I've been seeing Dr. Jane K through the VA Community Care program. I want to start by saying that Dr. K is a very knowledgeable and capable dentist. Her clinical expertise is evident, and I appreciate the care she provides. However, my experience with her front office staff; particularly the receptionist, has been extremely disappointing. The receptionist consistently demonstrates a lack of professionalism, critical thinking, and basic customer service skills. Despite my repeated efforts to communicate my work schedule and availability, she continues to schedule appointments during times I've clearly stated I'm unavailable. Rather than working collaboratively to find a solution, her responses have been dismissive and, frankly, rude. I've tried to remain patient and respectful, but the ongoing communication issues have made it incredibly difficult to continue care at this office. It's unfortunate that such a skilled provider is represented by staff who do not reflect the same level of professionalism or courtesy. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this office particularly due to the poor front desk interactions. I sincerely hope Dr. K considers reevaluating her support team to ensure patients receive the respectful and accommodating service they deserve. The dog is cute but a dog does not belong in the dental office. In addition, I am afraid of getting my fillings done here due to the animal being in close proximity to the tools and instruments. I avoided the dentist for Idk how long until I found Dr Kazanjian! I have been seeing Dr Kazanjian for 3 years. In 3 years, she was able to remove all 4 root canals, do multiple fillings, and has gone out of her way to provide outstanding care. She is very experienced and her work really speaks for itself. I currently live in West Covina and I still drive 30 minutes to Silverlake just to see her. The Dr's office always feels very warm and cozy, not the typical "scary" dentist setting. Summary: I liken my last experience here to being almost like a SAW movie. Firstly, let me say that the front desk attendant and the dental hygenist are excellent. They are nice, attentive, accommodating, and they listen. Doctor Kazanjian is a friendly dentist - but what Catherine S. says in her review is right. I took into account the dentists' location (5 minutes away from our home) and there are a couple good reviews on here... and went anyway. My first day there we corrected a filling, and did the normal exam. The doctor and her dental assistant were bickering a bit - and I thought well, maybe they're having a bad day. A M. reviewed this and she thought it was funny like sisters bickering... well it's not. I came back twice for cleanings, the doctor greeted me nicely - though it was the dental hygenist that was treating me. Yesterday I came back to fix a "leaky" filling (one that would need to be replaced soon, one that is coming out). It was fine at first. Then the doctor and her assistant started bickering. They became more frustrated, which led to a scarier experience. The clamp on my tooth popped off, then the assistant was (no exaggeration) stabbing me with the suction tube. They were going so long with air and suction and just plain time that my lips had dried and then they were starting to crack. I tried to alert either of them about the pain and the dentist said "What?" and just kept going. I turned to the dental assistant and she just smiled. Was I in a horror film? I closed my eyes and just listened to them bickering over my open mouth, drilling and casting away. Two tries later to get some kind of relief for the chapping, I finally got some petroleum jelly for my lips and a smirk from the dentist saying "you're fine, you're not chapped." I even thought for a second - hey maybe I'm not. But the pain of chapped lips was too great. I just sat there praying to any god that would listen that it would be over fast. Well, it wasn't over fast enough. The petroleum jelly was nearly evaporated again to my horror. Luckily I was finished shortly after this happened. At the very least regarding my discomfort, I don't think patients should be ignored when they're making a request (much less one three times), I don't feel that bickering above a patient especially during a procedure is professional or courteous. WHERE is the "bedside manner"? While brushing my teeth last night I noticed my gums were hurting, and under further investigation I saw that I had sores around the tooth that had work, and elsewhere where the dental assistant stabbed me. I woke up this morning and my lips are severely chapped and purple, especially in the middle part. Not chapped according to the dentist, then what the heck is this?! Full disclosure: I've had A LOT of dental work done. Root canals, extractions, wisdom teeth, fillings fillings fillings and I have NEVER come out looking like this. Not even when my fillings have been further back in my mouth have I ever come out like this. It's unnecessary and avoidable, and frankly - just shouldn't happen. I investigated immediately for other dentists in the area, found one, and asked for my charts and x-rays to be sent to them. I'm not going back there. I'm not going to recommend anyone go there - in fact I would recommend people definitely NOT go there. I like my horror on the big screen, thanks! read more

