Somehow I never knew this cafe existed. I was there with some friends for lunch and it was absolutely outstanding. It was also a lot bigger than I expected. Located in a strip mall area there's plenty of parking. They have a Louisiana/Cajun/New Orlean type cuisine Rachael was our server and was extremely helpful as well as patient with the group I was with. Since reading the reviews prior to visiting, I wanted to try the Oyster Po-Boy. On the lunch menu, they had Combos where you can order a half Po-Boy along with soup or Gumbo for $13.95. The Oyster Po-Boy added an extra $1.00. So that's what I ordered----half oyster Po-Boy with Shrimp & Corn soup. The soup tasted like it may have been homemade. It was excellent with at least 6 medium size shrimp along with a delicious corn and seafood broth. The half Po-Boy was definitely a good size packed with large fried oysters. They had a separate room which I didn't visit. I'm guessing for larger parties or overflow. I believe they also serve alcohol although I didn't see a bar when I was there. We happened on River Road Cafe by accident as our intended restaurant was closed for breakfast on Mondays. What a pleasant surprise. The ambiance has a jazzy New Orleans vibe to it and the food does too. You can get a plain American breakfast or sausage and gravy over the best home made biscuits in town. Two in our party got the River Road breakfast, One got the Spinach egg wrap and one got the Ugly egg Burrito. The grits were the best cheesy grits I've had in S Kendra was our lovely waitress who had a beautiful intoxicating smile. She recommended several of her favorite dishes and all were spot on. She obviously loves where she works. Not only has the menu been expanded to accommodate an evening meal but the space has been expanded to include a bar with seating area, extended seating and two pool tables. We Will definitely plan our next trip back for lunch or dinner. In fact, this might just become our new local when we visit our kids in HiltonHead SC. read more

Found this gem through Yelp while traveling in Bluffton for a family reunion. The cafe was New Orleans themed pictures and decor all around. My wife and I had breakfast at River Road Cafe this morning. What a wonderful experience. My wife ordered the waffles with banana and nut on top. The waffle batter was homemade and it was delicious. I had the Crawfish etouffee and it was outstanding,. It was a wonderful balance between Louisiana Cajun and a smooth head texture of ingredients. This was my favorite. I encourage anyone to go and enjoy a good breakfast. Soon. They will be offering dinner from Thursday evening to Sunday evening. I can't wait to go there. read more

Yelp Reviews really like this cafe. Caveat: GPS devices may not provide accurate direction; Cafe is very small and is without clear markings. In general we agree with the very positive reviews. We arrived for lunch and observed more than several folks being turned away because they were a few minutes late for breakfast. We strongly recommend continuing breakfast menu through lunch. Because of a recent Cajun meal nearby, we are interested in Cajun today. River Road Cafe is a relatively new, small cafe which has a Cajun breakfast, but hardly a Cajun lunch - Our advice is to "Cajun Up" the lunch menu. We probably should have ordered Oyster PO' Boy; we did order Roast Beet Po' Boy, and this which is excellent. We are residing for our Holiday at Marriott Grande Ocean, and today's drive across the Bridge required nearly 1/2 hour -- too long. We Like and Recommend River Road Cafe, but unless this cafe steps up its Cajun Lunch Menu, we are not persuaded to eschew Hilton Head restaurants. This has to be one of the best brunch places I've been to since we moved here. It's a very small cafe with a New Orleans vibe with a nice jazzy background. The inside was great. Just a few tables with easy jazz playing and it was easy to make conversation without having to raise your voice. The service was great, they were very attentive and nice. Now to the reason we go out. The food was incredible. They have a wide selection of southern style Cajun foods and they all look and sound amazing. I picked the ugly egg burrito. It was wonderfully made and has great flavor. The presentation was top notch for a 13$ meal. It filled me up! Wife got the veggie omelette. She was very satisfied. She even tried some of my cheese grits for the first time and they were great! I can't recommend this place enough. It's small tho so call ahead or go early. read more

HIDDEN GEM! This little out of the way place is excellent. We mostly have come on weekends and really enjoy the brunch menu. The omelets are fantastic. Today we tried the weekday lunch menu and the Black and Bleu burger was to die for. My wife did the half Po Boy and sweet potatoe fries with rum sauce, she loved it. The staff is wonderful and very attentive. She told my wife about thier homemade bread pudding, which we are looking forward to try. read more

