This company used to be good in both food & service, but they have changed. I just got their Thanksgiving turkey dinner & it was pretty bad, awful flavor! The mashed potatoes were good. Their sandwiches are ok but most everything else is substandard. Once I went there by myself. The bar was full so I sat at the only free table in the back. No one came over to take my order in 20 min. I left. I'm going to stop eating here. The management doesn't care! They'll leave you standing at the front door while they're talking in the back, & with just a few customers there! read more

The food is O K, if you are very hungry, and are not a food affection-ado But whatever you order ,do not order any drinks from the bar. I ordered a Bloody Mary , which could be disguised as flavored water. Am used to frequent many Jameson Restaurants in various states, especially Illinois. Don't understand the popularity of this restaurant. Well popularity may be an overstatement, never crowded except on Thanksgiving. Guess no one in SC cooks on that day, packed and had to wait 2 hours past our reservation time for cold turkey on Thanksgiving. That was our second time there and I swore my last time. However the group we dine with prefer it and actually praise it. My 3rd time there I tried the special. Asian seafood something or other. All 4 of us got it,obviously prepared portions in a boiling bag as every dish looked exactly alike. Overpriced for what it was. My last time I got a burger and fries, what could go wrong ? Both cold, sent the fries back and got a fresh batch but the burger was already over cooked so I knew they would just nuke it and settled for a cold burger. Overpriced for the level of quality. They're significantly short staffed and the food was precooked Days ahead of time. The ribs were extremely dry, the rolls were rubbery, as though they'd been reheated several times in a microwave. Be aware that they are offering a very limited menu, so if you have your heart set on a particular dish from their regular menu, it's likely not available. We went there on Christmas Day. I decided to order filet mignon cooked medium instead of turkey. Big mistake. My steak was over-cooked on the outside and barely rare inside. I sent it back and it was mostly medium when I got it back. However, it was dry and flavorless. I've had good steaks there in the past but this was terrible. The service we had that day was also quite lacking. Only three of five people ever got their drinks refilled and the waitress started to walk away before everyone had placed their dessert orders. The desserts were kind of stale and generic, though, so we'd have been better off skipping them. My family who ordered the turkey got good meals, which is the only reason I gave this two stars instead of one. I guess I should have made them switch my order, but everyone else was already well into their meals by the time my steak came back. I just wanted to eat and not cause a scene. It certainly didn't make my Christmas a merry one, that's for sure. read more

A hidden jewel!! We stop for dinner to take a break from the long drive home. And we are sad they are not close to home. Don't let the location fool you. This restaurant is located inside a gated community, so you will have to tell guard at gate that you are heading to Jameson's. (We thought the GPS sent us to the wing direction, so we called restaurant and we were informed by the sweet hostess how to get to the restaurant) We tried a few appetizers and they were all delicious!! The crab cakes, the coconut shrimp, the fried oysters, and the shrim scampi were all flavorful and delicious! Husband ordered their French onion soup and the filet mignon. He loved it! Steak was perfectly cooked. I order their liver with sautéed onions and pilaf rice (yes!! I had to try it since I was told it was a popular dish, and I do like liver) Also the tomato bisque. I have to say the liver lives it reputation. It was delicious!!!! The prices were very good for such fine restaurant. Our waitress was so friendly! The entire staff was great!! Birthday dinner for my wife turned out to be a real bummer. We waited 30 minutes for someone to attend to us. After this, our drink order came and that was prompt. Service seemed a bit overwhelmed as many folks waiting to be attended to. Waiter took our order, I asked if the cook can do an honest med-rare, he said better to order rare to be safe. I ordered NY Strip and beef medallions for the wife. Stuffed mushrooms and french onion soup excellent, no warm bread ever made the table. Nearly an hour later the final meal was presented, both steak items were cooked well. Reluctanly spoke to the manger, she tried to make right, (applause) and apologized for the slow service and over cooked order meal. She offered the (ribeye) at no cost when the bill was presented as a make good. I informed her I did not have the ribeye... Kudos to both the waiter and the manger, however I will not go back again to this location. Just way too many mistakes for my iron clad patience level. You are better off staying home with your spouse, dogs and a frozen pizza! read more

