visited this spot after reading such good and perfect reviews about this place but it was disappointing. All the reviews stated that the service was outstanding and friendly however, it was the complete opposite. Waited forever to be seated, even when I was seated the server was being rude and difficult. Took forever to get the servers attention to order the food as well. There were barely any customers inside the store and the food took almost an hour to get when we ordered only 2 small dishes. The food was below average, no flavor and was overall embarrassing. The ambiance of the place was unpleasant as well. The inside of the store was very musty and even the tables are dirty. Don't waste your time and your money and just go somewhere else. Food is good. I always get the nasi bungkus. Lately I like chicken woku. It's a bit spicy though. They cannot make it milder.

We picked up & ordered the pork satay with rice cake and the javanese banana leaf rice.... inside was savory indonesian goodness filled with tempeh, sambal potatoes, kangkong belacan (greens), dried fried anchovies, sambal, beef rendang, hard boiled egg and white rice. Everything in there wrapped in banana leaf gave it a beautiful aroma and remained warm til my 20min trip back home. So exciting opening it was like a gift of yumminess! My only complaint about this dish is that I wished that the rice was cooked with coconut milk....reminiscing of a Malaysian dish called nasi lemak which is very similar to this which I'm so missing. The hubby had the pork satay and he loved it! He liked the marinated tender pork skewers and the portions especially just right. Will definitely come back to try out other dishes and too bad they close early evening most likely due to this Covid time. Lastly they have a grocery/market attached to restaurant. There is an attached/connected room for you to buy Indonesian snacks (like crackers, instant noodles etc) & other items Inside the restaurant. In front of the cashier, they had ready to eat appertizer/dessert (I think it's different stuff everyday) like: martabak, bika ambon, siomay, lapis Surabaya. Super Friendly & nice employees. No wonder this place was packed (they were packed when I was there around 11:20 am - 2 pm both times) they have good food!!! I came here twice & both days were busy. I will give 5 stars for the food itself, I gave 4 stars because of something else. They served our orders one by one but I wish they served it all in one. Looks like they always short of dishes, so keep in mind you never know which food was out. The first time I came: - It was supposed to be open at 11 am but when I & my best friend got there still close, we wait and finally open around 11:20 am. - they gave us mie ayam jamur first, after finish it, we need to wait a few minutes still until we got our second order. - we ordered : 1) Nasi bungkus Padang/ Padang banana leaf rice ($13): Steamed rice with curry style chicken, rendang beef, crispy beef, spicy hard boil egg, vegetable (kale) in coconut milk with green chili. (Out) so I ordered chicken satay instead. 5) Lapis Surabaya $9 (5 stars) good & moist we ordered dine in: 1) Sate ayam/ chicken satay $10.50. I think it's the chicken thigh, it was good (tender & juicy) and good peanut sauce (5 stars) 2) Mie singapore / spicy ground chicken noodle (comes with 2 beef ball soup) $10.50: boiled egg noodle with spicy ground chicken, meatball, fried wonton, seasoned egg & vegetables. It was warm (perfect temperature) & so tasteful. (5 stars) 3) siomay bandung $10.50 (3 stars) it was cold & peanut sauce to sweet. 4) sayur asem/ tamarid soup $4 (small): it was ok (3 stars) 5) soda gembira / italian soda $3.99: soda mixed with condensed milk and rose flavored syrup. I was invited for a work lunch and never had Indonesian food before. The venue is a really nice local lunch spot attached to an Indonesian grocery store. I unfortunately forgot the name of the dish I had, but it was really delicious and unique to anything I'd ever had before. The meat and rice in my entree had their flavors married really well from being steamed in the banana leaf. A home made chili sauce was served on the side that paired well. It was reminiscent of Sambal Sauce and had a good spice. I don't work in the area often, but hope to stop by for lunch soon. read more

We love Java Bistro and are so happy to have Indonesian food close to home! The selection of Indonesian food they have on their menu is amazing! My favorite dish by far is their Batagor...very very delicious. But come early or order by phone early so that you don't miss out on getting it. Their Es Shanghai is also wonderful (enak sekali). We love having family gatherings their because it reminds us of our childhood. The bonus is you can by Indonesian ingredients and snacks from their shop inside. Will definitely be back! read more