Terrible dentist and TERRIBLE to her staff! She kept barking orders and belittling them, in front of customers! While I was sitting there getting a filling, she would keep yanking the tools out of the assistant's hand and say "see, this is how you do it- how many times do I have to tell you?!" I was so embarrassed for her assistant! P.S. Completely screwed up my tooth. Kept sending me off to a "specialist" when my problems persisted after she filled my cavity. Come to find out she did not attach the filling to my tooth properly... Have now moved on to a fantastic dentist elsewhere. Beware. read more

Dr. Kazanjian is extremely detailed, focused, and provides very high quality service. I went to her for about 4 years that I lived in LA. I found that she will give you her honest opinion, not sell you on extra work that's not needed. And I say this after having had several root canals and crowns, deep cleaning, handful of cavities, etc. - yes, my teeth are that bad, but there were other dentists that tried to sell me on even MORE work than that. She is very skilled and is always alert to the patient's comfort, even as she's working on your teeth. Dr. K conducted a thorough assessment and identified a logical plan to get my teeth into shape. She is a perfectionist (in the best sense) and will patiently work on your teeth rather than compromise quality for sake of time. She is the only dentist I've found so far that I have completely trusted. The office is not fancy, but I don't pay a dentist for a fancy waiting room or snazzy equipment with all the bells and whistles - I want to pay someone who does amazingly high quality work and that's what you get here. read more

If I could give her more than 5 stars, I would. This is a great dental office, small, intimate, there is even a cute little dog named Honey who likes to sit on your lap! My appointment was totally on time, and I was out a little over an hour after. Awesome Hygentist. and Dr. K rocks. She is witty and funny, and likes to make sure everything is done right. Dr. K is a wonderful dentist. I've hated going to dentist all my life. On my first visit, I remember my pulse jumping and breaking a cold sweat. Dr. K was able to calm me down and worked quickly to pull the wisdom tooth. No pain. She used some levers and got the tooth out with minimal discomfort. My wife has been going to her for years and she swears by Dr. K. She's always booked so make sure you schedule an appt in advance. read more

I heart Dr. Kazanjian. She's the best! I think she was one of the first female dentists to graduate from USC or something. The best dentist I've ever had! I've had two wisdom teeth pulled by her. One of them had twisted roots and she still managed to get it out in about 15 minutes without any pain. All she prescribes is Ibuprofin (Advil), if you need it. I was hoping that having the wisdom teeth pulled out would help me in my dieting. No Luck, I was able to eat later that evening. Also, if you're scared of the dentist, like I was, she has a lap dog "Honey" to keep you company and make you happy. Only if you like dogs, if not, then she doesn't have to be there. By the way, Honey is beautifully groomed and clean. I just had my teeth cleaned today. The hygienist is great and gentle! read more

I cannot say enough about this place! This place is a 10 stars place to me. Janet (Dr. Kazanjian) always makes sure everything is good. And her staff is top notch. They simply like a happy patient. I wish if I knew this place years ago. You will never get "Well, you're done, and there's a next patient waiting. So, do you mind leaving?" feeling you get from some doctors. Coming back to Janet today really made me realize what great service is from a doctor. The reason I write this is because I was about to talk myself into a cheaper orthodontist with OK service over a more expensive orthodontist with great service. It was about $1500 difference. The savings I get are big, but I left their office with big unsure feeling. I've been going to Dr. Janet for about 6 years and she has been a big help in fixing some work from a prior doctor. I agree with some of the points negative reviews have covered, but here is why Dr. Janet will be my dentist until she retires (hopefully never!): She doesn't try to sell you anything. Almost all the other places I've been have ads for whitening or other cosmetic procedures. Here you will only see degrees (and some dental art) on the walls. It helps that behind all that education she is also a total perfectionist. At other places there is high pressure to get all your work done fast. But, not with Dr. Janet. She knows how to pace, prioritize, and work with you so you can actually afford to continue to come back and take care of yourself in a timely manner. My teeth have issues and when a dentist looks in my mouth, I see the dollar signs in their eyes. Not with Dr. Janet. Also, I have never come out of her office feeling something was wrong. Years ago I had a single complaint about one of the hygienists and it was resolved quickly with no problems. If you are looking for something fancy and for someone to sell you on either a procedure or themselves - look elsewhere. But solid, well done dental work from an honest and talented doctor, with a GREAT staff is what you find here. read more

