First I just need to preface this with the fact that I am a massive lover of cows (and Korean BBQ). I'm one of those people who likes to google the menu before going somewhere (I take forever to decide what I want to eat) and during my google search I saw an article interviewing the general manager as to why it's called Must Be Cow. Apparently the owner wanted the word cow to be in the name, the business partner asked if it really had to have the word cow in it, and then the owner said "It must be cow!" The owner sounds like they share the same love of cows as I do. Now to start, I loved basically everything about this place. It's a large building, super friendly staff, food quality is great, and there is even sushi! Our group got the gold menu, which was $45.99 per person. We had a lot of different things off of the menu, but there were a few standouts. I was surprised by the sashimi unagi. I got a couple pieces to try and that was by far the best one. The Galbi Jumuluk was one of my favorites off of the meats menu due to the delicious flavor of it. It went perfectly with my shin ramen too. The cheese fries were surprisingly different than what I expected. Whatever house sauce they used was a great addition. The sushi was all pretty good except for one that we all couldn't force ourselves to take another bite of. The Summer Roll. All the others we had were good but that one was so unbelievably awful. It was the only bad thing we had all night, there must have been a bad ingredient used in it because it was such poor quality and a sour flavor. The best part was that they had a dessert freezer, so I had to grab a little frozen treat for myself. Overall, Must Be Cow was delightful and I can't wait to come back. Is it a bit spendy upfront? My wife was invited the week before for her bday by a friend and said she needed me there so that she could have tried everything....so we made it happen. I walked in expecting just KBBQ and then I saw the price was like $45 and said DAYUM SON WTF!? Then I saw there was sushi (sashimi at that) available and was surprised.... That being said, sushi was meh at best. Sashimi cuts were absolutely laughable. Sushi rice is hard...almost as if the rolls are pre-made and then refrigerated for speed or something. Meat choices were OK, not great, but not bad. A good overall mix. Grills were perfect, didn't need to adjust the flame all day long. Air vents were amazing, you and everything around you didn't come out coated in grease. What really sets this place apart are the sides/apps. I know, I know, who goes to KBBQ for the sides?! What are you new?! Yeah man, I'm too old to eat for pure value and against the wishes of my culture, it's no longer my goal to make the AYCE spot lose. It's a grill-your-own-meat restaurant, and the beef was wonderfully tender and flavorful. Grilling the meat at the table made the meal feel interactive and enjoyable. When we got to our table, I noticed the table and menu was dirty. I had to asked our server to wipe it down. There is a self serve ice cream and salad bar. Everything else will order from the servers. They have pretty good selections to choose from. Meat qualities were pretty good. Sashimi quality was alright. Flavors for their meats were good overall. For their hand/sushi rolls, they are made to order. After the rolls were made, they placed a label to specify which table it belongs to. Which is fine, but the labels were placed on the top of the rolls, a bit unsanitary in my opinion. We were sitting next to the sushi bar so we saw it. They still give the physical menu, but they also have the iPad to help order all the menu items you want which I think is so helpful because sometimes it's hard to order everything you want off the menu and remember what you want ! I love how they included pictures so you can give a visual idea of how it looks like. Our waitress said you can order rice and drinks from her or if you need anything to let her know. Came here with some friends for lunch on a weekday. For $31, you get AYCE KBBQ which I thought was a really good deal. The meat quality was average, but I liked how extensive the menu was and how it included sushi and great sides. There was also an area where you could get small sides and ice cream. Additionally, I thought that the service was pretty good too. I didn't feel rushed eating even though there was a time limit. Parking was easy as well. Great all-you-can-eat KBBQ and sushi at Must Be Cow!! I love both and have had AYCE KBBQ and AYCE sushi, but this was my first time having them together. I came on a weekend and on weekends, they only offer the Gold menu (their most expensive and all inclusive menu) for $45.99 per person. There was a great selection offered, including sashimi. There was a 90 minute limit and drinks are not included. For sushi, we ordered the salmon, yellowtail, and tuna sashimi, seared salmon nigiri and salmon nigiri. All of the sashimi we ordered were really good and the seared salmon nigiri was the best! For appetizers, I tried the cheese, corn, seafood, pancake, salmon, carpaccio, and wagyu beef carpaccio. I really liked the beef carpaccio. The salmon carpaccio was good but I liked the seared salmon nigiri and salmon sashimi more. The seafood pancake was okay, a little thin. I probably wouldn't order that again. The cheese corn was good and very cheesy. For Korean BBQ, we tried the Australian Wagyu beef karubi , Australian Wagyu beef top round, Galbi, Bulgogi, brisket , garlic shrimp, American Wagyu beef toro, head-on shrimp, and finger short ribs. My favs were the