Cafeteria Quality Food at Best! My wife and I dined, and I use that word loosely, at Jameson's Charhouse for Valentine's Day dinner. We were about to order the fish specials for that evening, salmon and sea bass, when neighbors of ours, who were finishing up eating, said they had ordered the fish specials and were very disappointed with their meal. They said they had eaten there before and were usually pleased, but tonight they received very small, dried out portions of fish. As this was our first time eating at Jameson's, we took their advice and avoided the "specials" and decided on the 10 oz skirt steak cooked medium-rare, the chops of pork cooked medium and an order of fresh calamari as an appertizer. The "fresh" calamari was a small portion, a bit more than half the amount most restaurants serve as an appetizer. The tomato sauce served with it was quite tasty, however; the squid was dry and chewy. This characteristic is typical of frozen squid, I am certain this was not fresh unfrozen seafood. Both of the entrée meat orders were overcooked. The 10 oz skirt appeared closer to 4-5 oz and was very thin with no pink coloring. It was covered with a brown sauce that was surely out of a can. The vegetables were over cooked and the baked potato was served with a very small amount of poor quality, runny sour cream and no butter. No bread and butter were served during the meal. The chops of pork were not chops at all but actually two ¼ inch slices of pork loin. These dried out "chops" do not resemble a center cut, T-bone pork chop, one would expect from a title of "chops of pork". Again, the pork was covered with the same canned tasting brown sauce. As the restaurant was quite busy, the wait staff was nowhere to be found to even ask for a little butter for our potatoes. The cocktails were just okay and they did provide one free chocolate dipped strawberry for my wife, I guess men don't count on Valentine's Day. Although I have never eating dinner in Golden Corral, it may have been a better choice! read more

The short review: Very good. Have a burger. The long review: We took guests for lunch. Sat on the enclosed porch with golf course view. We had a wonderful waitress. This is of course a steak house and the burger was just as good as it should have been! Top quality meat. Sweet potato fries were good. The fried green tomatoes were awful ! The tomato had no taste, it was barely cooked, if at all. It was served on a very small bed of sauteed spinach (the only thing about the dish which was good and it was scant.) The food is good but be aware to thoroughly check your take out order. Shouldn't be necessary but unless you want to find after you get home that they forgot the cole slaw or the soup , best you check . This happened to me twice in a row when ordering for house guests . The second time I checked a bit and the staff said yes it's all there- see this is the bag with the soup . Well , yes some soup but not all . When I called later , I was given a half hearted apology . When my house guest stopped at the restaurant the following day, she was told that one soup was sitting on the counter next to the take out bags . ?? Why wasn't it bagged ? and why when I got home that evening and called wasn't I told that ? And I even left a tip !!! read more

My waiter could not believe that my fries were delivered at room temperature. He took my plate back to the kitchen and they put the burger under the lamp and my fries back in the oil. The waiter was very nice but I just didn't like the whole process. After all I had my fingers all over the fries. I guess things don't need to change at this restaurant because they are always busy. But what would happen if they hired a better chef? They also just remodeled but it still looks institutional and the acoustics need to be improved. read more

This place is a best kept secret. My wife and I have never had a bad meal here. The French onion soup is the best I have ever had. We went here twice on a recent visit to Sun City Hilton Head. The first night we went for a drink after dinner somewhere else. I was blown away by the $5.00 martini and it wasn't happy hour. The crowd(?) in the bar, about 3 people, were very friendly and chatty for the most part. My husband and I are checking out this community for our future retirement. One of the patrons cautioned us to be sure we wanted the active lifestyle. We chuckled when we got back in our golf cart to go back to the house we rented. We are definitely more active than he looked. And that is exactly why we were there checking it out. The second time we went was to have dinner and check out the food. We were not disappointed, nor were we wowed by the food. It was average. We would eat there again, but wouldn't call it a special occasion restaurant. The server was super sweet and very helpful. The portions were large and the price was very good for anyone living on a fixed income. One more thing: Even though this restaurant is in a gated community, it is open to the public. Also, it has a nice golf course view and is very relaxing to have a drink at the bar, and frugal! read more

We were at Jamison's in Sun City Del Webb HIlton Head last night. They have a female bartender that I have never liked her service but last night was terrible. We got there about 5:45 and got our drinks in just a few minutes and ask for menus as the same time. We had to ask again for menus and never got them from her so male server that was working the tables ask if us if we got the menus and yet and when told no he gave us some. We waited a while for the bartender to take our order which was just a cup of soup, sliders and a taco all happy hour appetizers. After a long wait and still no food we ask her to check our order. She came back out and said there was a party of 40 in the main restaurant and they were behind. My husband told her to cancel the order and we would pay for what we got which was the and our drinks. Well after that all of a sudden the sliders were done which were cold yet she insisted they just came out the kitchen, and she gave me someone else's meal. I have a habit of making sure I touch the food if I have bad service and get the wrong meal. I put my finger on the food and told her that this was not even my order. She took my plate and the served it to the woman that actually order it. We cancelled our order and on our way out told the woman that I had touched that plate that had been given to me first. I think Jamison's has much better staff that people serve customers better and yet this woman is behind the bar most of the times we go there which is usually on a Friday or Monday when we do go. read more

