I've reviewed this dentist before but that has been erased. This dental office is in a shady mall with a spy camera shop. I tried to stay local, but this dentist said that my wisdom tooth could cause infection and cancer. Then he proceeded to get authorization for dental work from insurance. I just came for a regular cleaning. Other dentists I've seen have just days keep it clean. No problem now, but may be get them removed. Obviously, I didn't return. The staff made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in and went above and beyond to help get my insurance approved; they were persistent and kept calling since I was in so much pain. It's time we stop protecting predators. Likely this review will be taken down, but I would like to matter of factly report serious issues of ethics to raise awareness. I have had a great dentist for over a decade. However, I urgently needed a maxiofacial surgeon years ago when I first moved to LA for emergency wisdom tooth surgery. My wisdom teeth were growing in straight and there was enough room for them, but I had pericorinitis that caused a severe infection. The gum would not recede so I decided to have all four wisdom teeth removed. This dentist office was the closet and covered by my insurance. I didn't think twice, thinking an accredited medical professional should be ethical, Suren Chtchyan prescribed drugs that must be taken a day before the surgery and for the day of as well. The drugs put me in such a state I was barely to move unassisted. I was asked to remove my top by his assistants and they removed my shirt while under the influence of drugs. They placed me in a sheer gown where my chest was visible. He said it was necessary for the heart rate monitor. I have asked other dentists if this is common practice and the unanimous answer is that it is not. He also seemed creepy with his assistants many who were young women. Be warned if you're a women who is going in for wisdom teeth removal you may be topless and exposed. I will not remove this review or entertain any response. This is disgusting, unethical behavior and I wouldn't be surprised if he videotaped his procedures. He also was extremely eager to find out what my race was and made comments about my looks. I've been a client for over 5 years. Suren is an extremely skilled and experienced oral surgeon, and I am very happy that I found him. I'm almost 60 years old, and because I didn't go for regular cleanings all throughout my 20s and 30s, I developed so many problems that by the time I was in my 50s, my teeth were literally rotting out of my head! Bone loss, abscess, receding gum-line, cracked roots, etc. But dr. Chtchyan did some amazing things. He was able to anchor 3 implants where my jaw bone was thick enough, and where it wasn't, he did a very successful bone graft. Also I don't have dental insurance, so I am very happy with their prices as it comes out of my pocket. I couldn't find any other dentist who could compete with his prices. Very reasonable and fair, especially for the level of quality and expertise. I also have to say that when you are there, he does a great job of explaining what options are available, how the procedures work, and what to expect. Great staff too! I had an amazing experience with Dr Chtchyan and all the staff at his office. He pulled out all four of my wisdom teeth. During surgery I didn`t feel anything and just fell asleep. Got a wisdom tooth and a molar taken out under sedation here and it was pretty easy and painless! I didn't have any swelling or anything and ended up not even using the painkillers. Took less than 5 minutes to get my stitches out 10 days later. Dr. Chtchyan and the dental assistants are great, but I also want to give a major shoutout to the receptionist! She was extremely thoughtful and clear about everything I needed to expect, gave me reminder calls before my appointments, made sure I had all of the info I needed in regard to payment, recovery, prep, etc. I don't have dental insurance or health insurance and altogether it cost $950 - $250/tooth removal + $400/sedation and $50 for the x-rays/consult. Totally reasonable in comparison to other dentists in the area and elsewhere based on the research I did. Parking is super easy in the lot. Would recommend! read more

Dr. Suren and his team are amazing! I came in with throbbing pain from my wisdom tooth and was (honestly) super skeptical at first but wow! I am very satisfied with everything from the start til the end. He is very busy and a lot of patients seem to be coming in and out at any given day, so that's very reassuring. I paid out of pocket as I just moved and have no insurance but it wasn't too bad. Masha scheduled me for the wisdom tooth extraction the day after my consultation and no regrets at all. They put me under sedation and I didn't remember a thing. It was painless throughout the whole process but of course you'll feel a little discomfort after. I think the highlight of the whole process is how much Dr Suren and his team care for you. They would ask me to come