    Braised beef short rib
    Ann H.

I specifically dined in to try the braised beef short ribs. Of course I had to add cheese. Some of the ribs were still chewy and not fall off the bone tender. I loved that this dish included potato's, carrots, onions, rice cakes, and mandu. I asked for spicy sauce; however, the sauce tasted more sweet with barely any spice. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the ribs. The Bossam and the spicy tuna Kimbap was perfectly delicious. No complaints with these dishes. The corn cheese was just okay. Overall, this was a good dinning experience. Will return for the short ribs in the future.

My wife picked the place for going out with some friends. We had a reservation. We arrived on time and the place has a parking lot. we got a spot right in front of the place. Inside they had a long couch area to wait in. It was nice. The place was really open and kind of blah looking . They had some wood paneling on the back wall. The counter was in the middle of the room with a showcase that had I think Kimchi to take out. There were quite a few tables taken. It was a nice size dinning area. We told the server/hostess that we had reservations. She had to set up a table for us and we waited for a few minutes. That was fine since our friends were parking. We were seated to one side along the window. The menu was a cool cut out of their name. Pretty neat. The menu had a lot of pictures of the food which was nice. They had a nice selection and not over board with too many foods. The prices were a bit higher than other Korean restaurants. I hope the price would bring great quality. We were going to do family style since there were four of us. But one didn't want to but we still did family style. We ordered the La Galbi, Grilled Pork Belly and the Galbi Tang. They brought us the Banchan. The small dishes. Kimchi was really good and spicy not bad. They had fried tofu and it was very tasty. I liked most of them. My wife's friend got the Original Soon Dudu which is a soup. She really enjoyed it and it was good. She got it with mild spice and it was ok since she doesn't do spicy. So the Galbi Tang came out first. The soup it came with two beef bones. The server didn't bring us scissors or any type of knife. We peeled off the meat with the spoon but the meat was too hard to spit with the spoon. The server/waitress was really busy. So I took out my own knife and cut up the beef. The soup was not bad, we enjoyed it. There was only one waitress/server for the entire place. There were two people bringing out the food and cleaning the tables. Service was lacking because of this. The place was pretty busy and she had to serve all of the tables in the place. Not very good and she barley had time to check on us. I had to get up and go to the counter to get some stuff. The La Galbi came out and it was nice . the meat was cooked properly and good to go. Not much sizzling going on though. :( Lastly the pork belly came out. The worker that brought it out told us to be careful because the plater had a sterno burning inside and it was sizzling. The pork was hard and over cooked and they were cooking it more with the sterno cartridge underneath. This is when I had to go up to the counter. The server was answering a call and I waited to tell her about the over done pork belly. She later came over and asked if we wanted anything else. I told her we just wanted the pork belly but not over done. She said it would be a little while before they could make another one. I told her it was fine since we wanted some pork. The pork belly came out and this time they didn't have the sterno and it just was plated on a grill. I looked at it and some of it was burnt. We all tried it and it was still over cooked and some of it dry. It's supposed to be pork belly and this was like just pork. The server later came over and asked how it was and I told her it was still over cooked. She they told me that was the way they made it and no one else ever complained. Wow !! She left and then came back to ask what we wanted to do with the pork. Did we want to take it off the bill of not? I just told her to do whatever she wanted to do. When we got the bill she left it on. My friend picked up the bill first and was kind of shocked that she left it on the bill. I wasn't , I was shocked at her comment to us. Hopefully they do better on their service in the future and get more staffing. We will see if they make it in the future. For the prices they want I just don't think it's worth it right now.

Hankki has been on my list to try for awhile now and finally had the opportunity to go. Went on a Saturday around 5pm and luckily we only had one party in front of us. You have to write your name down when walking in, it should be hanging on the wall. For the food, we ordered the mixed soon dubu which is beef + seafood and we ordered the braised beef short rib w/ cheese which is $5 extra. The soon dubu came out first and it was incredible. So much flavor and the portion size is pretty big. That might have been my favorite dish. The braised beef came out next but they forgot to put the cheese on it. It took awhile to get one of the employees attention to let them know. Once they added the cheese, we started to dig in. The beef was so tender and you could taste the sweet soy sauce. Overall a great experience and I would definitely come back again. Thank you so much Hankki!