Dr. Janet is the BEST! When I moved to LA, I was SO nervous about finding a dentist. YELP reviews led me to her, and I couldn't be more thankful. The office is intimate, clean, and never seems busy (but I usually go early in the AM). Honey (her sweet little dog) is the most adorable and comforting part of the experience! Honey will sit with you and make sure you're doing just fine through your cleaning / appointment! Dr. Janet is so friendly, doesn't try to rip you off, and doesn't rush you. I actually have found that she (and the dental hygienists) will actually do the opposite and take their time with each patient. My old dentist sold me on ENDLESS fillings. Dr. Janet has not recommend I get fillings in the 3 years I've been here, and has found no cavities...which is strange since my old dentist back home at one point found 13. Hmm... i just had my tooth pulled today. Dr. K was great. I started freaking out after she gave me my Novocain, but she gave me a lot of reassurance and help and wouldn't do anything unless i was absolutely calm. after reading the other reviews, i do wonder why Dr. K tells Yola to adjust the instruments so much. i think it's cute and funny....like watching a mom and auntie go over things at thanksgiving dinner. bottom line - i plan on going to Dr. K for many years to come. I have never written a review but I felt it it necessary to applaud the care and dental treatments I've received from Dr. Janet Kazanjian and staff in the last 15 years....certainly more than just satisfactory, they are always always placing a priority on what works best for me. Having been involved in the hospitality/service industry for many years, in addition to being a certified healthcare professional myself, I am well aware that your first priority is for the comfort and satisfaction of the patient/client...sometimes a point of consternation for many of us when making a trip to the dentist, but certainly not within the professional and comforting environment of Dr. Kazanjian's practice. I seldom recall having to "wait my turn" due to overbooking , or spend endless unnecessary painful hours in the chair, whether for routine cleanings to root canal. Her supportive knowing staff have always been caring and professional, making my visits pain-free, both physically and emotionally, Dr.Kazanjian's demeanor and smile are totally honest....her intuitiveness and experience contagious and trustworthy, always putting me at ease once in her chair. AVOID THIS PLACE -- SERIOUSLY. I have NO idea why this place receives such positive reviews. I went to this office twice and will never go back again. First of all, since when is it okay to have a dirty little DOG running around a dental office? I just can't believe this isn't a health hazard and you can be damn sure I'm reporting it to the L.A. Department of Health. That's just the beginning. Dr. Kazanjian found 2 cavities during my visit. She asked me whether I wanted silver or white fillings. I said white. So what does she do? Gives me silver. Aside from this, the work was SHODDY. The dentist who saw me recently - Dr. Kenny Jacobs in Beverly Hills (who I highly recommend) - couldn't believe the person responsible for my dental work was actually a licensed DDS! Furthermore, Dr. Kazanjian creates a thoroughly unpleasant environment whenever her assistant Yola (not sure how it's spelled) is in her presence. *Please see Jam's review below for further corroboration if you don't believe me. Man, is this woman vicious! Literally 2 minutes does not pass before Kazanjian snaps at Yola for something as innocuous as how she holds an instrument. And I'm not talking about constructive criticism - it's pure, unbridled nastiness, and it's totally unpleasant to be around, not to mention completely unprofessional. Upon reflection, I realized that Janet Kazanjian is Armenian and Yola is Russian, so that explains the animosity; historically those folks aren't too fond of each other. If you want sloppy fillings and a dentist who yells at her assistant across your body the whole time you're in the chair, this is the dentist for you! I am so sorry I believed the 5 star reviews on this website and went to this dentist because her work is not good. She did such a poor job with my fillings that my bite is now unbalanced and I have a lot of jaw pain. I have to pay another dentist to fix it and he was horrified by what he saw. The white fillings she put in are very thick so there is no contour on the top of my teeth. They look strange and fake. These are lower teeth so they are visible when I laugh. In addition to being unsightly they have destabiized my bite. She also put a cap on one of my teeth which is very poorly fitting and I need to have that replaced as well. The best thing about this place is the dog - adorable and sweet and a good therapy pooch for people afraid of the dentist. Dr.Kazanjian and Ida are nice to patients but nice is not a reason to choose a dentist. And she is definitely not nice to poor Yolie. Yikes! It's uncomfortable and unprofessional the way Dr. Kazanjian talks to her. Do not go to this dentist. read more

