The owner is incredibly sweet and genuinely happy to serve every guest, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and amount of food you receive. Everything we ordered was delicious--from the bulgogi, fried chicken wings, and spicy tofu soup to the raw marinated shrimp. Every dish was flavorful and satisfying. The spicy raw marinated crab was $50 for an order, and while it looked like an excellent value with a generous portion, I was simply too full to try it that evening. I will definitely be back just for the marinated crab. They also happily refill the banchan as needed, which is always a nice touch. Seafood pancake Advertised in photos as crispy, less flour, and a lot of shrimp, the actual pancake was the complete opposite and highly disappointing. Seafood tofu soup Like two pcs small shrimp and a few mussels. Too salty in my opinion, and for the price it was too small. Galbi Overpriced, too salty, and no char flavor. Lots of garlic flavor and too much fat on the cut. Bibimbap I got the stone pot and there wasn't even enough oil to make the rice crispy. There wasn't any flavor except the sauce, and everything was just super dry. I liked the ingredients but they weren't seasoned separately or anything. Also, my egg was crazy overcooked. Banchan was very meager but they refill. Lastly, we ordered a beef noodle dumpling to-go and they forgot the noodles. Had another enjoyable lunch here. I had my usual (Yukgaejang). Nothing stood out, it seemed to be more watery (not much substance, not that much flavor) than I remember. We did get one fewer banchan dish than last time, but nine is still more than you get at some places. The banchan serving sizes seemed a bit small for four, but we were asked if we wanted anything more, so I'm sure we could've had refills if we'd wanted. My husband had the veg Dolsot Bibimbap. He enjoyed it (it came with a bottle of Gochujang sauce, so he could add as much or little as he wanted). He did miss the Nurungji a bit (oddly, there was none). Everything tasted pretty good. The Galbi tang and ribs had good flavor. The beef in the soup was very tender and there was a good number of pieces of beef in the soup. I came during dinner time & it wasn't too busy, so I got seated right away. They had a great variety of banchan kimchi, pickled radish, cucumber, mac & potato salad, glass noodles & fish cake. I love when a Korean restaurant serves good banchan, and theirs didn't disappoint. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap, which comes in a hot stone pot. Nice and clean looking to. We were greeted and seated right away. The menu had pictures and was big and two sided. The waitress brought us water right away as we looked over the menu. We ordered the Galbitang, which was beef short rib soup. It was really good. It had a lot of stuff in it and the beef was yummy. We had the LA Galbi and it had large pieces of meat. Very good quality and i liked it. We tried their fried chicken. It had a different batter then we were used to. But it was a bit dry. Just ok. There was so many crabs that came in the order which is really rare to find, especially for that price. Also, they had one of the best banchan assortments I've seen (the apple salad, sweet potato, japchae, and seaweed were my favs). The restaurant was empty when we went on a Tuesday night an hour before closing, but I really hope that by writing a review, a hidden gem of a restaurant like this gets more business. My partner and I got the haemul pajeon/seafood pancake, soy sauce raw marinated crab and galbitang. I think I was most impressed by the seasoning of everything, including the bachan. Everything was seasoned to perfection - nothing tasted overly salty or bland. The food came out quick and the staff was attentive and incredibly polite. Hubs and I have been wanting to give this place a try and to our surprise they were opened Christmas Day! The space is fairly big and I believe their cooks are Korean so the food is authentic. 23 ordered their seafood pancakes, dolsot bimbimbap with pork and galbi. Seafood pancake - very crispy and packed with seafood! I wish there was more green onion though. It's also a much smaller portion than other Korean restaurants in the area. Dolsot - such a fun experience! We usually make this at home so we've never experience being served in the clay pot, but I was a little disappointed that the pot wasn't hot enough to scorch the rice and most of the toppings weren't even luke warm. It was a great portion to split though. Galbi - delicious! The marinade was very tasty and the meat was caramelized. Service was quick and attentive. The manduguk was pretty decent. Flavored very well but not salty. I liked the large dumplings. I think they're home made which is a big plus. Service was good. They came by and gave us water refills. A hidden gem. I've lived in the area for 20 years, and about 4 years ago moved to the Bay Area. My only experience with Korean food was just Korean bbq. Recently I have come to love most everything Korean food has to offer. Everything I try is just so good. Anyways, I was in the area for the day, floating down the river. We were starving and we all agreed that we could all do some sort of Korean or Chinese food. We did a Yelp search and came across this gem. We ordered the seafood pancake for the table. I thought it was good, crispy and crunchy. They brought a bunch of side dishes that were all really good and they were in top of making sure we got more if we wanted. I ordered the beef tofu soup, this is one of the best soups I've ever gotten. Even a day later I'm still thinking about this soup. I let everyone in the group try a bit, and they all agreed I had ordered the best thing on the menu. The rest of the group ordered different versions of Bibimbap, they agreed that without adding a sauce there isn't much flavor. The service was awesome. The ladies were very nice, and even made accommodations when requested. They made sure that we had plenty of side dishes. They even packed my soup for me. It tasted homey and accompanied the meat perfectly. The galbi jjim was a highlight. It came with potatoes, mushroom, carrots and onions. Perfectly spicy perfectly sweet. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Saturday. The restaurant is pretty big and likely no wait. There were a handful of other parties dining in and a couple of to go orders. 