I had a very disappointing experience with Main Street Mechanics…read more I called asking if they could provide me with a copy of a pre-purchase inspection that had recently been performed on the exact Toyota Highlander I was planning to buy. The manager I spoke with on Monday morning told me that "the law states" they could not provide me with the inspection and that I would have to pay another $360 for a completely new pre-purchase inspection. After looking into it further, I found that this was at best a misleading explanation. If the shop has a policy not to release inspection reports to anyone other than the original customer, that's understandable--but saying "the law" requires a new inspection is very different. I felt like I was being pressured to spend another $360 unnecessarily. On top of that, the manager was rude from the very beginning of the phone call. Customer service matters, especially when someone is trying to make an informed purchase on a vehicle. I hope the business is more transparent with future customers about its policies and treats people with more respect. Also fun fact! the owner does not speak to customers according to the manager who was working Monday morning

It's not just my experience too: When I was barely 17 I blew my clutch. I went to this establishment for a Uhaul trailer to tow my car. A employee of Toms stereotyped me and assumed I did drugs and wouldn't rent me a trailer which felt very unprofessional. I had to get someone else to rent the trailer for me and when I got my car to the place they told me it would be a week to get the job done and they would look at the car for me to make sure it was the clutch and not a cable or something. Then when I got it there they kept delaying it to do other peoples cars. After it sat there for a month of me being told "one more extra week until we start on it" After a month I towed it over to hillside tire. Tom the owner was upset at me when I did. They had not even touched my car other than putting a baseball sized dent on the rear passenger door when it sat in the same parking spot for that time. Hillside tire did my clutch for $400 cheaper than what this place wanted to charge and in less than 24 hours! When I had my car on the road again Tom the owner saw me while driving his lifted truck and tried to race me in traffic. ‍ This year my friend went there to get his Celica a new timing chain in APRIL. They were not honest about when it would be worked on and instead of half a week it took them closer to a month. When they finally did get started on it their mechanic got bored and just moved on to someone else's car and left the Celica taken apart. After like three more weeks they finally got it done but the car "had a bad engine" So my friend decided to go somewhere else that would show integrity and professionalism except when he towed it out of the place he found the engine was left taken apart with loose bolts and parts left sitting in the engine bay. They didn't even put the spark plugs back in. Turns out mechanics won't take a car that was taken apart someplace else so he was stuck going back to "quality" muffler and brake and had to buy a whole new engine cause they couldn't get it running. They persisted with lying about deadlines and only "delaying" it by a week to just work on another customers car that was sent in later instead. The car he sent to them in MAY just recently got finished this JULY after continually being told "we will have it done next week" When he went to pick up the car Tom the owner sat him down to victim blame him for the bad experience. Funny enough his 92 celica left that establishment with a football sized dent on the rear fender bad enough to leave paint chipped off. The place won't take responsibility despite choosing to have a parking lot that is too crowded to not be a clear dent hazard. Update: the celiacs engine light kept coming on but it is now dead due to an electrical issue that wasn't present before this place had touched it. This place is not honest and will leave you without your car for a very long time.

At one point I could no longer unlock the Driver's side door from the outside or inside as the long metal arm between the locking peg and the lock itself broke off. No one made or sold that part anymore. I thought I'd have to finish my last year without a car, and then my first couple paychecks after that trying to get a newer one. The mechanics at Mitchell machined a new part and then installed it for about $20. The car saw me through commissioned officer training in the Air Force, and my young family to our first duty station on the East Coast. I'll always be grateful to Mitchell's for going beyond expectations, and at the same time being super understanding of where I was in my life, how needed the car was, and how limited of a budget I had.
