Going with this service was the best thing I've ever done for my baby. Dr. Breiana is an absolute blessing to the world. When she arrived, my baby had a rush of energy and wanted to play outside in the grass. She assured me that it was okay to take our time and let her enjoy outside one last time. We sat and she listened to my stories about her life, and when she wanted to go inside, we went in and she was given the sedative. She was so peaceful and laid in her bed. The decision to say goodbye to a loved one who is suffering is never easy. However, the team at The Compassionate Pet Vet was truly there for our family when we needed them most. Our little one of 18 years went into heart failure a couple of weeks ago, and her condition steadily declined. Also, after reading through all the reviews in Yelp, we were reassured they're the right people to take care our baby in his final moments. The fact that he could be with us till his last, in the comfort of our home was the only option for us. Compassionate Pet Vet made going through this inevitable process less painful starting from the paperwork to "the goodbye day". They took care of everything (cremation & keepsakes if you choose them); and their response was quick and the staff were friendly and understanding. The vet, Dr. Danielle arrived at our house on time on the day of our appointment and she was very professional and courteous. If you want more personable and less clinical approach you might need to ask for Dr. Maggie (based on reviews and our experience). You can check their website and FAQ to familiarize yourself with the process (It's hard and sad but we had to do it, just to prepare ourselves). For the option we chose, and the size of our dog; we paid $635 which is reasonable in my opinion but understand it can be expensive for some. However, if you're reading this review or wondering if you should use their service I'm sure you are the type of pet parent(s) who would do anything for your fur baby/babies. Thus, money is irrelevant and especially this would likely be the last thing that you could give to your beloved friend/family/baby. For cremation, you can choose communal or private, we picked private cremation )so we can keep our baby's ashes and selected a keepsake option (white clay paw print with his name, and opted for a scattering Container (no urn), and it also comes with a certificate of death, grief support information, and all came in a premium return packaging in dark blue color with paw prints on it which is so adorable. A week later, we got a call from Fond Memories that Kickapoo's ashes & clay paw print are ready to be picked up. Then two weeks later, we received a sympathy card from Compassionate Pet Vet with Dr. Danielle's personal handwriting on it which we think it is so thoughtful and comforting. All in all, we highly recommend Compassionate Pet Vet for this unfortunate circumstance that you may be faced with (which I wouldn't wish for anyone) but sadly it's inevitable and it is the last selfless thing you could do for your beloved family member. So, I hope anyone reading this can appreciate how important it is for me to share my experience and will help other families prepare for the possibility of feeling what I experienced - being rushed through one of the most painful moments of my life. I wrote about my whole experience because there are other things to address; however, there is a character limit, so I have amended my review a bit to hopefully get out the most important points. Jan26, I made the most difficult and painful decisions to have my cat, Belle, euthanized after receiving a terminal diagnosis of metastatic cancer in Dec. I decided it would be best to find a vet who provides services at home. I received recommendations from two different vets and after doing some research and reading about their process, I decided on Compassionate Pet Vet. Dr. Danielle arrived at our house about 10 minutes late, but I felt it completely understandable considering I got a few more minutes with Belle, and I can only guess Dr. Danielle was coming from another appointment, where there was another family grieving the loss of their family member. But honestly, it was one of the reasons why I considered NOT doing an in-home visit. I thought about the possibility of feeling rushed because of the vets need to get to their next appointment and, very unfortunately, that is exactly what happened. Dr. Danielle was very pleasant. I do not deny that. She came in and sat down with us in the kitchen. We talked about Belle's diagnosis and she assured me I was making the right decision. She explained what would happen. After reading about Dr. Maggie's process on their website and having been through an at-home euthanasia before with a doggy who had kidney disease, I know what the at-home visit can look like. I know vets can take their time. It was my understanding I would get a final moment with my kitty before the final injection. That the vet might even step into another room. Again, sadly, my experience this time did not compare to my previous experience, or what I read online about Compassionate Pet Vet. Dr. Danielle gave Belle the sedative injection and she began to get up to move away from the needle. I picked Belle up as she was starting to wobble and looked like she might fall over. Belle was lying in my arms when, after only about a minute later, Dr. Danielle began to move forward with the syringe. I said, "NO" but Dr. Danielle continued to move forward towards me and gave Belle the final injection anyway. I do not expect Dr. Danielle should have believed I was withdrawing my consent to treat Belle when I said "No" just before the final injection, and believed I was grieving and struggling. Though that is true, I just wanted another minute. I believed I was going to get another minute to say one final goodbye, again based on my previous experience and what I read about Compassionate Pet Vet. Instead, what happened felt rushed and confusing for me, and I can only imagine was the same for the last moments for Belle, which only adds more to my guilt and wondering whether I made the right decision. What if I had in fact changed my mind? Or just wanted to pause for a minute? How can anyone communicate they need more time, or have maybe changed their mind completely? Was there a necessary time frame Dr. Danielle had between the first injection and the final one? I really suggest addressing these questions on your site/emails. The entire visit lasted 35 minutes. Maybe this is "normal" but again not mentioned. I know every situation may be different, and fluid; however, having a general idea of vet's arrival/departure would have helped me. I know nothing is perfect and there would never be a right time, but feeling rushed made it all the more painful. I hope others reading this can prepare for what could feel like a very quick process. Explaining every step and ensuring we were as ready as we could be. It was the same with Nani. Being a nurse myself (with no veterinary experience) I saw Nani changing and deteriorating daily. We were giving her the atb and sub q fluids to help with her quality of life but she continued symptomatic with the St IV Kidney Disease. The last couple days she started having fluid build up in her abdomen causing labored breathing. We don't believe suffering always has to be a part of death so that is when we scheduled Dr. Maggie. When she arrived she ensured we were still on board. We talked about Nani's labs and dx. She confirmed the fluid build up. At that time she prepared everything and offered Nani a treat which initially she rejected so she left it by her. She then advised us she was going to give her the sedative if we were ready and upon receiving the sedative Nani ate the treats. (she had been vomiting everything that she ate the past couple of days so we understood her reticence.) Dr. Maggie made sure that she was very relaxed and comfortable and also made sure we were ready for her to receive the final injection before giving it to her. It didn't take very long for her body to give up. We were offered time with her to say our final goodbye.