galbi, brisket, shrimp, wagyu beef karubi and wagyu beef toro. I would have liked to try more items, but had to eat sushi too. We also got the BBQ pepper rice and that was really good too. For dessert, we enjoyed the sesame balls and the melon Melona and ice cream cup. It's definitely a splurge and a moment for gluttony. We had a large group of 15+ people arrive on a Saturday night dinner. There was a small wait of about 20 minutes to secure 2 tables. Each table fits 8 adults and it had 1 grill. The seats were a little tight but we made it work. The KBBQ was really good. The meat cuts were high quality, especially the beef and pork. The sushi was high quality and very delicious also. Service was good too. The waiter kept checking in on us and refilled our drinks. Since it was a weekend, only the Gold tier was available which cost much more than the Silver tier. Clean and orderly restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive and explained the menu to us. He came around a couple of times to check on us for additional orders and also to replace the grill midway. A+ for service. The tier defaults to Gold on the weekend. The food quality was good and I felt we got our money's worth. A lot of appetizer/sushi/meat options. The squid salad from the salad bar is a must try. The Pepper Beef Rice was surprisingly very good as well. All of the sashimi as very fresh. I also loved the beef carpaccio. The only area of improvement I can think of was the restroom. I wanted to try this place out and wanted to take my goddaughter here for her birthday yesterday, Friday. It does get pretty busy. We put our name around 6:45pm and got seated at around 7:30 give or take. Service (5/5): Shout out to our server Jessica. She was very attentive and took care of us really well. She was very attentive and made sure we got everything we needed in our table. They had a salad bar where you can get your kimchi, radish wrap, different salads and other items. The restaurant itself is actually pretty large and pretty spacious. Majority of the food was really good. Appetizers: we ordered the takoyaki which was really tasty, the shrimp tempura was good but needs more dipping sauce they barely put some on the plate. We also ordered dumplings and we enjoyed that appetizer as well. We then ordered different sashimi's and nigiri's and they were really good quality. I highly recommend their nigiri's and sashimi. They are very tasty and good size as well. Then we moved to the different meats they had and even that I would say were good quality. The bulgogi was really good, as well as the pork belly and brisket. They also have the option for additional charge for a high quality wagyu, we didn't try it but I saw it on the menu. I was not a big fan of the salmon carpaccio but I wasn't a big fan of it because of the sweet sauce it had. Drinks were $3.50 each which I think is pretty expensive because I got hot tea and for a cup and tea bag it was $3.50. I do recommend this place because they give you the best of both worlds with the sushi and korean bbq. There was enough sushi choices that you can just get that if you dont want the bbq. They have a decent amount of dessert choices. They have ice creams and other rice cake dessert. Also from Friday to Sunday they only serve the Gold Menu. And if you want to celebrate your birthday, it has to be the day of your birthday and if you have 6 parties or more the birthday person gets their meal for free but if there's less than 6 you get $15 off. Overall, the food was really good and our party left full and very satisfied. The food quality was top notch and you can't always expect that from AYCE food establishments. Why did I remove two stars you might ask? The first and biggest one is the lack of transparency on their pricing for the Gold and Silver tier. We'd never been to this restaurant before, so I was looking into this place online as a possible spot for my birthday. I found prices for their Gold and Silver tier on their website: $30.99 and $45.99. OK. We figured we'd opt for the Silver tier for everyone's budget. After arriving and waiting 30 minutes to be seated, we go inside to find that only the Gold $45.99 option is avaliable Friday-Sunday and an automatic 18% tip for parties of 6 or more. We were all understandably miffed and I was explaining to the group that there was no mention of this on their website. I went back and looked since then to confirm. Nowhere on their website is this listed. This is a big thing to miss and honestly I find it completely deceptive. We arrived, already waited 30 minutes, so why try and go elsewhere at this point? Also, no reservations on weekends unless you have $12+ people (per their site). My next issue. At the end of our meal, our server asks if we were celebrating anything. I said it was my birthday on Monday and we were celebrating today (Saturday). He proceeded to tell me that if it was my actual birthday, that I would get a discount and a free meal with 6+ people or more. Honestly, this stung...because a little too late and already after finding out I'm going to be spending way more than I anticipated because of the deceptive menu pricing. Finally, a table next to ours had a cake brought out and singing by the staff. I got none of that. They brought the check and then brought out my cupcakes they put in the fridge and just sat them on the table and left. No plates, silverware, nothing. So my 3 stars are for the food. We went on a Saturday at 5:20 and there was already a line. We waited about 50 minutes for a table for party of two but