I adore Dr. Vafaie and her staff. I've done 3 out of 4 fully ablative CO2 laser treatments on my arms and legs, and the results so far have been wonderful. Seeing the improvements with each session lets me know I made the right decision to see her. She listens to your concerns, and gives you room to ask any questions you may have. Very Disappointing Experience, Sharing My Story So Others Can Avoid the Same This was truly one of the worst medical experiences of my life. I'm writing this honest and personal review with only one goal: to help prevent anyone else from going through what I went through. I visited this doctor's office for the first time because I was concerned about two moles. When the doctor came in, she spent no more than 4 minutes with me. She looked at my moles for less than 10 seconds and immediately decided to perform two biopsies. Of course I got scared when I heard that, and asked her what made her took that decision or if there was something serious to be worried about. Instead of explaining, she became irritated and said, "I have too much experience, that's it." I felt extremely uncomfortable with that response. When you visit a specialist, you expect professionalism, communication, and care, not dismissal. Before I could even process or ask for a second opinion, she had already begun removing the moles. After the procedure, one wound was about half an inch wide and the other 1". She didn't close them with stitches, and when I asked if that was normal, she simply said, "No, it's fine, just use Vaseline." Unfortunately, the wounds only got worse. They were painful, bled frequently, and almost became infected. I later sent photos to 2 other dermatologists, who both said those moles didn't appear suspicious to begin with, and were shocked that the wounds weren't closed properly. Some will ask, why you did not go back with her... I just did not trust her anymore It's been almost 6 months now. The wounds have finally closed after many treatments and significant expense on creams and patches, but I'm left with noticeable scars and a lot of frustration. It's deeply disappointing that experiences like this can happen under the care of a licensed doctor. I truly hope anyone reading this takes the time to find a trustworthy, communicative dermatologist who prioritizes patient safety and respect. read more

I went to the Westwood location because I've been having rashes on my tattoos (weird because I've had those tattoos for over a year!). I also get migraines pretty often and Dr. Janet recommended getting Botox on my temples to help with the migraines. I left with couple shots to my temples and one on my bottom for the rash. She said the bad rash should go away completely in 2-3 weeks. Queenie at the front desk was very welcoming when I walked in (I was nervous). The assistant Leyna (?) led me to the room, explained to me what was going to happen and helped administer the shot. Unfortunately my experience here left a bad taste in my mouth. I have had skin scans done in the past where they completed everything in one visit, even as a new patient. That was not the case here. I came in weekly for 3 weeks under her guidance, as she claimed insurance wouldn't allow her to check more than a few at a time. This was a huge inconvenience driving across town in Los Angeles as you can imagine, but being that I wanted to have my moles checked, I obliged, but I wish I had listened to my intuition on the first visit. I had 10-11 moles scraped and removed across these 3 weeks, moles that had never been deemed a problem elsewhere. All of them came back as nothing to worry about. Everything was extremely rushed, and I felt like the staff was more interested in trying to sell me on their expensive products then they were discussing what I was actually there for. When I finally saw my insurance statement and how much she had billed them, it all made sense. I felt like a transaction rather than a patient seeking care. Would not recommend. read more

Completely honest review. Dr. Vafaie was in the room for what felt like less than a minute. Looked at my skin (which never got better from her care, got diagnosed immediately after at a different dermatologist..., ) and told me to use a $70 wound cream - which did not work. Then tried to sell me a $40 face wash when my face wash had nothing to do with my dermatitis. She seems like a nice person, her staff is nice, but she seems more like a business woman trying to sell her line of products or maybe aimed more towards cosmetic procedures than true skin issues. Dr. Vafaie intentionally lied to me that a procedure would not be covered by my insurance. Then, Dr. Vafaie tried to coerce and blackmail me to pay for it upfront even though they are an in network provider with my plan. I eventually got my lawyer involved who threatened legal action against Dr. Vafaie because they kept harassing me for money. This is a doctor who entered medicine for the money instead of for a genuine interest in the wellbeing of her patients. Please do not get scammed or conned by the other 5 star reviews. She is known to use college "volunteers" which she does not even pay to write those fake reviews and then track down and identify patients who leave real reviews (which are often negative) and bribe them with discounts to remove those reviews. Avoid this unethical place at all costs. I wouldn't be surprised if Dr. Vafaie's license gets revoked in the near future. read more

My sister & I both see Dr V for various treatments & all our skin desires! I love going to both locations & always find parking easy which makes everything so much better right! Everyone has been asking me lately "what have you done, you did something, tell us what you did?" As if I've had plastic surgery or something! I've been getting skin scans for cancer my whole life, from different doctors in different towns. They usually do it in one brief session, even if you're a new patient. Not Dr. Vafaie. I was escorted into my office by attractive twenty-somethings and asked if I had any issues, which they noted. Dr. Vafaie swept in like a bomb squad, looked at the mole in question, said it was dark and they should take it off, and left. Her assistants set up, Dr. Vafaie swept in again, removed the mole -- but refused to give me a skin scan. She said this was only the initial consultation and I had to come back. Her assistants tried to sell me lotions branded with the Dr. Vafaie name. Sadly, I went back again. This time the doctor swept in to do the skin scan. As I sat there, she started looking at my left leg, saw two moles and said she should take those off. She again swept in and took them off -- and again refused to do the rest of the skin scan. Why not? "Insurance only lets me remove two moles per visit." She told me to come back. After two visits, she had only looked at half of one leg and done no skin scan. And worse: All of the moles she removed were ones I'd had forever and didn't look any different to me when she removed them. Had she taken another ten minutes to look at, perhaps, another leg or my torso she would have seen dozens more of the dark moles that I've had for decades -- and no other doctor thought should be sliced off. I felt like an ATM machine. She then recommended some Dr. Vafaie creams, but only for a moment because her attractive assistants swept in to do the hard sell, starting with telling me they would put the creams on my tab. The prices were outrageous for tiny amounts. One assistant told me not to worry, they would last me six months. Later when I questioned if she had used the cream herself and it had lasted for six months, she changed her tune: Yes, it does, or maybe 3 months. Later, I went online to see if I could track down the supplier of branded creams and think I did, with the same vague but medical-sounding slogans. I had a suspicious-looking growth on my face and went to Janet Vafaie, MD, FAAD recently. After taking a biopsy, she said it needed immediate attention. I wanted to seek a second opinion. She refused, for absolutely no reason, to give me my records necessary for a second opinion and because of that I had to have my face cut again for a second opinion. Her refusal placed me in further peril adding three months of growth to a cell structure that required prompt action. Not a single doctor or medical professional within the UCLA system or elsewhere has heard of such behavior. They called her and her pathologist, thinking this was a mistake requesting the records necessary for a second opinion. They were refused. We have been advised this is against the law. It most certainly is a crippling dissent of the Hippocratic Oath. My face had to be cut open again just to have a second opinion. And she knew this would be the case. For all the reasons stated above, we are pursuing malpractice avenues and filing a complaint with the state medical board. Please find another dermatologist for your needs.
