I have been a customer here for a few years. The service in this shop is exceptional. From the person at the front, to the sales staff, to the purchasing experience. The same is also true for service (if you need it). I have never been pressured here, but always welcomed. In the past three years, I have visited countless times. I only purchase when I feel time is right, and in those three years I've purchased only three times. And yet every time they greet me with a smile! That's the way to build a business relationship. And when things go wrong? I was recently given the wrong box for a watch I purchased at closing time. (I got the watch all right, just the wrong box.) It was resolved before opening the next day. Yelp removed my last review due to me explaining in detail a particular male person who was working there and being rude with me when I was looking into buying a 9K dollar watch. So I won't go into detail again due to yelp threatening to remove my account, but I will never shop there again due to that rude staff member and I recommend no one else does. Do not buy a timepiece here. Especially not from JP. Customer service failed to reach out to me after two days and I had to call them at end of day on the second day for an emergent matter. As soon as you mention you went to a professional watchmaker or anybody other than them, they are no longer interested in being your friend. Also keep in mind for those who are interested in purchasing a luxury watch- the plastic or silicone that makes a strap costs CENTS- but it will cost you 3, 4, $500 from them. Go aftermarket, do not be a shill to their commission. James Free in my experience is the epitome of give me your cash and go pound salt. Genesis is the way to go. read more

Good; the experience was really good! It's been YEARS since I've patronized James Free. So many, I can't recall how, or why along the way, I developed a negative perception about them. I never had a bad experience with them when I did do business with them years ago, and I can't recall anyone sharing anything negative. I dunno. Seeking recommendations for a reputable jeweler, a few FB friends recommended JF. In-spite of my hesitations I decided to give them a try. Yeah; NO idea why I ever developed a negative association! My primary reason for visiting JF was to get an updated appraisal (on a piece originally appraised upwards of 30 years ago by JF). I also needed my wedding set re-rhodium plated, and an earring post straightened. Not tremendously consequential needs, but nonetheless... Randy was a courteous and respectful professional - even upon my up-front acknowledgement of my hesitations for visiting. Within a relatively short time, my rings had been rhodium plated, earring straightened, and all jewelry cleaned. We agreed I'd return with the original appraisal as it would help streamline the process. Glad I gave them another try. read more

I was on a business meeting in Mason and noticed my new Movado watch was not working. I didn't use it for a year or so (no travel due to Covid). Stopped by this place and whoever opened the watch to replace the battery screwed up the coil. Rather than tell me they made a mistake when they replaced the battery, they asked me to come back after my meeting to see what's wrong and send it for repair. Businesses like these give everyone else a bad name. I went in for a $10 fix and lost a $1800 watch which is now trash. Horrible! read more

I'm very disappointed that the best manager that I have worked with for eight years has been let go from James Free. I went to look at rings and the employee that helped me was less than knowledgeable about the baguette ring that I was interested in. The usual manager that I trust implicitly was no longer there. I was told to come back when they were having their Christmas Open House and the vendor would be there to help me. What does that say about how much the employees know about their inventory? I'm shocked by the number of bad reviews on here for James Free with respect to customer service. I came into the store with a new Rado watch I had purchased in NYC that I needed to have adjusted. I called James Free and asked if they are able to adjust and what the charge is and they said feel free to come on in and we'll adjust it for you free of charge even though I hadn't purchased it there. Couldn't be more disappointed than how I was treated at James Free, Montgomery last week. My daughter and husband bought a $30k bridal set there in 2011. My daughter now lives out of state and asked me to take her ring in for an updated appraisal. You would have thought I was asking for the moon! The absolute worst attitudes I've EVER experienced, especially from my the lady that does the appraisals. Here's what happened almost word for word. The lady that greeted me said the appraisal lady was at lunch. Just at that time, she entered the store. Right In front of me, the sales lady said to he appraisal bad attitude lady, this guy is here to her ring RE-appraised. Miss bad attitude says in a huff- "can I at l least get clocked in?" Wow! How about saying "great happy to help, come back here and let me clock in and I'll be happy to help you. I called her out by saying that's not a very friendly attitude and, of course it went down hill from there. Also manager refused to come out, said she was too busy! Yes this place is swanky, its in Montgomery, so really you know what you're getting into. They say they have great prices.. but they're really comparable with most other places. They will take care of you here though. I'm always offered a drink or cookies when I walk in. And not just water, or coffee, or pop-although those are available- but wine or beer, or the last trip, spiced cider. Yum! And my rings always get cleaned while I'm walking around. Yeah if you show up in jeans, you get a once over, and you get hovered around a bit, but its not bad. They just want to be there to jump in on questions or recomendaions. They won't show you the cheaper counter though, it's tucked in the corner by the front door, and has some really nice pearls in it! Some of the jewlry in this place just looks gawdy, but hey people like what they like. They also do custom orders here. I was looking for a wedding band to match my non traditionaly shaped engagement ring, and they said they could do it, however, they were definitely the most expensive for simple white gold. Although of all the places that we went on the dreaded "wedding band hunt", they took the time to examine my ring, and take notes, and really ask my input. She even checked out the diamonds under their little microscope. No where else really checked on that. So yes they are pricey, it's nice jewelry. You're going to get good quality, decent service, and something really really shiny :) read more