all tables seem to be made for at least 4 people. Saturdays are Gold menu only. Our server Aiden (??spelling) was very good. Since we had never been there before, he explained the menu and ordering process to us. He also changed the grill for us midway through and checked in on us to see if we wanted to order more. Food was very good and sushi tasted fresh. Somehow found our way to Citrus Heights and Must Be Cow was bookmarked so we had to check it out! We arrived on a Friday for lunch so we had Gold for $46 per person. They have a self-serve bar with side dishes and ice cream options. I was surprised to see a very extensive sushi menu so we ordered the ahi tuna and summer hand roll to see if we liked the taste of the fish. The ahi tuna was not great and I couldn't finish it. The summer hand roll was much better but it wasn't enough to order anything else from the sushi menu. We ordered the first 6 listed in non-marined meats section (beef karubi, beef top round, boneless short rib, rib eye steak, brisket, and pork belly) along with an assortment of veggies. We didn't like the brisket much but everything else was decent. Service here was amazing! We never had to wait too long after placing our order. Our server Alex checked on us very regularly and empty plates were always cleared right away. Overall, this is a very westernized experience of sushi and KBBQ and I don't think I would find myself back here. We have a favorite sushi spot that we always go to, but today we decided to try somewhere new for my husband's birthday. I came across Must Be Cow on Yelp and saw it had great reviews. Boy, were those reviews right! Even on a Tuesday, the restaurant was busy. As soon as you walk in, you check yourself into the waitlist using a computer kiosk and receive a text confirming your spot in line. We only waited about five minutes before being seated. If you're a party of two or three, you likely won't need a reservation. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and well-maintained. We love sushi, so finding a place that offers both all-you-can-eat sushi and Korean BBQ was a huge win. There are also a few fun spots around the restaurant for taking pictures and selfies. The tables were spotless, and I especially appreciated how clean the BBQ grill was. Our server was friendly, attentive, and took the time to walk us through the menu. He recommended a few of his favorite dishes, and my husband went with one of his suggestions and was not disappointed. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The fish was fresh, the sushi was amazing, and the hand rolls were absolutely delicious. The Ahi Tuna Chip was out of this world and easily one of our favorite items of the night. There are two all-you-can-eat options: Silver and Gold. The Gold option includes a larger variety of menu items, and that's the one we chose. If it's your birthday, don't forget to bring your ID! The quality, isn't the best but that's expected, I guess. If you like warm Sashimi and water, this place is for you. Stay away from The cheese fries, it has way too much of their unagi sauce. The shrimp tempura was undercooked. The "shin" ramen was also undercooked and just kimchi and kimchi paste, barely any broth. The beef bulgogi was super thick and barely any marinate. Mother's Day dinner on a Saturday a couple weeks after Mother's Day. HAH! Arrived at 4:30 and it wasn't busy yet, I was quoted 15 minutes for a party of 7. I waited until 5 pm to put my name down and it was still 15 minutes. I put my name down anyways, because the hostess stated she would put me back in around 5:20 for my party that is arriving around that time for l our 5:30 dinner. We waited about 30 minutes and sat at 6pm. We had the nice little back room with 4 booths. It was much cooler back there and less smoke from the grilling. Our server was Anthony, he seemed not happy at first and progressively had better customer service along the way. The employees dropping off the food, one especially was so enthusiastic we LOVED it! I hope he is the shift manager, he needs to be with that customer service. GOLD menu- 39.99- only gold menu for dinner. SILVER menu is $10 cheaper- $29.99a only for lunch. Both menus have AYCE meat and sushi- just different cuts of meat for each tier. I was skeptical about the sushi at first, but it all came out pretty fresh and I did not get sick. I only eat sashimi and I don't eat Nigiri or sushi rolls. I really like their pepper, Finn style sashimi plate plates. No Korean sides like the other all you can eat Korean barbecue restaurants, which I don't mind. There are plenty of appetizer choices to choose from. They do have an appetizer sides self serve bar with kimchi, pickled garlic, ginger and what not. Ribeye was not the best cut but what can you expect when it is at and all you can eat place. But pretty great for ayce. Bone in short ribs were cut pretty thick, but that is my go to when I go to Korean barbecue. Kobe beef was spectacular and so was the beef belly. Pork jowl, I wish it was cut just a bit thinner, but I love it because not every place has it. I wish they had pork intestines, not every place has this either. Pork belly was pretty good. I love that they do not charge for pieces of lettuce on the side. It is a part of the all-you-can-eat menu. All in all, it's not bad and a lot more affordable than other all you can eat Korean barbecue places that cost more and does not taste as good. This place opened up late last year and I'm glad I finally got a chance to try it out. First the food, the meat was so fresh and the