DRUNK!?! Unprofessional?!? I've read all the negative reviews on here and some of the good ones. I the first time I saw Dr. Vafaie was about a year ago. I've been to her Los Angeles office and the Malibu office. I live in Malibu, it's very convenient to have a good dermatologist down the street. I have another appointment this Thursday and I'm looking forward it! When I was at her Los Angeles office I purchased a package of 6 peels for $800. I like how careful she is (I don't want hyperpigmentation or any weird consequence of a strong peel), she slowly progresses to more aggressive treatments. She's professional and her staff is genuine. I've been to medi-spas and dermatologists, and a laser facilities in the past, the small talk and insincerity is draining so I'm not a fan of overly nice receptionists and doctors who. It's unflattering and it does feel like their just trying to sell you products. The staff I've interacted with at the Malibu and LA locations seem cool and I always get good vibes from them. They don't just try to sell you products for money, yes, it can be costly but it's also to help you get the results you want faster. I used a medicated cream she prescribed and something else, I can't remember if it was a wash or a lotion, but I haven't had a breakout since. I had horrible cystic acne and lots of scars. Not just pigmentation scars but box scars and other deeper texturized ones. My skin is so clear and smoothed, I don't even wear foundation anymore and I'm a flight attendant! I used to be so uncomfortable on the plane, constantly checking my makeup. Now I just wear blush and lipstick and maybe some tinted sunscreen. What I like about Dr. Vafaie is her consideration for your time and concerns. I don't like to chitchat and waist time but I like to feel good about an office visit. She's full of information and translates it efficiently. She's professional but friendly and just normal, not overly nice or smiley. Her staff; okay so this one receptionist she has was inexperienced or perhaps she just didn't communicate well, she doesn't work there as far as I know but that's my only complaint. I like the two girls that are usually working there, they're great. I do remember seeing Dr. V and her eyes looked glossy but my mom uses drops and her eyes look like that too. She might of been medicating them or perhaps doing aftercare for a treatment she had. She didn't seem drunk at all, she just looked like she has drops in her eyes. I've left bad reviews on yelp, I rarely do nice ones, unless it's like important to me, I don't leave good reviews. But reading the bad reviews on here just make me laugh. It's like leaving a bad review for a painting class because you have poor painting abilities. Dr, Vafaie is a great professional dermatologist, her staff represent her well. I can suggest that her staff refrain from bragging about her education or office services because that happened my first visit and I just shut it down because I didn't want to talk about some derm that I didn't know yet and I didn't really care. It was obnoxious. But besides that she's great and I'm not going to another dermatologist because she's the bomb.com. Give her a try and you'll see results. read more

Dr. Vafaie's products DESTROYED MY SKIN. I came in for mild, but persistent hormonal acne. Our entire exchange was about 30 seconds, and I couldn't understand half the things she was talking about. She couldn't get out the door fast enough. She then pressured me into buying HER line of retinoid, and a topical spiranalactone. She advised to use the retinoid every other night, and the spiranalactone every night. After 1 week of this, my skin became absolutely RAW. Weeks later, I am still trying to get rid of the residual flakiness on my skin. DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR! read more

I went to Dr. Vafaie because of redness and itchiness I'd been having around my mouth and nose for the last three months. She didn't listen to my description of my condition and potential causes. She acted like it was normal acne, despite me never having breakouts like this before and despite the fact that normal acne doesn't itch. Regardless, she gave me a retinol and hydration serum from her overpriced skin care line. She didn't discuss price with me at all, and I was hit with a $200 dollar charge at the register. I'm pretty young (22) and since she all but ordered me to buy the aforementioned products, I thought it was necessary for my treatment. Unfortunately, the retinol made the rash around my mouth severely worse since she confused my rash with acne. I felt taken advantage of, as she used my trust in her degree and doctors in general to sell me her own products while actively worsening my skin. Never going back. read more

The front office staff were rushed and curt, almost rude and the parking situation was terrible. Dr. Vafie was rushed, completely unclear and gave me a jumbled diagnosis, jumbled set of instructions and tried to sell me $70 hand cream on top of the mix of prescriptions that she wrote. She couldn't adequately answer any of my clinical questions in a clear and thoughtful way. I felt like this appointment was a total waste of time and I will need to see another dermatologist. read more

I wish I had read the low ratings prior to making an appointment with this "doctor". Luckily, I went with my gut and did not purchase any of her ridiculously expensive products, or schedule the 5k treatment that she said I would need to resolve the skin issue I went there for. I'm actually annoyed that I wasted $30 dollars on a co-pay for this visit. It's very clear that Janet is only interested in making money and selling her products. At the end of the appointment, all I asked for was a retinoid prescription, since I ran out of mine. Instead of getting me that prescription like a reputable doctor would have done, she had her nurse come in to offer me a 90 dollar serum, and a 120 dollar retinoid from her own line. This is obviously not covered by insurance, so I declined. On top of her seemingly trying to scam her patients, she talks in circles, doesn't answer your questions and cuts you off when you're speaking. I would never, ever recommend. read more

