Rude and provocative cook!!!! Stopped in before reading reviews (BIG MISTAKE). Ordered eggs, scrapple, potatoes, toast, and orange juice. I specifically asked the waitress if they had onions. She said oh yes, I requested from her a spatula full of fried onions laid on top of my potatoes. When I received my breakfast, she asked if there would be anything else and I said yes the onions I asked for on the potatoes. She said there are pieces of onions mixed in with the potatoes. I said to the waitress, didn't I specifically ask you for fried onions laid on top of the potatoes at which time the waitress indicated that the cook did not make them that way. I told her that's the way I ask them to be prepared. I don't like them mixed in with the potatoes that's why I ask you about it before I even ordered She went back to the cook at which time the cook approached my table and read me the riot act. There was another table full of customers right next to me and she rained down on me like a little Nazi. " There are onions in your potatoes". She brought me a bowl of raw onion and tossed them onto the table. I said listen, lady those onions are not cooked. I specifically asked for fried onions on top of my potatoes. She explained that's not the way she makes them and I'm the only person she's ever had asked for them that way. She then asked me if I saw fried or caramelized onions on the menu. I told her no, but I didn't see fried or scrambled eggs either. It just says eggs on the menu. As a cook, you're supposed to prepare the food as ordered. At that point, I asked her if she was a real cook and she exploded and she said only for the past 45 years. I told her I thought that during that 45 years she would've learned to have fried onions. She shouted a few other things and told me I had a nasty personality What a way to attract repeat business When waitress returned with the onions there were about a good tablespoon full and they had been deliberately burned up! When I got my check, it was $20.98 for what I ordered. I noticed she tacked $2.50 on extra for frying the onions. That only cost her waitress the tip. I left $21 and left writing on the check. Cook is responsible for your gratuity. I will not be back to deal with this nasty, nasty lady Breakfast was mediocre at best Like many of the other reviews, I've read after leaving this dive They are rude beyond believe. Great place to eat breakfast- Waffles are great, better than any Wafflehouse; omelets are big Waiter was nice, attentive. Only downside is cash only- but there is an ATM across the street. read more

Wow, the level of rudeness here is off the charts. My mom stopped in early for an egg sandwich and got a earful of rude comments. She is 70 years old and after not seeing the "cash only" sign while ordering, Misty, the waitress scolded her for not knowing the policy. My mom apologized and pulled out the only cash she had, a $100 bill. Misty screamed at her about disrespecting her and called her a piece of trash and then told her to GTFO. Shook my elderly mom up pretty good. No idea how the food is because who is going to stick around after treatment like this! I wouldn't eat here if you paid me. Always wonderful service. We stumbled in one day when we were brand new to town. Everyone treated us like we were long lost family.

Visiting from out of town. Needed a place for a coffee. Found Jane's. Ordered home fries and two eggs. Simple stuff. But they did the eggs light-over-easy so perfectly and the home fries are among the freshest I've had in a very long time. Soft and crispy at the same time with onions and still with the peel. The experience is certainly exceeding expectations. Truly feels like a home-cooked meal. read more

This place is perplexing. You'd think that to survive as a cash only business you'd put out a mean meal. I've been here a few times and each time I've asked myself "what were you thinking." I appreciate the small town feel. It appears there are many loyal locals. I just don't get why. The burger I had was lacking flavor - I didn't finish it. Onion rings were served in a puddle of oil. They weren't particularly good either. Prices were high. I guess they're better for breakfast but still nothing special. Service hasn't been particularly warm and fuzzy either. No checking in after the meal was brought. No checking to see if more drinks were needed. If you sit around and wait for your check, you'll be waiting a while. I haven't felt so unwelcome in a long time - particularly since they haven't exactly been busy with other customers. I just don't get it. read more

We have been coming to this place for years and always had a good experience but today was terrible. Place was dirty, over crowded and under staffed. After sitting waiting to be served (never acknowledge by the waitress) for over 20 minutes we left. Went to Berryville Grille and got great food and service! Won't be back!!!! read more

Food was awful. Duct tape booths and indoor playground really add to the experience. We had fried chicken that tasted like it was cook in the microwave and then reheated in the same microwave. The flour and water mixed together were served as pancakes. The bacon was ok, you really can't screw that up. Also, no refills on drinks. Go next door to the berryville grille. The biscuits and gravy should be re-named biscuits & glue :( If the tatty unkempt atmosphere doesn't turn you back out the door, the food surely will. I took two bites and decided it wasn't worth the risk. I walked over to where our server (perhaps the owner) was and voiced my disappointment and offered to pay for our food. (after all, I did order it) He simply said "No one has ever complained before" with a tude, and he TOOK MY MONEY!!! No apology or nothing. That shows you what is important to them! Walked in with the family for breakfast and we were greeted right away. Not many customers at that time. The ambience is deceiving and might turn you away but the food is home cooked and i say worth the wait. Biscuits were buttery with perfect texture. Eggs and sausage were done just as ordered and the home fries (crispy but a bit oily). One of 5 dishes was served incorrectly but overall was a nice visit. read more

Hometown feel, but not much more. Food was generally awful - most dishes were very bland or dull. No spices, no flavor -- reminded me a lot of cafeteria food. Staff was fairly friendly but easily overwhelmed if a large group comes in. No drink refills (in the summer in Virginia? No way.) Not recommended. read more

