Steer clear of the pad thai. Room temp, bland, lacking flavor, ingredients, and taste. Sauce covered noodles already cut up and the sauce was no longer even wet at all. It had already soaked into the noodles which lets me know they sat there for at least several hours. A few green onions were tossed on after you order it. Sadly, it's hands down the worst pad thai I've ever eaten. Adding even a few vegetables, a sprinkle of crushed peanuts, and a lime wedge or a squeeze of lime would have given the dish something. I love food trucks. And I love Thai food. So, naturally, I should love this place. Instead, I'm left liking it. I took others suggestions for drunken noodles with some main dishes. I liked the spicy chicken. And its a generous portion for the price. And yet here's my problem: It's really just a buffet style meal. The food is already cooked and being warmed. Edit: This was the cart on 333 Cedar, outside the hospital. A wonderful surprise awaited me when both lunchbox 23 and Lean's pho cart where missing during spring break week in 2016. What I had assumed would be a complete disaster was instead saved by this little family run cart and boy was it good. You've got to get the chicken pad thai, or as they list it on the menu, pad Thai noodes and grilled chicken please. It's quite lovely and the flavors from the grill are out of this world. Skip drunken noodles and just go for the real deal here, the line is around the block for them and ordering something else just slows everyone down. What secured the five star for me was the nicest service possible, they gave us extra and desert for free because the line was well over 30mins of waiting, while the Thai cart next to it had no line. Jasmine Thai cart is my favorite food cart in all of New Haven, and this is a town with some fine cart-based food. It's on Church St. kitty corner from Bruegger's, kind of in the middle of the block, but closer to the Grove side near Willoughby's. If you're in the general area, you should be able to follow your nose and float on the aroma trail a la Pepe Le Pew. It's open from 11-3 on weekdays, but closes in inclement weather, as we discovered last year on a very cold grumpy day that only got grumpier with the denial of Thai cart. There's usually a line of some sort, which is why I'm sort of surprised it doesn't have a Yelp entry (am I ruining things for everyone right now? Don't hate me, people who line up for Thai cart, I am one of you!), but it goes fast. There's a whiteboard on the outside of the cart with the menu, and the specials change slightly day to day. Always available, though, are drunken noodles, pad thai, fried rice, and Thai BBQ chicken. Specials are usually chicken or vegetarian, with some sort of curry or basil sauce. I have never had anything that was less than delicious. The way it works is you get a 2, 3, or 4 item combo for I think $4.50, $5.50, or $6.50. Mad cheap. It's the same amount of food whatever number of items you get, but you pay for the variety. And they give you a TON of food. I usually go for the 3 item with drunken noodle, BBQ chicken, and whatever else strikes my fancy. The BBQ chicken is out of control. They barbeque it on a grill right there, chop it into strips and drizzle it with some sweet sauce. The drunken noodles are really tasty, though they can be a little on the dry side. This is helped by eating it together with other moister entrees, and also by heaping on rooster sauce, which is available right by the utensils and napkins at the pay window. Thai cart is amazing in every way - cheap, delicious, plentiful...I really can't recommend it enough. New Haven would be a different town without it. read more

The Pad Thai has a slight sweet ginger flavor that I don't find in any other restaurant's offerings. Get the peanut and sweet chili sauce at the end. Also, she sometimes has mango which I love. This cart is run by a Thai couple who are so sweet and friendly. My first time at the Jasmine Thai cart was yesterday, I wanted to try something new for lunch and this cart was close by. I ordered the pineapple fried rice with chicken and steamed broccoli, and sriracha sauce on the side. The food was good and for only $6.50, you truly can't beat it. I was a little worried that the pineapple fried rice would be too sweet but that was not the case at all! The only downside is that they are cash-only, and if you're like me and hardly carry cash with you, it can be a pain to have to stop at a bank/ATM. I started working within walking distance of the Jasmine Thai Cart a few months ago, and it quickly became one of my favorite choices for lunch. For just $6, I can get a generous helping of pad thai, drunken noodles, or pineapple fried rice, plus chicken, and everything is made with fresh ingredients and served steaming hot. If I want extra items, or to split my order, it's only $1-2 more. I've had the three main noodle/rice options as well as the grilled chicken, sweet basil chicken, spicy basil chicken, and some different curries. The grilled chicken is my favorite, and I like to switch between pad thai and pineapple rice for my base. Some items run out if you get there at a later lunch hour, but everything's good, so it's not a bad thing to have to try something new on the menu. My new favorite place to eat in New Haven. I'm not a very adventurous eater, so I wouldn't have even tried the place had my co worker not dragged me there. Thank god she did. I have been mostly getting the grilled chicken and pineapple rice, which is fairly sweet, but delicious. I tried the drunken noodles on my co workers' suggestions but I wasn't thrilled (it just wasn't my thing). My only complaint is that sometimes they're not there, but that's just the nature of it being a food cart. The food is good enough that it's worth taking the walk and hoping to catch them. read more

I've come to conclude that if you stick to Jasmine's strongest items, this is as good a lunch as you could hope to find. So what are the strongest items here? For me, they are the pineapple fried rice, the grilled chicken, and the mango vegetable curry with tofu. The chicken is cooked (or at least finished) on a small grill they have in the cart, and is excellent. The rice and the curry are quite good individually, but put them together and they're even better. The noodle choices aren't as good as the rice, and I tried the sweet basil chicken once, which to me seems like something they threw onto the menu to compete with Chinese takeout places - it's nothing special. Prices went up $1 during 2013, so that rice or noodles with one item is now $6, and with two items is $7. Only two points of criticism: first, from time to time the food isn't as well prepared as usual (for example, the vegetables in the mango curry are undercooked), and second, most days you are hassled for change by the beggar in the wheelchair who sets up shop right next door to this cart. read more

I don't do spicy, so their pineapple fried rice (or pad thai noodles) paired with grilled chicken (which comes with some steamed broccoli) are really really tasty and extremely fresh. I've been trying to replicate that chicken at home without success. It's like crack, I can't get enough of it! From the looks of it, everything else they make is awesome, too, because I see the same regulars coming back day after day. Vegetarian choices, too. I'm not familiar enough with drunken noodles to know if theirs are typical, but I didn't like them. They were just plain old noodles! Generally one of the more crowded food carts on Cedar street, I was excited to try out their food, which was cheap ($6 for 3 types of meat + rice. Generous portions). Basil Chicken: The flavor of the basil didn't really come through, but it was still enjoyable. Tempura Chicken: The chicken itself was not very crunchy, but the crisps that came with it added a refreshingly different texture in a meal that needed it. Grilled Chicken: By FAR the best chicken here. Delightfully tender with a flavorful marinade! Rice: This was the one glaring issue with my meal. While I was expecting some nice Thai rice, I was disappointed to taste generic out of the can Uncle Ben's. A real shocker. Overall, they offer a wide variety of foods for an extremely reasonable price. I'd definitely recommend coming, as I will probably be back myself, but stay away from the rice. This is my favorite cart in New Haven. I live in the Hartford area but work a block from Yale. I visit this cart about twice a week. I usually order the pineapple fried rice with their spicy chicken of the day, as well as the grilled chicken. Their grilled chicken is the best. Try it sometime, you won't regret it. I noticed that on the mobile version of Yelp it states open from 11am to 3pm. On most days if you're not there by 2pm you just might get no food.
