3rd time hiring Jamar Power systems to replace / repair my existing system. After installing a new monitoring system, It was verified that my LG 280 panels were only producing at the most, 100watt/hour per day. All 20 of them. I hired Jamar power systems to install a new system to repair my old system which broke down after less than 10 years of service. I hope my new Q-cell system will last me over 20 years. Clay, Camillo, and Tory showed up at 7:45am sharp for an 8am start time. In less than 5 hours, these guys had my system up and running. Thanks to Rick, and especially Philip for working with me when my original Solar Installer refused to call me back. Sad but that's the reality with solar companies. I requested a quote for a backup battery. Jamar sent a salesman who couldn't lay out the project. They were going to send me an estimate without looking under the house or telling me where they were going to run the conduit. The salesman kept saying, "Maybe we could run it here." "Would it be OK if we drilled through here?" He had no clue and I had the uncomfortable feeling that a bunch of unlicensed people working under the owner's license were going to show up AFTER I signed a contract and put the conduit where ever they wanted. Is it too much to ask them to lay out the project in advance and get my approval BEFORE I sign an over $10,000 contract? Is it unreasonable for me to think that they would lay out the project and put all the necessary parts for that backup battery project in the truck BEFORE they showed up to do the install and that I could see the plan BEFORE I sign a contract and BEFORE they start the work? I don't want a Rube Goldberg design just because it's cheaper to send out a salesman and give an estimate based on guesses. I'd rather have than an electrician who is gointo to work on the project, lay it out and formulate an estimate. Besides, if he doesn't know where the conduit is going to be located and doesn't know how the workers (maybe there would be an actual electrician?) are going to locate the wiring into the service, how is he going to provide an accurate estimate? Or is it going to be enough to cover any and every contingency? A few years ago I wanted a heat pump. I called a company who sent out some clown who was a salesman and who was not going to work on the job. Same thing. "Oh. Maybe we'll do this." "I think we'll have to cut a big hole in the ceiling here for access to your attic." "It will take us 3 days and it will make a big mess, but we'll clean it up. And it will be $18k." I called a small family owned company that my friend had used in La Jolla. The licensed HVAC guy who was going to do the job came out and looked and gave me an estimate. And told me EXACTLY how they were going to do the job. No big hole in the ceiling - they used the hole already in the ceiling from the cold air return of the old broken furnace. They were done in ONE day. No mess. And they removed my old furnace in the attic and hauled it away - included - for $8,500. And it's worked well for three years. On this solar battery thing I have a one man show coming to look at it on Thursday. I've used him for other electrical before. I should have known to call him first because my neighbor got her entire solar system from him. He does the job himself. Alone. And he's not slow. He'll lay it out and do the job. I'll know where he's going to put stuff and where he's going to drill holes and run conduit BEFORE I agree. I don't want a bunch of unlicensed people here trying to sell me things. I don't want any unlicensed people here working under their owner's license. I don't want someone who isn't going to do any of the work guessing where conduit "might" be run. I don't want it to look worse than it has to. read more

Shortly after my review, just three months later, my inverter failed. A little disappointed that it was only 8 years old but it was still within the 12 year warranty. Jamar was fairly quick to check the bad unit and have a new replacement installed in less than a month. It seems half or more installers have gone out of business since my installation in 2015 so I'm glad Jamar is still in business and doing well. read more

I live in East County where the power is shut off by SDG&E all the time due to "high winds". My power is probably turned off about 6-8 times a year for this reason or another. Most recently it was scheduled to be off for 4 days. Luckily after 2 1/2 days, the power came back on. My home doesn't have a battery backup system or generator. So during those this time, I would sit in my vehicle and power up my kid's school chrome books and power banks so I could charge the cell phones. After this most recent power outage, I had it! I decided to get a generator. Luckily for me, SDG&E was having a $300.00 rebate on certain types of generators bought from Home Depot or Lowes. I contacted Jamar Power Systems in Santee. I have used them for many years. I first learned about them when checking the Better Business Bureau and they had a high rating (A+). I called Jamar Power Systems and spoke to Mike Baumeister. I explained to him that I had seen (on U-tube) how a homeowner hooked up a large plug outlet to his utility box and when the power went out he would shut the utility box off, plug in a cord and turn on his generator to power the entire house. Mike asked me to send him a photo of my utility box which I did. He e-mailed me back and said that they could do that project and provided a detailed list of what I would need. It was so detailed that he sent links so that I could see the photos of the items and prices. Mike recommended two of the generators on the rebate list and even told me about a local place where I could buy a specific amount of special 6 gauge wiring for the cord. After I had all the items I scheduled for an appointment. I told my next-door neighbor about this project. She who also bought a generator and also purchased the same items and spoke to Mike and scheduled her appointment right after mine. Jamar Power Systems technician Rob showed up at my home on Christmas Eve. Rob has been to my residence on prior occasions due to electrical issues that have occurred. Rob was on time and courteous as usual. I explained to him what I wanted to have done. He got right to it. It even started sprinkling toward the end of the project. I asked the electricians to take down 7 chandeliers. The antique & expensive fixtures were removed but will be replaced at a later date. The guys carefully took down the lighting and didn't break anything. The job was priced reasonably considering the delicate nature of each piece. I will call them for future work. We already