My initial visit with Dr Sharma at The Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation was good. Dr…read moreSharma explained everything I wanted to know about my lymphoma diagnosis and expected treatment, and explained various things I didn't even know I didn't know. I really had no complaints about my initial visit with Dr Sharma, other than perhaps the office setting which is run down, located in an old part of town, and doesn't really enforce a professional medical office. My complaint is with my second visit, or should I say lack thereof. I initially had a 2nd visit scheduled for November 4th, but received a call informing me that my appointment needed to be rescheduled for November 19th. My wife and I made the almost one hour drive to the office, at which time we were told they did not have me scheduled for an appointment. The receptionist informed me that they have been having an ongoing problem with their appointment system, and it appears my appointment was never scheduled on their system or, the person that made the appointment failed to put it into the system. She then explained that Dr Sharma, my treating doctor had no availability today and another appointment would need to be rescheduled. I was initially diagnosed with cancer in May, so 6 months ago. I have had some blood tests, and EKG, a PET Scan and the chemo port put in, all which has taken 6 months to complete because it takes so much time to be able to get in to have these procedures done, even though everything was specified as a rush! The blood tests is the only thing that can be done quickly. I'm scheduled to have one final procedure done the first of next week before I can apparently begin treatment, so I was hopeful I could reschedule my appointment with Dr Sharma within one week at the latest. Well, given that every facility I've been to has treated my cancer diagnosis like it was a common cold with absolutely no rush on anything, why should The Oncology Institute be any different. The receptionist told me the earliest appointment I could get was in one month! I've been dying a slow death everyday since my initial diagnosis and now I have to wait another month to see my Oncologist! I have no idea what stage my cancer is at, or even when I'll finally be able to start treatment, but I'm sure it won't be this year! Hopefully by 8 months from my diagnosis I'll finally start my initial treatment, if it's not already too late. My delays certainly don't reflect on Dr Sharma, but having The Oncology Institute failing to put my appointment in their system, then making me wait another month for an appointment is completely unacceptable, especially for a cancer patient! This has unquestionably set back my initial treatment at least another 6 weeks. Cancer isn't a freak'n minor issue that can simply be handled like an ordinary doctor visit or rescheduling of an appointment! Waiting 7-8+ months since an initial diagnosis is far too long to wait for treatment, in my opinion. I don't know what the average wait time is, but I do know the sooner you start treatment the better your chances of full remission. In the UK, I believe treatment must begin within 90 days from when a patient is diagnosed which sounds reasonable, certainly better than 7-8+ months! I've read good information about Dr Sharma which is the only reason I'm holding off going elsewhere, but to be honest, I'm extremely upset with The Oncology Institute right now, not only for the lack of concern for me, but especially for what today's screwup did to my wife and I emotionally.

Very professional and friendly staff. I felt seen and heard, which is vital when you are dealing…read morewith Cancer and/or blood issues.