10/02/24 Happy Wednesday Yelp fam! Been catching up on my Korean dramas...and starved craving Korean food! I remembered having some really good great Kalguksu in SoCal and I was wondering if we had any in the area...and ended up finding this hidden gem on Yelp! We made the 30 min trek out to satisfy my noodle craving. While on the way, I had the option of getting on a Yelp waitlist or making reservations through Yelp. 6:45 part of 4 it is. The pictures at the front of the establishment and on the walls and menu makes everything look delish! We grabbed some corn cheese to start, Kim chi fried rice as kids love mixing in the two together. The corn cheese was so good, we ordered a 2nd serving! Ban Chan spread was so colorful. A few of these side dishes were more on the pickled side than I would liked. Oldest son picked the daeji bulgogi (spicy marinated thin slice pork) as his usual go to. It did not disappoint. Youngest ordered the Seafood Soon Tofu (mild) as his usual go to and he really liked it. Hubs and I shared the Yukgaejang Kalguksu (spicy beef noodle soup) . The Noodle texture and medium spice was on point! I was a tad bummed they only had a seafood option and spicy beef option and was hoping for a chicken option. The bowl is also huge! As someone who absolutely loves Korean food, I'm annoyed with myself for not knowing how many delicious places there are in Sacramento. Granted, it's based on the very small sample size of a half dozen spots or so, but the vast majority of them have been awesome! Yet, at the same time, you could argue it's not the worst thing either. After all, if I had even known about just one of these joints ahead of time, there's a non-zero chance I wouldn't have bothered exploring what else !'ve been missing out on! Since both of our visits to Jang Su were to grab a semi-late lunch, I can't speak to what the typical wait is like during peak hours. However, while I wouldn't be shocked if there usually is a line, I can't imagine it being very long, given how they have a bunch of tables that can accommodate groups large or small. Similarly, the menu is equally as expansive, as there's a ton of enticing offerings to choose from. Across their entire slate of appetizers, BBQ meats, tofu soups, bibimbaps, soups/noodle soups, jeongols, and house specialties are dishes that range from the traditional to the more unique. -- BANCHAN Nothing overwhelmingly stood out (not that they ever need to), but nothing was a miss either. Personally, I thought the japchae and kkakdugi (radish kimchi were best) while my gf liked the broccoli and bean sprouts the most. -- GANJANG CHICKEN - Soy Sauce Chicken Wings...$18.99 Part of me wonders if the regular fried chicken was the way to go (just looks so good), but this was still great! The batter was thick (but not too thick) with a decent crunch and the chicken itself was juicy. What's more, I really liked how the sauce/glaze wasn't too sweet nor too gloppy. -- YOOKGEJANG KALGUKSOO - Hand Cut Noodle Soup with Spicy Beef...$19.99 Not that I thought this would be small, but this was way larger than I thought it'd be! The soup itself packed a delicious punch with just a touch of heat, the noodles had a very nice bite to them, and there was a good ratio of shredded beef to the mix of vegetables they dropped in. Yum! -- HAEMUL KALGUKSOO - Hand Cut Noodle Soup with Seafood...$19.99 Compared to the Yookgejang, this felt a lot lighter, but no less tasty. The noodles were just as good, the broth had a nice seafood flavor that wasn't too salty, and the seafood itself was great! Plus, even though they didn't add a lot of flavor to the broth, I liked texture the strips of egg added. -- HAEMUL PAJEON - Seafood Pancake...$18.99 Not too shabby, but more solid than spectacular. The portion was pretty fair and the pancake was full of green onions and chunks of seafood. However, the texture was uneven - the edges were crispy (yay), portions were nearly burnt, and the inside of the pancake was a bit loose and soft (boo). -- GALBITANG - Beef Rib Soup...$23.99 Not bad, but not as good as my favorite over at Modurang. The chunks of beef were big, tender and meaty, and the portion overall was generous, but the soup fell a little short for me (a little thin and the taste wasn't super beefy/flavorful. -- BUDAE JJIGAE - Spicy Stew with Kimchi, Ramen, Spam, Sausage, Cheese, Mushrooms, and Tofu...$18.99 Love that they have an individual portion of this! While the taste of the soup wasn't very strong, I loved how loaded this was! There was a good amount of SPAM, bacon, and tofu, which were all huge chunks. This may not be the best version I've had, but it was definitely one of the most filling Despite how not everything we had hit the mark perfectly, the thing that undeniably did was the service. Throughout both of our visits, the women that work were ridiculously sweet and kind. They happily offered suggestions on what to get, checked on us often, and even proactively refilled some of our banchan dishes. What's more, they even stopped to chat with us at times, which was really cute. Given how awesome the service is, a large part of me wanted to round up from FOUR AND A HALF STARS, especially after my first visit here, but I ultimately decided to round down after the second (though, it was painfully close). That being said, it wasn't due to anything being "bad". Rather, as much as we thoroughly enjoyed what we had, none of the dishes specifically blew us away. It's been a couple of months since I have last been here because I moved across town and it's safe to say I still love the food. The service is still amazing and the ambiance is great. Super clean and low key. Loveeee this place. Recommend for the food and the amazing servers. First Korean place I have been to where they asked if we want more side dishes! Really good hearty Korean food here. We got the army stew, corn cheese and seafood jigae. I liked how you can tailor the spice level here. The corn cheese was good and not drenched with mayo. The army stew was good and it was a little unique because they added bacon which gave it a little smokey flavor. It didn't have cheese though. I think with cheese it would have been even better. They give a good amount of side dishes here which was fantastic. Many places just give just a few but we had a lot. Will definitely come back. Want to try their seafood pancake next time. read more
