I saw Dr. Ting for a last minute appointment due to a sudden injury to my knee. The office staff were able to fit me in for a same day appointment, which was much appreciated. Dr. Ting was very thorough in investigating the damage to my knee. He also prescribed a very specific course of treatment and explained everything well. I left knowing I was in excellent care! Dr Ting is very thorough and thoughtful. His suggestions have helped me reduce my pain level. His prescription treatments have helped. His thoughts on further testing (if initial treatment does not improve my condition) are also reasonable and smart. He did X-rays in the office which was fantastic. Did not have to hassle going to a Imaging Center while in pain. He is a Non Operative, sports Medicine Doctor which made me fee 100 percent comfortable because it's a conflict of interest (potentially) if a Doctor is driving at doing surgery. I was referred to Dr. Ting for a swollen muscle and some pain symptoms I was having. He was an excellent doctor and did a very thorough exam. He was the most detailed physician I have seen for this issue, which was somewhat difficult for other doctors. He was able to give his opinion and diagnosis very clearly and support his findings with his examination. In the end he suggested trigger point injections which I knew I needed, but he unfortunately does not do. Although I ended up going to an excellent doctor at another office for the injections, I would still highly recommend Dr. Ting. Side-note: If you need to see him, grit your teeth and deal with the nightmare office - he's worth it. Also, his assistant is rude but just seemed over the office. I am a physician and was a patient at this facility in the past. Dr Petrie operated on my left knee in 2020. I called this practice a few days ago to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ting for possible Orthovisc injections. At the time I called I was asked whether I still had the same insurance to which I replied yes. No other issues or questions were proposed to me. I took a day off from my practice for this appointment and upon arrival and after filling out all the office forms again I was notified by the office staff that they no longer accept my insurance because it is out of state. I advised them that it is the exact same insurance I used for my previous care at this facility, they said they no longer honor out of state insurance. I would be embarrassed if my office had treated a patient in this manner. I should have been notified of this at the time of scheduling this appointment not after having cleared my schedule and waste an entire day by showing up for the visit only to be told that my insurance is not accepted. This facility should be ashamed to treat patients in this manner. I strongly recommend staying away from this office. read more

His service, friendliness & knowledge from my perspective is 5/5. Price: 0/5 Price is ridiculous at Newport Orthopedic Institute where I saw him. A 15 minute doctor face time amounted to a ridiculous $480 charged to my insurance company and X-rays amounted to $120 a pop. No way my insurance is going to pay/cover all of that. Total: 2/5 I would recommend seeing him only if money is not an issue to you. Or you believe your time & money is better spent seeing Dr. Ting than another potentially just as knowledgeable doctor. read more

Dr. Ting gave my Mom a Synvisc shot in her left and then right knee. My mom expressed that she was in significant pain each time and thereafter with the long needle he used to push into the knee space. Doctor did not use lidocaine first to numb the area because he said he does not believe in the use of lidocaine. With his left hand he used the cold spray bottle and sprayed it onto my mom's left knee while with his right hand with the needle/syringe in the right hand, he jabbed it into my mom's left knee. How could you use both hands at the same time? Not effective technique at all! The spray bottle was not spraying out accurately. It was probably all for show. He did not even ask if my mom was numb. He did the same thing to the right knee without any explanation why the spray cold bottle was not adequately spraying out. Imagine holding a spray bottle that is almost out of its content and then you spray it on a skin surface but it bounces off immediately. Nothing sticks! He never explained why he hurt my mom so much with his techniques and he simply does not care that his client was in so much pain. No explanation and no empathy. My Dad was horrified seeing the pain my mom went through. This was not my mom's first knee injection but with this doctor it was the first time. This doctor really delivered top notch incredible pain. And, you think he was supposed to help with pain management. My Dad is scheduled to see Dr. Ting for the same synvisc shot but my father does not want this doctor 's "sloppiness" and now has resorted to seeing another doctor. read more

James Ting at NOI (Newport Orthopedic Institute) is great. I needed Orthovisc in both knees - Dr. Ting places the needle with high accuracy - with pain killer :) - by using ultrasound. Nice guy, direct and to the point, and places the Orthovisc where it's supposed to go. I have no idea how one injects it without actually seeing where the needle is going, like Ting does. First injection - first time no pain in six months in either knee. I kid you not. If I was Catholic, I'd put him up for sainthood, actually both of 'em. Patron saints of knees, still living, and right here in Newport Beach.... how lucky can one get? Anyway, I came to see Dr. Ting after Dr. Gazzaniga recommended him - after having had left knee surgery from another practice and doctor, Venuto, for a torn meniscus and some problems with arthritis. Still had a pain all the time and Venuto, although saying he wanted to do Orthovic, he kept asking to schedule the right knee for surgery first, while the left was still f----d up. I was getting "bad vibes" from Venuto, who seemed more interested in cutting, so I headed over to Gazzaniga at NOI. Glad I did. Gazzinga, and Ting agreed, and said they were not surprised about the continuing pain because knee surgery was going to do absolutely nothing for the underlying arthritis pain. And unless the torn meniscus was causing problems, locking or other things, then fuggitabout it. I've had my third shots of the series in both knees and feel pretty darn good. Bottom line, if Ting handles your problems, give him a shot. Knee saints aren't easy to find on earth. read more

Dr. Ting is one of the most genuine and caring doctors you'll find in the OC. He is very thorough with his examination. He sincerely cares about the nature of your injury and how it impacts your quality of life. He deals with injuries conservatively without rushing you to surgery. I went in for a rotator cuff injury that had been nagging me for months. He quickly ordered an MRI to discover that the tear that I had was only a partial tear. He gave me a cortisone injection and sent me to a physical therapy. I was surprised to hear that he personally called my physical therapist to talk about the nature of my injury and the details of the rehab! WOW! Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty. After a couple months of rehab and reassurance from him that I would be OK returning back to playing golf, I am please to say that I am pain free and enjoying life without shoulder pain. Dr. James Ting sets the bar at how all Doctors should treat patients. I have dealt with him on two different injuries. It took a year to solve and fix my first problem. He was systematic and determined and he never quit on me. Being his patient, he listens to what I am saying. He then breaks it down piece by piece to find the solution. I was back this week with another problem. You can sense his concern and determination to not only relieve the pain but also find a way to get me back to a pain free life without having to settle for anything less. He is also not afraid to call on one of his co docs to help problem solve. I am rating Dr. Ting as one of the top physicians at Newport Ortho. As a footnote he runs on time, and he has never rushed me out of his office. His patients are a personal concern for him and it shows in his positive demeanor. Dr. Ting is by far one of the most knowledgable doctors i know. He is very thorough in his exam and i have 100% trust in his expert opinion. I have seen him on a number of occasions.. both of which i first saw an orthopedic first and they misdiagnosed my problems. Once i started telling Dr. Ting my problem, he knew right away what the diagnosis was.. moreover, he did a few exams on me that made me feel like he really knew what was going on.. (ie he knew exactly where i'd be hurting and was able to replicate the pain). Dr. Ting is also very attentive and caring and does not ever make you feel like you are taking too much of his time. I highly recommend going to him for pretty much any joint/muscle injury /sports injury or even any injury at all.. I'm pretty sure he'd know the solution. I drove 1 hr just to see him and it was so worth the drive. I even recommended him to my dad who also spoke very highly of him.
