaurant, again, is empty when nobody's there, but I like it that way. read more

First time trying Taco Republic. Inside seating area reminds me of a tropical restaurant with wicker style furniture. Looks nice but the place seem like one of those fast makeover cheaply done . The floors was buckling on the way to the restroom. We ordered their street tacos. They were okay. Nothing too spectacular. It was reasonable price. I think they have all day special on Tuesday. Initially I was going to order online but had a question about the menu, so I decided to order in person instead. While the staff was able to answer my questions, I did notice when they entered my order that the price was different than online. For some reason, online order is cheaper for the exact same item. They also messed up my order but luckily corrected it after I brought it up. Overall I paid $12 for my to go burrito bowl, which was smaller than Chipotle and not any better tasting. I enjoyed my experience here. I came for a happy hour Patron event and was surprised by the ambiance! They did a remodel of rhe restaurant and it is nice! There is an outdoor patio with the vertical fire pit and a place to play bags and take pictures with the neon sign. They had live music which was nice! My drink came in a cute container and the drinks were all spot on. Well balanced, accurate flavor description, and right amount of strength. I ordered the quesabirria and they were great. The sauce was delicious and the quesabirria had that pull apart cheese. I imagined them to be a little bigger but it was easier to dip and hold together this way. I also had churros and you cant go wrong. Hot chocolate was served on the side so there was lots of dunking! They catered for a film set that I was on, and holy moly!!!! this was the best tacos i've ever eaten in my life. they changed the full atmosphere on the set, bringing up all of our spirits. Steak taco was street taco style, with good steak, a nice slice of avocado and even better with their served-with-the-chips salsa. Bland. Simple as that. Everything here is bland. The salsas are lifeless and boring. The tacos are somehow flavorless despite the range of toppings. Dry Barbacoa, shredded chicken that is mushy, and the chips are nothing like they were at the old location. Service is friendly but feels ingenuous. Ambiance is bland. Even the music, the greatest hits of the 80s, were bland. The shrimp and pork belly taco was quite nice. I will just get three of those next time. read more

I'm very disappointed. My son had and altercation with a customer. 1 and half weeks ago. They let him get to work today. Just to tell him he's fired because of that. They had all weekend to call him. This spot is a good balance of fast casual and dine in. The environment almost feels like a fast food chain, but the vibes are elevated, there is table service, and a full bar. The food here is centered on tacos, as you'd expect. They have a great variety, and the prices are good if you do the 3 taco plate, which includes rice and beans for $12. They also have bowls and salads for a little more money, and a couple of specialty plates. Alcohol prices seem a little high for the place, you're going to pay inbetween $10-15 unless something is on special. Notably the salsa here is really interesting. I like it, but it is definitely different. It is kind of sweet and fruity, but still blended and tomato based. Shout-out for some solid vegan and gluten free options, with a menu that calls these options out. Overall, good go to, no frills spot, but not a new favorite. read more

Not sure why the low reviews, we have never had an issue with this location or service. We typically will grab the $30 (10) ground beef taco packs and enjoy at home with our own Queso or guac. My soft open dine-in lunch experience was okay, with fine service and okay tacos at a premium price. My order was served just nine minutes after I ordered at the table, which gave me time to enjoy the complimentary chips with delicious, medium, chunky salsa. Orders of three tacos come with small sides of ranchero beans and cilantro-poblano rice, so I ordered three tacos at about $3.75 each. The tacos had fair amounts of meat (the chicken being especially premium and tasty). The beans were good, while the rice was fluffy and moist - nice. I liked the polite, attentive, efficient service. This location has a full bar (with happy hour M-F 4-6 pm), a basic fast food style dining area, and a patio (partially covered). Overall, just okay for the price. read more