cuts were all well done with the perfect amount to be able to grill (not too thin or not too large where it doesn't cook) The options that were seasoned were done well, and I especially loved finger cut and the galbi short rib. The hand rolls were a good size and the sashimi was fresh. The service was super friendly and helpful with suggestions for picks for our hand rolls. I will say being at a newer place is nice the grills didn't have those random hotter spots or inconsistency in the plate temperature. The vents dropping down so low kept the smoke at a low level even when it was in the middle of a weekend lunch rush. Finally The inside was well done and had a nice modern feel. We recently visited Must Be Cow in Citrus Heights for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday, and overall, it was a solid experience with a few standout highlights. We arrived on a Friday around 5 PM and were pleasantly surprised that the wait was minimal, especially since they do not take reservations for parties of two. Parking was easy. As a nice birthday perk, my husband received $15 off, which was a thoughtful touch. The restaurant itself is clean, modern, and visually inviting. The service team was friendly, attentive, and courteous throughout our visit, which made the experience even more enjoyable. As someone currently following a low-carb, high-protein diet, Korean BBQ is always a great fit, and Must Be Cow delivered with a wide and fresh selection of meats and sides. The salmon carpaccio and Kobe carpaccio were excellent--both flavorful and well-prepared. The squid and mushroom salad was also fresh and tasty. Most of the meat selection was delicious, though the ribeye was a bit underwhelming. While it was a generous cut, it lacked seasoning, so I recommend adding your own before grilling to bring out its full potential. The biggest disappointment was the absence of fresh oysters. Based on their advertising, that was actually the main reason we chose to drive 45 minutes instead of going to our usual spots in Elk Grove, which are much closer. It would be great to see oysters return to the menu in the future. Would we come back? Possibly--though the distance is a factor. That said, if oysters make a comeback, we would absolutely return without hesitation. Overall, a great spot with quality food and service. Definitely worth trying. read more

Meat quality is delicious and fresh. They flavor it perfectly and the cuts are perfect. I love that we can 6 proteins and also a handful of Apps with handrolls. I really enjoyed the rolls and apps. The desserts were delicious as well. Service was top notch with a group of 6 and nicely lit restaurant. There is also a nice bonchon bar. Lovely experience all around! I LOVE this place! Good music, good vibes, and the best service EVER! Alex and Andy are such a treat everytime we come, very attentive to any needs and even let us have some music input. They are so welcoming and I swear we are here like every other week now. The food is amazing, and everything you get for the price can't be beat. They have a cold bar that you can get a plethora of sides and then you can order lots of different sides like dumplings, chicken wings, edamame, cheese fries, sushi etc. and it's ALL good. We love this place so much and besides the food it's the people that keep us coming back. Can't wait to see our new friends Alex and Andy when we return. First time at Must Be Cow and we came READY. We told our server right away that we are AYCE specialists and fully understand the assignment -- you go for the premium items to really experience that $39.99 dinner price point. He laughed and immediately walked us through the menu like a pro. Service was fantastic from start to finish. Our table was basically a feast: Salmon Carpaccio, Kobe Beef Carpaccio, sashimi, hand rolls, Tuna Tataki, finger short rib and alllll the banchon. Everything came out fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. The quality honestly surprised us for an AYCE spot. The Finger Short Rib was a standout and the carpaccio selections were absolutely worth ordering again and again. Nothing felt rushed, and our server stayed attentive the entire meal. There are plenty of KBBQ spots in Sacramento, so I was a little hesitant to try this place at first. The restaurant has a good amount of seating, but the larger tables would definitely benefit from having two grills instead of just one. They offer two pricing options for AYCE. My favorite is the higher-tier menu, which I believe is around $49 per person. It includes unlimited American Kobe beef, and that cut is absolutely delicious. This menu also comes with a wide variety of other meats, seafood, sushi rolls and appetizers. There's also a simple salad bar with garlic, lettuce, kimchi cucumbers, and other sides that pair really well with Korean BBQ. The service was great -- friendly staff and quick service throughout the meal. Must Be Cow has definitely become one of my go-to KBBQ spots in Sacramento. read more

Have been here a couple of times now, and arguably my favorite place in Sacramento to grab KBBQ. The combination of sushi and KBBQ is a match made in heaven for me, personally. The fact that there's both hand rolls and sashimi is awesome. It's great to have that, in addition to the KBBQ options. The fact that you can get a decent amount per round also makes it even better. The amount of options you can get per round makes me a happy camper, you won't be left thinking that there's too much time in between bites. Service is great too, constantly checking.
