The minor surgery went very well, and at all times I felt that Dr. Rose and his team cared, listened, and made me feel I was under excellent care. The team is professional and caring. The orthopedic center has all the expert resources and equipment necessary to expedite diagnosis and determine procedure. The entire team at this orthopedic center in Newport Beach provides comprehensive services - so that all-in- one feeling - is truly welcomed; avoiding having to run around town for each orthopedic issue. Review for Dr. Rose's Office/front desk not Dr. Rose as I was unable to meet with him. I was a new patient with an 8:15 AM appointment. My daughter and I arrived at 8a.m, checked in and was asked to complete my online forms which I completed in 5 minutes. I let her know I was done and she said the other staff member would get me set up. We waited in the lobby for 50 minutes. During that time, every other patient who walked in after us was called back within five minutes. Eventually, I approached the front desk to ask when I'd be seen, only to be told they were waiting on me to complete the new patient forms. I had actually filled them out right when I arrived and notified the staff, but apparently, there was a lack of communication. Because of the delay, I had to leave without being seen--despite being in constant pain and having scheduled this appointment a month in advance. I also had my daughter's appointment scheduled right after mine, which we had to cancel as well. I requested my ID and insurance card back and left disappointed. Dr. Rose clearly has a very busy practice, but it's frustrating when poor administrative coordination prevents patients from receiving care--especially those who arrive on time and are in need. A suggestion for the front desk staff: If you're holding a patient's ID and insurance card, and they're expected to complete online forms, check in with them after a few minutes. A quick confirmation could avoid unnecessary delays like this one. It was very disheartening to watch every other patient be seen while I sat there unknowingly overlooked. I took time off work. Unfortunately, I'll need to find another orthopedic specialist. I had high hopes for this visit, but I left feeling dismissed and upset. read more

Dr. Rose is an amazing surgeon. I broke my wrist and I instantly knew that I needed surgery. Long story short, the orthopedic surgeon that was referred to me by the hospital, botched my surgery. About 3 months after that terrible experience, a friend referred me to Dr. Rose. It was very scary to trust another doctor with what I went through. I gave him a challenge with repairing my wrist and he nailed it! SHF Huntington Beach Getting a second opinion with Doctor Rose proved to be a very good move for me. I was in real trouble not being able to move my three lower fingers. Doctor Rose immediately identified the dying bone problem from the MRI and had a surgical remedy in mind, and on the first night after the surgery, I had control of my fingers once again. And amazingly the 1-1/2" long incision on the top of my wrist absolutely disappeared upon healing. As I was told, Doctor Nicholas Rose is the " best of the best " that proved to be true in my case. Even though I was 77 years old at the time of my appointment with Dr. Rose, I was a still professional musician working in the orchestra pit for Broadway musical in local theaters. I was experiencing problems with my right hand thumb that could only be corrected through a carpalmetacarpalarthroplasty surgery, so I made an appointment for a consultation. I brought my Xray and report and he suggested the CMC arthroplasty procedure but during our interaction he told me that "I had a good life" suggesting that at 77 I should maybe stop? Give up? Die? Working out at home, without my usual weight, benches and mats caused me to tweak my wrist. He did an instant diagnosis after reviewing my XRay and, rather than surgery, we wanted to try a cortisone shot. 3-days later and I was pain free. I turned down a second shot and am back to normal. Worst doctor I have ever seen. I went to this doctor for over 6 months now , 4 visits to be exact. He has known from the beginning I have a rotator tear and a bicep tear. He refused top give me shots or meds to help with pain. Just keeps pushing PHYSICAL THERAPY which I have already had and did not work and also refuses surgery. All he pushed is himself making money on blood injections which he makes money off of and insurance doesn't cover. 3/21/2011-8/15/2011 So my first visit was on 3/21/2011 due to some work related issues I was approved to see a specialist! My 1st visit here I waited over 2 hours to see the Dr for 7 minutes!! Outstanding doctor. Kind, thorough, great bedside manner, I just can't say enough good things about him. I had severe shoulder pain from a tear and bone spur. Had the surgery in July 2018. Did the recommended physical therapy he prescribed and now no pain and full range of motion by December 2018. I would totally recommend him. He also did surgery on my husbands severe carpal tunnel and my husband is getting his feeling back in his fingers. It's hard to find good legitimate trustworthy doctors out there but here is one! The wait was very long, the office staff were unfriendly. The whole system was harried, and beware, they don't help you figure out your insurance beforehand, and you will be slapped with a hefty bill in the mail. Good if you like the surprise factor. The doctor was not unfriendly, just pretty nonchalant and not very helpful. The whole 5 minutes he was with us, he just looked disengaged and rather uninterested. Ok to be fair, we were pretty uninteresting specimens, nothing we had on us screamed for an expensive surgery. Oh and when I called a few weeks later at 1130am, I was told it was lunch hour by a lady from some department, and to call back at 130pm. When I called back at 145pm, she said they were still at lunch and to call back at 2 pm. Now, their official lunch hours on their answering machine says 12 to 130pm. They really should change it to 'Suggested lunch hours'. No wonder they couldn't help with insurance queries, no wonder they look so harried and rushed! They spend more time out of the office than in! No 'bleep' 'bleep' wonder! There's a collection of orthopedists in this location, probably served by the same staff, so... be warned. read more