back almost everyday for a 10-15 min check up (at no extra cost) to see how you are healing. No trouble for me at all as I think this is great after care. Before I walked into this dentistry my teeth were horrible. My bottom row teeth were literally fighting for space. It was time to get my wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Chtchyan did a great job removing my wisdom teeth. To complete my smile, they hooked me up with some Invisalign... a year later, I got the perfect smile and my confidence is through the roof. I moved to LA and did not have a primary dentist / oral surgeon. I needed to get my wisdom teeth out and Dr. Chtchyan was the first doctor here who made me feel safe and confident in moving forward with the procedure. When I had my procedure he called me personally the night before and made sure I was aware of all of the steps leading up to the surgery. He was patient, kind, extremely skilled and would listen to how I felt before, during and after the procedure. I have never had a doctor who cared so much about his patients. The WORST. SO RUDE. I have been a patient here since fall of 2018. I did my check up and made another appointment to come back for further work. They called to cancel because, apparently, their office had been robbed??? They said the would call me to reschedule. Months go by and no one calls me so finally, despite the total lack of follow through, I call them Due to the waiting period on my new insurance, I had to wait another 3 months to see them. I sent in my forms through email and called them at least 3 times during my wait period I had been very looking forward to this appointment since my teeth hurt now every day and I told them that I was in pain. Well, the day before my appointment, I happened to be really busy at work and trying to meet a deadline. I had to stay in the office late also so I did not check my texts until 8:30pm Then I see a text from them that they canceled my appointment for not comfirming! REALLY??? Why, if you cannot get hold of a patient's, just assume that they will flake? Why not do the right thing and give them the. Benefit of the doubt?? I remembered about my appointment. Of course I did. I highly recommend Dr. Chtchyan. In fact I already have to some friends who live in the area and they also, all love it here. Reasons being... 1. The staff is amazing. Very friendly and super efficient. 2. If you're with Medical like me you are probably used to endless automative phone holds and extensions numbers etc etc. That's not the case here- when you call their office you actually talk to a person directly, every time. 3. They're always very good to follow up on insurance info on my behalf and have helped me find affordable options around any insurance hurdles. 4. I like that they call or text me to check in before every visitation. 5. Dr. Chtchyan himself is super professional and very helpful and explains what's going on if you ask him. As well as being very skilled and very quick, he truly seems to be an intuitive dentist! My experience: I haven't been to a dentist in far too long so I needed a lot of work done to catch up on 5+ years of no professional dental care. I'm in my early 30's and I keep my teeth well but I had a lot of cavities to fill and 2 wisdom teeth to take out. Dr. Chtchyan got to all the cavities over 6 months. I was happy to space them out a bit since deeper/older cavities can be a little sensitive for a few weeks after filling them. Then I got to my wisdom teeth out, which I was a little nervous to do. But he showed me the Xrays and explained the damage that was happening so I knew it was necessary and honestly, I felt glad to be getting it done sooner rather than later. Top extraction was a breeze but the lower one was deeply impacted and was a little trouble to get out. The surgery took a bit longer than expected and I was in and out- some people/some bodies just resist anesthesia- but they were fantastic throughout the whole process, took their time and were incredible at keeping me calm and getting the surgery done safely. Afterward I was worried because the healing process was a little up & down but Dr Chtchyan and the staff kept me at ease and saw me several times post-extraction to keep any infection at bay and to keep the area clean and healing as best it could. My take: Make sure not to push yourself those first 3/4 days. Lots and lots of saline swishes. Their kindness and patience has been more than I expected. I wish I could find a GP who worked the same way! If you need a new dentist/ a change of dentist/are afraid of dentists / have been putting it off going ot the dentist look no further. One of the most desirable aspects of living in Silver Lake is the community aspect. Even as gentrification forces mom and pop businesses out of their storefronts, this is still a neighborhood, and small business still flourishes. I was reminded of this today when I visited Dr. Suren Chtchyan for the first time. Some background: I have / had a dentist that I love, but they are about 30 minutes away