Arrived as a party of 5 for lunch on a Saturday. A few of us requested hot tea before realizing this is a charge of $5 ... so please be aware. Most Korean restaurants do not charge at all for tea. Ban chan (side dishes) were all especially delicious which is always a good sign to come. We ordered tuna kimbap ($10), bossam ($46), and bibimbap ($23). All incredibly delicious with a high price point (but to be expected these days for Korean cuisine) The restaurant is still in its soft opening phase, so I'm willing to give some grace--but the service definitely needs improvement. We requested extra banchan three separate times before it finally arrived at our table. It was pretty clear the request had been forgotten, but when it was eventually brought out, the server acted as if it had been intentionally delayed for preparation. That response felt off-putting. A simple acknowledgment would have been much more appreciated, especially since the situation was quite obvious.

    We hungry!

We came in hungry and left satisfied! Their portions are pretty big. We ordered too much but that's okay....leftovers for dinner! I tried bossam for the first time which is basically pork belly served with sides of kimchi, napa cabbage, daikon paper, daikon kimchi, garlic, jalapeño, two sauces, and two servings of steamed rice. You can eat it however you want. It's enough food for 3 people. I definitely recommend that if you're really hungry. We also ordered bibimbap and kimchi pancake. Also delicious. Service was great. Everyone was very friendly.

Stumbled upon this place for lunch while looking for the best KBBQ in Sactown. We ordered the LA Kalbi lunch, Mandoo, and Tempura. The Kalbi was very good, perfectly grilled and tender the Mandoo was yummy, it came with a tasty dipping sauce The tempura was okay, too many sweet potato pieces. I Loved all the Banchan side dishes, so fresh and flavorful. I really hope this place does well! Great food with decent prices! I can't say that too often anymore The Owner was really nice and accommodating Looking forward to trying the Soups!

Service could have been better and the sides were not too bad, I really liked their eggplant banchan for sure. Food overall was alright, something different to go to compared to some other spot. Portions were good size to feed a couple people which was nice.

I heard about this new place and wanted to try. Not sure how long this place has been opened for. Came here with some friends, four of us. I made reservations just in case, not sure how busy it was on a Saturday night, but we usually do an early dinner. Our reservation was at 5 pm and the place was not busy. At first glance of the place, there were tables not cleaned and a few customers that occupied some of the tables. The server told us to wait a few minutes to set up a table. I guess they don't set up table reservations ahead of time. We decided to order a variety of things off the menu and do family style. We ordered the Galbi Tang, Grilled pork belly, and some BBQ Galbi short ribs. Both of the Galbi tasted good. The soup was flavorful and there were two big bones of short ribs in the soup. There was not much of glass noodles in the soup, though. Very little, a few strands. Not sure why. I really liked the BBQ Galbi, it had nice flavor and it was cooked to the right temperature. The meat was tender. The grilled pork belly that came on a hot plate with a lit sterno was not good at all. The pork was very over cooked. The meat was hard, dry, and chewy. You can't even eat it. We had to tell our server. She offered for them to replace it and cook another. We said yes, but not to over cook it. She told us it would have to wait for it, it will take a few minutes. The replacement pork came and she asked if we wanted the Sterno lit, and we said there's no need for that. Again, the pork was over cooked, but not as bad as the first. This one you can still eat. The meat was dry and chewy. So we just decided choked it down, cause we didn't want to wait for our food anymore. We were done with the waiting. Overall, food was ok, mediocre. There were some cooking issues. I can understand overcooking meat the first time, but the second chance is giving and not corrected. I think the idea for the pork belly presentations is a bust, the grill plate with Sterno is not needed. There wasn't anything special about it. They said it is to keep the pork warm. No need to keep it warm, when the pork isn't edible. I thought some of the pricing for the dishes was a little high. If you are going to charge those prices, the food better be awesome. Service was mediocre, also. Our server was nice, but lacked in being attentive and did not handle our over cooked dish well. She did offer us to replace the dish, but when you mess up the second time, it should have been taken off our bill. She even asked how our dish was and we told her that the dish is over cooked again. I probably won't be coming back again. First impression was a fail.

If you need a break from Korean BBQ but still want to enjoy Korean food then this is your next place to try. I highly suggest you make a reservation as I was able to get seated within 5 mins rather than waiting especially when it's busy. They play great music with plenty of seating available (great for a a date night). The service was great the waiter was awesome in explaining the appropriate ways to eat certain dishes. Food took 15-20 mins to arrive. Service was quick. The iron plate is great if you're looking for something on the more balanced side but still want something filling! Be careful, you can get full because the appetizers come in big portions. Such an underrated Korean restaurant.