Had gift cards to use for this group of restaurants and until now had only tried BRGR so last night we tried out Taco Republic. As with BRGR I was kind of torn on how to review because I feel like these restaurants are a little pricey. So let's start with the ambiance. There was a very nice patio area to eat at but we stayed indoors cause it was just a little chilly although there were more people eating there than inside. The decoration inside and out is done tastefully and the music really set the mood in a good way. The service. Our server was on her first night and honestly she did an ok job but you could tell she was a bit nervous. Nonetheless, the manager ended up waiting on us mostly and she was outstanding, going out of her way to ensure we were taken care of. The food. I got the shredded chicken nachos, my wife ordered the 3 chicken taco plate that came with rice and beans. We were also served chips and delicious salsa before the food arrived. My nacho's were delicious! My wife's tacos were on soft shell and delicious. The beans served with her meal were not hot and the manager replaced them immediately with an even larger portion. there was a nice little bar inside also if you wanted any alcoholic drinks. Would it be my first choice for mexican food? No. Is it a cute relaxing kind of quiet and laid back place that is close by and probably good to go to for a meet up with friends for some drinks and food? Yes. Taco Republic offers a diverse range of flavors stemming from the tacos to the margaritas. We ordered the nachos to start with. For our entrees we got the chicken enchiladas and three tacos. The tacos we tried were the carne asada, al pastor, and Jorge. The carne asada and Jorge were very tasty, but we were unfortunately let down by the al pastor taco. It was very dry and did not have much flavor. It was definitely missing a sauce and the pork itself was even dry. We were honestly surprised because the first two tacos we tried were delicious, along with the chicken enchiladas and the nachos. The nachos were one of my favorites I have had in a while. The queso is very good and the pickled onions, chicken, cilantro, and black beans all go so well together. I would come back again just for the nachos. The chicken enchiladas were good and not too soggy from the sauce. The sauce is smoky and the chicken is flavorful. The corn pico de gallo adds a nice balance to the smokiness of the red enchilada sauce. If you wanting margs to go with your meal, I could recommend the blood orange or strawberry margarita. The blood orange was the favorite though as the fresh blood orange juice really stood out and was super refreshing. The atmosphere is fun and nice while the service was fast, although it was not crowded when we went. I will be visiting again and will be getting the nachos and trying some more tacos from the menu! read more

Taco republic is definitely on my go to places! I went for the first time and had a wonderful experience. I'm always on the lookout for delicious nachos and let me tell ya folks..... they SERVED. We ordered the chicken nachos and it was smothered in Queso and loaded with so many toppings. I had an amazing bite every time! We also got the street tacos and they were cooked perfectly. The service was incredibly quick considering we went on a Saturday night. Everything went without a hitch. The server let us take our time and was really patient with us too. Being a fan of the Taco Republic on 47th and rainbow, I was in the neighborhood of 83rd and Mission and so I decided to pop in. The best thing about being in a very family oriented neighborhood on a Friday night was that EVERYONE wants a table for their kids and NOBODY wants to sit at the bar. I had the bar to myself! YES! The restaurant was about half full at 5:40 and 3/4 full when I left about an hour later. The service includes free chips and they are some of the better ones in the city. They are deep fried and tasty and come with a good salsa. I got a drink special, a house margarita that is the equivalent to almost two house margaritas, and it was a good deal at $10. It was fairly strong, unlike the one I got at Tequila Harry's a couple of weeks ago. The taco's were 3 for $13 and I got the Barbacoa (beef), Al Pastor (pork) and the Jorge (Pork Belly/Shrimp). They were of good quality but I was not a fan of the flour taco, which is what is being served more and more often. Are we corn-phobic here? The total meal came out to $30, including tax and tip. The tacos' were a bit hit and miss. The barbacoa and al pastor used a good meat but the barbacoa was a bit dry and the al pastor did not have as much flavor as I was expecting. The Jorge was fantastic though. The problem is that these neo-mexican places are cool but overpriced and that prevents me from giving it a great score. I guess they have to make up for being in an expensive area of town. However, I still recommend this place. I like it better than Mission Taco, of which makes a slightly better taco, but is as expensive, did not give any free chips and their margarita was noticeably weaker. read more