from me. This made scheduling appointments hard. The last time I saw the dentist, they told me that I had a cavity in one of my wisdom teeth and that I should have the tooth extracted. This was about a year ago. I hadn't quite made time for the extraction, and the oral surgeon my dentist recommended is expensive and almost as far away. And the reason I still had any wisdom teeth at all was that this particular surgeon advised against pulling one side and just pulled the other four years ago, thus creating additional hassle and expense. Factor in my travel schedule, the fact that I would need to take a day away from my busy life, get someone to drive me home, recovery time. Ugh. I wasn't feeling good about this situation at all. And when I asked my dental insurance to recommend a closer option, they sent me a spreadsheet with hundreds of doctors on it, leaving me and Google to fend for ourselves. So I turned to Yelp. And there I discovered that there was a highly reviewed DDS / MD close to my house. Very close to my house. Like, three minutes walking slow from my house. Where could this place possibly be? I realized that Dr. Chtchyan's office was in the mini-mall on Sunset and Lucille. I had seen the small, nondescript space over the 18 years I've lived in Silver Lake but never given it a second thought. I called the office and dealt with Marsha, who was quite charming and immediately made time for me and set up an appointment the following day. She also came through with a quote for the extraction that was -- get ready -- less than 25% of what I had previously paid. I showed up at 9am and was in the chair by 9:10. The office is bare bones, but very clean. Marsha flew through my digital X-rays and Dr. C came in to take a look. He was incredibly honest: 'I have extensive training in oral surgery. I love pulling wisdom teeth. Yours do not need extraction. We can monitor the cavities for now and fill them if needed.' Um, yay?! He pulled up another set of X-rays to show me what wisdom teeth that need extracting look like. And we agreed that it would be a good idea to have a cleaning. 'But you don't need a deep cleaning,' Dr. C said, continuing the trend towards honest dentistry. They were able to get me back in for a cleaning an hour later -- just enough time to walk home and eat breakfast. And to my surprise, Dr. C himself did the cleaning. How often does that happen? Overall, everything in Dr. C's office happens quickly and efficiently, and my teeth feel amazing. I had zero pain during the cleaning, and Dr. C and his assistant have their routine down incredibly well. They made sure I knew how to let them know if I needed to spit or wanted a break, and there was not one wasted moment. Completely professional. Overall, the experience was exceedingly positive and put an upbeat spin on my entire day. While the office is short on flashy interior design, I'll take quality, honest dental care any day. Dr. Suren Chtchyan has my highest recommendation. Especially so if you are local to Silver Lake or Echo Park. While many dentists seem to play to social media these days, I find it very refreshing that I have found a dental office that is more concerned with quality dental care. read more

First off the ladies at the front office are incredibly efficient and professional. They always did their best to accommodate my schedule. Since he took my first review down, I'm writing another one because I think people should know what kind of unethical dentist this is. I'm a US Army veteran who's getting medi-Cal insurance while I wait to get on a better insurance. I went to Dr Chtchyan (he's one of the few dentist who accepts Medi-Cal in the area) because a filling had fallen out and my tooth was deteriorating. First of all, from the moment his staff realized I was using Medi-Cal insurance, they treated me very rudely, they were practically laughing at me while I got set up. The dentist treated me very rudely as well. I told him I needed a filling and a cleaning. He rudely explained it would take a month to get insurance to cover me and repeatedly brought up the fact that I was using Medi-Cal insurance, as if it's a crime. I made the appointment anyway because I was feeling desperate and came back a month later. This guy never looked inside my mouth, yet declares when I arrive at the appointment that we're doing a root canal. Excuse me!? Since when and why? I told him I don't need a root canal just a filling, and he became totally aggressive and rude and disrespectful, he was practically yelling at me, and again saying that because of my insurance this was all I could get covered! And his evil little female assistants were snickering at me in the background! You should know I was totally respectful to these people throughout the process. I was so appalled I left immediately and scheduled with another dentist as a cash patient. The new dentist confirmed I DID NOT need a root canal and gave me a normal filling. This CORRUPT WIERDO DENTIST wanted to kill my tooth for NO GOOD REASON OTHER THAN TO GET A FEW EXTRA