Passed by this spot while on my way to visit family in the area. Decided to stop in later. Got there about half an hour after they opened. Placed two orders. One was baked catfish with macaroni and cheese and cabbage. Fish was cajun, which the New Orleans in me liked. The macaroni and cheese was probably the first batch from the kitchen, so it was good. The cabbage was my favorite and I have a feeling that it may be because they were cooked with onions. I ate this onsite at the outdoor patio while they prepared my second order for takeaway. The second order was fried catfish, spaghetti, and mustards/turnips mix. Catfish had a bit of a Louisiana fry taste to the batter. Yep, I approved. The spaghetti was a good side and I enjoyed the greens with the corn muffin crumbled in it. Good thing I ate this when I got home because nothing like some hot sauce on the fish to kick it up a notch. Jamison's is a walk-up. When it's nice outside, sitting on the patio is a good option. This was by far one of the best Soul Food places I have been to in a long time. When we usually in the neighborhood there is a line outside. I got luck on this day as there was no line wrapped around the building. The hubby and I particularly loved the apple and peach cobbler. We also ordered the catfish dinner with Mac & cheese and yams. Um. This restaurant is actual gold. My fiance and I passed by here a few weeks ago and had to stop. I had pot roast with mac n cheese, greens, and rice (that comes with it?) My fiance had pork chops with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was so freakin' good! The mac n cheese was probably one of the best I've had (although I do prefer mac from the Slab in South Shore), but this was great! I became an employee of Jamison's in August of 2020. From the description of the business on line, I thought I found a company in which I could have some longevity. The food was said to be " from scratch", "farm to table", " recipes handed down from generations of family." This is all a lie! Most of the items are instant: mashed potatoes, gravy, jiffy mix. The dishes were always half washed, filthy. The food is poorly stored and sanitation is compromised due to lack of space and a poorly designed kitchen layout. Also, the food portions are sometimes too small for the price being charged. Moreover, the drastic change in the quality of the food is due the disrespectful, demeaning behavior portrayed by the owner Jamie. Her behavior breaks the heart (the kitchen)of the restaurant. Her mouth has no filter, no compassion. It becomes difficult continue to get good service from employees that you embarrass, degrade, and disrespect. I was harassed daily and treated as though I was a pet, not an employee. There was word play on my name daily. My body shape and my light skin were always mentioned by the owner Jamie. On one occasion she told me I had the right name for a light skinned person. Sometimes referring to me by saying "your thick chicken eating butt, or move all that out the way". This brought attention to my physical appearance that I did NOT desire in the workplace. This is not professional kitchen behavior. Most people just say behind and direct you left or right. On a separate occasion she cursed out the sous chef in front of everyone, and it was no fault of his own. She even yelled for him to take his,"Mexican ass back to where he came from!" Furthermore, her and her daughter's nastiness toward the customers who have complaints and are missing items, needs to be captured on hidden video. It is a shame how vulgar they would talk to the customers. There were several occasions where Jamie snatched the customers order back, aggressively returned their payment, and ignorantly told them to never return. This behavior sickened me. The majority of these customers drive from afar, stand a ridiculously long line, in extreme weather to endure such a poopy level of customer service. Normally, I do not post my discrepancies, I go the professional route; however, the labor laws do not provide help to individuals who have issues with private, small businesseses. However, on a previous occasion and today on 12-18-20 at 6:45 pm, I encountered a lack of professionalism and good customer service from the manager on duty. I placed two orders and made a request to change one of the two orders because they did not have the available side items. The employee became indignant and told me to get out of the restaurant instead of allowing me to change the order that didn't have the available sides nor purchase the other order. It's unbelievable that you will behave in such a manner to a customer. I have asked several people to patronize this establishment to support a black owned business and because the food is good. Manager accuses customer of changing a side instead of realizing her employee simply misheard the entire order since her conversation about Cardi B was more important than taking accurate orders. Who gets at a customer over a side especially if the customer is still calm and speaking respectfully? Typical response would be to fix it and move on. Walked right in and ordered 1/2 Rotisserie chicken, greens and black-eyed peas. The chicken came with dressing and the meal came with a cornbread muffin. I also ordered a banana pudding. The only part of the meal that was good was the chicken was okay (Wal-mart deli rotisserie chicken is better seasoned) and the banana pudding. The black-eyed peas were not done and still firm. The greens were stringy and I couldn't figure out why. The cornbread was hard and crumbly, such a disappointment. The owner said, "No!, we have to get rid of this before we bring fresh food out." So the first time I went here I really enjoyed the meatloaf and peach cobbler so I decided to return. The meatloaf was still good but it was swimming in grease. The yams are tetrible. The mac and cheese is horrible. It literally tastes like cheese and shells. No eggs. No butter. No milk. No seasoning horrible. Bit of a long one but I'm THOROUGHLY disgusted with this establishment: Me and my mother (who is ELDERLY) were SO excited to try this spot. Unfortunately i can't review the food because I never got to order it. My elderly mother can't really stand for long so I went inside to order for her. Mind you, we've never been here before so we were a bit confused about the menu so my mother called to ask questions before I went inside. The woman who answered, who I'll assume was the cook, was very rude to my mother and rushed her off the phone before she could finish her question. Once I go in, my mother calls me to ask questions since they weren't answered over the phone and asks questions about the food she was about to purchase. The cook gets irritated when my mother no longer wants the food because they don't have some thing she wants and calls who I'm assuming was the manager and the manager told me that she couldn't serve me. The chicken was hot and had 4 pieces however it could have been cooked longer and had more sauce. The northern beans and rice wasn't good. The macaroni and cheese wasn't good.
