I like James Perse merchandise. To the corporate office: you need to hire helpful, kind and attentive staff. The 2 women in there were awful. I was exchanging some things, and their cattiness to me was so unnecessary. The young man was very nice and kind. I won't be going back. I will order online if I want anything. Awesome staff equals a great experience, overall. They have a fantastic selection of their merch. The store is clean and nicely organized. However, their prices are ultra expensive. What can I say, it's a well-known brand, and their quality is excellent. I've never had a problem with my clothing from them, falling apart or the such. All I can say is try on their clothing in the store, and know your sizes. Their return policy is strict, so make sure you get what you want and are sure of it. I own a pair of black drawstring pants that are 4 years old, after wearing them to death, and they now have holes. I'm fine with retiring them, they were a great pair. Also, their sales are online only, and never in their stores. I've been wearing James Perse clothing for years, and I love the casual feel of them. Customer service I received was excellent! Service is incredibly slow, total space cadets. Sunshine and rainbows are on their brain and not efficiency. It took 30 minutes to do a simple return for store credit in exchange for a few Tshirts. No trying on, direct communication of what was needed. This is why people do not shop retail anymore- need to speed things up and stop with the unnecessary pleasantries fueled by commission sales tactics. It doesn't work! This review is for the online store. I tried to return an unworn pair of pajama pants I had gotten my husband for Christmas. They mailed them back to me and said they don't take back worn items. These pants were not worn, they didn't even fit! Now I am stuck with $300 PJ bottoms that don't fit anyone in my household. There are so many other places to shop with reputable customer service, don't waste your time and money here. Horrible. I buy lots of James Perse clothes. Not any more! They won't stand by there clothes. I washed a sweatshirt twice and it got a hole in the fabric. Not my fault. Over the thirty day return limit by 10 days. They said I snagged the the shirt. I did not! Never again will I buy their clothing. Too bad! read more

I am here to fairly reflect the fair rating this brand deserves. The quality of the clothing is so poor. I got a hole on my tee after first wash and my poor shirt did not even last for the summer before it ripped off. Highly overpriced brand without any quality. Be aware! This is the very first time that I have ever submitted a review on a business, however, after my latest experience at the James Perse store in Newport Beach, I felt compelled to take the time to share my experience and thoughts. My wife had purchased a birthday gift for me from James Perse, however, the color and style were not what I would get good usage from. The very next day I tried to return the cashmere sweater, (way overpriced at $400), but was told that I could only, either do an exchange for another color or receive a store credit. I did not feel like I needed another sweater and there was nothing else in the store that I wanted, so I asked for a rebate back on my credit card. I was briskly told that the store policy is for no cash credits, only a store credit. In other words, only having the item for one day and never even having it out of the box, I was now being told and literally forced to purchase something else that I did not want. My extended family and I have lived in the area for 10 years and feel strongly about supporting local businesses. We have shopped at James Perse many times and have spent a significant amount of money there, even though their prices are far beyond the quality of products that they sell. Part of the reason for supporting local businesses is a genuine desire to help the community and all the quality stores and restaurants in the area. In return, I would expect that the stores and other services in the local area provide reasonable treatment of their customers in return. I can understand and support reasonable return policies, however, a policy like that of James Perse is oppressive and shows little concern and care for the support and loyalty shown by its customers. This unreasonable approach in their return policy is also reflected in the attitude and demeanor of its in-store management. The fact that their sales manager, Laura Lund, was so dismissive and rude in the handling of this issue, I find it hard to believe that she is working in any customer service business. Her actions would be more suited for a gig in a correctional facility. I would hope that the executive management at James Perse would take a hard look at this policy and reconsider the downstream impact it has on retaining loyal customers and the effect to their bottom line. Yaaayyy! We have a James Perse store in Newport!!! It is located in the same center as Haute Cakes. Meaning, you can lunch where the cool people eat and then shop for cool stuff. It is a pretty small shop compared with some of the other JP boutiques, but who cares, I'll take it! I had great service today from a sweet girl. She ordered the top I wanted from another store, no shipping charges (thanks!). I glanced around a bit more and was THRILLED to see that many of the items were made in the USA. For a while, I saw a lot of James' stuff was made in Vietnam and that made me sad. Did you hear that James???? Bring it all back to the US! I will pay more and shop more if it is made here.