BUCKS FROM MY INSURANCE!!!! And he treated me like trash for using low income insurance! Why do you accept medical if you obviously think medical patients are trash?! THIS GUYS AN IMMORAL BAD PERSON. And btw I'll put this review back up any time he tries to take it down. The absolute best dentist I have ever had in my 47 years of life, from coast to coast. My biggest problem with all previous dentists has been pain and discomfort with any procedure, whether it was regular cleanings or simple cavity-fillings. With Dr Chtchyan, I have had deep cleanings, wisdom tooth extractions (as an adult), and root canal - all without any pains or discomfort during OR after treatment. The facility is spotless clean and modernized, the staff is friendly and supportive, thorough explanations for every procedure are given before with amazing follow up care after, and his prices are fair and reasonable compared to all others. All the staff in the office was very thorough in the procedure of the operation. The appointment system was amazing, I didn't have to wait too long to get my 4 wisdom teeth taken out. I was able to make an appointment within a week of my x-ray that was done by the same dentist. Dr. Suren is very thorough with what is going to happen during my operation and the aftercare was intensely good. The staff will call you every day to making sure that you are goggling your mouth with salt water every day. They will also call you to see if your in any type of pain and they will make an appointment for you as early as the same-day appointment. One of many things I love about this dentist is that when you call the number that is given on here, they will answer them super quickly without having to go through any type of automated system that other places have, which is super annoying. The automated system to me is super annoying due to the amount that I have to spend on either holding and so on, but this place will never let you down. Operation: While my operation, I was given sedation to make sure that I don't go through extensive pain. I honestly didn't feel any pain during the surgery, and the surgery was honestly super fast and painless. Because I have high blood pressure, my blood pressure went up after the surgery, but the staff was asking me to breathe as hard as I can so that I can bring my blood pressure down. Which it did after a couple of minutes. When my wife walked in to see me, Dr. Suren and the staff make sure that my wife knew what to do for aftercare. Day 1 after surgery: The pain level was high but it was expected after getting 4 of my wisdom teeth out on the same day, but with the medication, I was doing better and better every day. I have to say that eating was extremely difficult but that is also expected, so eating soup, and puree food was extremely helpful and the staff called me to make sure that I am goggling my mouth with saltwater, 1 gallon was the recommended amount that the staff asked me to take. On day 13 since the surgery, The pain level has gone down in extreme amount, so far I am not feeling any type of pain. I have been off on medication for about 3 days now, and my stitches are finally out. While I was taking out the stitches, I was worried that I was going to feel a lot of pain, but honestly, by the time the doctor was cutting the 4th stitching, it was already done. I felt absolutely nothing while the stitches were coming off. Key point: Saltwater is the key to heal the wound as quickly as possible. In terms of eating: I am eating solid food now, (11/11/2020). So overall, I will definitely recommend this place to anyone, because Dr. Suren and the staff were extremely friendly. They will also make sure that your teeth are nice and painless and in amazing shape. Give this place a try. Dr. Suren and the staff will take a good care of you. read more

1 star for nice office staff and 1 star for what seems like a good dentist, but I wouldn't know... ...one of the only offices in my area that takes new Medi-cal dental patients. I saw their great reviews and over looked the waits and other issues. They apparently enrolled me in some program that would expedite my procedures from Medi-cal. I said "ok". I wait SIX WEEKS just to get my cleaning (and presumably another six weeks to fix an old filling that a previous dentist screwed up [extra note: Dentist said it wasn't a dentist issue...but tell that to the piece of plastic my former dentist pulled from my gums a few weeks after getting said filling....I don't seem to have good luck with dentists] ) ANNNYWAY, they call me less than 24 hours from my appt. and tell me whatever they enrolled me in...is no longer valid. I would have to wait another 4-6 weeks for Medi-cal, get my cleaning, then wait another six weeks to get my filling done. I also tried to have my filling done first since...you know...TIME. But was told there would be too much bleeding.....ok....first of all. I floss daily, haven't had a new cavity in over a decade, and never encountered this concern before. Long story short it seems they suck up as many patients as they can for whatever benefit it is too them, without much concern for your timely work. Who knows, I'm sure the actual work is great. But I'm not waiting six months to figure that out. I hope they revise their system...or just simply state that they HAVE WAY TO MANY PATIENCE AND CAN'T HANDLE THE WORK LOAD. read more