I was having trouble with my skin routine and was overwhelmed with all the products at the products that I've purchased throughout the years. Dr. Vafaie got me on an extremely simple routine with her skin care line. She honestly didn't even push me to purchase her skin care line, and instead mentioned it as an option along with other options. Her skin care line, especially the retinoid, has made a world of difference. I absolutely love the eye cream! I'm VERY picky about physicians. I'm especially picky about dermatologists. I was going to an out-of-network dermie for years but had to stop because my out-of-pocket was insanely high. So, needed to find someone new who accepts my insurance, but someone GOOD at the same time.... tall order? I'd heard great things from my friend about Dr. Vafaie and found out her office accepts my insurance. Green light, I can go! First I have to truthful and mention that my friend always talks about how pretty she is -- Dr. Vafaie, if you read this, sorry to include this in the review... but it's true, she is. I guess some people are blessed with beauty and brains. But her being pretty is actually important to mention because she, being female, understands the importance of scarring and how it might affect a lady's self esteem. I had the unlucky report that a couple of very small moles I've had most of my life were actually abnormal -- not cancer, but abnormal. Nothing to worry about if I nip them in the bud now. So, that's what I had to do, get them surgically removed with a decent margin to prevent them turning cancerous in the future. That also means I'm looking at having a scar about 2 inches long, on my shoulder which will show when I wear strappy tops or my party dress. Dr. Vafaie is a great surgeon. As much as I absolutely hated the idea of going under the knife, she made me feel comfortable. She kept telling me the procedure was no big deal and that the rogue mole was not a big deal too. This put me more at ease (although I still get a bit anxious about having the excisions -- I freaking hate going under the knife!). Dr. Vafaie was sweet about my being nervous and let me chat away while she was working, which helped alleviate my stress. So now, one of the wounds is healing and it looks great. I'm very impressed with how smooth the scar is even after just 2 weeks. More importantly though, she took a GOOD margin and the lab report came back as "clean." I'd recommend Dr. Vafaie to anyone who's looking for an extremely competent, well-informed dermatologist. What I especially appreciate about her is that she doesn't push anything on me, including medication. I've had dermatologists in the past pressure me to take various meds and sneer when I refused injections, but Dr. Vafaie is cool with my preferences. I also found out that my previous dermatologist was using decades old technology (a "punch" biopsy) which no one uses anymore. Now they test your iffy spots by simply slicing it out and no stitches are required. Much more comfortable and leads to less scarring. I'm very pleased with my choice and intend to continue seeing Dr. Vafaie. Her friendly manner and expert skill are a breath of fresh air and she genuinely cares about the quality of her services. p.s. Try parking in the residential neighborhood south of Wilshire. I've found free, 2-hour parking every time I've visited, only 2 blocks away. read more

Dr. Vafaie is a great dermatologist and I would highly reccomend her to anyone in the LA area. I go to her for ALL my skin issues. I've had a mole on my shoulder for years now and have been afraid to remove it. On my first visit with Dr. Vafaie, she removed it for me! She is super sweet and comforting. She answered all my questions and gave me instructions on how to care for the wound to prevent any scarring. I really want to note something that sets Dr.Vafaie apart from other dermatologists; the personal attention she gives to all of her patients. I felt like I was in great hands (no pun intended). She followed up with me the day after and 2 weeks later to see how I was doing. There is no scarring on my shoulder and show it off all the time! No more icky mole! Dr. Vafaie has also previously treated my acne and put me on an acne medication (Atralin) . My skin looks and feels amazing! She knew exactly what she was doing and she is just awesome! I love her! I recently went to Dr. Vafaie for my 12 year old son, who developed a bad rash... all over his body, I was worried about it, hoping and praying it was not scabies...(ewww) . I explained to her his symptoms and his current visit to the Urgent care for Spider bites which he had been prescribe a antibiotic and it turned out he was allergic to the meds which gave his the rash all over his body.. Dr. Vafaie is awesome. I've had eczema since I was a child. I thought the move to LA had mostly cured it until last year. I started getting what looked like zits all over my face and I never had an acne problem. Dr. Vafaie did inform me that it was indeed eczema and prescribed me face cream which was very safe, even for children.. and it cleared right up! I also went to her for cysts, quick and painless injection and they vanish. I'm pretty much in and out during office visits and always come out very satisfied and I trust everything she prescribes me and all of her advice on how to help my skin. read more