Dr. Kazajian is one of the worst and unprofessional dentists I have ever encountered. She id a cap on one of my front canine teeth and it fell out. It had to be extracted due to her shoddy work and I had a gaping hole in my mouth, She and her assistant were constantly bickering and her dog was always on my lap which my doctor said was unhygenic. She wanted to yank EVERY one of my teeth out and give me dentures! I went to 5 other dentists for a 2nd opinion and they basically said that this was insane and what kind of lousy dentist was this? I would recommend her to NO ONE and feel she needs to retire. She once tried to extract a tooth and lacked the strength to do it and I suffered for one hour straight while she tried than had to break the tooth down. Just goes to show you, you should take Yelp with a grain of salt. Everything you've heard is true. -- Dr Janet is nice enough although a bit crabby -- she and her assistant DO constantly bicker while they are all up in your mouth. -- The assistant IS lazy and clumsy and A SMOKER (yes - she breathes her awful smokers breath right into your mouth - YUK!) -- She messed up a simple filling, leaving a huge hole in the back where food keeps getting stuck in - leading to another issue I now have to repair. I love Dr. Janet...I've been going to her for years. Her and Jolla have a hysterical relationship...of bickering and humor. Janet is a tough educated Doctor and Jolla is just a bit slow on thinking ahead of Janet. I laugh at them bickering...to me it's a comedy act that I love. They are the most caring painless group of compassionate people that have ever cared for me and my teeth. I highly recommend Dr. Janet and her staff. I've gone to Dr. Janet for about three years and have always been very satisfied with the experience. She's old school in the best sense -- not a lot of fancy equipment, nothing to sell you -- just the benefit of years of experience and her practiced hands and eyes. The receptionist, Ida, is a sweetheart, and the hygienist is super thorough and kind. I recently moved, however, and might begin looking for someone new, primarily because, as other Yelpers have noted, I can't stand the way she bickers with her assistant. At first, I assumed that her assistant was new and they were just working out the kinks. Then, at one visit I inquired how long she had been there and was surprised to learn it was several years! Why Dr. Janet, who comes across as so competent and no-nonsense wouldn't find a new assistant who she thinks is reliable and she can trust, is a great mystery to me. I suspect it's because she doesn't want to fire her, which I take as a sign of her fundamental kindness, but it definitely creates an unprofessional environment which, for the patient, is uncomfortable and even worrisome. It seems Dr. Janet doesn't trust her assistant to do the right thing, and as someone else noted, she is a smoker, (the assistant) which I also find unpleasant. Anyway, I meant to give Dr. Janet a good review -- well deserved -- and I love her little dog which scurries about the office and, only if you're willing, will sit in your lap during an exam. But I do think potential patients should be forewarned if they have anything set up that's more than a cleaning and routine exam, they're likely going to be subject to the odd dynamic of this uncomfortable relationship. One last thought... for Silverlake, great location! Pop across the street to La Mill or browse at Yolk afterward for a treat. read more

I am new to Los Angeles and was very nervous to find a new dentist when i had extreme mouth pain a few weeks ago. Upon a yelp search, i found Dr. Kazanjian and decided to give her a call. She told me to come right in and she would help get me out of pain. i was surprised by how quickly she was able to get me in - which was needed as i was in pain for days prior to my appointment. Her office is cute, quaint and in one of my favorite parts of SilverLake - they even have the most adorable little puppy that greets you upon checking in. I felt immediately comfortable. They took me right back, numbed me up and started the procedure. Turns out i needed my tooth pulled entirely. Dr. Janet was so sweet - gentle and informative. They listened to my needs, was cautious with me (i have anxiety problems) and made me feel very comfortable about what was going on. Her biggest concern was getting me out of pain and helping me without breaking my bank. I went back yesterday for the tooth extraction and i was very very nervous (ive never had much dental work done) but, again, upon walking in, i felt at home and not as nervous as i thought i would be. The extraction was easy and Dr. Janet (as well as her assistants) were so sweet and helped calm me down. Dr. Janet is about the age of my grandmother - which honestly made me relax a lot more. i mean no offense by this - it was just nice to have someone so sweet do something so knarly!! the small gestures (talking me through things, letting me take breaks, even touching my cheek nicely when it was all done - telling me i did well) almost made me cry from happiness. I can honestly say ive never had a better experience with something so painful, expensive and scary. I will be back to this office for all my needs - hopefully not TOO much though. Dr.Kazanjian is an awesome dentist. My family and I have been to many dentist, and have never been satisfied untill we found Dr.Kazanjian. For 6 years I have been going to this dental office and it is always the same cheerful experience eachtime. The dental team there are very kind and welcoming. You can just sense its a family unit, and they are quick to include you into their family. Dr.Kazanjian has done two fillings on me thus far, and I have had no problems. Each time she gave me the dreaded shot, it was painless. Dr.Kazanjian is one of those dentist that instills trust into her patients. She will take the time to explain what she is doing, and why. She is probably one of the few dentist out there who focuses on what is best for the patient, and not for her own gains. You can tell that Dr.Kazanjian absolutely loves dentistry. That passion drives her work, and you can see it in the quality of service she provides. read more