The positive reviews had me stopping at River Road Cafe. With creole shrimp, andouille sausage and crawfish on the breakfast menu, it certainly gives breakfast entrees a Louisiana Cajun flair. It was very busy so at the counter, the only seat available, I sat! I opted for their namesake River Road Omelette filled with onion, bell pepper, tomatoes, cheese, andouille sausage and topped with shrimp creole, $12.95. It was delicious mix of flavors and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The topping of creole shrimp jazzed up this omelette with a nice, just right, spice kick. The egg entrees come with a choice of grits or hash browns. The grated hash browns where perfectly cooked - crispy outside and tender inside. Beer and wine served here. Friendly service. Was over in Bluffton today and found this hidden gem of a place. I had looked at their menu and was very excited for the New Orleans designed menu. Happily, their sat and sun menu is their brunch menu so it was not a loss on flavor for me. Rachael was our server and she was awesome and professional. She was attentive and ensured we had a great meal and experience. Got their Dirty Bird breakfast and their River road breakfasts. Both were plentiful and truly tasted great. The cheesy grits are delicious and their andouille sausage add on was spot on for flavor. If you're in the area you need to come done here. You will not regret it in anyway. read more

No kids menu. The roast beef po boy was wonderful but the shrimp po boy wasn't great (def could use more sauce & flavor). $14 for chicken tenders for our kids. We only went because our favorite Kenny B's was closed. read more

First off- breakfast was great! Chicken fried steak/scrambled eggs. Doesn't come with toast(?)...ok ordered a side of sourdough. Came out: ONE slice of toasted bread?! LOL I know times are tight but charging $1.50 for a slice of toasted bread...WoW. Service was pretty standard. Total cost: $27.00. Again great food - toast is damn expensive . OK ya'll.. get your grits on and go here! Heard good things about River Road so we went for breakfast. I had 2 eggs with andouille sausage. Sausage had a little spice but not too much. And the grits...they were the cheesiest grits I've ever had and sooo good. They give you a big portion so half came home with me. (They do have special little containers for the grits). Service was slow though as there was a big group of about 14 people right before us. Our table could have been taken by a different server and it would have helped. Restroom was clean and tidy. read more

Please don't come here. The place is small and easily gets crowded. Why? Because the food is spectacular! Has a New Orleans flair and the chef certainly knows his business. Had the steak and eggs - none better! And the service - excellent. Didn't have to wait long for a server even though we seemed to have come at the worse time. If you do come, don't sit too long at the table....people are waiting! read more

Hudson's was located all the way to the left and had more of its own private parking area closer to the entrance. The atmosphere felt like a laid-back, rugged seafood bar with plenty of seating inside and outside on the deck. If you're lucky enough to grab a seat at the outdoor bar, I'd highly recommend it. Unfortunately, it was packed when we visited, so we ended up sitting at the inside bar instead. Even sitting inside, there was a lot of entertainment between the bartender and the guy cracking stone claws behind the bar. We ordered a bucket of local oysters, which turned into an experience all on its own. This was actually my first time shucking my own oysters at a restaurant, and since many of them were stuck together, it made the whole thing even more fun and interactive. We also shared a she-crab soup that was creamy, thick, and absolutely delicious--10 out of 10 recommend. Have decent by bottle and glass list of wine and extensive beer including a few on tap. Bar tender gave good service while being friendly to locals and tourists like us. Place is right on water. No reservation but we luckily got two seats at the bar after being told 60 minute wait for table outside. Understandable as view is amazing especially at sunset.

The pastries were fresh, moist and memorable. Of course I had to ask the service desk who supplies them. I found out they were from The Sugaree, so I had to stop by on my way home to see what else they had on the menu. So I walk into The Sugaree and not only do they have pastries, there's a whole dining room, a full menu with breakfast bite, specialty sandwiches, fresh bread, and so much more. I ordered a cinnamon roll to go. It was so delicious. The Sugaree is a hidden gem, tucked away, serving up deliciousness.