No water, no comment letting us know that someone would be over to take our order. And all the while only three tables were filled on a Saturday night. That says it all. Sorry, I have to report the facts; no opinions. Made a reservation for six, plus two highchairs for the munchkins. Were assured of no worries. Before we were seated, we were advised by the hostess they had only one. Well, after seating, we ourselves made a deal with another family and managed to get the second one. This took time, maybe 10-12 minutes, during which we were attended by no one; no water, no attention whatever. Oh yeah, the place was about half full and there were 4-5 servers that we could see. Then, it got worse. Finally got some water and submitted our orders from the menu. Food was served maybe 20 minutes after that, although the server did mention a couple times that it was "being prepared". One of our party ordered the 10 oz., center cut sirloin. When it arrived, she made a cut and discovered, although pink in the center, it was way tough. The server acknowledged and substituted another choice from the menu. Unfortunately, this again took about 12-45 minutes to be served, so everyone was totally finished with their meals. BTW, the place cleared out pretty good about halfway through, so it seemed staff was capable of better service. Other than these issues, the food was acceptable to all. The entire "experience" took about 1.5 hours. Whew! Sadly, we really cannot return to this location again. Maybe if things improve. This restaurant just opened last Wednesday at Sun City Hilton Head, but since they have several restaurants in the mid-west, we felt they must be ready for "prime time". Unfortunately that is not the case, or we just expected too much. We had been occasional patrons of the prior restaurant at the Hidden Cyprus Golf Clubhouse, and enjoyed the decor, menu, and staff. When Jameson's took over the food service contract, and the facility closed for renovations, we were anxious to try the new venue. Therefore, we went today, with another couple for lunch arriving around 1:45. It left much to be desired. Jameson's does not take reservations, so we thought lunch might be better than dinner to avoid a long wait. We were placed on a list and advised it would be around a 15 minute wait. When it was our turn to be seated, we were escorted to the porch area which can be loud with golfers sharing stories at the 19th hole. First, there is no ambiance to speak of. The main dining area has wood floors, and is sparsely set with tables and a few booths. Since we were seated on the porch overlooking the golf course, and only walked through the main dining area on the way out, there was nothing to hint of a decor and no atmosphere whatsoever. After being seated, we waited for a server. Although specials were written on a blackboard standing on the floor at the entrance, there was no mention of these selections by our server. All specials were fish, and ranged from $15 - $18. Their menu is one side of a laminated oversized sheet, and the menu is the same whether it is lunch or dinner time. Our group of four ordered, the salmon special, baby calves liver with bacon and onions, a half rack of baby back ribs, and shrimp Alfredo, and 3 iced teas. All entrees came with soup or salad, a starch and vegetable of the day. The soup of the day was split pea, and you had your choice of fried or baked potato (mashed was only available for dinner) or rice for a starch, and the vegetable was green beans. The liver and ribs were presented as a Jameson Special and were priced at $13.95, while the shrimp Alfredo was $15.95 and the salmon $17.95. After taking our order, our server returned with 3 warm rolls, with the comment that when more were heated she would bring another, and our teas. At least 20 minutes later the soup and salad arrived. The pea soup was rather thin and the salad was nothing special with some of the greens slightly wilted. It looked like what one would take out of a bag of cut salad that had sat in your refrigerator for a couple of days. Each salad had an oversized cherry tomato and lots of shredded carrots. Then, just as we started our first course, the entrees arrived. The salmon was of average size, and the rice did not look seasoned at all, not a rice pilaf. The baby calves liver was overdone and dry, although requested to be cooked just to a medium standard. That was a disappointment. The ribs had very large bones compared to the baby back ribs I have had everywhere else in the States. The rub was adequate and had just the right amount of sauce brushed on for added flavor. The Alfredo looked to have native shrimp which is good because we are currently in local shrimp season, but the Alfredo sauce was very bland and pasty tasting. The French fries were thin with a bit of peel on them, and if served right away after being fried would potentially be good and crispy, but they were a bit soft. Mustard and Catsup was brought to the table with our 3 rolls (the 4th never arrived), but I had to ask for vinegar, and had to wait. Then the fellow delivering the malt vinegar seemed to want to sprinkle it on my fries and take it away, until I took it from him. He then wanted to know if I preferred red vinegar. The green beans appeared to be frozen, were barely heated and were soggy. Since eating ribs, especially those with little meat is difficult with a knife and fork, I used my fingers. When it was time to wrap up leftovers and get our tab, I asked for a wet wipe, and was told they do not use them. They could bring me a small napkin moistened with warm water and lemon, but with the slow pace of service I felt it better to go to the ladies' room to wash my hands. Overall, we were not impressed. Will we try it again? Maybe for a hamburger or sandwich, but not for a dinner. We will go outside of our community, and it is fortunate that we have a variety of good restaurants in the immediate area. read more