I visited after seeing there were a couple vegan taco options available. The tacos were pretty good. The service was quick, though it was quite slow at around 3pm on a Saturday. There are multiple seating options depending on the vibe you're looking for - a nice outdoor patio section available, some bar seats, and regular tables. The one thing that was a little ehh for me was the salsa and chips. I recall the chips being quite greasy and the salsa being bizarrely sweet. Definitely different, others might like it, and I did get used to it, but not my preference. read more

I got the chicken bowl which is fairly plain but a good mix of fresh flavors. Who is leaving the reviews!?? Had some of the worst food I have had in a long time! 3 tacos- carne asada- was so salty you couldn't eat it. Jorge- it was fair and cold Babacoa - took one bite and couldn't eat it. Absolutely awful. The queso and chips were ok, Margs ok but grateful it was happy hour. Service was bad as well. I eat here frequently. They have great gluten free options and it's kid friendly. The local popsicles are also a family favorite. My last visit, my server-Tate- was so attentive and kept my chips and salsa full. He had great recommendations for food and was easy to talk to. Five stars! read more

We came here for happy hour on a Friday. Their happy hour deals are fantastic! $2 queso, $3 guac, and $6 for 3 beef or chicken tacos. Everything came out quickly and was pretty tasty. We will definitely be coming back here for happy hour, especially since we live close by! read more

My wife and I thought we would give this new location of Taco Republic a shot and boy it was a mistake. The chips were stale, we ordered drinks a beer and a margarita (the margarita was the best part of the meal) 10 minutes later our drinks show up. At the time our drinks show up we were able to order and 35 minutes later our food finally shows up. My wife ordered the chicken enchiladas and I ordered a barbacoa taco, shrimp taco and an al pastor taco. All of the food came out cold every taco every enchilada was cold and not room temperature but cold. When I asked the waitress about it she said our kitchen was busy so they may not have warmed up the tortillas for the tacos. There was no I'll get you a manager take care of it nothing. So needless to say we had bad food bad service so Taco Republic we will never be going back. read more

Always happy to have another Mexican restaurant nearby! We went opening weekend and Taco Republic was packed. The bartenders and staff did a pretty good job of keeping up with orders, wait lists, etc. The option to get flights of margaritas (frozen or on the rocks) was another plus. Very solid drink menu, good chips, and good queso... about all a man could ask for! We'll be back once the craziness dies down a little. read more

Great place. Good service, sweet waiter. Love the kitchy fun use of the retro looking booths added to great Spanish art and cool light fixtures and bar. I can appreciate how hard it is to hire staff right now and they did a great job getting it done. Patio is great. Fun way to transform a fast food joint without overspending and making it work. Honestly, this place is just gross. I ordered an iced tea which obviously comes out of a soda machine/gun. It's not that hard or costly to make iced tea. So I swapped that back for a Diet Pepsi. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and elotes. The chicken quesadilla was texturally awful. Soft, squishy tortilla; the soft, squishy shredded chicken; the bland, flavorless cheese. I don't know who created this, but it's terrible. And the elotes are obviously made with not-fresh corn. My guess is that the corn is frozen and thawed -- it's not crunchy, fresh, sweet corn like you'd get on the streets of Mexico. It's squishy corn that sticks to your teeth. Don't go here. Disappointing. My husband and I went for a margarita at the bar. Woof. It feels like Arby's with teal and tacos. I was very underwhelmed by the ambience. The floors and finishes were super cheap and the entire staff was congregating around the bar talking about work drama louder than any customer. With that said, the chips/salsa and margaritas were delish. If they could fix the structural mishaps and have an area for staff behind the scene, I would give a much better review. We happily welcome Taco Republic to our neighborhood and hope they can get their act together. read more