Found this place on a whim after coming back from Luray. We wanted something other than the traditional fare found along the highways and we came searching off the beaten path and found this place. I had the same experience that many others on here and google in that the staff was unfriendly and 1 in particular rude. May have been the owner. I'm a pretty friendly person so if an interaction doesn't go well esp in a restaurant setting, it's not me. I was visiting Berryville so not a local. The waitress approached me no smile or friendly greeting which set the tone for me immediately. I noticed she was friendly to other customers. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. I was at least hoping for maple syrup with my pancakes! Instead just the fake stuff. What I ordered came with 2 large pancakes and that was too much for me. They were unwilling to take off anything without charging me ala carte. They could have done that easily . On top of that the waitress never came back to see how my food was and I had to wave her down for more coffee. When I expressed this, I just got excuses and then the owner I believe it was very rude. I happened to overlook the cash only sign and she was really nasty about that. So I had to go to atm for cash and when I was walking out after paying, she started clapping. Not sure what that was about. This was the worst dining experience ever! Too bad they haven't learned anything from numerous negative reviews. read more

A piece of small town America. Friendly, very civic minded and supportive of local culture. The Clarke County High School football team eats here a lot and many of them went there recently to celebrate the owner's, Mitzi, birthday! Great for breakfast and lunch...haven't been there for dinner, but I know the local boys like it! This place got a star because you have to give something...the star is FREE but you couldn't give the food away if you were paid! Outdated and broken down interior and furnishings; piles of children's toys crowd the front of the place (unsanitary on so many levels) plastic silverware (packaged) and plastic coated menus that needed to be wiped down. Sweet Tea had a strange taste-could've been the local water, but it was "off" and barely sweet. Chili was nuked and tasted straight outta the can (stale pre-packaged crackers did not help.) One bite and the tastebuds waived the white napkin of surrender! Dining companions plate of paste ( Biscuits and Gravy) arrived-he managed TWO bites. Horrible. We paid for our orders, left the remains on the table and our "feedback". We will NEVER return and hope to spare others from a similar dining disaster. I liked the place. It's a small time restaurant. It reminded me of restaurants from my youth. Old B&W pictures on the walls. Thy have what appears to be a non electronic pin ball machine. The prices, while not steep, were more than I'd expect from a small restaurant. The platter cakes (pancakes) tasted good. They were sweet (contain some vanilla). The sausage patties were much better than other places. Sausage gravy on home fries - great taste even though it was a smaller portion. It's one big room - the kitchen isn't separated by the normal counter. Server was attentive. I'd go back. Cash only - no credit cards. read more

So unbelievably bad I should have thrown my meal against the wall. First was the price; $9.50 for two eggs, a meat, potatoes and toast. Asked for eggs over medium, after quite a long wait, they arrived with the whites very watery. Took the bacon and toast off the platter and sent it back for more cooking. The potatoes came back on a small saucer not reheated. About 5 minutes later, the two eggs arrived, the whites cut off and the two egg yolks stacked one on top of the other on a saucer. I asked for a platter for them, slid the eggs onto it and discovered the eggs were now totally cooked through. Of course the potatoes, bacon and toast were totally cold. If i could rate this facility lower then i have i would. So i am going to start from the beginning and go to the end of the whole ridiculous situation i was in today at this establishment. MY friend and i decided to stop and grab some lunch after finishing our job. We walked in and ordered a hotdog and a bacon cheese burger and two cokes. When the waitress brought our drinks she proceeded to tell me that they were all out of hamburger buns and they did not have any complaints from other customers for having to use regular sandwich bread but she did not speak up when we ordered to let us know they were out. After that she comes back and says that they were also out of hot dog buns and we over heard the "owner" stating she did not have time to run to food lion to get more. I then stepped outside to make a phone call so i was not rude and talking on the phone at the table. When i came back in my friend had told me that it was a cash only establishment and i only had about 12 dollars cash on me not knowing they did not take a card due to the owner not wanting to pay customers bank fees. I explained to the waitress that all i had was my card and that i was $3 short of my bill but i did not touch my food for that reason, she then proceeded to tell me she would have to get the owner. The owner walks over and has an attitude straight from the get-go and tells me that if i do not want to pay my bill that she will call the police. I explained to her that i lived right down the road and i just needed to run home and get the THREE dollars and come back and pay her. I even told her she could hold my credit card until i got back. She was not having that, this woman went outside and took all kinds of pictures of my car and came back in with the police on the phone and told them that she had a customer that was trying to run out without paying the bill which was not the case what so ever, she was just not trying to work with me being it was my first time in there i was not aware of cash only. Fast Forward to the police showing up, the police said that this woman does this all the time and basically it was a joke, i then remembered that i had just gotten paid for a job that i had just got done and i just so happened to have a 100 dollar bill in a bank envelope in my car. I went back inside and paid for my meal, THAT I DID NOT EVEN GET TO EAT. This business should not even call its self a business and i would not even recommend feeding the food there to my worst enemy or better yet, a dog! The owner does not deserve your hard earned money when she lacks respect for anyone. Who runs and business that sells hamburgers and hotdogs and does not keep buns stocked?? This woman was the rudest restaurant owner i have ever met in my life! MIND YOU..ALL OF THIS WAS OVER 3 DOLLARS!! I tried to solve the situation without the police being involved but she thought i was trying to run out on my bill on food that was not even touched by neither of us to begin with. I will never step foot in this run down diner again, The atmosphere was so uncomfortable and it was hot and muggy in there also, there was stuff piled up everywhere, This business should be shut down, the health department should be called and the situation should be dealt with, if you enjoy being somewhere that you are spending your hard earned money on dog food and being treated like a thief, this is the place to be! i have never felt more disrespected in a place of business in my entire life!! What a treat! Probably some of the greatest, bone stickin', breakfast food obviously cooked with love and fresh ingredients. The waitress was sweet and welcoming. It felt so nice to be surrounded by good folks. While other reviews have bashed the decor and the kids play center I found it charming. Clearly ms. Jane puts more care and energy into her tasty food rather than sweating the small stuff. I mean, a play station is genius! It gives you time to enjoy a cup of joe while the little guys get to have fun. Needless to say this place is awesome.