I went to James Free Jewelers in Montgomery to have a diamond put in my wedding ring and to have it cleaned, checked, etc. Everyone there was lovely. My ring was ready sooner than expected, and it is absolutely beautiful ! M.J. was so nice on the phone, but I cannot begin to express my heartfelt gratitude to Jan. She went way above and beyond ! I walked there to pick up my ring, and I had a medical issue. My blood sugar dropped extremely low, and I was not myself when I walked through the door. Jan immediately asked me what was wrong, gave me everything that I needed to correct the problem, and then she insisted that she drive me home. I was going to call for a ride, but she had her keys in her hand and was ready to go ! So...off we went ! After I got home, I realized that I had left my blood glucose meter on the counter at James Free Jewelers. It was nearly closing time, so I planned on calling first thing in the morning. About 15 minutes later, Jan returned to my house with my meter in hand. I was stunned !! WOW ! Then, Jan called me the next morning, asking how I was !! I absolutely LOVE James Free Jewelers ! I've been to James Free a few times and the experiences have been variable. For the most part, the salespeople are knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and do not apply sales pressure. They have a large selection of jewelry, rings, and watches available. They are also recommended by several friends of mine. I have also interacted with a manager who was downright arrogant, condescending, and dismissive. He provided some info that could have been misleading if I had not done research beforehand. In the end, he gave me a quote for an item that I ended up buying at half the cost elsewhere (and with a much more pleasant experience). read more

I went to James Free looking for an engagement ring. I was greeted immediately when I walked in and was offered a beverage. Justin came up and asked what I needed help with, I explained why I came in that night and explained what I was looking for. They asked if I knew anything about diamonds, which I did not, so Justin walked me through all the details of a diamond and what to look for. After looking at bands and diamonds, we found a combination that was exactly what I was looking for. I never felt pressured or uncomfortable in my time there. After shopping at multiple Jewelers we purchased a beautiful diamond ring and setting from James Free Jewelers for my wife from the Montgomery store. Our sales representative, Maha was wonderful as was Michael the Store Manager. They both took the time to go all over the nuances of diamonds and compared several with each other to help us along the decision process. All of this was done to ensure we were happy with our selection. Maha followed up with us after we originally called the store with some questions before we came to the store. If she said she would do something she always followed up and did it. She also followed up with us after the purchase to make sure we were happy! Their inventory of ring settings were 5 times more than the other Jewelers we visited. The service plan we received on the ring at no charge when we purchased it was far superior than the others and those Jewelers wanted to charge us for it. This Jeweler knows how to treat customers. We relocated from out of state and this was our first experience with them. They have earned our business and will be back. I recently visited this store looking for diamond earrings. I was dressed very casually which leads me to believe this may have been the reason I was practically ignored by the staff. There were about 5 sales people standing around. After about five minutes I was approached by a sales person who I felt was dismissive and said to let someone know if I needed help. I've been in several other jewelry stores in Cincinnati and most will volunteer to clean jewelry, offer you a drink or will offer to be of any assistance. Wonderful shopping experience at JF! My husband was buying me a diamond ring for my 70th birthday and our 40th wedding anniversary. I had a pair of diamond earrings that I seldom wore and wanted to use them in this new ring. I was greeted by Sergio and, after hearing our plan, introduced us to Patricia, the custom designer. We sat down with both of them for quite some time and went over what I was hoping for, size, etc. She showed us the software she would be using to produce a mock-up on a 3D printer (amazing in itself!), and Sergio proceeded to find the best diamond as the centerpiece. All of this was done without calling ahead for an appointment. We returned about a week later to see the mock-up and finalize details. I just picked up my new ring which, in a word, is stunning! Patricia is a fantastic designer and kept me informed every step of the way. Both Sergio and Patricia were patient, pleasant, professional. Couldn't be happier. read more