Moo the owner said Hankki has been open about 3 weeks now. Not sure what this spot used to be but it is hard to see from the road so use navigation. The interior is casual and service is friendly. We tried the mixed tempura $16. Two shrimp and a large variety of vegges. Soft tofu soup with beef and seafood $20. The soup is warm and hearty but mild spice lacked punch get at least medium spice. I wanted chicken bulgogi but wifey wanted seafood pancakes so I guess I will gave to wait for next time. The seafood pancake is huge and pricey $26. I would suggest offering a half size pancake. The bon chon were all fresh and delicious. We enjoyed this spot and will be back to try more of the menu.

Saturday lunch ~11:30 Specifically visited to buy kimbap from the "grab n go" case. It was empty, except for some kimchi. Couldn't even order it as a dine-in customer since they were too busy and understaffed to make it. Definitely call ahead if you're wanting anything off the grab n go menu just to be sure they have it/can make it. Was already slightly peeved about that but we ordered veggie bibimbap, seafood pa-jun and chicken bulgogi. Took about half hour for the food to arrive. If it wasn't for the banchan, we would've been hangry. The food was pretty GOOD. Made up for their shortcomings. Expect a wait and bring your patience as they hopefully improve their operations.

Everything was really good. Their Soon dubu was one of the best I've had in Sacramento area. Service was friendly. We will definitely be back to try their other dishes!

Still a soft opening so there are items on menu that are not available yet. On weekends, they only serve dinner option, no lunch. We ordered a seafood pancake, seafood soondubu, army stew, LA Galbi, corn cheese. Although the seafood pancake had a lot of toppings in it, it was way over fried, almost burnt. The burnt taste covered all the seafood and batter taste so I felt I was just eating over fried chips. I should have asked them to remake that. The seafood soondubu was good. It had a lot of seafood and flavor. The army stew was tasty, but adding cheese and ramen costed extra. LA Galbi was flavorful and cooked pretty well, not a lot of fatty pieces. I did think this place was slight on the pricier side. There's no grill for k bbq here so just regular Korean food. Wanted kimbap but they said they didn't make it this weekend.

Once we got to the restaurant we noticed a few people waiting in the lobby ahead of us but considering what night it was,I was fine with it.We ended up waiting about 20 minutes before we got our table. I will admit fully I have zero expertise at Korean restaurant, outside of occasional visits to a BBQ spot but at traditional sit down Korean restaurant,I was out of my element.Luckily for me,the daughter has spent multiple weeks in Korea thru her military service,so I felt like I was in good hands-I let her have total control of what we were eating that night, that wasnt easy for me to do. We ended up going with Fried Chicken in spicy sauce($22.95)-Seafood Fried Rice($18.95)-Soft Tofu Stew($17.95)-Hot Stone Beef Bibimbab($19.95),which along with the courtesy banchan was so much food-but I'd never been to this restaurant-I wanted to try some things. To drink we ended up going with some Blackberry wine($14.95) and my daughter went with a Milkis($1.95) drink-I just went with water but I did have my eye on some Soju, but decided against it since I wasn't sure what I was up against "food-wise". Once the food arrived which was lightning quick-I was in heaven, the 11 small dish banchan along with our dishes,I can't tell you which was best because everything I tasted was on point and kept getting better and better. My bibimbap was so fun to eat-I enjoyed the act of mixing it all up before trying it-was so tasty. The tofu stew came out piping hot and the flavor profile was like nothing I've had before-it was super enjoyable. If I had to say though, the star of the meal was that fried chicken in spicy sauce-holy smokes-large pieces of chicken drowning in the spicy sauce,it was a flavor overload that I couldnt get enough of-I loved them-I think I ate 80% of them-sorry wife and daughter-I couldnt help myself, they were awesome,I'd always heard how good Korean chicken was but now I can vouch for it-it's really really great-do yourself a favor and get this dish-it's awesome. In closing,if you ever find yourself in the mood to try a traditional Korean restaurant in the Sacramento area,I would without a doubt recommend Modurang Korean restaurant-it was a pretty amazing place and I'm glad I tried it-hope you feel the same way if u try it one day. PS-forgot to mention that Blackberry wine was delicious-another surprise of the night-very enjoyable.

