I love visiting this office! I have terrible eyesight, but I've never had a terrible experience when going to Dr. Nyssen's office. Dr. Nyssen himself is a kind, welcoming, and professional optometrist, and I have been his patient for several years. We have engaging and interesting conversations during the appointments, so I always feel safe and comfortable while having my eyes checked. Every prescription, whether for glasses or contacts, has worked amazingly for me. He taught me everything I needed to know regarding contacts when I started getting into combat sports, and wearing contacts have helped me immensely. My 8-year-old son went to see Dr Nyssen on Jan 2024. He was nice，but he told my son he did not need glasses which was not true. My son also had a lazy eye and Nyssen did not say anything either. And we did not know better so we went to see him again in Sept 2025. This time my son needed glasses, but Nyssen does not offer CRT or Misight options until I ask for them, also it always took forever for him to call back. Finally we got misight，but the fitting was horrible，my son could not see clearly through them. But Nyssen refused to do anything. Then we went to see some else and found out my son had different power，he had a lazy eye and probably needed glasses very early on. Did I mention that I need to call 4 times to get a prescription after the eye exam？ I really dont know where the good reviews come from. Dr Nyssen has been my eye doctor for 30 years. I fly to California to see him annually. It feels like hanging out with an old friend who just so happens to be checking my vision at the same time. Dr. Nyssen was highly recommend by a friend of mine and I am so happy we decided to choose him. Easy to make appointments and all his staff are friendly, professional, and courteous. Most stressful moment for me in the past was choosing the right frame of glasses for my face. Staff was never helpful at previous eye doc offices. But, here, staff spent a decent amount of time last year helping me pick out the right frame for my face. That meant the world to me! Wow Yelp lied to me again. I do not know what all these glowing reviews are about. Dr. Nyssen gave an ok eye exam and shared a lot about his family and sick son. Which I am now thinking garners a lot of sympathy from customers who post 5 star reviews. I wish people would post honestly about their actual experiences with providers. The office is small and cramped and otherwise unremarkable. The parking lot is even worse and it's an ordeal to find parking. I did NOT find the staff to be welcoming and friendly. The opposite I felt rushed, talked at, and like a number in a machine. It's like they felt they we're doing you a favor by taking your money. It was clear the staff did NOT want to be there (maybe because it's Covid times?) and were going through the motions. Also, I did NOT appreciate the Covid "precautions". The receptionist talked at me and told me to put on hand sanitizer (didn't ask or offer in a courteous way the way other businesses do). Plus she did not do this to the customers behind me to do so I definitely felt singled out and profiled. If you're that freaked out by Covid that you can't provide a basic level of service, stay closed. You don't want to serve me, I don't want to waste my time and give you my money either. As for the eye exam itself there are many other providers in the area who can perform this service. read more

The right nose pad on my glasses broke off a few months ago. Not sure how. The dummy I am kept wearing the glasses and it's caused a small scar. I went to Walgreens down the street to purchase an eyeglass repair kit + some nose pads but there were none in stock. Driving by, I happened to see this Optometrist Office, a family business run by Dr. Jan Nyssen. A nice person named David greeted me and I told him my problem. Without hesitation, he simply took my glasses and fixed them, free of charge. Wow. In this day of massive corporations, there's still a family business that cares about its neighbors. One of my best girlfriends recommended Dr. Nyssen to me and I have to say it was a great find. I needed to "Sexify" my eye wear and there was a decent selection to choose from. How rude of me to have forgotten the gentlemens name that helped me pick out a pair. But he was very friendly, honest and helpful. I had questions about "what my coverage, covered", he showed me what it would cost me and what it was costing me. I was saving a bundle and it made me feel even better about my purchase. Let me start of by saying that I was very impressed by Dr Nyssen's office. It was very neat and professional. You are immediately greeted with a warm welcome as soon as you enter the door. First of all, I must say Dr. Nyssen is super awesome and knowledgeable, and 100% I will come back to visit him and get another annual checkup. You can't go wrong with him. But why three stars? When I visit an optometrist, I expect two thing: - Have a through, professional check-up to get a prescription - prescription to build a glass If you need a prescription and you got insurance covered, visit Nyssen and you won't regret. But if you want a glass, well... you may want to ponder it again. Here are a few reasons I give three star and a few reason you may want to look somewhere else: - (Very big NO) The label price on frame is very over-priced. A frame with no brand (or mediocre brand, i.e. CF) is asking for $210, what? Well, I can have a coach sun glass in less $210 in any macy store. Even worse, I find exact the same frame online, the msrp is only $149.99 and most online/retail store sell it for $100 or less (I'm not talking about ebay here, I'm talking about common price using product search engine). Well, if they double the price on the frame, I don't expect other service like tinting / lens are priced reasonably. - (Not for men) They have very limited choice of frame, in particular, for men. None of my favorite brand is found here. But don't get me wrong, I'm not nit-picking on brand, but I just can't find a "perfect" one here. Their stock for "men" is very limited in my opinion (comparing to ladies). I have been wearing glasses for more than 15 years and have been at least 10 shops, so believe me it's really limited choice. - (big head? but still want a stylish frame? No way) I got a big head. Well, not super big but a men-size head. I have no problem in the past in any other glass store to find a decent one I like and fits my head. But I can only find a barely fit one here. Actually, I only have two or three choice (because of my head). So if you have a big head, I will say you probably want to look somewhere else with more choices. We buy two glasses and as a total it cost more than $1500. I am expecting to pay more but not that much. - (Probably over-price very much?) If I have to pay $1500 for two glasses (not counting in getting prescription in which co-pay is only $15 ), I would expect to get at least a nice look, head-fitting glass. Or at least order some for big-head men. And I asked whether any discount for getting two glasses... the answer is NO. (And they also told me that sadly, there is no referral bonus). (At least, you do have a really good doctor to check your eye). Bottom line, I recommend Dr. Nyssen, and his staffs are all sweat and great. They are courteous, nice, and professional. I have no problem at all to recommend friend and get prescription here. But probably also remind them to consider "two-stop" shopping, i.e. bring prescription and get glasses somewhere else. I give it three star for now because of Dr. Nyssen if considering what I paid and what I got. And I will only recommend this place to people who don't care to pay double price. BTW, they promised to fine-tune my frame so it fits better, and I will update the review if they do fix that size issue... (finger crossed) read more

