On three different occasions I asked if they could repair something minor on my car, every time I'm told they don't do that kind of work. I brought it in for an oil change and I requested if they could put full synthetic oil in my car and the lady at the counter argued with me saying it wasn't any better than standard oil. There is tons of research saying this isn't some scam and it better for your car and lasts longer, but I didn't want to argue. read more

I just called up there as a potential 1st time customer, let the woman know who answered the phone that 6 months ago my oil caked up in my Toyota Camry, a repair shop flushed oil and I got an oil change, No problems for the last 2000 miles. Now caking is happening again, I let her know that that's what was happening again. She essentially didn't believe me and told me that the only way it could happen is if I weren't getting regular oil changes, I assured her that I get regular oil changes. Bottom line is she refused to believe me that oil was caked and hard and she would not give me a repair service date rather only a oil change service date, 3 weeks from now! I let her know that I could not then drive my car for 3 weeks then because the oil is all caked up. She didn't seem to care again because she doesn't believe me. This person needs serious customer service instruction.. I will not be taking my car there. read more

Jamco is a great repair shop! My Toyota Matrix had a "no crank, no start" issue on Sep 3. As a new resident in St. Louis, I don't have any experience with auto repair shops here. After doing some quick search online, I chose Jamco because of its high rating, although there are a couple of repair shops in my neighborhood. It turns out that I've made a right choice! I towed my car to their shop on Sep 5, and they informed me next day that my car was okay and no repair was needed. Their honesty is so precious at a time when auto repair shops tend to tout services and even rip customers off. I came and picked up my car on Sep 6, with no payment. The car worked for two days, and then the "no crank, no start" issue occurred again on Sep 8. It was Friday afternoon, and Jamco was about to close for the weekend. Heather, the very friendly lady at the front desk, answered my phone and suggested that I tap the starter a bit, which might help start the car. Unfortunately, it did not work, and I towed my car to their shop on Sep 11. In the afternoon, a mechanic called me, indicating that the starter was the problem. They quickly ordered a starter and put it on my car. I picked up the car on Sep 12. My car is running perfectly now. I am truly amazed by their friendliness, honesty, speed and fair price. The auto repair industry needs more people like Jamco guys. I will not hesitate to recommend Jamco to my colleagues and friends if their cars run into any issues. read more

Car Talk's website recommended these people as Toyota mechanics, and that is pretty much all they do. They don't do brakes, they don't do tires, they don't do body work, and the guy I talked to told me they don't flush fluids not just because they don't believe in it, but because they don't keep the machines around to do it. But, the upshot is that they are extremely specialized. They are a neighborhood mechanic that has been operating for at least a decade, and the Car Talk recommendation seems to be supported by the various awards, customer thank you letters, and Angie's List and BBB congratulatory letters posted on the wall. You have to call to make an appointment, and they seem to have a pretty tight schedule (might just be the current recession). They are a bit gruff on the phone, and even when you show up. they are competent and fair, and the mechanic (who seemed offhand to know a lot about the particulars of 97 Camrys) didn't charge me when he couldn't replicate the squealing noise I was having trouble with after driving around for 30 minutes. I am going to get a trip check done there pretty soon, and will update my review. read more

I have a '91 5-speed Toyota pickup that was popping out of every gear. Aamco quoted me $1000 to remove my engine to get to the shift fork, which is what they thought might be wrong. Repairs wound up costing me $88 at Jamco. I talked to Don on the phone, and he knew within about five seconds what was wrong with the truck and he was pretty sure he wouldnt have to remove my engine to replace the part! I had the truck towed in and within just under three hours, Don was calling me to tell me it was done. I LOVE this place and will never go anywhere else. read more

Stopped in on Friday around 12:30 with a check engine light on a 2006 Honda Odyssey. They hooked it up to the diagnostic computer to run the codes right away. Nothing wrong -- E15 gas the likely cause. Reset the light, and I was on my way in less than 20 minutes. No charge. read more

When I need anything serious done on either my 2002 Avalon or my 2004 Camry (a rarity for either), JAMCO is my first choice. In fact, The last time I was there, several years ago, my "Happy Camper" letter was still hanging on their bulletin board by the front door. I trust these guys to fix my car the first time, and to do it without $$ signs in their eyes. I once went to another (closer) mechanic with an older Camry TWICE to fix a problem with the front suspension. That business gave me all kinds of guesses, and tried to fix it by changing out parts that turned out to have nothing to do with the real problem. When I finally took it to JAMCO, they knew immediately what was wrong, and repaired it promptly. Hey, the receptionist knows twice as much as most regular mechanics about my car, and how to fix it. I could go on and on, but I'll just say that even though I live in Wildwood, it is worth the trip to JAMCO to get it fixed right the first time. I kinda hate to write this because I don't want the wait to get an appointment to go up even more, but since I own Toyotas (I'm brilliant, huh?), I don't actually need them that much, and I SURE don't want them to go out of business. Five years ago I had a transmission problem with my Honda Accord LX and took it to Jamco. They were wonderful! I will not name the company that sabotaged my car but Jamco's Mechanic spotted the trouble in less than five minutes and had it repaired in about the same amount of time. Today: I am having issues with my 2010 Honda Civic, I called Jamco and they have gone beyond the call of duty in helping me. I give them a five star rating only because there aren't any more stars to give. I recommend Jamco to Japanese car owners across the land. I cannot recommend highly enough. If you have a Japanese car ABSOLUTELY go to JAMCO!!! They are honest and wonderful people. We had literally been told our RAV4 needed a $4000 repair and was about to become undrivable by another mechanic so were looking at trading it in when a friend's Dad suggested we get a second opinion at JAMCO. Thank goodness we did. They could have told us anything up to a thousand dollars and we would have been thrilled to pay to get it repaired but instead it turned out to be small thing that we didn't even need to repair right then. I think I paid $6 for the whole appointment-the price for them to add some oil. I walked out stunned-having gone from thinking that we needed to find a way to buy a new car to them telling us our car was young and had at least another 100,000 miles left in it. They will tell you the truth: what you need to do now, what you may need to do in the future, and also what you absolutely don't need to do. They have literally saved us thousands of dollars and so much headache. It is invaluable to have an auto shop that you can trust and that's what JAMCO is. If you have a Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Acura etc. stop going anywhere else as soon as your car is out of warranty and go to JAMCO. You will be so glad you did. read more
