Was excited to try this place out with my family - especially after seeing the reviews that they received here on yelp. I was disappointed on the quality of the food. I ordered a nachos with carnitas, not too much meat for starters and I had to search high and low for the beans. Chips are not firm and crunchy to withstand the other ingredients that they also put on. Other family members dishes were nothing to rave over either. Food was bland and tasteless. My friend told me to come to this joint since I am new to Modesto and that I am Asian! First time I came here, the food was delicious - very flavorful and their tacos were like a mini burrito with chips and salsa (a bar of salsa to choose from). So I figure this will be my spot when I crave for Mexican food. Anyways, I came back again and this time on an Ash Wednesday just because the family wanted to eat fish taco. Came back from Mexico craving Chilaquiles & came here & got them with green sauce....sooooo dang good. Super crispy, green sauce is A1, good portion & comes with rice & beans. Only thing is it takes a little longer to make (which I don't mind with them being this good, around 20+ minutes) & can only order them until noon (I'd easily come in here to eat them for dinner not gonna lie). Haven't had any as good as this anywhere else, way worth it. They easily rivaled (if not possibly beat) all the different chilaquiles dishes I've eaten in Mexico. So so so good! read more

Things have gone downhill a bit. The AM shift is subpar. The place opens at 10:00 and they don't open the doors for about ten minutes. This is the second time that happened. The pastor was not bad. Got it on a four tortilla in a "taco". I was disappointed that they used shredded cheese instead of queso fresco as in more traditional dishes. Ordered pickup through Doordash on our lunch break and everything was ready on time when we arrived! We got 4 tacos, carne asada nachos and al pastor nachos. All special instructions were followed and there was PLENTY of meat and toppings on our plates. The al pastor had grilled onions and pineapple mixed with the meat and was full of flavor! I could barely eat a quarter of them, definitely a good plate to share! They were the big nachos btw. We will def be back soon! read more

So my lil bro bro told me about this spot, he said it has one of the best fish tacos he'd had in awhile, so i had to see for myself because lets face it, lil bro bro cant know more than big bro, right?! Well he was right, (once again) it was really really good! Simple, not breaded or overdone, came with lettuce, tomato, parmesan cheese and avocado. They have a happy hour that starts at 4pm -7pm. So if you time it right you can get a damn good fish taco and a 16 oz. beer for under 5 bucks! We've been coming to Jalapeños since they opened several years ago. We actually have made it a point to drive all the way from Manteca to Modesto to come and eat at this establishment. Today we came to have lunch. My husband ordered a super burrito with al pasto, no beans. He got a burrito with carnitas and filled with beans. He approached the counter and asked the woman if he could have his food remade. She gave him attitude and my husband said "can I just get 4 plain tacos if that's easier?" And the woman, again with too much attitude, said "that'll be an extra charge". So you screwed up OUR order and my husband trying to make things easier or less inconvenient for YOU was going to cost us? No. Sorry. I hope the $2 you gave us a hard time over was worth the hundreds of dollars we have put into your business and would have continued to give to your business. Any other establishment would have been apologetic and attempted to rectify the situation. The cherry on top was the dirty look you gave us at our table behind the counter. Found ourselves in Modesto for a quick day trip. Every single taco we had from Jalapenos made our eyes wide with happiness. The flavors are so full and the meat is cooked very well. The classic tacos we enjoyed were topped with cilantro and onion. The lengua was very tender and had a super clean flavor. The carnitas were unlike any other that I've tried. Most carnitas that I have are roasted pork with simple flavors. Jalapenos carnitas left my taste buds questioning what spice combo was used to make the magnificent flavors I experienced. The al pastor melted in your mouth and had the perfect touch of pineapple. The chubby taco is more of an American style taco topped with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. I really liked the thickness of the chubby taco shell and the corn flour flavor that it brought. There's a full salsa bar. We had the avocado salsa verde, and a couple of the salsa rojas. They all brought a nice kick of spice and the perfect blend of flavors. I will definitely be coming back here next time I am remotely close to Modesto. read more

What has happened to Jalapeno"s? Is it under new management? I have been going to Jalapeno's for a few years now. My go to Taqueria but not any more. What was previously a 5 star was due to quality, prices and customer service. As of today, very disappointed which leads me to believe it's not under the same management. The prices have jumped up on everything, salsa not great. Asada tostada extremely disappointing. Taco Bell makes a better tostada, appearance and taste.