gotten quotes from four different companies (two possibles, two obvious no-go's) when a neighbor said we MUST talk to Vince at Jamar Power before signing with anyone else. We were immediately impressed with Jamar: Vince outlined what he thought we needed, answered all our questions and concerns thoroughly and with great patience. We liked that Jamar has a long history in the electrical business and does not subcontract out the work, like many do. We're old enough to have seen a few economic cycles, and it seems likely that many of today's solar companies will disappear after 2016. Jamar has been in the electrical business for many years, and is likely to continue for many more. I'm a geek, and I found the technical stuff fascinating. The SolarEdge system has the advantages of both string and microinverter systems, at reasonable cost, with the MPPT work being done on the roof by intelligent power optimizers, which are very efficient (see Wikipedia on buck-boost converters for more). The optimizers feed DC power to a string inverter, keeping all the more fragile components off the roof in a more sheltered environment. SolarEdge looks to be a well-run, well-capitalized company that is likely to be in business for many years. We went with 24 LG305 panels with SolarEdge power optimizers and SE7600 inverter, a 7.32 kW system adequate to handle our pool and a/c needs. Panel-level monitoring is provided, so you can show off at lunchtime with your cellphone. Installation dovetailed perfectly with our roofer (Mark Anthony Construction and Roofing, also a class act that I highly recommend), so the whole project, roof and solar, was all done in 8 days! Everything went perfectly! Because our breaker box was maxxed out, Jamar installed an extra electrical sub-panel at no extra cost. Everything was done quickly, neatly, no muss, no fuss, and no mess. They explained every component of the system and how to operate it. Everything looked great when they finished, and of course it passed inspection. We were approved and making power two weeks from when they had started work, and less than six weeks after signing a contract, in time to turn the summer sun into money, and be grandfathered into net metering. I just can't say enough about how smoothly and perfectly everything went! We're usually a little apprehensive about home projects, but this could not have gone better! We just had an 4.8k system installed by Jamar in December. We interviewed 5 companies and are very happy with our decision to choose them. No strong selling you the product you don't want. No back or forth pricing negation game. Got the price we want first time (referral price). They delivered everything they promised: quality products, friendly personnel, best price in town, timely responses, and most importantly - within the timeframe we agreed. They show up on time every day, and planned well even for rainy days (doing wiring and inverter installation inside garage). They had very neat installation and paid attention to every details such as painting the conduit to match the color of the house. We have a neighbor started the installation same day as we did with another company. When our system already operated for more than half month, they were still waiting for inspection! I never expected the installation of our system to go in without a hitch, but from the Jamar end of things, it did. I can only find superlatives to use about this company. Their electrician Dan is the hardest and most professional installer I have ever work with. The system is up and running and keeping us in the black (financially!) in spite of the fact that I need to do some tree trimming to optimize the sun light on the panels. I don't know why I didn't write this review years ago....Jamar did a 4.8kW rooftop PV solar system for us a few years back and we've been very happy with the results ever since. They did a great job during the install including working with us to minimize the visual impact of the system. Of the 3 quotes we got Jamar was by far the best value, and they were the only installer proposing micro-inverters which really set them apart. To top it all some months after install when one of our panels failed under warranty Jamar called us within a day, diagnosed it, got in a new panel and within a week had it back to normal. We hadn't even noticed the panel went bad but they did via the online monitoring, and they handled all the warranty stuff for us, just like they handled all the state/federal rebate paperwork and so forth when we did the initial install. Just finished installation of a 4.8KW system based on LG300N1C panels and SolarEdge inverter in Carlsbad. Overall I'm very satisfied. Being an engineer, I like to research every detail, from selecting panels, inverters, mounting HWs to installation steps and materials. Vince (sales) and Rick (PM) were always patient with me. On top of that, they gave me the most competitive pricing for the system I want. Once the permit was received (which did take some time), the installation was really quick. The installer, Aaron even helped me get on the roof to take some pictures and explained how double flashing help to prevent future roof leaks. When they were done, they cleaned the area and took all the wastes.The performance of the system has so far been much better than what pvwatts estimates. Over the course of 10 months we had taken our time with many Solar Companies. From those that mailed us to those that advertised on TV. Jamar was one of the first we called; we saw their number on a building off the highway! Matt was Great no pressure sales there. He was very patience in answering all of our questions. Even months after our first meeting. He took the time to review all the other proposals' that we received from buying the system to leasing the system. After 10 months we decided on Jamar and couldn't be happier! Once we gave the Ok our system was coordinated by Rick. But I was ensured that Jamer installs these systems for other solar companies as well. You see they have no sub-contracted installers ( as other companies do and ask companies if they install the systems themselves or not) Jamar does everything from start to finish. No Middleman! So we were good to go. Install day came and the crew was on time. They were time everyday and always very professional. They even finished a day earlier even though we had 2 days of rain that would have set them back but didn't. SDGE was on time for inspection of the system and Jamar passed with flying colors. It was mapped out, installed and approved by SDGE all in 1 week's time. After having our system for 6 months we are starting to see the savings for us.