I had a significant Dupuy Trens Contracture on the small finger of my left hand, I could put my hand on a golf club, but it remained significantly curved toward the palm of my hand. It was sore and unsightly. I put off surgery as I was concerned with length of recovery and I was not sure the problem would be corrected. Dr. Rose's surgery and treatment was far better than anticipated. The finger was completely straightened. The "zig-zag" incision healed within 4 weeks and I had complete usage of my hand. I wish I would have had the surgery sooner. I cannot recommend Nicholas Rose, M.D. and his staff more highly. read more

Dr. Rose is the best! He was my second opinion after fracturing my pinkie finger. I went to another doctor who told me my option was surgery or put my finger in a ghetto wrapped splint for two weeks and see how it goes. I was horrified! So I called my husband's knee doctor, Dr. Kramer, who referred me to Dr. Rose. Dr. Rose saw the x-ray and immediately said he would not have opted for surgery on my finger. He gave me a much better splint for 4 weeks and off I went. I had hardy any wait at all. Can't wait to go to my follow-up appointment to see how I'm healing. Dr. Rose is a wonderful surgeon. Not very often do you find a doctor that has great bedside manners as well as a great surgeon. I had a procedure done to my arm by a different surgeon and then went to Dr. Rose from that point forward. He is very thorough and I never felt rushed at my appointments. Dr. Rose performed carpal tunnel surgery and then a wrist arthroscopy with TFCC debridement and removal of a plate on my ulna bone a couple of months later. I came to Dr. Rose for problems with my wrists. He diagnosed me with chronic tendonitis, and found that I had a ganglion cyst in both. My right wrist gives me the most pain and he recommended that I have it removed because it could be contributing to the pain. I asked if there were any other options to treat a ganglion cyst besides surgery. His answer was, word for word, "it's either that, or live with it." So I went ahead with the surgery, thinking that this was my only option, and wanting to get it done soon since I was about to lose my insurance. Right before the surgery, I found out that there actually is another treatment, aspiration. Instead of invasive surgical removal, they just stick a needle in it and drain it. When I asked him why he hadn't recommended aspiration he told me it was because they come back more often with that treatment. By then, with my insurance about to run out, it was too late to try that and then see if I still needed surgery. I just had to go through with it, and hope that it worked out. Well, it didn't. It still came back and now I have a huge scar, and several months of recovery that were lost, all seemingly for nothing (I still have pain). I am a musician, so a big concern of mine with surgery was the recovery time. I asked him how long it would take before I could play again, and if I remember correctly, he said about a month. Well, what he should have said was that a month was the amount of time I would have to have it completely immobilized. So after a month I tried to start playing again, but it was several months before I got back to my former ability. I thought that the information he gave me about the recovery time was a little deceiving and that he should have explained that I could start playing again after a month, but it would take several months of physical therapy to get back normal. Dr. Rose was the kind of doctor that makes you wait usually for more than an hour (sometimes 2!) and then spends about 3 minutes with you. I found myself writing all my questions down to be sure I wouldn't forget to ask something, and even then I was super nervous that I would forget something and not get all my questions and concerns addressed. The staff were just as rushed and disinterested when dealing with patients. Some of them were downright rude. The whole place seemed like an assembly line, rushing people along a conveyor belt, doling out surgeries as quickly as possible. For me, a good doctor is one who takes the time to explain to a patient all of the options and the pros and cons of each, and to take into consideration that patient's situation. Dr. Rose knew that I was a musician and that I was concerned about not being able to play for a long period of time. I also asked him directly if there were any other options, and, if you ask me, he outright lied to me about that. Maybe aspiration is not as effective as surgery, but it might have been a better option to try first for someone like me who depends on using her hands for her livelihood, and needed something with a quicker recovery time. At least, if I had known all my options from the beginning, I would have had time to think about it and decide what was best for me. Instead, I was robbed of a decision about my own body, that ended up severely impacting my life. It is quite obvious that Dr. Rose is only interested in offering the treatments that will make him the most money (surgery, after all, he is a surgeon). read more

Front office staff is rude and unhelpful. There was a small $30. discrepancy that my insurance didn't cover. They sent the bill to our old address and it didn't get handled appropriately. Should have been an easy fix, but they refused to handle it they way a quality doctor's office would. Check their policies before you get serviced. Great doctor if you like being over charged. I saw Dr. Rose for a shoulder issue. He sent me for an MRI. Read the pathologist report and sent me to another Dr. for a second option. He charged me $1200 to read what the pathologist said. Umm, I could do that. The other physician choose to read my MRI then consult the pathologist report. He charged me $270. Plus told me I didn't need surgery which Dr. Rose said I needed and PT would help which it did. Thanks for the price gouging Dr. Rose. Oh and if you're 30 days late they will send collections after you and report it to your credit score. I strongly suggest asking what the fee's will be prior to having any procedure done. read more