NOOOOO!!! Dr. Kazanjian had been recommended by a friend and is in my neighborhood, so I really had high expectations. Unfortunately, even though I followed her advice for months and wanted to believe she was working in my best interest, I know now that the confidence I placed in her was entirely misplaced. Some of my experiences with her... without explanation she filed across the top of my lower front teeth to 'even out' some chipping, leaving the top of my teeth now at a permanent, very obvious angle...... she refused to work on a loose crown for months, sending me to various 'specialists' for evaluation who kept sending me back to her recommending she replace the crown, meanwhile the root decayed further leaving me with no choice but to have an implant...... afterward it was obvious she was avoiding doing the work to try to protect herself from who-knows-what... a lawsuit maybe? ...... after creating a crown that was smaller than my other teeth and didn't at all match the shape of my other teeth, she tried to convince me just to file down the other teeth to match the crown... luckily I refused to let her do this and after my insistence and a rigorous battle she unhappily agreed to have the crown remade. As stated in the other reviews, she is SO verbally abusive to her assistant it's unbearable... if someone can treat their assistant like this, they surely cannot have respect for anyone else... any time I had a question about a procedure she was defensive and condescending .... this woman's ego and paranoia overshadows her many years of experience and education, a truly disturbing experience that has left me with ongoing, serious dental problems. read more

I have known Dr. Janet for almost thirty years as a patient. I've been reading through some of these reviews and I am honestly quite surprised by any negative comments about her. Or her establishment. Yes, she's old school, but I actually like that and appreciate that about her. She's extremely thorough and spends quality time with each and every patient. She actually performed oral surgery on me many years ago and I've never had one issue. Just improvement. For those of you complaining about the sweet little dog, I have to tell you, you come into contact with more germs on your beloved cell phones than this sweet dog. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a dog in the office. As a matter of fact, because so many of us experience anxiety secondary to seeing the dentist, this little dog really does help to alleviate the anxiety sometimes associated with dentistry. Put down your idiotic cell phones and actually try to engage with other people and this little dog on a social level. I've never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life. As for the comments about her assistants, well, yes, there have been several that have not met her high standards. I'd rather have a dentist with high standards than not. If the assistant is about to do something wrong, wouldn't you rather Dr. Janet say something? It's your health after all. There have several assistants who have just been obnoxious and refuse to follow Dr. Janet's directives. She gave all of these people more than a fair chance. So, get over your entitled I'm so special and important Millennial attitudes and give this woman the praise she deserves. read more

Every dentist I've had in my 32 years of life has caused me pain. I have been going to Dr Kazanjian for about 5 years now and never has she cause an ounce of pain! She's very thorough and honest. When doing dental work she always makes sure I feel nothing and she is incredibly fast. All the ladies in her office are very kind and she has a little dog she has put in my lap when pulling my wisdom teeth to calm my nerves. I also get a Christmas card every year from them. Dr. Janet is fantastic. I have been a patient for about 20 years and have always been extremely satisfied. I actually moved to the westside and found another dentist close by, but he didn't compare and I decided to keep making the drive across town to see Dr. Janet. Funny enough, I decided to get some braces and went to an orthodontist who asked who my general dentist was.