So very disappointing and continuing to go downhill. We had waited with high hopes for a good restaurant to re-open, and had heard good things about Jameson's. Before Jameson's had officially opened the Hidden Cypress location, we'd tried their burgers in the lounge and were very pleased. HOWEVER, since then, we've given the restaurant 4 tries, hoping we were wrong about the very poor quality food and, with a couple exceptions, equally poor service. To add to the frustration, Jameson's now also runs the other restaurant in Sun City, and alas, this too is beginning a downward spiral. Again, as with the Hidden Cypress venue, we've tried several times to change our minds about the inconsistency of Okatie Clubhouse. But, as we experienced yesterday, when the soggy tuna panini and frail, tasteless French onion soup was served, we have just accepted that Jameson's will hopefully run its course soon, and be gone. We have tried, patiently and politely, to explain our impressions and suggestions to the management and staff, but nothing positive has changed. We understand that good chefs are essential to good food. But we also know that they exist in this area in abundance. Like many Sun City people who love eating out...and do ...very often, we have frequented many restaurants in the area and Savannah who benefit as a result. The nearest one, just outside the gate, can attest to that. Even though Okatie Ale House has a predictable fare, they serve to a full house daily, thanks to the poor quality of Jameson's and consequent frequent patronage (and $$) of Sun City and area residents. These are our views. And we prefer to speak for ourselves only. Moveover, we'd hoped we are the exception. However, we must add that too many acquaintance have shared very similar thoughts and experiences. read more

My wife and I took Dad there Thursday night for the first time. Wow, we were pleasantly surprised how wonderful it was. My wife had the sea bass special ( yumm) and my Dad had the pot roast special. He loved it and it was huge. Leftovers for him. I wanted to try the steak and our server Courtney recommended the filet. I was not disappointed. It was cooked medium-rare as I ordered, was tender and flavorful. OMG, I almost forgot. I started with a crock of French Onion soup which was the best I've had in years. Cheese melting done the sides and great broth full of onions. Courtney was so pleasant, attentive and knowledgable. The maître de - Rosemary was also great. We had nice conversations about the restaurant and daily specials. We will definitely be back and recommend to all our friends and family. read more

We tried Jameson's Sunday.The food and service were top notch. The waiter was knowledgable and attentive. I had the Chicken Marsala. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the Marsala sauce was rich and flavorful. My meal included a salad containing fresh mixed greens, baked potato perfectly done and fresh green beans. The meal also came with fresh, hot rolls. My wife had a shrimp dish in wine sauce which she described as excellent. Overall our dining experience was superb and we will be visiting Jameson's frequently. read more

Excellent food and service. We had heard this newly opened restaurant was good from various Sun City residents we play golf with so we decided to try it, despite the one negative review we saw on Yelp. We are happy this comfortable restaurant is now part of the neighborhood. The new, open layout is attractive and the white table cloths give it a real night out feel. There is lots to choose from, both food and wine-wise and the prices are reasonable. I had filet mignon and it was delicious, as was the French wine. There are glasses of wine available from several countries. The chowder was excellent, the salad fresh, and the rolls oven- hot when they arrived at our table. The pace of service was relaxed in a good way, not rushed, but attentive. Also, it was not too cold in there, so I was comfortable without having to put on a sweater. The chairs are also comfortable and nice-looking. The restaurant was quite full when we arrived at 7 PM, so I think the word has gotten out that this restaurant is a hugh improvement over what was there. We plan to be regulars! read more

We've had 2 private parties catered by Jameson's. Both were awesome! Excellent food. Great service. We also eat there about 2-3 times a month, and have never had a bad meal. Sometimes the service is slower than we'd like, only because the restaurant is packed. I'd recommend the Jamesons Charhouse to everyone. read more

If I could have fine them less than one star I would have.This restaurant is going steadily downhill. When it first opened we were pleased with the food and the service. The menu, though not very large, offered a nice enough variety. We ordered the same item three separate times and each time it has been more disappointing. We ordered the penne primavera, which the menu states has several varieties of vegetables in a red sauce. The first time we had a good variety of what seemed to be fresh vegetables nicely prepared in a red tomato Marsala sauce over penne pasta. Very good! The following couple of times we were served a bowl of penne with a few threads of soggy spinach and four slices of mushroom is a gooey pink sauce. The best thing I can say is that the rolls were warm. We are sorry to say that we will not return to Jameson's in Sun City. It's just not worth spending money on disappointing food when there are plenty of good restaurants in the area, read more