A visit that changed life. When I first came to surgeon Suren overall condition of my teeth was so bad that I couldn't really eat normally. I was really lucky that he decided to accept me with lots of work for him to do but they decided to proceed step by step with any radical changes. I took some time and fixing one tooth after another I suddenly felt so much of an energy and belief that I started a gym during the treatment. What can I say my body reaction was something incredible I'd never expect from such a skinny guy like me. With healthier teeth I was able to eat more and gain 8-10 lbs of pure muscles within a short period of time (2-3 months). After another treatment from surgeon Suren and a few more days at the gym I decided to start my own business and make a feature film (hopefully for Netflix) since making movies was always a dream of mine. God knows how but I finished the script that I've been working on since last year. My life has changed and I can feel big changes are coming. I wasn't being able to smile openly since high school because of two of my front teeth weren't straight and more than that was damaged because of the elbow episode in a soccer game. It always lead to fail any casting I've ever attended. Moreover it's very important to any person of any gender to feel confident about ourselves especially if you have a public relation career. I've seen Dr. Suren twice - 2 days ago for removal of my upper wisdom teeth, and 10 years ago for my lower set. BOTH times were painless, during and after. He has the magic touch! The first time I was awake and numbed, this last time I was numbed and sedated with what felt like heavy sleeping pills. It's 48 hours later and no swelling or pain, just a slightly sore upper jaw. I was able to eat and talk the same day. His staff is extremely patient and communicative as I had several questions regarding the process - I have anxiety with anything to do with my teeth. I went to this dentist for a few years getting minor services done, but my front teeth had roughness behind them. He cleaned them and spent 5 minutes. I said why such a quick cleaning, it's not a problem he said. Okay, I thought, he must really know what he's doing. But I continued to have bad breath and a weird taste in my mouth. This went on for some time. Patients depend on the dentist to inform them on what's going on in the mouth. After repeated attempts questioning him, he informed me I had cavities. This went on for over a year. 2 times the hygienist didn't show up for a deep cleaning. Finally I asked him to fill the cavities. No, we should wait, he said. Wait for what? Let's get it done. More waiting while he drug his feet. The next visit he told me my it was too close to the root to fill. More time passes. He informs me I need root canals. Puts in the paperwork for authorization. Make sure you get authorization for the crowns too I remind him. I know enough about dentistry that you don't get a RC without crowns unless you want to lose the tooth. In the meantime I go in to get a back tooth filled and he says, we got the authorization for your root canals, we must hurry before they change thier minds. Change thier minds? Insurance companies don't change thier minds after they agree to pay. I got a hard sell pressure to do it all the same day. What about the crowns authorization I ask? Oh not to worry, one thing at a time. Are you sure, I ask? I can't get this done unless I have the crowns. He reassures me the office is taking care of it. He was very rough root canaling my teeth and I kept feeling pain throughout the procedure. He berated me for flinching and told me it wasn't possible I could feel anything. I was sick for a month afterwards thinking I had the flu. I had draining and pressure in my face and my lymph nodes were swollen. I literally had a hard time getting out of bed I felt so sick. Everytime I tried to blow my nose, my finger placement brought pain, and the bone and canal above the teeth felt weak and painful. My teeth were never the same from over aggressive canaling. He destabilized my font teeth so bad they were loose, and I ended up losing them completely and had to have them extracted by another oral surgeon. I spent considerable money on my dental work so to have this happen devastated me. Not to mention what it does to your face, you never look the same. To invest that much with a dentist and not inform you of any issues that may have played into this, (just to give him the benefit of the doubt) shows a complete lack of care and ethics towards a patient. And I found out later that his office never even put in the paperwork for the crown to begin with. He just wanted the quick money for the root canal. Avoid this place at all costs.
