Best food ever, service is amazing as always, the only down side for me is no ac! Why are the kitchen staff and wait staff having to work like this in the summer heat? Management and owners need to fix this before they lose all of their employees and customers. It's the middle of summer for crying out loud. I hope something gets done about this, as it's not a comfortable eating experience when sweat is dripping down my face and my ice melts in my drink almost instantly. This isn't a negative review because I love this restaurant and all of the staff. Everyone is amazing and attentive. The inside looked new yet 4/5 Service: I was immediately seated and brought a bowl of chips. Unfortunately won't be coming back even though you're five minutes from my house. The Taste wow...as a Latina this was so bland. Carnitas should have tons of flavor thank goodness for hot sauce. Greeted with a smile upon entry meant a lot since it was a gloomy day. Ordered shrimp nachos and this didn't disappoint. The amount can feed two to three ppl. Friends who LOVE Mexican visited last weekend. We wanted a game night in but MX food. So we headed to Rio Chico to place a to go order. While we waited Victor, Victor and Jesus gave special attention, offering beverages and socializing with us, while Rosaria added a special humor. Don't waste your time or money. We were first welcomed with a black hair in our chips. Then when we told the service she just said "would you like more chips and oh that must be Nicks bc the other guy is bald." Then we had ordered a margarita that never showed up in the hour and a half we were in there. As we wait for our food to come she places down our fajitas for 2 with no peppers and guess what was in there. Peppers. So we send it back. The rice and beans were dead cold and then by the time the meat got back well they were stone cold. They tasted terrible anyway. The fajita meat is tiny chopped pieces so it just falls out of your fajita the whole time. He said they do it this way so they can put it into a machine and mince it to save time. we've been eating here for a couple years and sadly it is going downhill - the fish tacos today were not good at all, we ordered 2 fajitas for 2 (so for 4) and even after checking multiple times we ended up with 1 order of fajitas for 2. The quality of the food and service is deteriorating. Tonight we had a new waitress (first day actually) and she wasn't knowledgeable about the menu and when we asked for our senior discount, she told us she couldn't give it to us because there wasn't a manager on site to teach her how to do that. The food was terrible here, our waitress was awful, she missed multiple orders, didn't bring silverware, she also brought bean and cheese dip to the wrong table and we watched the people dip their chip in it, she then realized it was wrong and took it from their table to ours after it had already been used and thought we didn't see it. He liked his enchilada, except for the sauce, which he said was too sweet; I found it to be rather bland. I got the burrito supremo with chicken. There were no refried beans in it as the description says there are, and I found peas and a lima bean inside my leftovers as I ate them today for lunch. My grandparents brought us to "the best Mexican" spot near their house in Sun City and it did not disappoint. We ordered the steak and chicken fajita for two and the portion was generous. It tasted fresh. It was a great blend of mushroom, onion, peppers, tomatoes, chicken and steak. It was served piping hot on a sizzling skillet. We each got a plate of Mexican rice, refined beans, and all the mexican fixings. We ordered both corn and flour tortillas which were tasty, hot and fresh. I ordered a medium margarita on the rocks which came in a goblet sided glass. Even in a COVID environment, the atmosphere was fun. I have eaten at Rio Chico twice now. The first time was during Cinco de Mayo. They were slammed but the service was excellent as was the food. The second time I had just had dental surgery and explained to our server that I had to eat soft food. She immediately recommended the pulled chicken rice bowl. Our shrimp and scallop fajitas were awful. The scallops were chewy, and were very fishy tasting. They were over-seared/fried and looked like cut up sausage. The vegetables were not crispy, more like mush. Very disgusting. Looks like they were pre-cooked. When reported to the manager he agreed the dish wasn't prepared well, and he asked what we would like him to do for us. We asked to be charged for the shrimp fajita meal because we didn't eat any of the scallops...he took $5 off our bill. Unacceptable. I've been in restaurant management for thirty years. My wife and I ate at Rio Chico in Hardeeville this afternoon. While we were eating a young man brought a calf (baby cow) on a leash to the outside of the restaurant. The workers all knew him and he stood no more than 3 feet from the front of the restaurant with the scared calf taking cell phone pictures with people. The poor calf looked scared to death. After leaving I called and spoke to the person in charge who told me it wasn't their calf and he did not see any problem with it being there. This was my last time at Rio Chico. Decent enough Mexican food - nice enough people working here. Big plus that they serve mole, a rarity these day. That said I was gobsmacked with the vision of a $4.50 diet Coke on my bill this weekend. Hadn't really looked before but are you kidding me? I don't pay this much for Diet Coke when I eat at Le Bernardin in New York City. One of the most expensive restaurants in the country. Not sure what these people are thinking, but my guess is that they know that all the mommies and daddies buy sprite for their kids and they're going to stick them with a bill where the soda costs more than the kids meal! Ate here yesterday and it was horrible! They have new cooks and they don't know what they are doing! The beans I could have sucked them up with a straw, the rice was so over cooked that it was mush. I had a chicken with no seasoning and had been pounded out so thin that it was hardly there. The chips were so dark in color from being fried in very old grease! Really bad! They better fix this quickly or they are not going to be opened much longer! So sorry, they use to be very good! read more
