Was in Ojai for the day! Needed caffeine and I found Java & Joe while walking around Ojai. I passed a lot of coffee shops but this one caught my attention as it was also a gift shop. I ordered a 20oz White Chocolate Mocha for 5.25 which wasn't a bad price! That's what I pay around or more at my local shops. I think Starbucks is more! Happy to support this local spot! My drink was perfect! They have a patio outside in the back and a few tables out front! When in Ojai, I'd def stop here again! Young woman at register was friendly but not everyone was. She was also helping to make drinks but was chill. They were super busy and seem overwhelmed compared to the lady that assisted me. Old man behind the counter could get a reward for awful and unfriendly customer service. We decided to come her after going to the dutchess which they don't serve coffee past 2 PM, Ojai coffee roasters didn't seem appealing so decided to come Here but I guess will take my business where customer Service is better and friendlier: I asked the old man if he has any specialty drinks or anything that is everyone's favorite. Without a word he just points at the board. I thought I was the only one who felt he was rude but w everyone felt the same way/ their drinks aren't cheap either so at least $6 each. On a cold cloudy Saturday in Ojai, this coffee shop was a welcoming relief! I visit Ojai quite a bit and this is the first time I've stopped into this coffee shop! The coffee shop is located in a shopping complex across from the farmers market on weekends! The coffee shop offers cute items to buy, homemade pastries, coffee and tea drinks! Always friendly and the coffee is always good. I have tried most of the specialty drinks and they never disappoint. Service is always fast and even when busy never do I have a problem with quality. If you're local or visit often grab a little punch card for a free cup after you get a few. Kinda similar to most coffee places apps for rewards just the old school way. read more

We love individually-owned coffee places. The service is usually great, and the coffee is almost always better than the big chains. Java & Joe is no exception. Friendly staff and owner. And the coffee is excellent. One aspect that really helped them stand out is their abundance of sugar free options. As Starbucks, Coffee Bean, and others remove more and more sugar free options, Java & Joe has several to choose from. We loved our coffees and will be back next time we're in town. We've been to this coffee shop many times in the last 9 years. While our dog is getting groomed down the street we enjoy a cup of coffee and then browse through the great greeting card selection. The last time we went however, things seemed to have changed. The staff is new and not nearly as friendly. I ordered a vanilla latte that came without vanilla. When I mentioned this to the gal at the counter she took it back and added vanilla. No apology. Both of our coffee drinks came warm, not hot. Has the ownership of this coffee shop changed recently? I'm not inclined to go back. The vibe was different and I felt like we were an intrusion in their day. read more

Since we live in Ojai, we've been to J&J several times. Great place for drinks. Very pleasant staff. Not located on the main drag, so usually a much quieter place to relax. My only issue is about the sweets they sell. You think I might have learned, after 3 attempts. To our tastes, something is not quite right with what we have ordered, whether muffin, slice of cake, or packaged cookies. Too sweet, or almost tasteless, or just off. Oh well, lesson learned--we will continue to enjoy the drinks there, but avoid the sweets. read more

One of the best places to find that perfect gift as you wait for your latte. Has always been more of a grab and go place, though there are always some local regulars ( good sign) sitting outside. Very satisfied with this place. I have been here a few times but recently started getting my espresso grounds from here as they have a large variety. Joe, the owner, was of extreme help & knowledge. I ended up with a Kona blend and Costa Rica blend. I am a huge fan of the Costa Rica blend. They also offer punches so after so many pounds of coffee bought you get one on them. Nice bright coffee and tea spot with plenty of room. They had four types of iced tea to choose from and had my favorite mango black tea. Service was friendly and they gave me a discount for having my own ceramic cup. Every kind of loose leaf tea and coffee jars line one wall and they have fun birthday cards for sale in another section. I like their outdoor tables facing the quieter side street rather than the main drag. Ojai provides clean restrooms at the other end of the little park a few steps from the coffee shop, so lack of a bathroom isn't such a big deal. read more

This is a cute little coffee shop behind the main arcade in Ojai. It is neat and clean and has a lot of coffee related things for sale. When I got a hot chocolate this morning, the young woman behind the counter was very friendly and greeted me with a smile. I was given a choice of milk for my hot chocolate and asked if I wanted whipped cream. The selection of pastries included cookies made at the shop, fresh looking muffins, coffee cake, strudel, and carrot zucchini bread. The hot chocolate was delicious, as was the carrot zucchini bread. The store was very quiet when I stopped in at 7am. I would highly recommend it for your morning pick-me-up! read more