Why else would young people want to hang out in a place with no other people with low quality food being served? It felt like no effort was put in the food prep. The yellow marinated daikon that came with the ban chan was so sour it had to have been expired. The 3rd table looked like they were patiently waiting for service. We had to escape before John Tapper came in throwing plates in disgust. Is this a business or a place to hang out for the family and/or friends of the owner? Hopefully, this episode has a redemptive ending. For now, I'll go elsewhere.

I recently came with friends to Pine Tree House and it did not disappoint!…read more The banchan selection was generous with a nice variety, and everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. The seafood pancake stood out, as it was crispy on the outside, packed with flavor, and really satisfying. We tried various soups, and my personal favorite was a spicy soup that had a variety of seafood including crab, squid, and octopus, and a decent portion of noodles. Solid spot with great portions and comforting dishes!

Really good! We enjoyed a dinner for four and ordered the fried chicken wings, seafood tofu soup,…read moreand japchae (stir fried noodles). Their fried chicken wings were crispy but not the usual KFC that I've had in many other restaurants. I'm not sure that we would get this dish again, but my daughter enjoyed it with the sweet sauce on the side for dipping. The seafood tofu soup came out bubbling hot (but with no egg to crack into the soup) and had a nice sweet seafood flavor. The japchae was as expected and had a nice balance of noodles to meat and veggies. I tend to judge Korean restaurants by their banchan dishes, and overall I think Pine Tree House's banchan dishes were quite flavorful. My favorite was the salad (romaine) with sweet and spicy dressing/sauce. Other solid banchan included the kim chee (with came with scissors for cutting), fish cakes, green pepper, tofu, and bean sprouts. Depending on your taste, you may or may not enjoy the seaweed. The banchan dishes did not not all taste the same (which is a good thing). Service was friendly. They checked on us several times. When my daughter wanted more tofu, I asked if we could have tofu but with no sauce on top, and they had no problems making that accommodation. They had soft music playing in the background and a clean bathroom. As we explore the Korean food scene in the greater Sacramento area, we will definitely keep Pine Tree House in mind for their tasty banchan and friendly service.

They have a variety of different fusion flavors that all tie to Korean cuisine. A must get is for sure their Booty Booldak; other than the fun name lol, it's served with crispy taters and cheese melted on top. I also tried their Kimchi Karbonara for the first time! It was good, but I wished there were more noodles, because we were left with a lot of bacon bits in the end. Our server, Sierra, was so sweet! She was welcoming and friendly, and we even had great conversations with her. She was also quick at serving us and getting what we needed.

Wound up here on a Saturday night for a late dinner and did not realize it's basically a club…read more Like, they had bouncers at the door checking IDs and then we got checked again a couple times during our meal. Apparently that night was their 3 (?) year anniversary, so not sure if this is always the case but they did have a whole live DJ on the main floor. When we arrived there were a couple other tables dining. There isn't much seating inside, and most of the tables ended up being blocked off for bottle service lol Me and my girl were there to eat so we ordered as many dishes as our tiny table could handle! Kimchi Carbonara - TBH this tasted like spaghetti... with some kimchi and bacon. It wasn't bad, but it tasted exactly the way I described it. They should just take the carbonara out of the dish's name completely. I wouldn't order it again, just cause the bacon flavor was really smokey and strong. Spicy wings - These were actually really good! Served with pickled jalapenos, pickled radish, and a cabbage salad! Just make sure you get some rice on the side. The wing sauce was spicy! Not overly, but just enough. It was sweet but not too sweet. I would recommend! Mandu- Decent. Not spectacular, but a good side to round out your meal. The dipping sauce was yummy, a nice sweet soy. Pink Venom - The flavor was so good. Tasted like a pink starburst. If you like sweet drinks, this one is it! Didn't taste the alcohol at all though. Parking sucks so bad, we had to park a couple blocks away and cross some train tracks but we made it! The waiters were so nice and checked up on us even with the whole party going on. The bouncers though didn't pass the vibe check and I didn't really like that we got IDed so many times. We're in our mid 30s lol.. be frr. The whole vibe is fun, they have a full bar and apparently in the back room, it's another bar/lounge scene. It wasn't that type of night for me, but I would come back to eat and hang out if I was in the area. Keep in mind though, the crowd is early 20s!