We decided to have the early new year feast with my Indonesian friends here, the place is quite packed with people and the seating area is limited (they should add more space) as for us luckily, I grab the table quickly, We came in a party of 7, we ordered: - Mie Bakso (4*) the food came fresh and it's still maintain the heat! tasted good, like the noodle stall in Jakarta! It's really good and it came with a bowl of 2 meatball, the combination of the meat and veggie is not too much so it suits! - Mie Singapore (4*) same review as the Mie Bakso, but what I like most is the spicy level of it, it's really good! Ask for the chili from them too! - Nasi Goreng Udang (4*) my friend's daughter says it's good, and the portion is a lot! She packed the food to go since the left over is a lot and guess what, it stays good the next day when my friend heats it! So yes, the flavor of Nasi Goreng stays! - Es Teler (4*) the kids says "it's good aunty! Not too sweet!" So kids won't lie rite??? - Pempek (3*) wish this part is spicy! But it's not! Sweet man! Pempek is suppose to be spicy! The Pempek is good but no spicy makes it bland. - Nasi Goreng Vegetarian (3,5*) my vegetarian buddy says it's good, very spicy as he orders it but he still says 3,5 anyway. - Ayam Bakar (3,5*) my husband says it's tasty, it came with a sambal in a small bowl, you can dip the chicken to add the spicy. The soya sauce flavor is not too sweet, the chicken fragrant is not too burned. For the price, it's not that expensive I say and the price of the Indonesian groceries they have is not pricey too. Then i ended up calling the merchant at 4:50pm to check the status of my order and was told they don't get any order from postmates. Delicious food! We went for our first time to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday here. The food was so good! reminds me of my grandmothers home cooking that I miss so much. We ordered a little bit of everything. we order the Javanese noodles, Fried rice, Gado gado salad, chicken satay, and oxtail soup. we loved every dish! My favorite was the Gado Gado salad and my daughter loved the ox tail soup. There was only one server there but she was very friendly and helpful even though it started to get busy. This restaurant has to be under new management. The service here has gone to absolute shit. They actually blocked my mothers phone number. We had placed an order and needed it later in the day, so we wanted to tell them it's okay to make it later near the time we would pick it up. We had to call them using a different phone until they finally picked up. On top of the horrible customer service. The meat in the soto tastes like it was so old and it's disgusting. Being an Indonesian myself, I can say that Java Bistro has authentic indonesian dishes. If you have never tried indonesian food, you need to! It is similar thai food with a variety of spices! Seeing these reviews might make you feel indifferent about the place right? But what you don't know is that this place is one of the go to spots for Indonesians ALL the time. This place is almosst always packed its just sad that people dont often post reviews about them here on yelp. One thing I can say though is that asian restaurants do really poorly in customer service unfortunately. I do not know exactly the reason why but they do, and I think Java Bistro can do a lot better in their approach to customers. With customer service lacking, their food is really tasty! I've gone here multiple times without much of a problem, but that changed somewhat today. Coming from an Indonesian household, I feel like the food is decent and tastes authentic. I ordered a gado-gado with all the toppings on the side, and it tasted okay. The veggies had a sour-ish taste to them before I put any peanut dressing on top, so I'm not sure how fresh they were. For my party of 5, it took about 30 minutes for the food to come out, even though it wasn't particularly busy today. What really put me off was the secret gratuity added onto our bill. Of the multiple times I have ordered here, I have never had this charge before, even with parties of +8. Maybe it's written somewhere and I missed it, but seeing an extra $13 is never fun. There are not that many Indonesian places, so this is already a gem. If you are looking for authentic Indonesian food...you will not be disappointed! I myself am Indonesian and this just reminded me of a good home-cooked meal. I would personally come here with friends and do family style, just so you can get a taste of everything. If you do not know what to order and would like to get a true taste of Indo, I would get batagor....this never disappointed me. Batagor is fried fish and tofu covered in peanut sauce. This is also nicely paired with gado-gado...which is like an Indonesian salad. If this was not enough, the chicken satay is a great way to start, before ordering the batagor and gado-gado. All of this comes with peanut sauc and if you are allergic, don't worry because I hear the soup is amazing. It is something I will definitely order on a chillier day. read more

The hard-boiled egg that comes with it also has that pork meat flavor. Rice underneath it was perfect, Most likely because it has the meat on top of it. I've lived across the street for two yrs and had no idea this little Indonesian restaurant existed. The restaurant name is a little deceiving so I never thought to give it a shot. By chance I was yelping and notice it said Indonesian food. I'm am blown away. This place is so damn delicious. I've read reviews about poor service but one thing they all had in common was the good quality of the food and flavor. I had the Jack fruit curry which was... da bomb. My husband had the nasi padang not sure how to spell it but guess what? It was da bomb! Minus one star because customer service was so so. Other than that the food is 5 stars delicious. Being Indonesian, I must say this place is pretty great for many options of the food they offered such as: Ayam Bakar, Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng, Mpek2, Bubur Ayam, Satay Ayam, Es Alvokado, and Es Campur. I love how the vibes of this place isn't too bad as well. Unfortunately, the downside of this place even thou you ordered ahead of time.. most likely you have to wait additional 30mins to 1 hour from the time they've told you that the food is ready. This happened to us not only once or twice but multiple times. I am used to know the lack of Indonesian people consider we're always known for being late anyways but having an American husband who actually loves eating food from here, it's pretty disappointing and at times he refused to come here even thou we live 7mins away. He would rather eat at different Indonesian restaurant or have my mom cook for him since he's always punctual with times. Last couple times we ordered here too, the food portion has changed and it's another thing that we reconsidered because they charged very pricey and we are fine with what they used to offered. Food was alright. My coworkers and I ordered it for pick up and I ordered based off the online menu description and yelp pictures. On the menu the chicken fried rice was listed as non spicy. It was spicy. Real spicy. My spicy tolerance is garbage so even generic tabasco sauce destroys me. I'm not sure if that's their definition of non spicy or if they messed up my order. Aside from the burning pain, the food wasn't very special, maybe I should've ordered something else. I also didn't get any veges with my rice as shown on the pictures here. Was that a side? If so, it would probably be a good idea to note that in the pictures. If I could handle the spicy, I would say the food is okay but I can't say it's anything I would ever crave or a place I want to go to specifically go out of my way to eat at.
