3.5 stars. Gave Jalsa another shot since so many people say it's great. I wouldn't go that far, but it was definitely better than my first visit. They're running an October $10 lunch buffet special and there were better and more food options, so I'd say it was worth the price this time. Definitely not worth the $17 they previously charged. Food was still largely bland, with salt being the most common flavor, but a few items were tasty enough to make it worthwhile. All the Indian cuisine I've had before was spicy and/or rich in flavor; I think Jalsa is very toned down to try to appeal to the locals. I enjoyed a couple of the chicken dishes and the pasta dish was good. Adding some hot sauce gave some things a little flavor. The greeter was very pleasant and inside appeared clean. Nearly empty on Saturday at lunchtime, so where's all the people who love this place so much? read more

I was in town on business and Ordered take out here. I've been eating more Indian food lately and this did not disappoint. Mixed grill was all well cooked and full of flavor. Cauliflower appetizer was amazing. Naan bread was all delicious. Sauces were very good as well. read more

I visited Jalsa Indian Kitchen on a Saturday around 1 p.m. for their lunch buffet. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which was the only highlight of the visit. Unfortunately, the food itself was extremely disappointing. For $20 per person, I expected authentic flavors and variety, but everything on the buffet tasted bland and lacked the bold spices and depth that Indian cuisine is known for. I sampled every dish, hoping something would stand out, but nothing did. I actually left still hungry because the food was just that unappetizing. I honestly don't understand how this place has such high reviews--perhaps the regular menu is better, but the buffet was not worth the price at all. Friendly service aside, I wouldn't return for the buffet and wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a genuine Indian dining experience. read more

We found this restaurant through Yelp and are so glad. They've been open 6 months or so. We were too late for the buffet but ordered three dishes and garlic naan. They brought papadam which was our first hint the food was going to be good. The spinach dish with rice was excellent, each of our entrees had a perfect as requested heat level. The garlic naan was better than anywhere else I've tried, not too thick and great flavor and texture. The building looks great with plenty of seating, several people were picking up orders to go. Had lunch here last Thursday with my sister. We both thought the food was amazing! My sister lives in the food Mecca of LA, and has been to India, and she thought it was some of the best Indian food she ever had. I love Indian food, and often travel to Asheville for a quality Indian meal, but I thought my meal was great. We started with Samosas. They were delicious, yet unique. The shell was slightly thicker and more flavorful than I've experienced. My Dal Makhani was wonderfully flavored and rich, perfectly complemented by the garlic naan. The service was both fast and friendly. The restaurant is fairly new, and it seems the decor may still be transitioning from what it was before. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at Jalsa. I dont have a lot of experience with Indian food but I thought it was very delicious. The food starting out os mild as far as heat goes but they have several sauces that you can add on top. It was a good change of pace from the normal fast food. The server was attentive and very nice. A relatively new local Indian place. I had lamb vindaloo (medium heat) and the wife had lamb korma. Both had excellent flavor. They suggested I start with medium heat and work up, which I think was wise. Next time I'll go medium plus. And there will be a next time! Naan was also excellent. I'm thrilled we finally have an Indian restaurant in this area! We ordered take out on two different occasions and both times were excellent. The food is delicious and authentic South Indian. There are tons of vegetarian and vegan options. We tried: vegetable pakoras, samosas, samosa chat, pani poori, dal ka shorba soup, vegetable biryani, and Chana masala. If you don't eat dairy, you will need to specify that you don't want any paneer pakoras or paneer in the biryani. We ordered #2 mixed pakoras and it included a couple of paneer pakoras in one batch. The pani poori was a little confusing. It was described as fried dough balls filled with potatoes. What we received was balls similar to papaad (like a very thin cracker) with nothing inside but air and a side of various chutneys. That's the only thing we wouldn't order again. We selected "hot" for everything and it was spicy but we plan to try "Indian hot" next time. Service for takeout can take longer than the requested time so keep that in mind and maybe call to confirm your order is ready before heading out. I will start off by stating that I am a vegetarian but my wife is not. We have a difficult time going out to dinner locally to help satisfy my needs. I have really have over used the Chinese food. I have been wanting to try this place since it opened and my birthday was just the excuse to go to dinner. The place was very neat and clean and the aroma when entering was terrific. I have not had much experience with Indian food and have always heard it was very spicy. I like spice but not when it overpowers the flavor of the dish. Anyway, the servers were very helpful in selecting an introductory meal and even talked my wife out of selecting a more expensive dish, warning her of the "explosion" of spices that were in it. Everything from the complimentary wafer bread, the appetizers and the main dish were excellent. This is a place that needs to be patronized. I hope they are around for a very long time.