I don't know if Dr. N had a terrible day or what was occurring for him.. but I have never been to a location where I felt so ignored and uninformed.. I was recommended by a dear friend so I had high hopes that by paying $165, I would be thoroughly educated on the procedure options for Lasik, contact lenses and anything regarding the eyes in making a wise decision. My friend gave her word that he would really take care of me.. :'( In my experience of getting my eyes examined.. He was incredibly brief with me and had sort of a cookie cutter way of operating. It felt very mechanical to me. a similar feeling of waiting to get my car fixed... He only provided me with one option (wave front) which is considered the most expensive procedure on the market.. I was surprised on his limited option, so I researched and found that there are actually 4 options currently recommend on the market. I didn't gain any insight or value from this particular appointment.. I was disappointed as well, when I was considering to buy some contact lenses I called into the office to have them fax my over subscription copy. I was then told it would cost another $100 for fitting... I remember that there was no mention or offer of getting my contact lenses fitting. Just a tip. Costco cost $80 for both lenses and contact exam. I would think $165 could cover both.. The one great thing he did well was that he called back same day. Usually after 5pm. unfortunately, I felt like I wasted my time & money by visiting this location. Will not come again. Most likely will not refer here.. read more

He's exceedingly kind and thorough; even coming in on a weekend for a follow up appointment because he was worried my checkup couldn't wait for a weekday if my condition worstened. He even gave me a break on the cost because I was paying out of pocket. If I had to pin down anything that could be improved, I really wish his office would accept my health insurance and not just VSP. When I developed a corneal infection, I had to pay for my visits myself because VSP would refer me back to Blue Shield for medical care and my PCP was too hard to get into...not to mention not as knowledgeable as Dr. Nyssen. Great location, great doctor, great experience. I have high astigmatism in my eyes and have been having problems finding contacts that fit right. Dr. Nyssen was able to successfully find one for me. The initial ones he had me try on didn't feel right but he was able to find a substitute. This was the first optometrist that I was comfortable with and didn't feel he was just rushing me in and out of the office. I will return for my yearly checkup and highly recommend him to others. Plus he's very nice and very cordial. UPDATE: I just got LASIK done and Dr. Nyssen is doing my post-op. Everything went great and I used his recommended surgeon and have no regrets. I needed to go to someone who would listen to me, be patient, be gentle, and help me feel comfortable. That is EXACTLY what I got from Dr. Nyssen. He is so kind, so helpful, so understanding... he answered all my questions, helped me clear up a reaction my eyes were having... helped me improve enough that I could start wearing contacts again... Susan could help the most picky and difficult person(me) choose a pair of new glasses that make you feel confident and pretty. She is so good you don't even need to put them on and she can tell you if they will work or not. Jason is also very helpful... he did my glasses fitting for me. He listened to me and got me all set up. I have nothing bad to say about this office at all. I wish everyone I knew would go to him... even people without vision needs I have been saying "You just have to go see him". Five star for professional service! I contacted the doctor after reading reviews. Very pleased with the service. The assistant called a week before to verify my insurance and got all the information ready and again at the noon on the day I was supposed to come. The doctor was friendly and professional. He took a look at my last prescription lens and did a minor modification to my new one after carefully examine my eyes. He also advised me as how to make full use of my plan. The assistant was no pushing at all on getting lens or frames. I pretty much tried all the frames and finally settled on the one that was both good for my eyes and fitting into insurance. read more
